Franklin County 2002 Queries

NOTE: Last query received appears on top. Thanks for contributing.

Your Franklin County, Arkansas Host is: Don Kelly

Dear Don, I don't think that you've got a place for this query on the Franklin Co. website.

I am trying to locate families of these people in pictures with some of my Anderson and Donald family pictures I am trying to locate anyone who knows something about: Brother August Woods and his wife, Brother Clyde Elwood and his wife, Brother and sister Chase, Uncle Bill and Aunt Margie Baker.  I think that they might be members of Enon Baptist Church since they are labeled "Brother" and "Sister".  The pictures are browntone and appear to have been taken in the early 1900's,.  Have a reference to Allie Childers and Lacy Carr from the same time period. MORE in next post:

Don I did not realize who you were at first. I have been trying for a week to
post a query to board but it kept coming back user unknown.

Here is some of my family history in Franklin county. We just found it we have been looking
for so long we found my gggrand parents John and Francis Pettyjohn on 1870
census.

The last time we had him on census was 1860 Collin County TX on 1870.
With them was their children Ann, William, Thomas, Josephine, George and Mary.
Another daughter Sara must have died .

On 1880 census we found my ggrand parents William Pettyjohn, Nancy a Phillips/Pettyjohn and also we found Francis Pettyjohn with her second marriage to a Thomas McGuir or McGehe can not really tell but George and Mary are still at home.

We are assuming John died in Franklin County also found Ann Pettyjohn married to a William wines on 1880 census in Franklin County.

We also think William Pettyjohn died in Franklin County. Nancy and Will had two children, Mary Belle and my grand father John Henry Pettyjohn.

Nancy remarried a Benjamin Stuckey then a Davied. She died McCurtain County, OK we think 1816 and sure would like to know who her parents were.

I will get back to you on Bohanon side later ha thanks Jim Bohanon

I am looking for any info on my great grandfather, James Slaughter Miller b. Aug.3,1870 in KY. died.Feb.28, 1937 in Cass, AR (Franklin Co.)  He married Martha Ann Kelley. b. Oct.9,1877 in Franklin Co.,AR. They had 6 children: Alfred, Orville, Otis, Daisy, Beulah and Raymond.  Any info on their parents or the children would really be appreciated.  Who were her parents?  Where was he from in KY?  Thanks!

My ggg-grandfather, William, was (questionable DAR records) in the
Virginia Line during the Rev. War.  My gg-grandfather (Jones Rogers)
was born in 1798 in NC.  The family moved to TN about 1802 and lived
in Hickman/Humphreys County (always on Tumbling Creek).  My

to Johnson Co., AR.  They had fairly large land holdings in Franklin
Co., most on or near Hurricane Creek.  Some were killed and all lost
nearly everything during the war (Hurricane Creek was a nasty
battleground according to my g-aunt).

I have not been able to find records of James Berry Rogers after the
war, although his death date is given as 1884.  I have no information
on Green or Green Berry.  There is terrible confusion on Pleasant
(some records show a daughter being accepted by the Cherokee Tribe).

William K. hit it rich in California and bought land and ran a store
and post office at Sub Rosa, AR.  He lost everything during the war
James B. probably went to CA, but some records indicate that he guided
wagon trains.

My father and uncle went to high school in Charleston, but the home
was near Branch.

I would like to hear about any information you might have.

Hi Don -  I would like to post the surname ROWE   to seek contact - I did
try to reach Richard Travis but it is an invalid email address.  My

I tried to fathom the instructions for posting just the  Surname -
didn't find the "right"  technique - hope you will post the  surname for me

Ken, if you are still out there, I ran across the 1999 Franklin Co, AR item about subject Bible and O'Kane data:
I'm not a descendant, but have a historical interest in Col. Walter Scott O'Kane, and have been trying to determine his death date and burial site.  By any chance has that info surfaced since the query was posted? His wife Ada and the children Alexenia and Walter Jr are buried in Titsworth Cemetery near Roseville, Logan Co. but no listing for Walter Sr there or in Franklin Co cemeteries.  He was still living in Altus 1900 census.

I have a missing link to my family tree that I believe is in Arkansas.  I have not been able to find a connection.  My Grgr-grandfather left Tennessee in the 1870's leaving 3 children behind.  He had a wife and one child with him (second wife).  His name was Ezra Robert Marvin hers Martha J. Turnbow Marvin.  I believe they were in the Ozark area.  If you could put me in touch with or if you know any Marvin's in that area, I would appreciate it.  ebates@waverly.net  He also had a brother in Arkansas and I have found his family.  Thank you.  Elaine Bates

Subject: Re: Russell Family Genealogy of Franklin County Arkansas

 Dear Don,

I'm still not sure what you need.  Sally has all the information that I have
but she said that she did not feel well enough to deal with it at this time.
She did not ever say just what it was she wanted me to send.  All I got was,
"Are you going to help me out and send Don this information?"  She never said
WHAT information!  My husband's family is Turner, but none of them ever lived
in our part of Arkansas, so I'm sure that what Sally had in mind was the
Russell line.  I don't have any McKinney stuff (that was Sally's mother's
family), however, I do have an "in progress" genealogy of the Russell's and
Ray Families.  I have the Russell's from Robert Russell, the immigrant, who
came from Ireland to the US in 1745 up to my generation at the present time.
We have a partial list of the Ray genealogy from Gen. James Ray (ca 1750) to
now.  My grandfather was Henry Turner Russell (the Turner-no relation to my
husband's Turner that we know of) and my grandmother was Minnie Jane Ray
Russell of Franklin County.  My father was Claude Lane Russell and my mother
was Bertha Jackson Russell of Franklin County.  Is there anything in this
that gives you a clue as to what Sally wanted me to send to you?
I'm sorry to be such a pest, but she seemed quite distressed that I had not
sent you whatever it was that she wanted sent.  Confusing, isn't it?
 Thanks,
 Shirley

How wonderful to land on the website for Franklin County.  I was born and

and pictures and see what I can locate for you.

Please respond to my home email (this is work)

Hi Don,
Haven't been in touch for a while, but came across this URL which lists the men from Franklin County in the State Militia in the early 1860's and thought you might want to list it.  I found my GGrandfather Noah Barclift and recognized several of the other names of men in the Ozark area. Paul

Saw the info on the Fr. Co page this morning....good work. A couple of questions..........
I wonder if the letters should be listed seperate....with the two to Sarah Brown from Jane Lawson listed

under the Brown/Goodwin family name and the one with David G. Brown listed under the

Berkley/Brown  name.  The Brown/Goodwin line is only related to the Berkley/Brown  line through the

marriage of George E. Berkley(son of Sarah Brown Berkley sister to your David G. Brown)

to Luticia J. Brown(day of Sarah E. Goodwin Brown of the Jane Lawson letters from Tn.  The

Brown/Goodwin line is from Bradley Co, TN prior to Franklin Co and the Berkley/Bown line is from

Missouri prior to.  Didn't join up until long after arriving in Franklin Co.  Also, the picture of Sarah Berkley and

all her children probably should be listed as Berkley pics or Berkley/Brown.  I just thought that might clear

up some confusion down the road for someone.  Too many Browns!

In the tombstone project....do you want pictures of tombstones from Franklin Co?  I couldn't decide what it

was all about.  It said it had moved but when I followed the links I didn't know what I had found.  When I

clicked on the Berkley Cemetary link I got the same thing.  I think I just don't understand the page.

I could not get the link to the Brown photos to open...it said "not found".

By the way...on the letters....you have part of one in there twice.......and as much as I love my husband....he did not type those.....he doesn't even like genealogy.....but he tolerates it!

Mr. Johnson,

I think you might be a link to information that I need.

My great grandfather, Joseph F. Hooper, b. 1826 (IL) was listed on the 1860, and 1870 census for Franklin County.  He had a wife and children.  His wife died sometime before 1875, and it appears that at least two young children did also.  And, from the children in the 1860 census, the 3 year old daughter, M.A., seems to be gone.

I know that one of his daughters, Sidney Salina, married Charles Fletcher Barnhill, Aug. 1, 1869, and it appears that a Mary Hooper, married Thomas Burkes, 1870, is also his daughter.  I have been told that he is the only Hooper family in Franklin County, during those census times.

Can you find death, and marriage information for Franklin County?  By 1880, Joseph F. Hooper was in Logan County, married to my great grandmother.  From what I understand, they most likely did not move, the county line changed.

In 1850, Joseph was in Scott County, 23, and living alone.  1860, he had a wife and children in Franklin County.  He was in the Civil War, H-1 Ark Infantry, Union.  1870, he is in Franklin County, with same wife, and more children.  His daughter, Sidney Salina gave birth to Henry Barnhill, 1870, and is believed to have died shortly after.

I am sorry, I know I have rambled.  I hope you can help me find some information.  I do not have time to "cull" as I work very full time.

Dori Hooper
