Charlie David Turney was born and raised his family around the Higden, Arkansas area. He was the son of Henry Turney and Henry's second wife, Matilda Polk. He was born 11 Oct 1849 in Van Buren Co., AR along with a twin brother Benjamin. His wife was born 18 May 1849 in Tippah Co., Mississippi. One of his sons, Peter G. married Leona Mullins March 15, 1903. A few days later Charlie D. and most of his family left the Higden, AR area for Oklahoma. That is where Charlie D. and Susan died. GONE TO HIS REWARD

"Uncle" Charlie Turney, who was a prosperous farmer living in Big Prairie neighborhood, died in All-Saints hospital McAlester, last Friday night. Last Monday morning Mr. Turney's left leg was amputated. It is reported death was not due to the operation performed, but from other complications, which later set in.

The deceased was about 60 years old and leaves a wife and serveral children. Funeral Director Humphrey of McAlester conveyed the remains to Kiowa and was interred in the city cemetery, services being conducted at the grave by the Masons, of which order he was a member. Mr. Turney was a good man, loved by all in his neighborhood and will be sadly missed.
