At The Meeting held in Mincy Valley,Taney Co Mo. on saturday
before the third sunday in November 1871 conducted by Elders A. Hopper.


Hyrem Hollers and J.F. Brittain.a part of the members of the Postoak grove
of United Babtist who had been leagelly dismissed from said Church by letter
Agreed to go into a Constitution of an Independent Church at This Place.
Wherefore Elder J.F. Brittain was chosen as Moderator Protem and Bro.
Creel Hopper CLK.PT.
The Names of those that went into the Constitution were
as Follows:
Clemon Hopper,Hyrem Hollars,Elizabeth J Hollers, Anderson Hopper,Mary Hopper,
J.F. Brittain,Mary Btittain,John Hutchenson,Creel Hopper,Sarah Hopper,
Sarah Pruitt, Marion Hopper, J.J. Firtner,Melissa Hopper Fortner
James M Hopper,Louisey Watts,Melvina Watts, Henrietta Watts,Noah Laws,
George Brittain,Memory Brittain.


These Brethens and Sisters were permitted To Constitute Themselves into
a church which we agree to call Mincy Valley .
Constituing Prayer was Offered by Elder A Hopper after which a Hymn was
sung and the hand of fellowship extended.
The Newly constitued Church then proceeded to business 1st by motion and
second agreed that we adopt the foregoing rules of Decorum
and Articles of Faith. 2nd by by motion and 2nd agreed that we hold our
regular Church meeting on Saturday before 3 rd Sunday of each month.

On The Following Sunday evening the Church met for Worship after which
oppertunity was given for persons to unite with the church when Brother
Francis Brittain came forward and was Received by relation.
The Meeting continued from day to day the followingweek .
on Monday eveningBrother Calvin Parton,Harvey Brittain,George Bly,Isaac
Speerand Sister Nancy Speer came forward and was received by relation
and Aaron Hutchenson was received as canidate for babtism.and Sister
Sarah Speer was received by letter.and Sister Tabitha Ridemore was
received by relation.
Tuesday evening Bro. James Hutchenson was received as a candidate
for Babtism and Sisters Nancy Hutchenson and Elizabeth Laws was
Received by relation.
Wednesday Evening Sister Sarah Brittain was received by relation
and Sister Sinthia Laws was received as Canditate for Babtism.and
Sister Tilphah T. Brittain was Received as a Candidate for Babtism.

Where the Ordinance of babtism was Administrated to Bros:Aaron

Mincy Valley Church Minutes Dec 1871

Saturday before 3rd Sunday in Dec 1871
The Church met and After Divine Serveces Proceeded to business
1st appointing Bro. Anderson Hopper Protem and Creel Hopper
Clk Protem

2nd Peace of the Church was called for all in peace.

3rd by motion and 2nd agreed that we build a house of Worship
on the following plan.
The House to be Hewed of Logs 18X20 Ft Square.2 windows
in each side.Doors in end and Pulpit in same in.floor
at Least 1 ft from ground.10 ft from floor to ceiling.
To be Covered with 2 ft boards showing 8 inches

Adjourned to meet at 6 o'clock pm
6 oclock :the church met and after Worship Proceeded to business.
1st took up the question of the Church house by motion And 2nd agreed
that we build the house At the site Offered By Bro. Anderson Hopper
in the Mincy Branch 1/2 mile Above the Mincy Post Office.
2nd by motion and second agreed that we appoint Bro Anderson Hopper
to supertend the building of said house.3rd by motion and 2nd that
we proceed to the election of a Pastor.,2 Deacons and a clerk.
The vote was taken which resulted in the election of Bro. James F
Brittain for Pastor and Bros.George Brittain and J.C. Speer for
Deacons and Creel Hopper as Clerk.

Sunday evening the Church met for worship after which an invitation was
given for persons to unite with the Church when Bro. Augusta P Marrs and
Sister Elizabeth Marrs came forward and was received by letter.


January 1872
Saturday before 3 rd Sunday in Jan 1872.
The Church met and after Worship proceeded to Business.
1st the minutes of the previous meeting was read and received.
2nd by motion and 2nd agreed that we call Bro. Anderson Hopper ,J.F.
Brittain And H Holler as Presbytery to examine and set apart for the office
of Deaconsthe 2 Bros Formely elected for office.
3rd Peace of the Church Called for-all in Peace notwithstandingig was found
that a Slanderous report was abroad concerning Bro. J.F. Brittain -where
upon a Committee of Bros. Vise,J.J. Fortner and John C Speer and Anderson
Hopper was appointed to investigate the matter and report at our next
regular meeting.
4th by motion and 2nd agreed that we license Bro John C Speer to preach
the Gospel
Adjourned to Order.


Feb 1872.
Saturday before 3 rd Sunday feb 1872.
The Church Met and after divine services proceeded to business in order.
1st minutes are the previous meeting was read corrected and received.
The Report of the Committee on investigation was called for and read
as follows:
We your Committee appointed to investigate as covering our Pastor do find
by investigating that they are false and we do hereby clear him of the
report.Anderson Hopper, John C Speer Jacob Fortner Committee
The Report was received and committee discharged.
3rd peace of the Church -call for-all in peace 4th request by Bro.
J.C. Speer he is released from the office of Deacon
and bro. J.J. Fortner was elected to the office.

Sunday at 10 oclock the Church met and presbytery Proceeded to
the Ordination of Bros George Brittain and J.J. Fortner to the
office of Deacons.


March 1872
Saturday before 3rd Sunday in March 1872
The Church met and after worship Proceeded to business.
1st minutes of previous meeting was read and received.
2nd peace of Church called for- all in peace.
3rd by request of Bro. John Hutchinson and Sister Sinthia
Hutchenson[his wife] and his Brother James Hutchenson and
his wife Nancy J. Hutchenson and his Brother Aaron Hutchenson .
they are granted letters of dismission from us

which an oppertunity was given for persons to unite with
the Church When Bro. R. B. Stafford And sister Amanda
Stafford And sister Emma Brittain all came forward and
was received as Candidates for babtism.

The Church Met and after Worship proceeded with business
in order.1st peace of the church Called ,All in Peace.
no other business on hand.

Sunday the Church met for Worship after which the
ordaince Babtism was admimistrated to Bro. R.B.
Stafford and Sister Amanda Stafford..
Sunday evening The Church met for worship after
which an opportunity was given to persons to unite
with the church when Bro James Gilstrap and Sister
Ann Gilstrap came forward and was received on a
promise of a letter.



Saturday before the 3rd Sunday in May 1872.
The Church met and after Divine services proceeded with business in order.
1st Bro.Anderson Hopper was appointed as Moderate protem
2nd the minutes of the previous meeting was read,corrected and received.
3rd peace and fellowship of the church was called whereupon the church
preferred the following charges against Bro Hyrem Hollers.
1st for making Unlawful and un christian Proposals to females
2nd for making use of profane language
4th by motion and second the church appointed Bro. J.J. Fortner and
Bro J.C. Speer to visit Bro Hollers and inform him of said charges
and request him to meet with us at our next regular meeting.

5th by request of Bro A. Hopper he is released from the
superintendency of the building of our Church and Bro
A.A. Karns was appointed in his Stead.

Sunday Evening -the church met for worship after which
an invitation was given to persons to unite to our church when
Sister Malina Stafford came forward and was received as a candidate
for babtism.

The Vote was taken by private ballot and resulted in the election
of Bro Bell.
2nd by motion Bro. A Hopper was appointed to visit or write Bro.Bell
and inform him of his call to the church.
3rd motion-by motion and 2nd Bro A Hopper,R.B. Stafford and Orlando
Jones was appointed messengers to bear our letter to the associaton

4th By Motion and Secord that hence forth we will be known as
BABTIST CHURCH OF CHRIST
5th the time having arrived to elect a Pastor and Clerk by
motion and second agreed to refer election to next meeting.

1st Bro J.R. chambers was chosen as Moderator Protem
2nd Minutes of previous meeting read and accepted
3rd Peace of Church called for whereupon Bro A Hopper
got up and stated that he had been overtaken in a
fault that he had got into a difficulty with Bro. J. F.
Brittain and that he had resorted to unchristain meams
and he prayed the church to forgive him for his fault.

4th By Reqest of Bro George Bly and sister Sinthia Bly
and sister Rebecca Jane Justice they are granted letters
of dismission from us.

where the ordinace of babtism was administrated to
Bro John Thomason,Sister Edny Jane Thomason, Bro Henry
Killman and sister Mary Killman.

The Church Met and after worship proceeded to business.
1st Peace of the Church called for-all in peace
2nd by motion and second that we extend an arm of the
church into the neighborhood of Bro T.A. Coulter
6 miles east of this place .




April,May.June and July 1874

The Church met for worship but no business was done
til the evening of the 3rd sunday in July.

An opperunity was given for persons to unite with the
church and sister Marania Bedrord came forward and was
received into the church by relation.and sister Amanda
Layton came forward as was received as candidate for babtism.



August 1874
sat before 3rd sun.in august
the church was met and after worship proceeded to business
1st peace of the church called for-all in peace
2nd an opperunity was given for persons to unite with the
church when Bro. Milford Hopper came forward and was received
as a candidate for babtism
3rd whereas in may 1872 certain charges were perferred against
Bro. Hyrem Hollars and a s plenty of time as been given and
said charges has totally failed to sustain ,wherefore by
motion and second agreed the church release Bro. Hollars and
exborenate him.
By Motion Adjourned to meet next tuesday evening.


Sunday morning the church met for worship after which they
repaired to water and Bro Milford Hopper and Sister Amanda
Layton were babtised by our pastor Elder J.R.Chambers.


Tuesday evening the church met and after worship proceeded
to business.
1st the time having arrived to call a pastor for the coming year
by motion and second this church agreed to go into election.
the vote was taken by acclaimanition which resulted in an
unanimus election of Bro J.R. Chambers.

attend us regular but the church continued to meet for worship each month

2nd By request of Bro T.A. Coulter and sister Virginia Coulter they

was appointed to visit said sisters and bro.,and bros Joshua Covey,
J.W. Pruitt and Creel Hopper were chosen as this committee.
4th: an invitation was given to unite with this church when Bro.R.P.Stafford
and sister Amanda Stafford was received by letter.
5th :the motion second and agreed we elect 2 elders this evening.

Sunday the church met at the water and the following

2nd;Reference to case of Bro. John Thomason taken up
and committee was called on for their report.so report
was made by Bro.
Bro.John Wilson as follows
I visited Bro John Thomason and notified him of the
charges against him and requested he meet with us
at our next regular meeting .so he stated that the
charges were partly false and that others that was
in the church was just as quilty as he was and unless
the church dealt with others that he had no confession
to make.
Report received and committe dismissed
4th; now whereas as matter in dispute rest between Bro.
John Thomason and sister Mary Killman therefore a
motion and second agreed that we withdraw ourselves
from said Bro.and sister for disorderly conduct.
5th peace of the church called for-and it was found
that the p[eace had been disturbed in this
-whereas Bro. John Spears who is now holding a letter
of dismission from us,also credentials of ordination
as a minister of the gospel, he having Publicly stated
that he intended to go to another church not of our
faith and practice therefore on motion and second we
appoint a committe to visit bro Spears and request him
to return our letter of dismission from us.
also his Credental of ordination as a minister of the
Gospel provided however that he has not changed his
mind in relation to this matter .

as committee

and Report was given by committee so they stated they
had visited bro spears and that he returned the papers
to them.

4th;Whereas Bros.John Spears,James T Anderson,Sister
Permilia Anderson,Bro Thomas Likens,Nancy Likens,Thomas
Sperry,Memory Sperry,Kisiah Hill Mary Barton Mahalia
Davis and Charles Layton hace all dis united with us
in church relations by organizing another church not
of our faith or practice agreed that we withdraw from
them from want of church fellowship.
5th Peace of Church Called for.and it was found that
the peace had been disturbed by reports that Bro. E.
Jackson had been intoxicated .that Bro. Jackson
being present made his confession that he was overtaken
in that fault and had yielded to temptation,and had at
different times been under the enfluence of
intoxication but he stated that he was very That
such was the case
and asked the church to forgive him his faults.
6th Bro Jackson granted and church forgave him

that there was a general report throughout the country
that Sister Elizzie De Jarnett is quilty of very
disordley conduct.whereupon a motion and second
agreed we appoint a committee of three sisters to
visit Sister De Jarnett and investigate
said report.at our next regular meeting.and sisters
Edna Watson,Mary Hopper and Jane Pruitt was appointed.
3rd Whereas bro. John Green has been absent from us
for 9 years and his whereabouts unknown therefore
agreed his name be dropped from our list.
4thInvitation given to unite but none received but
Sister Lenora Combs stated previous to her babtism
that she had not been renegated or born again but
since that time God has pardoned her sins and
request to now be babtized. her request is granted.

D.A.White preferred a charge against J.F. Brittain as
follows ;
J.F. Brittain is not a qualified minister of the Gospel
Charges and specifications retained by motion and
second and rejected by 29 against 5 upon which Wm Vice
withdrew and called the church a Band of "Robs" ?.

3rd; church elected Marion as Moderator and a charge
was preferred against Wm Vice for lying in order to
pull down others in order to build himself up .
Vice asserted that James F Brittain Preached that the
church of Jesus Christ was going to hell and sinners
was going too.

He asserted that J.F. Brittain was excluded from the
church for preaching hearsay.
Vice did assert that J.F. Brittain did preach the
immersion essential to remission of sins.
Wm V. Vice did assert that J.F. Brittain did not make
concesion to worry of suing remarks and before he was
excluded from the church.
Wm Vice did assert that he would never grant J.F.
Brittain a letter of Dismission from the church.
nor would never enter the stand again with him
for he is corrupt.and the charge was taken up and a
committe appointed to investigate

#1 I Can Prove that J.F. Brittain did preach
that the church of Jesus Christ is going to hell
and sinners with it,
#2 I can prove that there was a committe appointed
on the Akers case and i was on the committee.

#3 I can prove that J.F. Brittain did preach true
immersion in order of remission for sins

#4 I Can Prove By. D.A. White,and his wife,
E Jackson,Edney Watson, Emaline Jackson,

Sister Watson and Sister Jackson presented
their Evidence called for. they testified that
they never heard such statements made by Bro Brittain.

#5 I did say he was Excluded for preaching hearsay

#6 I did say and still say that J.F. Brittain did not
make Acknowledgement to the wrong of suing Sister Akers .
#7 J.F. Brittain is a lyer which i will prove by reading +
a letter from Bro. Clevenger which states that Vice
wrote to him stating that J.F. Brittain told at+
Mincy that Bro. Clevenger was accused of stealing a hog
[on investigation it was proven that J.F. Brittain never
said that Bro Clevenger stole a hog but that there was
a dispute between Bro Clevenger and some of the members
of the church on Bear Creek about a hog that was killed
at his house after Vise left his house.
Witnesses for J.F. Brittain were:
Wm Woodard,T.B. Langford,L.J. Bruner,E Jackson,C.T.
Pruitt,Wm S Smith,Fredrick Dola, Wm H Gilstrap,
Marion Hopper, H Pruitt,

 

Specifactions against J.F. Brittain was then
proven false
a second charge was then brought againdt Wm
Vice and
all that withdrew with him from the church.
