George Glendee Overton, 78, of Terrell, Texas, formerly of Tulip, Arkansas passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 in a local hospital. He was born in Tulip, Arkansas, on March 4, 1931 to William Thomas Overton and Mary Ellen Lawrence Overton. He was a retired machinist and was formerly employed by Oil Well Supply, a division of US Steel. He is survived by a daughter Debbie McKee and her husband Dannie of Sherman, Texas; two brothers: Preston Haywood “Hayde” Overton and his wife Syblene of Camden, Ark. Curtis Overton and his wife Hazel of Fordyce, Ark.; one sister: Lilla Mae Harrison and her husband Dale of Benton, Ark.; two sisters-in-law: Freda Overton of Malvern, Ark. Billie Overton of Malvern, Ark.; two grandchildren Danica Lewellyn and her husband Aaron Daley McKee and wife Kasey; three great-grandchildren Brennan Lewellyn, Haley Lewellyn, Makenna Lewellyn; several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Overton, his parents, four brothers Ray Overton, Roy Overton, Dewitt “Dude” Overton, Cecil Overton, three sisters Ione Leath, Opal Overton, and Gertrude Huffman. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 in Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Doggett officiating. Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at the funeral home. The interment and graveside service will be 1p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 in Grove Hill Cemetery, Dallas, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home of Malvern, Arkansas.
