der the molasses pan and burned that whole pan of molasses. My Ma was just as scared as Aunt Pollie. They wanted someone to see about us kids, but we were already standing around them.

     When Aunt Pollie had let out a yell, I became so frightened that I yelled too. That stuck with me. We always had a lot of excitement on the farm.

THE OLD BLIND HORSE

     When I was quite a small boy, my Pa swapped for an old blind horse. I had to plow this old horse as long as he lived. As long as I would catch him in turning at the turn row, I could get along fine, but, being a little boy, I would get to watching a big flock of birds come over and would forget my blind horse. Before I would know it, he would come around on my drag or harrow and get himself all tangled up and fall down. It would scare me half out of my wits. Then I would have to yell for help to get my horse untangled and up on his feet again.   I always told Pa that I couldn't keep him from falling down, but all the time I knew I was watching the birds fly by.

     I always promised myself, whenever they would help me get him untangled and up, that whenever I was grown and had a family, that I would never make my boys plow with an old blind horse. So far, I have kept my promise. I suffered untold misery plowing with that old blind horse!

     Dora and I always had to bring the horses out and give them water. One day our well at the horse lot was dry, so we had to bring old "blindie" into the yard to water him. After he drank Dora said,  "Fratus there is so much pretty green grass in our yard, I'll just pull the bridle off this horse and let him graze on this grass."  She did just that. When we started into the house that old horse followed us. Right into the house he came! We could not stop him, and he almost scared our Ma to death. We were all screaming at the top of our voices and he almost destroyed everything in our house! My little brother Ed, was a little tot, and Lon was a little baby. Ma was trying
