Joseph Anderson (Joe A.) Pennington, 73, of Fordyce died Monday May 13, 2013 at the Dallas County Medical Center. Born December 15, 1939 at Ashdown, he was a son of the late Jay Harvey Pennington and Juanita Wheeler Files. Mr. Pennington was the retired Police Chief for the city of Fordyce and a former Dallas County Sheriff. He gave a lifetime of service in law enforcement. He was also the previous owner of several businesses, including feed stores and S and S Steel Scrap and Hauling. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Pennington of Fordyce; a son Joe Allen Pennington of Fordyce; two daughters, Sissy Clayton Kennedy of Fordyce, Pam Castleberry and husband Tony of Fordyce; step-son, Jimma Hicks and wife Tammy and daughter, Dawn of Atlanta, TX; step-daughter, Angela Hicks of Herndon, VA; two brothers, Mike Pennington and wife Sheila of Holly Springs; Ricky Pennington and wife Tammy of Bearden; sister-in-law, Ginger Echols Pennington of Doddridge, AR; three grandchildren, Brady Brandon and wife Kristen of Little Rock, Joey Clayton and wife Jessica of Fordyce, Brent Brandon and wife Nikki of Fordyce; three great-grandchildren, Caden, Lucy, and Brentlee; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, D.J. Kennedy; two brothers, Harvey Pennington, Jr. and Gary Pennington. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Wheeler Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wheeler Cemetery or Prosperity Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
