William E. Cox, age 75 of Rockport, died Wednesday morning,  August 5, 2009 in the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs.  He was born on January 21, 1934 in Willow, Arkansas to the late Walter M. and Iona Jones Cox.   Reared and educated in Carthage, he was a veteran of the United States Navy and was retired from the Army National Guard.  For over 20 years, Mr. Cox was a lab assistant for the Union Carbide Corporation.  He was a member of Third Baptist Church and attended the W. J. Brumley Sunday School Class.  A doting father and grandfather, he was the husband of the former Opal Sue Williams, to whom he was married on February 27, 1955 in Rolla, Arkansas.  Cutting wood and gardening were two activities he enjoyed in his spare time.

 His survivors include his wife, Opal Cox of the home; two sons David and Randy Cox; a daughter, Melissa Cox Lambertus, all of Malvern; his brother, Charles Cox, of Malvern; four grandchildren, Cody Cox, Joshua Lambertus, Julie Lambertus and Katie Lambertus; and three great-grandchildren, Will Lambertus, Chloe Lambertus, and Talon Acord.

 He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jo Cox Lyons.

The funeral will be held on Friday morning, August 7, 2009, at ten o’clock in the chapel of J. A. Funk Funeral Home with Brother Thomy Green officiating.  Interment will follow in Cypress Cemetery at Willow, Arkansas with military honors.

Pallbearers will be: Bill Pierce, Jerry Skinner, Allen Leible, Jimmy Cessor, Michael Rice, and Hamp Williamson.

Honorary pallbearers will be: the W. J. Brumley Sunday School Class of Third Baptist Church.

Visitation will be on Thursday afternoon from five until seven o’clock at the funeral home.
