Farmville Baptist Churches

"I just talked to my aunt who grew up in the Farmville Community. She says there were two church buildings there. One was the Missionary Baptist Church and the other one was vacant for a long time. Then in the early 1940's the Southern Baptist Church started in the once vacant building. My grandparents had gone to the "Missionary Baptist Church" (The Farmville Church) but then started going to the Southern Baptist Church called the "Pleasant Grove Church." The school building was located between the two churches. It had two rooms. She said they called them the "Big" room, where the 5th thru the 8th grades were, and the "Little" room, which held the first through fourth grades. My aunt went to Hermitage in her 9th and 10th year at school. Myrtle Veazey had a pick up truck and she put some kind of cover on the bed of that truck and hauled the Farmville kids to school at Hermitage. She stated that there was no heat, of course, so it was very, very cold. Ms. Veazey was my third grade teacher in Hermitage. She had also taught my brother-in-law in Vick many years before that." ~~Ann
