Temperance Rice


Banks, July 5. [1926] -- (Special.) -- Mrs.
Temperance Caroline Rice died here
at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Walter Risher, at 2 o'clock Saturday
afternoon. She was born in Coweta
county, Georgia, August 21, 1843, re-
moved to this state and has resided
in this vicinity since she was ten
years old. She is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Walter Risher of
Banks, Mrs. G.W. McLeod of El Do-
rado, and Mrs. Lulu Gammell of
Warren; six sons, Robert, George,
Rufus and Roscoe of this county;
Rev. John Rice of Oklahoma, and Ira
Rice of Abilene, Tex.

Mrs. Rice was the mother of a re-
markable family. There were 14 chil-
dren, all of whom reached maturity
and became parents. In addition to
the nine children who survive her,
she leaves 78 grandchildren, 103
great-grandchildren, and two great-
great-grandchildren; altogether 197
surviving descedants [sic].
