Kingsland, Second Town in County, Organized in 1884

Kingsland was the second town in the county to be incorporated, the incorporation taking place July 22, 1884, under an order of the County Court of Dorsey County.

A large group of residents of the proposed town had signed a petition to the court and the petition was approved on that day by Judge J. H. Bridges.  Atty. Woodson Mosley represented the petitioners before the court.

At the time of its incorporation, Kingsland had a population of around 500.  It was located on the St. Louis, Arkansas & Texas Railroad (now Cotton Belt Railway), which had only a few years previously been built through this section of the state.
