CLARK, IRIS
ELIZABETH MOORE (Mrs. William Edward), cultural leader, 12 Beverly Place, Little rock. she
was born in Cleveland County, Arkansas, the daughter of Ira E. and Elizabeth (May) Moore,
and is of Irish and English descent. Mrs. Clark was graduated from Ouachita College,
Arkadelphia, Arkansas with the Bachelor of Letters degree and the Bachelor of Music degree
from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. she was married on June 5, 1912, to William
Edward Clark of Union County, Arkansas and they have one son, William Moore Clark, who is
now an Attorney in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was graduated from Vanderbilt University,
Nashville, Tennessee and Yale Law School. He served with the rank of Lieutenant in
the United States Naval Reserve during world War II. He is married to the
former Miss Elizabeth Hall, of Nashville, Tennessee, who was also graduated from
Vanderbilt university. They have two children: William Moore, Jr., and Elizabeth. Prior to
her marriage, Iris Moore was Director of the Music Department of Laneview College,
Trenton, Tennessee, 1909-1911. During 1912-20, she was Director of Music in the Schools at
Strong, Arkansas, at which time she was Editor of the Arkansas State Music Magazine. From
1920 until 1938, Mrs. Clark was active in the civic and cultural affairs of El Dorado,
Arkansas. She made her winter home in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1948 she moved to Little
Rock. Mrs. Clark is a member of the Cultural Affairs Committee of the Little Rock Chamber
of Commerce, a Patron Member of the Arkansas Arts Center, past State president of the
Arkansas Division of the American pen Women, Regional Chairman for Washington Cathedral in
the Arkansas Diocese from 1958-61, and in May, 1963 was elected a member of the Board of
Trustees of the National Cathedral Association, Washington, D.C. As a member of the
Arkansas Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she is director of Deco and
Furnishings of the 18th Century Room in the Arkansas Old State House Museum. Mrs. Clark is
a member of the Colonial Dames of America, the Little Rock Garden Club, the Garden Club of
America, the Little Rock Country Club and the Arkansas Fine Arts Museum. She is a
communicant of Christ Episcopal Church in Little Rock. |
