ABSTRACTS OF RECORDS OF ENON PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH

This record is presented exactly as originally spelled, warts and all:

Founded 4 April 1841 on Big Mulberry Creek, Franklin Co., Arkansas

Preface July 1964

There are three previous books in existence, which contain official records of Enon Primitive Church. These are presently in the custody of Sister Katherine Barham Williams, Church Clerk.

To be of value a church record might give much interesting and pertinent information concerning the members and the activities of the church. At least there should be an accurate listing of membership, a record of constitution, articles of faith, rules of decorum, and records of business which may be useful reference to enlighten and guide the church. Enon Church was constituted in 1841 and was then located at Cass, AR. It moved to Grassy Flat School House in 1885, then moved to Sulphur Springs School House in 1891. Then to the present location, 6 1/2 miles north of Ozark, AR on Highway 23, 1935. The new church house was built in 1952.

The records reveal that Elder George Horner served as Moderator in the earliest conferences held by Enon Church. Other Elders service the church included: Elders Jesse E. Casey, Samuel Wheat, I.W.D. Taylor, E. Paty, R. K. Pounds, George Barham, L.W. Wagoner, T. Casey, T.S. Pounds, J. M. Kimberling, and John Smith.

Previous records show the constitution of Enon Church as follows:

April 4th, 1841 --- We a part of the members of Big Mulberry Church being stricken off for the purpose of forming a new church, as we believe it to be our duty to God, to come together in covenant bonds with each other and to keep house for the Lord, we therefore have called our beloved Brethren as a Presbytery, to go forward with the work. To wit: Elders Joe Hobbs, Eli Patty, George Horner who came ono the day above written, and after we being examined ono the following abstract of principles and found orthodox, was constituted into a Gospel Church at Brother E. Marsh's on Big Mulberry Creek in Franklin County, Arkansas.
