PARAGOULD LAUNDRY AND DRY CLEANING



With the complexity of urban life, its varied industries creating so much soot and dirt, the business of properly laundering clothes has becomes very important in all cities of the size of Paragould. There are, however, laundries and laundries. Some wash your clothes and deliver what is left of them while others exercise extreme care and are able to cleanse all soiled linen without injury  to the fabric. In the establishment of the Paragould Laundry & Dry Cleaning Co., this city can lay claim to having the best equipped and most efficiently conducted laundry and dry cleaning plant in this section. This is one the firmly established and successful industries of the city, and is located in a large brick building at 409 N. Pruet Street. The equipment  includes steam washers, ironers, dryers, collar and cuff machines, dry cleaning machinery of the latest type and every other appliance known to modern laundry and dry cleaning science. They maintain efficient delivery service throughout the city, also ship work to surrounding territory. The quality of their work cannot be excelled anywhere. They have the only completely equipped dry cleaning plant between Memphis, TN and St. Louis, MO. In all departments they require the services of about 15 people. This business is owned by J. H. McPherson and R. L. Carpenter the last named being manager. Both gentlemen stand high in the business and financial circles, are public spirited to a degree and may always be found taking an active interest in every project for public good.

PARAGOULD BRICK COMPANY


No one interest has contributed so much toward the growth and development of Paragould as has its manufacturing interests.

Paragould, with its superior geographical location and adequate transportation facilities, presents greater possibilities to manufacturers than any other city of its size in this section. Our businessmen are progressive, always interesting themselves in the welfare of the community. Prominent among the strong  and successful manufacturing establishments of Paragould, is the Paragould Brick Company, located on a convenient site in the western section of the city, on Walcott Road.

They are extensive manufacturers of plain and fancy pressed brick. The quality of their product has won for it an enviable reputation throughout this section. The plant is modern from a standpoint of equipment and has a large productive capacity. The yards and plant cover approximately five acres, and under normal conditions regular employment is furnished to a large number of workmen. The major portion of their output is sold here and in the territory within a radius of about 40 or 50 miles of Paragould. This enterprise has been established since 1902. The company is incorporated under the laws of the State an ample capital and has for its officers the following well known, energetic and progressive business men: R.C. Grizzard, President; Eli Meiser, Vice-President; and Wm. F. Kirsch, Secretary and Treasurer. The first named is a prominent druggist: Mr. Meiser is President of the National Bank of Commerce and one of the wealthiest citizens in the country while Mr. Kirsch is a local lawyer and financial man of promience.


STEDMAN HARDWARE COMPANY


The trade in hardware is an important one, embracing as it does such variety of articles absolutely indispensable to various other pursuits as well as necessities in every household. The Stedman Hardware Company located in modern quarters at 109-112 W. Emerson and 112 S. Pruet Street, occupies a very important position in the hardware trade of Greene County. This is one of our old established enterprises having been founded May 1, 1905, and has been a success from its very inception, all because of the high grade stock carried and liberal prices quoted. The premises utilized have a frontage on Emerson Street of 50 feet, also a frontage on S. Pruet Street of 25 feet. Each salesroom has a depth of 90 feet and is two stories in height. The stock carried is one of the largest and most complete to be found in this section, and embraces staples, heavy and builder's hardware, farm implements, tools. Ford automobiles and accessories, buggies, wagons, harness saddlery, paints, oils, glass, sporting goods, fishing tackle, etc. They also manufacture and repair harness and saddlery and have a garage in connection in which department they do general repair and storage, capital and transacts both wholesale and retail business. Its business is not only local but extends throughout this and into several of the adjoining counties.

The gentlemen at the head of this well known establishment and those who in a large measure of its steady growth are; E.U. Stedman, President and C.W. Stedman, Secretary and Treasurer. They are both widely know, stand high in the estimation of the public and never fail to do their full share in all matters calculated to benefit Paragould and surrounding country.


W. T. DOUGLAS & SON 


In this age everybody to successful must be progressive and keep abreast of the times. In operating a blacksmith shop a man must be practical and well versed in all the details of the business. Prominent among the first class and reliable establishments of this nature in Paragould is that of W. T. Douglas and Son at 116 W. Highland Street. This business has been established since the early part of 1915, and at the present location since June 9, 1917. It is situated in a modern concrete structure which is provided with power machinery and all up-to-date tool and quality of the work of the firm cannot be excelled. They have spent the greater part of their lives in this line and know it from A to Z. They do a general blacksmith, woodworking and repair business, in fact, repair anything made of iron or wood. They all do expert horseshoeing on short notice. The large patronage enjoyed has been won through the high quality of their work and prompt service. The members of the firm are W. T. Douglas and H. C. Douglas. Both are widely and favorably known, have many friends here, and take deep interest in the welfare of the community.
