From the Clay County Courier:

"The above picture shows the old-time ferry crossing Black river East of Corning some 60 years ago.  Seated in the last wagon are Dick Cantwell and George Vines and standing in the last wagon is Charles M. Vines...  all three farmers at that time across the river.  Charles M. Vines later became an employee of the Arkansas Highway Department and one of his duties was to supervise turning of the old steel frame Black river bridge when dredge boats needed to get through.  He turned the old bridge the last time it was turned, in the 1940s.  The steel bridge was replaced by the present concrete structure."
