The Churches of Bradley County ~ Shady Grove Baptist Church -- Jersey

Church Schedule:
Rev. Olen Greenwood preaches at the Shady Grove Baptist Church of Jersey on the Saturday night before the first and second Sundays of each month at seven o'clock. He also preaches on the following Sunday at nine.

History:
The Shady Grove Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches that may be found in South Arkansas. It was founded on October 2, 1847, with G. I. Perry and William Larkin serving as Presbyters. The charter members of the church were Alexander Black, R. W. Anders, E. C. Paschal, Nancy Anders, Amy Childs, Rebecca Black, and Sarah Hawthorne.
Through 120 years of service to this area of Bradley County, the Shady Grove Baptist Church as had a most distinguished history. The first building of the church was of log construction. The present church ediface has stood for many years and was remodeled only recently, with aluminum windows and screens being put in and the interior of the church building being repainted. The exterior portion of the building is to be repainted soon.
Shady Grove Baptist Church has a large and impressive cemetery in which many of the pioneer citizens of southwest Bradley County are laid to rest.
The church is located just northeast of Jersey on the road to Banks.
