Billy G. Gober, age 79, of Fordyce, died Friday, September 18, 2009 at St. John’s Place in Fordyce. He was born April 3, 1930 in Monticello, AR.

He served in the Korean War, and following discharge moved to Fordyce where he worked for the City of Fordyce as a police officer, chief of police, and as city street superintendent. He was on the Fordyce City Council for many years, served as a Justice of the Peace for Dallas County for 20 years. He was a 50 year Mason, and a member of Temple Baptist Church. He was very proud of his military service both in active duty in the Korean War and as a National Guardsman for over 35 years, and of his many years of political service to Fordyce and Dallas County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ella Mae Burton Gober; and three brothers, Earnest, Olen and Pete Gober. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Offutt Gober of Fordyce; children, Tracy Pefferkorn (Fred) of Fordyce, Gene Carol Ables of Fordyce, Ronnie Gober (Angela) of Hopeville; four grandchildren, Jayce Ables of Arkadelphia, Casey Gober of Hopeville, Jordan Ables of Fordyce, Caleb Gober of Hopeville; great-grandchild, Jayden Wilson; two sisters, Bernice Hobbs of Dermott and Marie Bynum of Hot Springs.

Visitation will be 6pm until 8pm Sunday at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Temple Baptist Church in Fordyce with Rev. Mike McEuen officiating. Burial at Oakland Cemetery. To sign the online register visit www.bentonfuneralhome.com
