Generation No. 1

1.  JOHN S.1 MCAFEE died Unknown.  He married ELVIRA UNKNOWN.  She died Unknown.

Notes for JOHN S. MCAFEE:
Per Brig. Gen., Michael McAfee, he feels the husband of ELVIRA McAFEE was JOHN S. McAFEE, and Spencer A. McAFee b. 1832  named his father as JOHN in various  records per Michael McAfee.   We have never found other information on the name of JOHN S. McAFEE to know if this is correct or not.  - Tina Rogers Beller, May 25, 2006.

Notes for ELVIRA UNKNOWN:
Per the 1840 HABERSHAM CO. GA Census :

Per the 1850 Cherokee Co. GA census :
18th Division, enumerated on Sept. 5, 1850  by W. P. Hammon
718 - 720   ELVIRA McAffee         46  F      born  NC ( check mark )
                  BURTON     "              20 M               NC ( check mark )
                  SPENCER McAfee      18 M               GA
                  JOHN            "             17 M                "
                  MAHALAH     "              16 F                "
                  WILLIAM      "               11 M               "
                  COLPHUS     "                8  M              "

Due to an old illegible  copy of the 1850 Cherokee Co. GA census, Michael McAfee listed ELVIRA as " ELZIRA " McAFEE.    I believe her name was in fact ELVIRA McAFEE per this 1850 Cherokee Co. GA Census and  the later 1860 Marion Co. AR census where she is listed as ELVIRA SUTTON, on her sons ( Spencer's ) 1860 Marion Co. AR Census.
  - Tina Rogers Beller, July 05, 2004.

Living next door to Elvira McAffee in the 1850 Cherokee Co. GA Census is Manly Washington Ford b. 1811 in SC.  and wife Martha Unknown.   They lived in household 717-719 and Manly Washington Ford was son of Manly Ford b. Nov. 20, 1770, in Spartanburg Dist. South Carolina.  The father, Manly Ford was a Captain in War of 1812 and he died 24 March 1843 in Cherokee Co. GA.   He had fist wife Mary Bishop, whom he married in 1792 Spratansburg Dist. SC  ( mother of all his children including Manly Washington Ford next door neighbor of ELVIRA McAFEE.  )   By 1822 father, Manly Ford married Dolly Crowe.    He was a prominent citizen of Spartansburg SC, and  all his children but for Mary Ford moved to Cherokee Co. GA by 1844.   Manly Ford was age 74 when he died in 1843 leaving a Will with Robinson Smith as Admr. ( son in law  of Manly Ford & husband of his daughter, Mary Ford. )   So far, no connections with McAfee's seem to be in the Ford line.  Some ended up in Cherokee Co. OK. Many other McAfee families had also lived in SC and then moved to Habersham Co. GA.  and they too had military records.  Unknown whether John S. McAfee had known the FORDS or not prior to his death., and I have no verifications that John S. McAfee is father of Spencer A. McAfee other than data from Brig. Gen. Michael McAfee who believes John S. McAfee is Spencer's father.         - Tina Rogers Beller, July 05, 2004.

Per Michael L. McAfee, BGEN :

" Elzira was living with Spencer in 1860. the loose end to be tied up her is with the marriage documentations which would be in Rolla , Missouri, Mt. home, AR, or Cherokee Co., GA. "

Per Ginger Turner :

I feel that Elvira married Asa Sutton in GA before coming to AR but that is just my "feeling".  . . . . they are in AR in 1860 and Elvira appears to be a widow.  . . .   Spencer is in Fulton Co. AR with wife Eveline Sparks in 1856.  He married Adeline in 1859 and they then leave for MO. He is in MO to enlist in Dec. of 1861.  Elvira may have died or went with them ?

Notes for COLPHAS MCAFEE:
The 1850 Cherokee Co. GA. census transcriptions on Ancestry listed this individual as COLPHAS McAFEE, but in looking closely at the handwritten census
of 1850 Cherokee Co. GA for ELVIRA McAFEE it appears the name of this child could be DOLPHUS ( and not COLPHAS as in the transcription ) I have noted in
past that the name of DOLPHUS has been used interchangeably with the given name of ADOLPHUS.  We have no way of knowing which spelling it might be as
as we have  no other data on this individual.

Per Michael L. McAfee, BGEN on May 26, 2003 regarding SPENCER ALVIN MCAFEE :
Spencer Alvin McAfee was born on 15 DEC 1832, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, ( Western North Carolina .)  His mother was Elzira McAfee, born in North Carolina.  ( documentation sparse, yet reliable, ) in 1804.  He was the sixth of 10 children:
1 ) Berry McAfee ( Male ) 1824, North Carolina
2 ) ?   McAfee ( Male ) 1825-1830
3 )  ?  McAfee ( Male ) 1825-1830
4 )  ?  McAfee  ( Male )  1825-1830
5 ) Burton McAfee        1830      North Carolina
6 ) Spencer McAfee   15 JAN 1832   Rutherford County, North Carolina   14 Nov 1912 Boone County, Arkansas

10) Colphas McAfee                     1842  Georgia

The family moved to Habersham County, Georgia in 1840, then to Cherokee County, Georgia in 1850.  These counties are proximal to Rutherford County, North Carolina.  The 1850 Census lists Elzira as the head of household.   His father is speculated to be John S. McAfee.  Spencer lists John as his father in a census, and in a bible record.  Spencer is listed as the only landowner of the family in the 1850 Walker County, Georgia, 1850 Census.  He is listed twice in the 1850 census, ( Cherokee County, also. ).  In Walker County, Spencer was living with his brother, Berry and his wife, Nancy.  they had two children:  William Washington McAfee and Louise E. McAfee, ( same William W. in Newton County, Arkansas.  The father was not present in 1850 on and either died or left the family. )  Spencer was located in Fulton County, Arkansas in 01 OCT 1856 with his first wife, Eveline, nee Sparks.  She died 7 months after this marriage date and was buried on the North Fork of the White River in Fulton County, ( Sparks Cemetery. )  Several other members of the family moved into Arkansas from Georgia about the same time.  his brother, Berry was in Newton County during the 1860's.  Spencer maried his second wife, Hannah Adeline Lance, ( 1828, Tennessee, ) on 15 SEP 1859.  He called her "Hanner."  She bore two sons:
1 )  William Eldridge McAfee   07 OCT 1861  Near banks of North Fork of White River, near Mt. Home, Arkansas
29 Jun 1950 Healdton, Oklahoma
2 ) Samuel Hannah McAfee  07 OCT 1861  Near banks of North Fork of White River, near Mt. Home Arkansas
16 OCT 1861  Near banks of North Fork of White River, near Mt. Home, Arkansas.
Hannah had barely time to recover from the birth of twins, the death of one,
Samuel Hannah McAfee died of fever, that she endured escape to Missouri with the onset of the Civil War.  along with several families, including his brother, John, his brother in law, Frank Lance, and other Franks brother, Spencer joined Company G, Phelps Regiment, Missouri Mounted Infantry, on 15 DEC 1861, in Rolla, Missouri.   Spencer left the unit at the time of Hannah's death, Rolla, Missouri, due to measles, 03 DEC 1862.  He reenlisted with Company K, 16th Missouri Cavalry, and served 'til war's end in 1865, leaving William Eldridge McAfee in the care of his wife's sister, Mary Lance. Spencer married Surilda Edney Denehew ( 13 Jan 1848, Indiana, 13 May 1912 Bergman, Boone County, Arkansas ) on 21 APR 1865.  She bore 10 children :

1 ) Infant son     1867     ;  16 Aug  1867
2 ) Infant son     1868    ;   14 Apr. 1868
3 ) John Wesley McAfee   1869  ;  20 Sep 1879

Here's a different perspective however, -Per Aubrey Cloud information :
"Spencer Alvin McAlfee was born Jan. 15, 1832 in Rowan Co. NC and died Nov. 14, 1912 in Bergman, Boone Co. AR.   He married ( 1 ) Eveline Sparks Oct. 01, 1856 in Fulton Co. Notes for SURILDA JANE DUNEHEW:
Surilda J. was on the 1850 Izard Co. AR Census in household of William C. Donahoo/Dunehew family.   - Tina Rogers Beller, Aug. 12, 2004.

Per photo owned by my mother,  Elsie B. Davidson and now in my possession, showing  Spencer Alvin McAfee and Surilda Jane Dunehew who were Great Grandparents of  Elsie B. Davidson Rogers, and from the oral history Elsie told me about them, it appears that Surilda Jane Dunehew McAfee may have been Native American as many have said of her family.   " We have no verifications to prove this however. "    Family oral history is  in most all the lines of DUNEHEW / DONNAHOU / DONAHOO family who have the same oral history of the Dunehew family being Cherokee or Native American and were from Indiana into Arkansas.  Elsie was aware that the Dunehew line also was living in Missouri and had  researched various court houses to find more information on Dunehews and McAfee family.   - Tina Rogers Beller, Aug. 12, 2004.

Per Brig. Gen. Michael McAfee

Per Michael L. McAfee, BGEN on May 26, 2003 regarding SPENCER ALVIN MCAFEE :
Spencer Alvin McAfee was born on 15 DEC 1832, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, ( Western North Carolina .)  His mother was Elzira McAfee, born in North Carolina.  ( documentation sparse, yet reliable, ) in 1804.  He was the sixth of 10 children:
1 ) Berry McAfee ( Male ) 1824, North Carolina
2 ) ?   McAfee ( Male ) 1825-1830
3 )  ?  McAfee ( Male ) 1825-1830
4 )  ?  McAfee  ( Male )  1825-1830
5 ) Burton McAfee        1830      North Carolina
6 ) Spencer McAfee   15 JAN 1832   Rutherford County, North Carolina   14 Nov 1912 Boone County, Arkansas
7 )  John McAfee       1833    Georgia
8 ) Mahala McAfee  ( Female )   1835 Georgia
9 ) William McAfee                      1839 Georgia

She died 7 months after this marriage date and was buried on the North Fork of the White River in Fulton County, ( Sparks Cemetery. )  Several other members of the family moved iinto Arkansas from Georgia about the same time.  his brother, Berry was in Newton County during the 1860's.

"Amelia Belle McAfee was born 27 Jan, 1871. " Per the Cemetery listing of her sister, Mary Francis McAfee and the info my mother had on her grandmother, Mary Francis, we have a date of her birth ( Mary Francis McAfee's ) as being Jan. 24, 1871 in West Plains, MO.   Could these two daughters of Spencer and Surilda Jane Dunehew have been twins ?  - Tina Rogers Beller June 2003.

Per another file of Ira Welker Miller b. Dec. 14, 1878 he had wife named Permillia Belle Dora MacAfee whom we believe to be our Amelia B. ( Belle )  McAfee but the date of birth for Permillia Belle MacAfee is given being Jan. 27, 1877 in Bergman, Boone Co. AR.   More research is needed to clarify the name of this individual but we are going by our McAfee's records of census data and other court house files, which listed her as Amelia B. McAfee,  as the name of AMELIA has passed on in the McAfee lines.  I believe Amelia E. McAfee shown as age 3 on above 1880 Ozark Co. MO Census, may have been born closer to 1877 than to 1871 per Michael McAfee's files, however.    - Tina Rogers Beller, May 15, 2007.

Clearly by 1910 William W. McAfee had lost his first wife Atla S. and had remarried to a MANERVIA who is age 51 on this 1910 OK census.  With Myrtle A. McAfee being born abt. 1902 OK then this is approximate time that Manervia J. and William W. McAfee perhaps had married ( prior to 1902 and after his 1900 Newton Co. AR Census. )    As William W. McAfee's brother JASPER McAFEE is listed by some with a death date of 1909, perhaps William W. McAfee had arrived about then to Woodward Co. OK where Jasper McAfee died iin 1909 ?   - Tina Rogers Beller, Jan. 16, 2006.

Per Michael L. McAfee, BGEN on May 26, 2003 regarding SPENCER ALVIN MCAFEE :

Spencer Alvin McAfee was born on 15 DEC 1832, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, ( Western North Carolina .)  His mother was Elzira McAfee, born in North Carolina.  ( documentation sparse, yet reliable, ) in 1804.  He was the sixth of 10 children:
1 ) Berry McAfee ( Male ) 1824, North Carolina
2 ) ?   McAfee ( Male ) 1825-1830
3 )  ?  McAfee ( Male ) 1825-1830
4 )  ?  McAfee  ( Male )  1825-1830
5 ) Burton McAfee        1830      North Carolina
6 ) Spencer McAfee   15 JAN 1832   Rutherford County, North Carolina   14 Nov 1912 Boone County, Arkansas
7 )  John McAfee       1833    Georgia
8 ) Mahala McAfee  ( Female )   1835 Georgia
9 ) William McAfee                      1839 Georgia

She died 7 months after this marriage date and was buried on the North Fork of the White River in Fulton County, ( Sparks Cemetery. )  Several other members of the family moved iinto Arkansas from Georgia about the same time.  his brother, Berry was in Newton County during the 1860's.

1900 Boone Co. AR shows a William E. McAfee b. Oct. 1861 AR,  and wife Edna E. b. Feb. 1869 KY .   This same census shows that William E. McAfee's father was born in GA and his mother born in TN.   and that Edna's father was born in TN, and her mother born in MS.  Children for William E. McAfee and wife Edna are shown as Mary G. McAfee, b. March 1801 Indian Territory, ARKANSAS;   William H. McAfee b. Aug. 1893 AR ;   Nola M. McAfee b. Feb. 1895 MO;   Almeady McAfee b. Dec. 1896 MO and Spencer I. McAfee b.
