Descendants of Hardy Keele POOL

Hardy Keele POOL was born on October 25, 1802 in Fairfield County, SC. Most records show Hardy born in Georgia however Walter was in Fairfield County, South Carolina in the 1790, 1800, and 1810 censuses. His son, Hardy Garrison Poole, listed his father's place of birth as North Carolina in the 1880 census. He died on July 12, 1873 in Union County, AR. He was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Oakland, Union County, AR.

1832 - Hardy K. Poole drew Lot Number 1079, District 21, Section 2 in the 1832 gold lottery. This lot is located in present day Cherokee or Cass County

1833 - The Southern Recorder, Wednesday, February 27, 1833 reported that Hardy K. Poole applied for letters of administration on the estate of Walter Poole, late of said county, deceased (signed) J. L. Hopkins C.C.O.

1833 - On Monday, May 6, 1833, Hardy Keele Poole was appointed administrator of Walter Poole's estate. A bond of $800.00 was posted by Hardy K. Poole. Securities on the bond were Richard Gunn, and Ferdinand Beam. (Minutes of the Inferior Court, page 153).

1833 - Monday, November 4, 1833, the court ordered that Hardy K. Poole, administrator of Walter Poole, have leave to sell the whole of the real estate belonging to said deceased. (Minutes of the Inferior Court, page 160).

1834 - On November 3, 1834, Robert T. Poole purchased Lot Number 115, 20th District, of originally Lee County now Stewart County, Georgia from Hardy K. Pool as administrator of Walter Pool's estate for $99/00. Recorded in Newton County, Georgia, Ordinary Court, Book 6, page 457 in June, 1835. Note: This was the land that Walter drew for his Revolutionary War service in 1827.

1835 - Hardy filed a return on Walter's estate with the May, 1835 Term of the Inferior Court (Minutes of the Inferior Court, page 199). He completed his administrative duties at the November, 1835 Term (Minutes of the Inferior Court, page 215).

1836 - Land sale by Green B. (Berry) Turner of Newton County, Georgia to Hardy K. Pool of Marion County, Georgia, for $100.00, Land Lot Number 337 in the 9th District of formerly Henry now Newton County, 150 acres/m/o/l, that part of said lot where Josiah Reed formerly lived. Witnesses were Richard Aycock and Jos. S. Anderson, J.I.C. Recorded March 25, 1836. (Newton County, Georgia, Deed Book E, page 401).

1840 - Hardy was enumerated in District 709, Marion County, Georgia. The household included one male under 5, one male 5-10, three males 10-15, one male 20-30, and one male 30-40. There was one female under 5, one female 5-10, one female 15-20, and one female 20-30.

1840 - Hardy K. Poole was on the September, 1840, Grand Jury in Marion County, Georgia.

1850 - Hardy K. Poole, a 48 year old farmer born in South Carolina was enumerated in LaPile Township, Union County, Arkansas. Also, his wife, Sarah D., aged 35, born Georgia; their son, Thos. P., aged 12, born in Georgia and their daughter, Frances, aged 10, born Georgia. His real estate was valued at $720.00.

1859 - Hardy K. Pool recorded a land transaction in Union County, Arkansas on July 1, 1859 (NESE, Section 35 Township 19S, Range 12W, Fractional Section N, 5th Principal Meridian, 40 acres.)

1860 - Hardy enumerated 35/35/ in Lapile Township, Union County, Arkansas with his wife, Sarah, son, Thos. P., aged 22 and daughter, Frances N., aged 19. Hardy was listed as a farmer with real estate valued at $5000.00 and personal property valued at $500.00.

1870 - Hardy, aged 68, is enumerated with his wife, Nancy, aged 34; his children, Julia, aged 4 and Ellen, aged 2. Nancy's children, Henry and Mary Craven by her first marriage were also in the household. Hardy's occupation was listed as a farmer. His real estate was valued at $500.00, and his personal property was valued at $200.00.


Hardy Keele POOL was married to Charlotte VAUGHAN (daughter of Frederick VAUGHAN and [--?--] [--?--]) on October 31, 1824 in Newton County, GA. Charlotte VAUGHAN died about 1831 in Newton County, GA. Date of death estimated from Hardy's second marriage.
Hardy Keele POOL and Charlotte VAUGHAN had the following children:

                 1) Harrison Keele POOLE C. S. A. (born about 1824).
                  Frederick POOLE was born about 1826 in Newton County, GA.12 He died on January 29, 1859. Frederick died from pneumonia.
                                                      Frederick hurt his foot in an accident at the mill and was crippled. He never married.
                  2) Private William Tappley "Will" POOL C. S. A. (born on September 8, 1828).
                  3) Private Hardy "Frost" Garrison POOL C. S. A. (born on May 1, 1830).

Hardy Keele POOL was married to Sarah "Sally" Davis PHILLIPS (daughter of Lemuel PHILLIPS) on December 13, 1831 in Covington, Newton County, GA. Sarah "Sally" Davis PHILLIPS was born on June 7, 1815 in Stone Mountain, DeKalb County, GA She died on February 12, 1863 in AR. She was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Oakland, Union County, AR.

                                                      She was also known as Francis N. Poole.

Hardy Keele POOL was married to Nancy N. "Polly" COLE on February 16, 1865 in Union County, AR. Ceremony was performed by the Reverend Isaac Newton. Marriage is recorded in El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book B, page 321. Nancy N. "Polly" COLE was born on May 3, 1836. She died on May 4, 1915 in Union County, AR.

1) Harrison Keele POOLE C. S. A. (Hardy Keele-1) was born about 1824 in Newton County, GA. He was married to Martha Caroline ADAMS on February 14, 1849 in El Dorado, Union County, AR. Marriage is recorded in Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book A, page 82. Marriage license listed the wife's maiden name as Martha Caroline Adams. Martha Caroline ADAMS was born about August 1834. She died about February 1916.
Harrison Keele POOLE and Martha Caroline ADAMS had the following children:

                  Susan POOLE was born about December 1849 - Susan died young.
                  Yancey POOLE was born about 1850. He died after 1850 - Yancey died young.

2) Private William Tappley "Will" POOL C. S. A. (Hardy Keele-1) was born on September 8, 1828 in Newton County, GA. He died on February 10, 1903 in Union County, AR. He was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Oakland, Union County, AR. He was also known as W. F. Poole. William served with Dockery's, Company G, 19th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry. He enlisted on March 1, 1862 and was on the muster roll for March 1 to April 30, 1863. He was captured on July 4, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi and paroled there on July 13, 1863. He lost an arm during the war. He was married to B. Caroline DESHAZO about 1851 in Union County, AR. Marriage is recorded in Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book B, page 53. B. Caroline DESHAZO was born on May 20, 1833. She died on November 16, 1910 in Union County, AR.

3) Private Hardy "Frost" Garrison POOL C. S. A. (Hardy Keele-1) was born on May 1, 1830 in Newton County, GA. He died on May 19, 1888 in Oakland, Union County, AR. He was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Oakland, Union County, AR.8 Hardy served as a private with Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, Arkansas Infantry. He enlisted May 11, 1862 at Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. He was discharged July 26, 1862 on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. He was married to Susan Rebecca GATHRIGHT (daughter of James C. GATHRIGHT and Elizabeth [ --?-- ]) on February 8, 1852 in Union County, AR. 1880 - Grandson, James Smith, aged 12, (review of census record leads me to believe that the age is 2 not 12), born Arkansas, and granddaughter, Elizi Smith, aged 4 months, were enumerated in the household.


4) Louisa Jane "Lucy Jane" POOLE (Hardy Keele-1) was born on February 7, 1836 in Newton County, GA. She died on November 13, 1883 in Union County, AR. She was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Oakland, Union County, AR. [ Source Isabel Gathright ]. She was married to Jesse Franklin GATHRIGHT C. S. A. (son of James Collins GATHRIGHT and Mary Elizbeth PARNELL) on February 8, 1852 in Union County, AR.Jesse Franklin GATHRIGHT C. S. A. was born on February 5, 1831 in GA. He died on July 4, 1863. Jessie died in the Civil War at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Louisa Jane "Lucy Jane" POOLE and Jesse Franklin GATHRIGHT C. S. A. had the following children:

Lucy Jane POOLE GATHRIGHT married Emanuel Moffitt EVANS twice. I have the info from the courthouse in Union County. It seems he was not legally divorced from his second wife when he married Lucy Jane. Lucy Jane was pregnant when she found this out, and family lore says that she kicked him out and told him to come back with his divorce papers. He sent an older son from his first marriage to Pine Bluff in Jefferson County to get his final divorce papers. In checking for a divorce in Pine Bluff, I discovered that his second marriage ended in an annulment. It is an interesting account. I will look over my original records if you are interested in any of this. She was married to Emanuel Moffett EVANS on January 29, 1874 in Union County, AR.

                                    Thomas Peter (Tom Pete) POOLE born July 5, 1914. He died Dec.15, 1991.
                                                He married Clara HOGUE POOLE March 9, 1950; There were no children from this marriage.

8) Walter Scott POOLE (Hardy Keele-1) was born on April 27, 1871 in Lapile, Union County, AR. He died on October 20, 1952. He was married to L. S. GILMORE about 1888 in Union County, AR. Marriage is recorded in Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book A-1, page 101.


9) Dona Charlotte POOLE (Harrison Keele-2, Hardy Keele-1) was born on July 9, 1854. She died on August 9, 1909. She was married to Alexander Rutherford EVANS about August 1873. Alexander Rutherford EVANS was born on September 5, 1849 in Eufaula, Barbour County, AL. He died on March 25, 1877. Alexander had a stroke and was sick for a long time. He was buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Oakland, Union County, AR.
Dona Charlotte POOLE and Alexander Rutherford EVANS had the following children:

                  Willie Lee DAILEY was born about 1886 in Drew County, AR. He died about 1887. Willie lived for 18 months.

He was married to Jenetta "Nettie" BRATTON (daughter of James BRATTON and Nancy [--?--]) on November 11, 1875 in Warren, Bradley County, AR. Ceremony performed by Alfred McClendon, J. P. The marriage is recorded in Warren, Bradley County, Arkansas, Book B, page 172. Jenetta "Nettie" BRATTON was born about 1859.

                                    Clarence Albert Poole was born March 11, 1913 died July 13, 1976 in Crossett, Ashley County, AR. He married
                                                      Lola Mae Vines on June 20, 1936 in Bradley County, AR . They had 8 children.
                                    Hardie E. Poole born Oct. 8, 1916 at 7:00am in Little Rock, Pulaski County, AR. He joined the Army on Oct. 2, 1942,
                                                      died on November 6, 1944 in WWII on Leyte Island, Philippines and was buried there. He married
                                                      Louise Gorman on August 2, 1941 by S. H. Vaughn recorded in Bradley County by Clarence
                                                      Parnell in Book R page 429 filed on the 4th day of Aug. 1941. They had one son and one daughter (living)
                                    Gladies (Gladys) Poole was born March 14, 1918.She died March 3, 1952. She was invalid; She never married.

Hardy Keele POOLE married Martha Mae "Mattie" HALL December 11, 1889 in Warren, AR. Martha Mae "Mattie" HALL was born 1871 in AR. and died 1955. They are buried in Oakland Cemetery, Warren, Bradley Co., AR.

                  Iva POOLE born 1890. She married John Adams. Iva and John Adams’ children were: Grady, Kenneth William, Wilton Rosa Adams

11) Ellen POOLE (Harrison Keele-2, Hardy Keele-1) was born about 1858. Ellen died young. She was married to Elias HADLEY about 1877 in Union County, AR. Marriage is recorded in Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book D, page 221.


12) Mary F. "Skeet" POOLE (William Tappley "Will"-2, Hardy Keele-1) was born about 1855 in Union County, AR. She died about 1911. She was married to Frank M. HARRELL in 1878 in Union County, AR. Marriage is recorded in Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book E, page 043. She was married to Alley VESTAL.


13) William Joshua "Josh" POOLE35 (William Tappley "Will"-2, Hardy Keele-1) was born on December 18, 1858 in Union County, AR.  He died on February 25, 1936 in Union County, AR. He was buried in Myrtle Grove Cemetery, LA? When he was young his nickname was "Bull." He was married to Frances Rebecca HEAD (daughter of Thomas Jackson HEAD and Frances JOHNSON) on March 14, 1877 in Union County, AR. Marriage is recorded in Union County, Arkansas, Marriage Book D, page 247. Frances Rebecca HEAD was born on April 1, 1858 in AL. She died on February 12, 1919 in Union County, AR. She was buried in Rehobeth Cemetery, Union County, AR. Cemetery coordinates are North 33 degrees 17 minutes and West 92 degrees 41 minutes.
