DICK HILL CEMETERY

Richard Hill Cemetery

Hi Don ,   The Library of Congress online isn't an easy site to locate anything .  I had to try multiple searches to locate that particular map and if memory serves me right I couldn't save a particular page but I'll try to locate it again and give you directions to get to it .   The Dick Cemetary is actually the Dick Hill Cemetary .  On the Cass-Oark Road is a state campground named Redding Campground I believe .  Once you turn off the Cass-Oark road at the campground's entrance immediately look to your left and you'll see a footpath going into the woods .  This leads to the cemetary approximately 1000 feet into the dense overgrowth .  The cemetary is not visible until you are practically in it .  On a sidenote , one  particular headstone from the 1880's of an 8 year old girl tells an intrigueing story of how she was kidnapped and subsequently murdered because the kidnappers thought her father had a goldmine and he didn't , thusly leading to her death .

Thank you Karl. Can I put this up with all the info you know about the towns?   Directions to find or L&L would be helpful...also if you can direct me to find that map, I'll put it up too,   I haven't been able timewise and informationwise to do as much work on the towns file as I would like to.   I have been all over the county, but don't recall driving through those two towns.   Thanks......this is fun.   Don Kelly from Madison County

Greetings ,   I know of two towns that aren't mentioned at the website .  I'm a philatelist , stamp collector , and Civil War history buff .  In my possession is a book that lists every C.S.A. post office by state and county .  The Confederacy had two post offices in Franklin County in Constitution and Dick .  I was able to find Constitution on an 1854 map at the Library of Congress website .  It was approximately 5 miles northwest of present day Ozark .  The town of Dick was somewhat more of a challenge to locate .  The only reference point I could find is the Dick Cemetary adjacent to the Mulberry River located off the Cass - Oark Road about 2 miles east of Cass .

Thank you Janice.
I have to post material in the format I receive it.
Some information, probably lots, is bad, bad transcriptions, etc.
But I also add notes of corrections to incorrect transcriptions.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I have copied your message to the cemeteries file and will make the
corrections on my next day off.
Thank you again.
Don from Madison County, AR

Subject: Dick Cemetery in Franklin County Ark

NOTES:

I was looking thru us genweb and went to the cemetery's in Franklin Co and
noticed you had listed a Dick Cemetery next to the camp ground up by Cass, in the Ozarks.

This is my ggreat Uncles Cemetery.

The cemetery is called Richard Hill Cemetery and is listed in many books about cemeteries in Arkansas.  There is even a list of who is  buried there.  I just thought you would like to know this information, so you can correct it on the web site.

The person who used to take care of the cemetey has passed away so the Cemetery may be covered with trees and  weeds.

The last time I was there there were several trees that had fallen on the fence and bent it up prety bad.
 Thank You
 Janice
