                        I, T.K. Ashcraft, do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army of the Confederate States, being a member of Capt. A.H. Halliday’s Co. D, 26th Regiment of Infantry from the State of Arkansas called _______________; that I was honorably released from such service on or about the 23rd day of May 1865 and did not desert the same (but, was absent a Short time) that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life, and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result of Exposure received in the service, being chronic rheumatism in both feet and ankles also diabetes or of age, accident or disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

        I, J.F. Crump, a duly registered and practicing physician in Cleveland County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with T.K. Ashcraft of Annover, Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.

 

                That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition, and find:

State description and character of wound: No wound.

 

Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable: Is suffering from chronic rheumatism in both feet and ankles also in hips. His chronic bronchitis – causing cough which is persistent and annoying, also has diabetes and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.

 

Extent of disability The applicant cannot follow his usual avocation – farming – account rheumatism as he cannot hold out to plow. Therefor he is not to be rated for more than one half a hand.

                On this day personally came before the undersigned, a Justice of the peace within and for the County of Cleveland and State of Ark’s, R.P. Owen and J.W. Curry Sr. citizens of Cleveland Co. whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with T. H. Ashcraft and have known him 42 years, respectively.

 

                That  he  was  a  Confederate soldier.  Belonging  to  Company  D, 26 th Regiment  of  Arkansas Infantry. That as such soldier he served from the 1st of June 1862 to the 23rd of May 1865. That he was honorably released from such service, and did not desert the same, but was absent a Short time. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of Disease and old age 70 years and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.

 

That to the best of our knowledge, all property now owned by him and his wife together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, or the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year.             I, S. D. Hughes, a duly registered and practicing physician in Cleveland County, Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally well acquainted with T.K. Ashcraft of Cleveland Co., Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas.

 

That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition, and find:

State description and character of wound: No wound of any kind.

 

Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable: Chronic Diarrhea Which was caused by Exposure and Improper Food during the Civil War. he is also unable to Walk Part of his time. Pagophxia [‘Pagophxia’ was underlined indicating misspelling]. Acquired while in Service in the Army is the cause of being unable to walk at times and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. No, as he is a very Prudant Man

 

 

Extent of disability I should say is about total disability as he can Scarcely do any kind of Manual labor. and is growing worse on account of age.

that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life (or am totally blind), and that such incapacity (or disability), being from old age am now Seventy three years Old rheumatism, Kidney trouble and poor health generally Caused by exposure while in the Service ~ or of age, accident or disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God.

That he was honorably released from such service, and did not desert the same. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months, a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of old age, Hieematsm [hematuria] general debility and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.

Ashcraft, do solemnly swear that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I am now drawing a pension as an ex-Confederate soldier, under an Act of the General Assembly of 1901, having made my original application from the county of Cleveland; that I am still in indigent circumstances; that I do not myself, nor does my wife, nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel),  nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension,  and  that  neither  I  nor  my  wife  is  in  receipt  of any income,  annuity,

 

pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of an office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life; that my disability has increased, and I am less able to perform manual labor than when my original application was made, be reason of old age, Totally disabled and general Disability and incapacity for any kind of manual labor and I hereby make application for an increase of pension, under Act of the General Assembly of 1907.
