JOHN W. SHAW, 79, RETIRED CITY EMPLOYEE, DIES

John William Shaw, 1222 Front St., a lifelong resident of Faulkner County, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital from a kidney ailment. He was 79.

Mr. Shaw was born in the Saltillo community, March 2, 1876, a son of Newt W. and Nannie Shaw. He married the former Carrie Mae Harrison, and they had eight children, five daughers and three sons. He was a Baptist.

Mr. Shaw had been ill for ten months.

He leaves his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Raymond Fiddler and Mrs. Earl Packs of Conway, Mrs. F.B. Osborn of North Little Rock, Mrs. George Thornton of Phoenix City, Alabama, and Mrs. V.A. York, Indio, Calif.; three sons, T.A. Shaw, Jack W. Shaw, and N.A. Shaw, all of Conway; a sister, Mrs. Eva Carroll of Liberty; a brother, J.T. Shaw of North Little Rock; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. O.M. Stallings officiating. Burial will be at Old Liberty Cemetery by Doolin's Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will include Glover Hensley, Clarence Martin, Clifton Eaton, Bill Beene, Warren Voyles, and Edsel Voyles.

Honorary: Dr. Cecil A. Dickerson, Wilbourn Carter, Joe Castleberry, Bute Graddy, Boss Milam, Otis Brannon, Harry Vinson, and W.J. Flowers.
