I have information that my great-great-grandfather died in Bull City, Fulton County, Arkansas.  I’ve looked at the old maps and I cannot find anything with Bull City on it.  I would like to find out if there was ever a Bull City in Fulton County.  According to the 1850 census he was living in Fulton County with his son and my grandfather.  His name was James Adams Jr. and his son was John Quincy Adams and wife Eliza.  I did find Bull Shoals in Baxter County which may have been in Fulton County before Baxter was formed.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking some information on some of my ancestors. The names are Jeremiah Bassett and his wife Rachel. Jeremiah purchased land in Fulton county in 1859 and 1860, but we can't seem to find any record of them after that date. I did find a record for W.A. Bassett (who I am pretty sure is their son) listed as fighting for the 14th Arkansas Confederate Infantry. I am kind of wondering if they might have gotten killed or at least lost their farm during the war since they had Southern sympathies. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I am trying to find information on my great-grandmother...and her parents. It is almost like they never existed. My great-grandmother was Mattie Blackburn born 1/16/1869. I think her father was James Blackburn...her mother I haven't a clue. She married Jesse Riley Martin 10/29/1885. Mattie and Jessie had a son William or Walter born 11/30/1886. A daughter Rose Etta born 1/22/1890. After giving birth to my grandmother on the 22nd she (Mattie) died on 1/26/1890. Now that I have written a novel, is there any census records around 1870 or so that might indicate a family Blackburn with these offspring names? Cemetery records maybe Whitley Love? Anything would be helpful.

I am the great grandson of James B. and Conzada Campbell Sloan.  They were married in November 1887 in Fulton County, Arkansas.  James was born in Myatt Township and lived near Pilot Hill for several years.  Conzada “Zadie” Campbell is supposed to have been either full blood or ½ native American.  I have been able to take the Sloan ancestry back several generations from James, but Conzada’s family is a mystery that I have been working on for several years.  I would appreciate any information on these two people.

I have reason to believe that my great grandfather George S Cantrell lived in Fulton County in 1880/1890 and migrated to Izard County. He and his family are in the 1900 Census for Izard County. He was a confederate soldier during the civil war and was born in July 1837 in TN. His wife's name was Catherine. I found a George S Cantrell in the marriage records for AR marrying Jennie Haughn in Fulton Co on Apr 12, 1896. This could be a son or a nephew of the one I am looking for. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on the Cantrell family.

I am searching for information about Thomas and Martha J. CHAPMAN listed on the Myatt, Fulton Co. Arkansas 1900 Federal Census Page 196B dwelling 176. Thomas CHAPMAN is listed as the Postmaster and that he owned his own home.  He was 63 (br. may1837 ILL.) his parents are listed as from Tenn.  His wife Martha J. (no maiden name) CHAPMAN is listed as 41 (br. 1858 MO.) and her father from Ky and mother from Tenn.  It indicates that they were married for 18 years and she had one child, but the child is not listed on the census here.  I believe that this is the same Thomas Chapman who lived in Johnson County in 1880 with his wife Lousette and children.  He went to West Virginia at one point and collected his pension from civil war, then returned to Fulton Co.  He was in Carroll abt 1870 and Newton Co. abt 1860 with his father Andrew CHAPMAN.  His son William Franklin Chapman married Sarah Jane MCENTIRE in late 1890's in Marion County, Ark and lived in Pyatt.  Does anyone know this group?  The maiden name of Martha?  The child?  What happened to them?  He was in Carroll abt 1870 and newton Co. abt 1860 with his father Andrew. Family names searching:  CHAPMAN, BALDWIN, HINES(HYNES), REED, BARKER.

Looking for someone to look up an obituary notice in your local newspaper for Ida Joanna Chapman whom we believe died there in 1979. I do not know the exact date since it is not on her tombstone. She lived somewhere in the Salem area with her daughter Mrs. W.C.(Marie) Meeks. Her body was taken to Lauderdale Co TN for burial. The family only lived there a few years and moved back to Lauderdale CO TN after Ida's death. We would be grateful for any help in finding this obituary and hoping someone in the area can help.

Clark, Morris, Southworth

Seeking information on family CLARK poss. in Fulton Co cir 1850-1855. Family record says Mary Elizabeth CLARK was b. 10 Mar 1853 at Camp to Moses C. and Mary A. (unk) Clark. This family subsequently moved to Evening Shade (Sharp Co) area. However, a son was named James MORRIS Clark, raising possibility that there may be a link to the Morris family of Fulton county. Mary Elizabeth Clark m. Winfield Scott SOUTHWORTH in 1869.  Southworth was a Methodist minister who subsequently had churches in Fulton county.  However, family records also suggest that other members of the Southworth family lived in Fulton county.  Have extensive records of this family.

Looking for any information on the COZEAN family.  My George Washington COZEAN asked WA D C for land or pension in 1854, and part of the application stated that he was a resident of Fulton County, Arkansas.  I previously found him on the 1850 Lawrence Co. AR census in Lebanon Twp.  He lived on the Strawberry River which later became part of Sharp Co.  He was paying taxes in Lawrence Co. in 1835/6, and served about 6 mo. in a volunteers group of Mounted Guns, 1836-7.  He married in St. Francois Co. Mo in Jan 1838 and lived in Missouri until about 1848-9, when he moved back to Lawrence Co. AR.  So he was in AR then until he died sometime before Oct. 1854, the date of his widow's remarriage, to John Underwood.  I find the name spelled COZEAN, CAZINE, COZZENNE, KISZENE.  I have information on his wife and the children, but I need information on him before 1835, and on his parents, and birthplace.  Virginia Cozean Holter

Cozean, White

George Washington COZEAN.  This man was on the Lawrence County 1850 census, Lebanon Twp.  That is the only time I ever found him on a census.  Records prove that he died in 1854.  He had sent into WA DC for bounty for service of 1836-7, and those papers say he is a resident of Fulton Co. (after the census, and before his death, early 1850's).  Denied.  The property he bought in 1851 was on the Strawberry.  This was later Sharp Co.  His wife was Eliza J. WHITE.  I have records of the children and also after his death, for the guardianship of them by Eliza's father Elias White of Madison Co. MO.  I cannot find out anything about him or of his relatives before 1836, when he was on the tax records of Lawrence Co. AR.  I cannot find a cemetery where he is buried.  I cannot find church records.  The military records spell the name COZIAN also.  Any information about him or his blood relatives is most welcome.  Family tradition says he came from Canada.  When?  From where?  Who were his parents?  Why did the application to WA DC say he was a resident of Fulton Co?  I do not think he is of the family from Independence Co. named CROZINE/CORZINE who came from NC; I worked on that a long time.

James Wesley, 44 and wife, Louisa, 44 and nine children are listed in the 1870 Census.  Haven't been able to get to a later census to determine if this is the last residence for James and Louisa or is this where they lived to the end of their lives?  The 1870 Census indicates that they lived in Wyatt Township and Pilot Hill was the Post Office.  Where is this located?

My great-great-grandparents are supposed to be buried at Moten Church Cemetery at Mammoth Springs, Ar. My Mom got an old newspaper clipping of their death and burial and that cemetery was in the clipping (no date). Their names were Sallie Ellis (which the clipping was about her death and she was 102 yrs. old when she died), she was buried by her husband (Uncle) Wince Ellis. They settled at Mammoth Springs, native from North Carolina which was then an Indian camping ground known as (Head of the River) in 1852. She lived on the farm for 41 years which was 4 miles south of Mammoth Springs. (Uncle)Tom Wooldridge conducted the service whom was acquainted with the deceased more than a half a century. She was buried at Moten Church graveyard. They had a daughter who married a Rally Whiteside but my mom isn't sure of her grandmother first name but does know her grandfather was Rally Whiteside; they have a daughter named Rose Whiteside which was my mom's (mother), my grandmother, and she married Henry Jefferson Rush which was my mom's (father) my grandfather. There was also two other Rally Whiteside daughters, Icie Whiteside, Dora Whiteside and a son Tommy Whiteside. Please e-mail me if anyone finds the gravesites of Sallie & Wince Ellis, or if anyone has any information on them. Can anyone tell me if there are any OLD newspapers, etc., in existence that I could find the dates of death for Sallie and/or Wince Ellis?

I have found through Arkansas Land Records that my great-grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Ellis, owned 160 acres listed on June 6, 1905, in Fulton Co. He also had 160 acres listed in Hot Spring Co., on July 20, 1888. Seems like most people listed had 40, 80, 120, 160 acres-is this government land bounty from military service? Anyway, I am looking for anyone else who is searching this Ellis line. My great-grandmother was Susan J. Page from Grant Co. They were married Dec. 19, 1880, in Hot spring Co. If anyone in Fulton Co. knows of these Ellis's, please e=mail me.

Estes, Eddings

I have been trying to trace my family roots, on my dad's side, for a number of years, mostly without any luck. I understand he was born in Salem, AR, in the year 1906, Aug. 6.  At least that is one of the dates I have. I also understand he was part Indian, from what tribe, I do not know.  I do not have any information on my grandparents, except their names - David Estes and Irene Eddings.  I was told my grandmother was the full-blooded Indian in the family. Is there a way you can let me know what tribe was centered around Salem from 1900 - 1910?

I am uncertain if Jacob Bishop Gilbert was in Fulton County, but some of the family lived in neighboring county Clay. Pocahontas is known to us. As is Maynard. Jacob Bishop Gilbert (as far as we know) was born Nov 1849 and died in 1931 (supposedly in Pittman). I have posted a request with someone near Pittman in hopes of finding a death record. As for family names: His first wife we think was Mary Cooper. His second wife's name was Rutherford (?). My line came from his son, Herschel Bishop Gilbert, born I believe in 1891. I have family from Mammoth spring and have been looking for a very long time trying to find my grandfathers mothers name and have had no luck. Her name is Estella Francis Godwin. Her maiden name was Hill. She married Agrippia Wesley Godwin. They had two children, Leman Agrippia and Lloyd. She Died when my grandfather was two yrs old. His aunt and uncle raised him and assumed that his birth day was around November 5th 1917. I think his mother was 20 or 21 when she died. They don't know for sure but we think she died of pneumonia. I have been told the court house that held the records of his birth burned down. I was told she was buried just out side Mammoth spring in a small town. If there is anyway you can give me information on this I would be very grateful.

I am seeking any information relating to my great great grandfather, George R. Gullett who appears with his family on the 1880 Census for Pleasant Ridge Township, Fulton County, Ark. One of his sons is my grandfather, John Wesley Gullett (1868) who appears on that census. My father, Ray Gulllett was born in Salem, Ark. Fulton County. Any land, probate, cemetery, or newspaper records that anyone has run across would be immensely appreciated. George R. Gullett served in the Civil War in the 23rd Arkansas, Company C.

In the Burks Chapel Cemetery, there are 2 listings for the surname HACKWORTH. This interests me greatly because my ggfather was born in Arkansas & it is a large area to research without any known county!!! Do you have any volunteers that might be able to check census or vital records for the time frame 1870-1880? Although, the dates of the persons listed in the cemetery indicate that they would not be parents of Jorell, since there is one family listed it is at least a starting point. My ggfather’s name is Jorell Richard HACKWORTH (b. 14 Nov 1869, Arkansas). Parents are unk, only pprox. that I have a name for is “Molly” & I do not know if she is older or younger. Jorell was married & starting a family in Oklahoma in 1886. ANY sighting of a HACKWORTH surname would be a tremendous boost to my effort of family history & I would gladly take up the chase from there. Additional info for Jorell is that throughout his life he was also listed & referred to as “Joe” or “Joseph”.

Fed land bureau records indicate 4 land patents for Fulton Co., Arkansas area:
HACKWORTH, James – 11/13/1895
HACKWORTH, James – 11/13/1895
HACKWORTH, Jesse – 08/12/1901
HACKWORTH, William C. – 05/01/1860

I have hit a brick walls on my Hall lines, so I thought I would pose a question that may provide a break through and at least give us something to chuckle about. Do any of you have and Hall ancestors that were hung as horse thieves in England? At one point in time my grandfather Elmon Hall had the ancestry compiled on his family. The story passed down to me was that his wife’s line was related to Stephen “Grover” Cleveland (the late president) and John Hancock (of Declaration of Independence fame), but his most notable ancestors on the Hall line were horse thieves that were hung in England. One evening as the family was perusing the information, family members began teasing him about the contrast in his family background and his wife’s. He apparently did not have too good a sense of humor about the teasing and gathered all the papers and threw them into the fireplace, where they quickly were turned to ashes. Needless to say, no one in the family ever mentioned it to him again, but the story has been passed down ever since. In my research, I did find a direct connection to Cleveland and a connection by marriage to John Hancock, so I believe the story is more fact than fiction, especially given the very formal nature of this grandfather. I have traced this Hall line back to Dr. John A. HALL who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio about 1825, became a medial doctor in Tennessee, married Hanna Elizabeth BEMIS(S) in Tippecanoe, Indiana in 1848, moving to Danville, Illinois in about 1875 where he remained till his death in 1896. I have yet to find any further information on him regarding his parents or possible siblings, though I am following up on a Lawrence Hall naturalized in Tippecanoe, Indiana about the time of John’s marriage to Hanna, as the given name of Lawrence has been used several times in successive generations. I do know that John’s father was the original immigrant from England. My husband is also descended from a Hall line which we have traced back to a Will or William Hall in Arkansas. We know he died sometime after about 1970, but haven’t located his exact location or birth or death dates as yet. This William had at least one son named Eulis Hall born Sept 3, 1909, and died Nov, 1981 in Salem, Arkansas. Eulis’s wife was Velma Lane born Oct. 14, 1910 and died May 29, 1997 in Franklin, Arkansas. Please contact me if anyone has any possible connections to either of these Hall lines, or if you have any rumors of ancestors that were hung as horse thieves in England. Looking forward to some interesting replies on this post! LOL

During a recent fact-finding foray I visited the Flora Cemetery in Viola, Arkansas. Located between Jane MEWHINNEY, 1817 – 1883 and Amos HANNAH, 1817-1892, are two small headstones, simply marked HANNAH. I would like to find out who these graves belong to. Amos HANNAH was my gggrandfather and I’m curious if one of these HANNAH graves belongs to an infant boy born to Amos and Cynthia. Thank you for any info you can supply. It will be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for any information regarding my grandparents and/or great-grandparents. Curtis Doshier and Pearl Haynes, and Sarah Doshier and John Haynes. Curtis and Pearl had their first child in 1909, I suspect they were married within a year. I can not be sure about Sarah and John. Sarah was born 1852, but I suspect she did not get married til after 1890; both hopefully in Marion county. John and Pearl were know to have family in Yellville around 1950’s, that had businesses. I noticed there is a Haynes cemetery in Fulton county, but, no clues to the Haynes family. I know this is not much to go on, but, I am working hard at getting anything I can. The Haynes side of my family appears to be totally lost and untraceable.

I need help finding information about Abram HUGHES and his wife Mollie.  They lived in Salem, AR and ran a bakery/grocery store.  I would appreciate ANY information...but if someone could look at a death index and tell me when he died, I would be able to send for a death certificate and get some much needed info about his parents.  I am fairly certain that he was still alive in 1930 because he was listed as a survivor of my ggrandfather, William Kennedy HUGHES, who lived all of his married life and died in Washington County, AR in Westfork.  Thank you in advance for any help. Judie
Hello...this is an update to an earlier query that I posted concerning my great uncle, Abram HUGHES and his wife Mollie.  They lived in Salem all of their married lives and ran a bakery/grocery store there.  To my knowledge they had no children.  Any information concerning these people would be greatly appreciated....particularly Mollies maiden name....and any info related to Abram’s death and burial. I found his death date in an AR mortality schedule...in 1933.  Could anyone tell me where I might find an obituary for my uncle??? Again...thanks for any help. Judie

Horatio James HUMPHRIES (1838-1883), my g. grandfather.  He was married to Eliza C. LIVINGSTON (1840-1921) The place of residence for Horatio was Salem, Fulton county, AR.  Any information about his profession or Civil War record would be appreciated.  If members of the HUMPHRIES family still reside there, I would be interested in hearing from any of them who might have information on these individuals.

Hutson, Guthrie

I am interested in finding where members of the Hutson and Guthrie families might be buried, in or near Elizabeth. Any help would be appreciated as I would like to visit the graves and take photos.

David Layfette Hutson was b. in Fulton Co. AR, Big Creek Township in 1872. His father (David? William?) would have been born around 1859-1861, probably in GA. David’s wife, Sarah Ann Guthrie Hutson was the dau. Of George Washington Guthrie (son of Allen Guthrie and Sarah Ann Sturad (Stuard)) and Ruth Springer (dau. Of Josephus and Sarah Ann Smith Springer). Sarah Ann Guthrie Hutson, my g grandmother, was born December 23, 1874 and died June 30, 1911 in Elizabeth, and was buried there. David moved the family to Atoka Co. OK sometime after her death. My Grandmother Ollie May Hutson, b. July 15, 1895 was the oldest of their children. I would like to obtain a birth certificate for her and her parents. Can you tell me how to go about this? Also would like to find a record of David and Sarah’s marriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for my Grandparents. I am looking for information on Joseph Alexander INMAN. He was born in Fulton County in 1864. His parents were “J A” INMAN and Melvina PAYNE. J A may be Joseph Alexander, I really don’t know because all I have to go on is my grandfather’s death certificate which list his father as J A. J A INMAN was born in Kentucky. Melvina Payne was born in Tennessee. I found my grandfather’s family in the 1900 census in Baxter County Arkansas, Independence Twsp, he was married to Susan PAYNE, whose father was Alec Payne an early day school teacher in Baxter County. I have been unable to find out anything else either forward or backward in the census records. I am researching the INMAN family name for my family records and am going no where fast. Thank You I am Kenneth Inman RR 1 Bix 15300 Porum, OK 74455 Phone 918-484-2180

My grandmother was born in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. Grandma was Mattie Lillian Jones b June 4, 1910. Her parents were Frank Jones and Carmen Ercel Wright Jones. Carmen was also born in Mammoth Springs March 17, 1887. I am having trouble locating the whereabouts of several of the parents. Carmen’s mother was Cynthia “Elizabeth” Kissee Wright. I have found land records for a John Kissee in the same area where I also found land in the names of William Wright and Jacob H. Jones. William was the husband of Elizabeth and Jacob was the father of Frank Jones. Jacob was married to Eliza Mason. By the time my grandmother married in 1929 the family had moved to Oklahoma, but I don’t know if the grandparents were still alive. I would very much appreciate any leads on my missing family members! She was a sister to William “Bill” Elmo Jones, Donald “Don” Orville Jones and Rosemary Jones. They ended up in the Carthage/Joplin Missouri area in the late 20’s early 30’s. (UPDATE) Frank Jones was born in Missouri, but according to her death certificate Carmen was born in Mammoth Springs in 1887. She was the sister of Edward, John, Jesse, Charley and Gus Wright. Their parents were William Wright and Cynthia Elizabeth Kissee. It is my understanding that Cynthia had at least one brother, John Kissee that lived in the Mammoth Springs area. I know so very little about this family and would love to have any leads sent my way that anyone can share.

John G. McDonel (various spellings) was born in Fulton County in 1844, the son of a William and btb Elizabeth GROUNDS. Both were from Mo, btb the boothill area. John had brothers Severe and David and family tradition says a sister Susanah. All four are found on the 1850 Fulton census with GROUNDS or LONG families. Some of the names seem to be Mc Daniel because of the handwriting. All sons moved to Callahan county, Tx. Fate of the sister is unknown. Need any help/information possible.

We are looking for information on a number of ancestors. Primarily, one Samuel MONTGOMERY. His oldest son James Ferguson MONTGOMERY was born December 1851 in North Carolina. Between then and 1857 they moved to Fulton County where Samuel purchased land. Apparently, Sam was married three times according to the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census. Mary was his first wife, Sarah C. his second and Sarah G. his third. James’ wife, Saphronia WISEMAN is another ancestor we have no information on. Elwood T. SODEN was born in Green Sands, New Jersey. An 1850 Caldwell County, Kentucky census puts him there with his brothers, William, John Edward, Thomas and Joseph and one sister Curelia. Elwood married Margaret HILDRETH January 02, 1851. They had the following children: Anna Elizabeth, Marabra, David Ellen and Mary (Molly) Nelson SODEN, who was my husband’s great-grandmother. After Margaret died Elwood married Susan D. WILLIAMS December 28, 1859. They had William H., Lula Lucentia, James Tazwell, Cordelia, and Susan who died at the age of four. Elwood died February 06, in Wiseman, Arkansas. Molly SODEN married Jarret Morrow LYNCH. He was born August 04, 1849 in Missouri. He is buried in Fulton County. His siblings include: Smith B., Malinda, Emily (Emma), Kate or Katherine and Matilda. Jarret and Molly’s children were: Francis Arilla who married William Lewis BELL, Susan Emma who married William Ignatius (Nash) MONTGOMERY, Jim’s grandparents and William Smith LYNCH who married Maude COZORT. If any of these names ring a bell, please get in touch with us. Our email is: pabst@btc-bci.com Judie Montgomery, 17813 77th St., South Haven, MI 49090

Hoping to find obituaries for Reverand and Mrs. Moran.  These people are my husband’s great grandparents.  Gertie Moran was married to Bob’s Great Uncle Jody (Joseph F. Moran).  I wonder what caused her death at such an early age.  His uncle then married twice more.  He and Martha, his third wife, are buried in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery in Butler County, Missouri near Poplar Bluff.  Those burials were in 1958 and 1959.  Mattie Mae Moran Lasseter was a sister to Bob’s grandfather, Thomas Arno Moran.  JCH Moran 1855 to 1927.  I think he died in the spring of the year.  My inlaws’ family home burned in 1955, so may treasurers, papers, and pictures were lost forever.

Older Query:  My husband’s great-grandfather and great-grandmother are buried in Field Creek Cemetery. He was a Pentecostal preacher, built and nurtured the Field Creek Church early 1900’s until his death in 1927. We would appreciate any information on Rev Jonathan U or H (Uriah or Hezziakiah or Huron) MORAN and his wife Adeline HATCHETT MORAN. He was born 1855 died 1927; she was born 1854 and died in 1936. She had two daughters before they married Emma and Sarah. Their son JODY (Joseph) was born 1878 or 1879 IN Saline CO IL; Mattie Mae (Martha) Moran LASSETTER; Thomas ARNO – 1884 DIED 1965 (my husband’s grandfather). I have the information of ARNO AND ROSE HESSELRODE MORAN; their children etc. Our son JODY LEO has two daughters JOLENE and COURTNEY – this could possibly be the end of this MORAN line. I would like to identify Jonathan’s parents and any siblings he may have had. I am reasonably sure there are branches out there! Any information that would be available would be appreciated; church records, burial information, obituaries, etc. Thank you.

I am interested in learning family history/genealogy about my grandparents and their ancestors. Vester and Minnie Peterson are their names. I know that Vester died about 1973. He was the son of William Peterson and Sara(h) Hardin Bell. He was raised by some of William Peterson’s brothers after Sara Bell’s death around 1905. I would like to know all there is to know about these events and ancestors before them. Also, my grandmother Minnie (Carter) Peterson died about 1973. I am looking for information on my Grandparents, Walter Everett and Vincie Lynn (Brown) Robbins. An uncle of mine told me when I began my search that if I began looking under ROBINS that I would not find anything, that my Grandpa Robbins chose to drop one of the B’s from his last name because “he could see no sense in wasting time in spelling it with two B’s when it sounded the same with one B”. I know from family records that they moved to Camp, Arkansas about 1928-29 and had four more children. When they moved to Camp, Arkansas they had five children. My Grandma Vincie died there around 1940-41 and my mother says that she is buried at Salem, Arkansas but she could not remember the name of the cemetery. Is there anyone out there that can help me? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Robinson, Fink

Am interested in Mary ROBINSON (ROBISON). She was born 4, Oct 1870 and died approximately 28, Jun, 1900. She married William Jefferson FINK abt 17, July, 1885.  I found them in the 1900 census for Big Creek Township in Fulton County. Sometime in June, Mary and five of seven children died within a week of each other from poison mushroom soup. The children that died are William Cecil, James Lowell, Rosa Lee, Mellven Alven, and Homer Wessly.  I was told this story but have not been able to prove it. William Jefferson FINK moved to Kansas sometime after these deaths with his other two children, Ezekiel and Chalen Verdell.

My wife believes that her great grandfather John Page ROGERS is buried in Fulton County, possibly in the vicinity of either Viola or Elizabeth. She would appreciate any information about him or his burial site.

Rogers, Shed

I have a letter from Mrs. M. J. Rogers of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas written between 1860 and 1890 to her Uncle C. A. Shed in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is highly possible that M. J. Rogers’ maiden name was Shed and I am trying to figure out where she fits into my Shed family. Since she called C. A. “Cydney A. Shed” Uncle and discussed a couple of his brothers, I believe her to be one of their children) or maybe their sister’s child. Cydney Shed was born in 1822.  M. J. would have had to be born between 1840 and 1860 probably in Georgia.

Sanders, Saunders

I would like to find info about my family. The SANDERS family was a black family who originated near Fulton AR. My grandfather, Tom, was an ex-slave from either Mississippi or Alabama. There is not a lot of history on him, but I do know he married a young woman with 3 children in the mid to late 1880’s and they lived in Fulton at the time my father was born. The woman he married was Miranda HIGGS. Her children were Manning (nick-named Son), Bertha and Kate. The children they had together were: John L., Raymond, Bessie, Effie, Rosalie, Leola and Lutennie. Tom also had 2 other sets of children by other women, 5 of those other children were brought home for Miranda to raise – they were Henry, Jack, JC, Willie and George. My father was born in 1905, so I know they were there at the time. I know the family lived in Texarkana, Honeygrove and various places. Miranda and her birth children moved to Portland, Oregon in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. Thank you, any and all info on these people would be most helpful.

Similarly, Southworth lived in the Evening Shade area, although records indicate that at least some of his children are in Fulton county. Pat Curliss-Leiker

I have a rather unique problem. My grandfather, Fred Stephens, was born, along with a twin, ED, on 30 Mar 1890, in "Salem AR". I find that there are five, count 'em...five Salems in the state of AR...in Fulton Co., in Ouachita Co., in Pike Co., in Saline Co., and, perhaps, in Faulkner Co. Now, which county should I start in??? Also, compounding the problem, is the fact that the 1890 census is, as everyone knows, unavailable. Does anyone know anything about a Stephens family in any of these counties? The father of Ed and Fred was James Knox Polk (called "Polk") Stephens, b. 24 May 1854 in, we think, TN, and their mother was Adnie Ozella Lemonds, b. 30 Dec 1860 in Henry Co. TN. The twins were the only children born in "Salem"...others were born in OK, and Sebastian Co. AR. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

I am looking for ancestors and descendants of Samuel & Hazey STROUD, Thomas & Eleanor STROUD, Albert and Margaret (STROUD) MAHERGE/MAHERD, who all arrived in the Myatt Township area before 1836. Related families are William D. and John P. TAYLOR, Charles T. ROSS, and possibly William MORGAN. I would also like to identify Trifany or Tryphonia, wife of Samuel & Hazey's son, John. She may have been related to Thomas PEWITT and/or Wyatt SMITH. I am also interested, more generally, in the Native American presence in Fulton Co.

I am looking for infomation on William Switzer, who died in Fulton Co. 3/11/1930. Could I get a look up and see if he is buried there somewhere, or if the local funeral home had the service. I'm thinking this is the William Henry Switzer who was married several times, last time that I know of was to Nellie Jane MANES. Lived most of his life in Searcy Co.  The Ark Death Index listed this Wm Switzer death information.
