MALVERN - J. A. "Zodie" Wright, 87, of Malvern, formerly of Gurdon, died Dec.4, 2007, at his home. He was born June 29, 1920, at Fordyce, the son of Elmer Lee and Minnie B. Brandon Wright. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, and worked as a butcher at Kroger before later opening Zodie's Grocery & Market in Malvern. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Malvern. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marine Howell Wright; three brothers; three sisters; and an infant son.


Survivors include: A son, Jimmy Wright of Malvern; a daughter, Gayle Dollar of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Mary Frances Ward of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.


The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Regency Chapel with Rev. Mike Fikes, the Hon. Chris Williams, and Dooley Fowler officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.


Pallbearers will be Jerry Langley, Buddy Ward, Jerry Wright, Johnny Ward, Gary Plyler, Larry Plyler, Ricky Ward, Bill Gates, and Bill Trevillion. Honorary pallbearers are W.R. Ward, Chris Williams, Carey Young, John Tanner and Larry Collins.


Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
