FORDYCE — Oliver Joel Rogers, 87, of Fordyce, died Sunday at his home.


He was born Sept. 1, 1918, at Croak, a son of the late Joel Collie Rogers and Fannie Hillman Rogers.


He served in the Army during World War II.


He was a retired land surveyor for Gulf Oil Co. He also retired from Fordyce Picture Frame.


He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Dianne Summerville; and four brothers, Otis Rogers, Orvis Rogers, Odel Rogers and Olen Rogers.


Survivors include his wife, Erma Lou Burford Rogers; three sons, Robert M. Summerville of Greenbrier, Tom Rogers of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Richard Rogers of Nevada; one daughter, Beverly Crain of Fordyce; three sisters, Vera Wells and Vivian Nash, both of Fordyce, and Victoria Moorehead of Poyen; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.


Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Kennedy Cemetery with Michael Summerville and Robert Summerville officiating. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home at Fordyce.
