Query #1
FRY / LOHMANN / SCHWECHTEN / MITCHELL
I am researching the descendants of Hermann L. FRY. Hermann married my aunt Emma LOHMANN in Texas in Freestone County, TX on June 6,1896.
A known daughter, Ruby Alpha FRY, was born April 9,1902, probably in Arkansas. Post cards show that she was in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1921. She studied Stenography and Bookkeeping. Graduated Coffeyville H.S. 5/19/21. She may have gone to Kansas University. Emma took care of her younger sister, Selma, after their mother's death in1895 for some time.
As indicated in a letter to August LOHMANN, their father and my grandfather, on 1/1/1906 Emma was in Dodd City, Marion County, Arkansas. Emma's husband Herman L. FRY was a legal agent and superintendent in 1905 for the Iola Mining and Milling company in Iola, Kansas. (A facility may have been in Zinc, Arkansas, county unknown). George A. FRY was the president of the Iola Mining Company. They may have been in Boone County Arkansas and mailed the letter from Dodd City.
In addition the letter said:
a. That she was in poor health.
b. Uncle Fritz SCHWECHTEN was dead. Died 7/13/05 in Leavenworth hospital with cancer of the stomach.
c. Otto SCHWECHTEN (Fritz's son) was in Chicago and didn't come to his father's death.
d. Emma wrote Aunt Fredrieka [Schwechten] RABE about Fritz's death. Fredrieka had already heard from Mrs. Maily that Fritz was dead.
e. Mrs. Maily has four kids. Helen the youngest is getting married soon. Mrs. Maily's husband has been bed ridden for 12 years with rhumetism.
f. Suggests that Willie ( Wilhelm Heinrich LOHMANN, aka William Henry Lohman, my father) come to Arkansas to learn about mining and work with Herman FRY and learn about mining.
g. Katie LOHMANN MITCHELL, another sister, was in Belton going to school in1905.
h. Annie, another sister, was with Emma for one month in 1905.
i. Annie was there when Emma got "Step-Mother's" letter about not having been married to August in a church.
j. She apologies for the "hot" letter that she wrote about his, August, not being married.
k. Implies that Hermann FRY's mother lives in their area and that she is 73yrs.
I thank all for any assistance. John Lohman

BAKER
02 Dec 1998
I am seeking information on my maternal grandfather's family. His name was Felix Jasper Baker, b. 1888, d. 1939, son of Levi Francis and Mary Ann Whitlock Baker, m. Effie Jane Cline of Marion County (no date), one daughter, Florene Baker, b. 2/7/17, m. Lloyd Fisk of Mountain Home 4/27/40. I found a marriage record on the Boone County website showing Levi and Mary Ann as being married on 6/25/1875 in Boone Co. Levi's father was Andrew Baker who had a farm at Bear Creek Springs north of Harrison. My Mom says that Andrew's brother was Felix S. Baker, for whom my grandfather was named (along with Jasper Whitlock), who served at various times as postmaster and federal land agent in Boone County.
I found a land patent for Felix S. in Boone County (1861). Andrew also supposedly had a sister, Letitia, who married W. H. "Bill" Cecil of the Cecils who had the big grocery/general store in Harrison. Supposedly the Baker family came from either Smyth or Wythe County in Virginia. My Mom's family lived intermittently in Harrison and my grandfather was an auto mechanic and also ran a taxi cab service.
I would appreciate your posting this message on your Query page. If anyone has information on this family and can help me trace them farther back, I would be most happy to correspond.

ERWIN / McCALLISTER (all spellings)
I am looking for families of John T. ERWIN, b. abt 1818, and Charlotte McCALLISTER, b. abt 1821, probably in Mason Co., VA (now WV). John was probably the son of Edward ERWIN and Mary BARNETT, but I need proof. I would like to find the parents of Charlotte. She was quite likely thedaughter of either James or William McCALLISTER; each had a daughter about the right age, and each lived near the ERWINs 1820-1840. John and Charlotte married about 1840-45, and they were the parents of at least three children: Mary Margaret (b. 1846), Samantha Jane (b. 31 Aug 1848), and Samuel (b. abt 1862, probably MO or AR). The family was in Putnam Co. VA (now WV) in 1850, but I cannot find the parents after that. Does anyone know where the family went from Putnam Co.? The most likely places were southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, but I cannot find them in those areas.
Margaret married Lewis LUNTSFORD/LUNSFORD/LOUNCEFORD and lived in Taney Co., MO. Samantha married Henry C. HUNT, 15 May, 1870, in Boone Co., AR, and they were the parents of four children: Mary Gertrude, John Erwin, Oquilla Knox, and Cora Lou. This couple went to Lamar Co., TX, where they both died. Samuel married first, Lillie DORLAND, and second, Bettie ?, and lived in Taney Co., MO. Samuel and Lillie were the parents of John L., Stella L., Leonard J., and Florence Edith.
I would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about these families. I have more information to share.

DESHIELDS
I am looking for Handy DeShields(1819?) and Nancy Womack DeShields (1824?). I believe Nancy was born in Arkansas and Handy in Tennessee (census records). Handy, William, John, Dan and Frances came to Boone County (Lead Hill /Dubuque) in about 1840-1844. They were supposed to be on their way to Oregon. Frances married in Little Rock and never made Lead Hill. Dan and his familycontinued on to Oregon never stopping in Lead Hill. We never heard about them again. William DeShields and Elizabeth McBride DeShields stayed in Arkansas from about 1840 to 1850, arriving in Oregon in about 1854. They left one daughter in Arkansas. The reason they stopped in Arkansas is Elizabeth was pregnant. She had had a son, William Jasper, born in Beech Grove, TN in 1838. Then a daughter in Little Rock in 1843. I believe this may be the child who caused the stop. They appeared on the tax rolls in 1844. Williams first child to be born in Oregon was in 1851. We have been looking for this information for 20 years. Please help us find William and Handy's parents.
I have several other genealogies for the Boone Co. Area I will share.
