Edward N. Johnson

Edward N. Johnson was born May 30, 1848 and died Dec 18, 1904. He married Martha J. Woodruff, born June 11, 1849 and died Oct 7, 1915.

They are buried in Union Hill Cemetery. Buried on the Left or South side of Edward is his son Harvey F. Johnson; only the years are on his headstone, 1876 - 1955. On the other side of Martha is their son William Fred Johnson, born May 11, 1884 and died Dec 25, 1918. Beside Fred is his wife Ruth Ezell Johnson, born Nov. 19, 1883 and died Aug. 14, 1972.

JOHNSON FAMILY HISTORY:

Zachariah Johnson, a Protestant of Scots decent, was born in Ireland in 1740. By the time he was 19, he had crossed the ocean, settled in South Carolina, married name unknown and in 1759 became the father of a son, Shadrach Johnson. Shadrach had a son named William, who was born about 1775, in S.C. he married a woman named Johanna (last name unknown), and in his middle to later years moved to Choctaw County, Mississippi. William L. married Emelia Gentry; she was known as Millie. These children are listed on the 1850 Mississippi Census, Choctaw County Household #225

Edward N. Johnson enlisted in Company "H" McNair's Brigade Arkansas Infantry serving from 1863 - 1865. (Military record from Jann Woodard Civil War Records) He received 120 acres Homestead in the Jersey area of Bradley County. The deed was signed by President Grover Cleveland on January 2, 1895. He married Martha J. Woodruff who was born June 11, 1849 and died Oct 7, 1915; all of their children were born in Bradley County:

Harvey F. born August 1876 married Nora Belle Brooks and later remarried.
Thomas Benjamin Johnson was born 1878 and married Della M. Ferguson
Mary was born March of 1881
James S. Johnson was born June 1888 and married Alice Haygood
William Fred Johnson was born May 11, 1884 and died Dec 25, 1918. He married Ruth Ezell Johnson who was born Nov. 19, 1883 and died Aug. 14, 1972. They are buried in Union Hill Cemetery.
Ruth’s parents were Kate and Cleve Ezell.
William Fred died from pneumonia leaving his wife with four children: Ilema, Bernice, Edward and William Doyle Johnson who was only four years old when his father died. Doyle was born July 30, 1914 and he married Myrtis Arlene Smith on July 25, 1936. He served as PFC US ARMY" "WORLD WAR II. They had only one child who is still living.
