U.S. Veteran James D. Archer Sr., 83, of Little Rock, formerly of Fordyce, died Tuesday May 20, 2008 at the Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. Mr. Archer was born in Bradley County Arkansas on March 12, 1925 to the late Crum Lamar & Annie Julia Carter Archer. Mr. Archer honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War 2. He was a Marooned Mud Marine & received a purple heart. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, AR for over 49 years. He was an ordained Baptist Deacon for over 57 years, & a 32nd Degree Mason, where he served at the Blue Lodge #363 in Fordyce.


Mr. Archer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice “Jan” S. Archer of Little Rock, AR; a son, James D. Archer Jr. & wife LaWanna of Little Rock, AR; a daughter, Nancy A. Clark & husband Ron of Frisco, Tx; a brother, Dale S. Archer of Elwood, IL; five grandchildren, R. Andrew Clark of Texarkana, TX, Mathew B. Clark of Little Rock, AR, Michael Jeffery Clark & wife Jennifer of Eureka, MO, Amber Althoff & husband Steve of Maumelle, AR, Rachel Brewer & husband Cole of Maumelle, AR; six great grandchildren, Pierce, Hayden & Harrison Althoff, & Lauren, Zachary & Ellie Anna Clark. Mr. Archer was preceded in death by two brothers, Jewell & Carter Archer, and a sister, Bonnie Lusk.


Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday May 23, 2008 at the Prosperity Baptist Church in Ramsey. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery with the Dr. Rex M. Horne Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am Friday morning at the Prosperity Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
