One Dallas County, Arkansas Pioneers

DEACON David C. HALL was born in Alabama, but came to Arkansas with his father's family when he was only a boy and settled in Dallas County, and subsequently became a member of New Hope church, and soon afterwards was ordained a deacon of that church. He was a prosperous farmer and a public-spirited man. He took an active part in denominational work, was in the organization of the State Convention at Tulip in 1848, was a member of its Board of Trustees after it became a chartered body. He was a modest, retiring man, but his presence in all our meetings was an inspiration. He raised five noble sons, who became good citizens and prominent Baptist. He moved to Arkadelphia about the time Ouachita College was located there, and contributed his share both in counsel and in means, as did also his sons, in the founding of that institution of learning. He died in the summer of 1887, aged about 65 years.

One correction - David Clark Hall was born in Georgia, not Alabama. He married first Martha Ann Dickinson December 26, 1844 in Clark County. He married second Lucy Harrison Kitrell December 26, 1871. David Clark Hall was the son of Samuel (William?) Hall and his wife Mary Hamilton Hall. They are both buried at old Tulip; however, both grave markers are no longer there.

Death of David C. Hall
Mr. David C. Hall died at his residence in this city, Tuesday night, the 24th inst., from inflammation of the bowels, caused by measles. Mr. Hall came to Clark County in 1836, raised one crop and then moved to Dallas County, where he resided until last spring, when he removed to this city for the purpose of educating his children in the Baptist college.
Mr. Hall at his death was 65 years old, and had been a member of the Baptist church for over 40 years. He was a truly good man and citizen, and the entire community feels his loss. A wife, seven children and a host of relatives and friends mourn his demise.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. G. W. Reeves, were held in the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, and the remains, escorted by a large concourse of mourners, were conveyed to Rose Hill cemetery and consigned to their last resting place.
