I have been searching for my  husband's paternal great-grandfather, Marvin
B Davis, born about 1885 in or  around Franklin County, Arkansas.

About 1917, Marvin was murdered outside a  mine in Ozark as he showed up for his
first day of work there. Apparently there  was another man in the running for
that same position and when Marvin showed up  for work his competitor shot and
killed him.

Marvin's younger brother, name and  age unknown, avenged his
brother's death by killing the man who took his  brother's life and soon
thereafter left Franklin County eventually settling in  Sebastian County.

If I could find the name of the brother I might be able to  find their parents and
other siblings, if any. Marvin and his brother were half  cherokee. At some
point in time the family took the name of Davis. We  don't know their Indian
name.  Marvin's wife's family also took the  name of Davis. Mary C Davis
was half choctaw.

My father-in-law was told  that Marvin's avenging brother was
eventually an owner of  the Davis and Sons Wholesale Grocery Company in Fort Smith.
The only other bit of information my father-in-law could tell  me was that
Marvin was deeded eighty acres just outside of Ozark with documented  court
records to substantiate ownership. That property remained in the family  for
several decades after Marvin's death. I found Marvin, Mary and their  two
eldest children, Paul Albert and Lillie on the 1910 Mountain, Franklin
County, AR census.

I found a couple online, Marvin and Mary  Davis, buried in the
Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin County. But this Mary  died in 1963 so it doesn't
match with my great-grandmother-in-law who was  suppose to have died in a house
fire in Franklin County about 1936. It has  crossed my mind that the numbers could have
possibly  been transcribed incorrectly. If so, this might be my husband's paternal  great-grandparents.

Surnames: DAY and CAGLE
My great grandparents
George William DAY and Nancy Jane CAGLE. I am looking for when or where George came from. He married Nancy J Cagle (daughter of Green L Cagle) on Dec 31, 1872. I have found Nancy in 1850,1860,1870 Franklin County, Arkansas census But I don't find George until 1880 in prison at Big Rock (now Little Rock) Arkansas and Nancy with four children in Franklin County, Mulberry, Arkansas. thanks
