Thomas Hawkins & Mary E. (Bland) Riggan


Thomas Hawkins Riggan was the son of Edward Durham Riggan of Warren County, North Carolina and his wife Sarah W.( Harris) Riggan. Thomas arrived in Arkansas with his parents some time before 1850. The family appears in the 1850 Hot Springs County Census for Saline Township. Some time before 1855, Thomas moves to Dallas County, settling in the Chester Township area.

Thomas married Mary E. "Polly" Bland, daughter of Huram Dow & Obedience (Brazel) Bland, on 23 May 1855 in Dallas County, Arkansas. This marriage produced twelve children: Rebecca R. (1856-1920), John D. (1858-), James C. (1859-1942), Martha B. (1862-), Mary A. T. (1864-1914), Hiram Jacob (1867-1962), Elijah J. (1869-1941), Sally E. (1874-1946), Nora Evelyn (1875-1950), Ella J. (1879-1972), Edward Durham (1881-1964), and Samuel H. (1884-1970).

Thomas, Mary & most of their children are buried in either Hopewell Cemetery or Mt. Zion Cemetery in Carthage, Arkansas.
