J. B. Langford

TEXAS CITY, Texas -- J. B. "Pappaw" Langford, 82, of Texas City, Texas, died February 15, 2002, at his home.

Born March 25, 1919, at New Edinburg, Arkansas, he was a son of the late Jack Langford and Katrena Langford Rice.

He served four years in the Army under General George Patton, 7th Army, 250 Battalion. He landed on Normandy (Omaha Beach) within the first few days of the initial invasion. He was awarded four Bronze Stars for Normandy, North France, Rhineland and Central European Campaigns.

He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and was entitled to wear the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon and three Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged December 3, 1945.

He was a member of Freeway Baptist Church at Texas City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Wallace Langford; and two sisters, Vonnie Bryant and Betty "Sissy" Thompson.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Langford and Ronnie Langford; three brothers, Berton Langford, Kenneth Langford and Don Langford; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Benton Funeral Home at Fordyce, Arkansas, with the Rev. Harold Simms officiating. Burial will be in Stoney Point Cemetery at Fordyce.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the AMED Hospice at Texas City.
