Singleton & Cornelia (Dunn) Adams

singleton and cornelia adams

Singleton Adams was born 15 April 1844 in Coweta County, Georgia. He was the sixth child of twelve children born to Absalom and Sarah Ann (Brooks) Adams. He married Cornelia Anne Dunn in Dallas County on 1 Dec 1870. He died 23 April 1912 in Dallas County and is buried at Atchley/DeLamar Cemetery.

Singleton was the great-grandson of Absalom Adams (ca 1750) and Elizabeth (Unknown) of Virginia. Absalom Adams moved his family to Jackson County,Georgia by the late 1700's. Known children were Mary Ann "Polly" Adams (married 1st a Thomas Jefferson, 2nd Thomas Jimmerson), Lucinda "Lucy" Adams, William Adams, Jesse Adams & John S. Adams.

One son, Jesse Adams (ca 1786 VA), married Casey Posey on 22 Jan 1807 in Jackson County. They moved on to Walton County, Georgia before settling in Coweta County for the remainder of their lives. Their children were Absalom Adams, Elizabeth Pinkney Adams, Nellie Adams, & Jackson Adams.

Absalom Adams was born 7 Nov 1807 probably in Jackson County, Georgia; married Sarah "Sallie" Ann Brooks about 1843. They are buried in unmarked graves in Dallas County. Besides Singleton Adams their children were William Jasper Adams, Pleasant Newton Adams, Lucinda Caroline Adams, Matilda Adams, Cicely Anice Adams, Sarah D. Adams, Elizabeth Josephine Adams, Jesse S. Adams & Emily Adams.

All of the men except the youngest, Jesse, served with the South in the Civil War. Absalom and Sarah Adams died in Dallas County on 23 Feb 1867 and 10 Dec 1860; respectively. William died in TN during the war. Pleasant, Lucinda, Sarah, Eliza and Jesse all moved to Texas after the war. It's not known exactly what happened to some of the others, but Singleton and sister Susan, (who married William Edward Dunn)remained in Dallas County raising their families.
