Smith, Mary Sue ( Jones) White

Mary Sue Jones White Smith, 84, of Jacinto, Arkansas died, peacefully surrounded by her son Gregory and wife Sue, Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the afternoon at her son’s home of Vilonia, Arkansas.

She was born August 3, 1925. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Jacinto, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Owen (Boe) Jones and Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Nutt Jones Hollis. Her father Boe Jones was killed in a logging accident in 1930 at the age of 30 when Mary Sue was a young girl in Dallas County. Later her mother, Mamie, married C.C. Hollis of Jacinto, also a widower for several years. He also preceded Mary Sue in death at age 91 in 1972. Her mother died in April 1991 at age 92. Also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James White, father of her children, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky. Her second husband, L.C. Smith, who was from Jacinto, died in 1991 at the age of 88. Also preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Jones Mann, infant brother, Joyce Calvin Hollis, step sisters, Grace Hollis McAlister, Mabel Hollis Williams and Ozella Hollis Cleaver; two step brothers, Bill Hollis and Truman Bailey Hollis; two nephews, Burton Owen Mann, Rev. Johnny Mann; two nieces, Patricia Mann Culpepper, Mary Charlene Hollis McNichol and great-granddaughter, Elexia Ann White Hamilton.

Survivors are daughters, Jessifer Diane White Moseley (Terrell) of Sherwood, Arkansas, Connie Jones White Robinson (Doug) of Jacinto, Arkansas; sons, Gregory James White (Sue) of Vilonia, Arkansas, David Lee White (Theresa) of Jacinto, Arkansas. Also surviving are brother, Henry Owen Jones, Jr. (Sue) of Fordyce; sister, Jimmie Lee Jones Hollis of Fordyce; granddaughters, Tonya Moseley Pugh (Tim) of Sherwood, Arkansas, Brandy Lane Robinson of Jacinto, Arkansas, Britni Ann White of Vilonia, Arkansas, Nicole Pruitt of Jacinto, Arkansas, Jessica Lane White of Jacinto, Arkansas; grandsons, Nathan James White (Rachel) of Conway, Arkansas, Joshua Kenneth White of Vilonia, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Heather and Bailey Pugh of Sherwood, Arkansas, Jordan Pruitt of Amarillo, TX, Noah James Licon of Vilonia, Arkansas, Carly Nicole White of Conway, Arkansas and many nieces and nephews in Kentucky, Texas and Louisiana.

Finally, Mary Sue traded her cross for a crown after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and happily joined her family. Oh, what a reunion. Momma wait for me.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 5, 2009 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm Saturday at Benton Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Martin and Rev. Boe Hollis officiating. Burial at Benton Cemetery in Jacinto, Arkansas. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
