Henry Lee “Chicken” Ankton, 60, of Dalark, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in Baptist Health Medical Center, Little Rock. He was born May 31, 1948, in the Dalark, the son of Roosevelt and Odessa Johnson Ankton.


He was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church, and was employed by Reynolds Metal Company and Acme Brick Company.


He graduated from Sparkman School. He was in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with the 1960 Device. He was also an M-14 sharpshooter.


He is survived by his wife, Minnie Hayes Ankto; two daughters, Sandra Ankton and Latasha Evans of Arkadelphia; his mother, Odessa Nelson of Dalark; two grandchildren, Michael Evans and Anyah Evans of Arkadelphia; a sister, Wanda Browning of Arkadelphia; four brothers: Vernon Ankton of Bencia, Calif.; Aaron Nelson of Arkadelphia; Jerry Ankton of Little Rock and Samuel Ankton of Ypsilanti, Mich.


Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, in Mt. Olive AME Church, Dalark Community, the Rev. Linda Butler officiating. Burial will be in Dalark Cemetery by Williams Funeral Home, Inc.


Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 3 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the funeral home, and from 6-7 p.m. in Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Baptist Church.


Pallbearers  will be Charles Middleton, Kenny Hamlin, Carl Johnson, Terry Wright, Claude Delamar and Larry Johnson.


Honorary pall bearers will be Freddie L. Owens, Joe Brownlee, Horace Carter, Sammy Johnson, Mack Hughes Jr., George Hayes, Ezekiel Leonard, Sr., Elmore Wiley, Sr., and Elmer Carter.
