Some wise man has said that a community is known by its banks. If that statement be true, been Paragould is fortunate in having within its confines several admirable financial institutions. One of these widely known for its strength and prudent management is the Paragould Trust Company, next to the youngest financial institution in the city, but one whose advancement has been steady and gratifying and whose success has long been an assured. HURT-HEATON GROCERY COMPANY


Just look at the map, and then it can be understood that Paragould is the center of a tremendous empire, that is and will continue to be an attracted to Paragould  as a wholesale center. The name of the Hurt-Heaton Grocery Company is known to every dealer in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri and traveling salesman are daily taking orders from thriving merchants. 

This business was planned to supply the retail merchants of this section, and from the start was given a liberal patronage and it grew and expanded with the flight of time until today it is in the very front rank among the largest and most successful concerns of a similar nature In the northeastern part of the state.  A specialty is made of fruits and produce in season, the company having a large storage plant for taking care of perishable goods.  They are exclusive distributors in their territory  for the C. F. Blanke Tea and Coffee Company's famous teas and coffees, also "Cooks Dry Goldblume, " The best non-intoxicating beverage on the market, which is much sought after where ever sold and consumed. The main warehouse of the Hurt-Heaton Grocery Company is a modern two story brick structure, 42x64 ft. in size, and they also have another 60x126 ft. This company was incorporated December 26, 1915, with the following officers and directors: F. J. Heaton, President; W. R. Owens, Vice-president; J. C. Hurt, Treasurer and Manager, and J. R. Perkins, Secretary. Directors: F. J. Heaton, S. Bertig, J. C. Hurt, J. R. Bertig and N. H. Dickson. The above named gentlemen are numbered among the leading financial citizens and business men of the community and have long been prominently identified with the development of Paragould and Greene County.        


IDEAL ICE CREAM AND BOTTLING WORKS


Standing conspicuously in the foreground with many representative business institutions of Paragould, is the Ideal Ice Cream and Bottling Works, manufactures of high grade ice cream and frozen dainties and bottlers of soda water and all kinds of refreshing temperance beverages. This concern is also distributor of "Cerva," one of the most popular soft drinks on the market. It has all of the ingredients of beer except the alcohol, and is an excellent trade builder.   

The Ideal Ice Cream and Bottling Works is one of the best equipped and most up-to-date manufacturing enterprises of its kind in this section and enjoys a broad and growing patronage among discriminating retail dealers in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri. The quality of their products cannot be excelled anywhere, and absolute sanitation prevails in every department of the plant.  Shipments are made to all surrounding country and local deliveries are made with auto trucks. This business is owned by P. C. Ritter, one of the leading, energetic and progressive businessmen of Paragould, and a gentleman with whom it is always a pleasure to deal. He has been engaged in the ice cream manufacturing business about 4 years and in the bottling business about 3 years.


PARAGOULD BATTERY COMPANY


One of the newly established And growing inner rises of this Say the then one of the in this double values to car owners of this section, is the Paragould Battery Company, which entered the local field the on March 1, 1918. They sell, rent, and re-charge and repair storage batteries, furnishing their patrons unexcelled service at all times and at prices as low as can be had anywhere. They have the very best of facilities for testing, re-charging and repairing batteries and all work entrusted to them is looked after in a painstaking manner by an expert in this important line.

The Paragould Battery Company is located at 112 West Court Street and is under the efficient management of W. T. Stanley. He is a hustler and a real live wire in local business circles who is meeting with success by deserving it.      


GREEN BROTHERS


With the widespread use of the automobile as a means of locomotion and transportation, comes the simultaneous need for establishments for the upkeep and repair of these machines. A recognition of this necessity is found in the modern garage, which is common in every community today. One of the best representatives of this line of business in Paragould us Green Brothers. These gentlemen operate a strictly first-class, modernly equipped garage and machine shop and deal in automobile accessories, tires, oils, greases, etc. This business is located at 310 S. Pruet Street. Their present quarters have dimensions of 64x72 feet, although they are now building an addition to the rear of the building, with a floor space of 25x140 feet and a large frontage on Main Street.

This is one of the best equipped establishments of its kind in this section and enjoys a large and constantly expanding patronage. A specialty is made of strictly high grade machine work and auto repairing and their prices are as low as can be had anywhere.

This business is owned by D. H. and R. s. Green, two of our leading citizens, who stand high in the estimation of all and are counted among the real live wires in Paragould's commercial circles. They have been established about 10 years, although have resided here practically all their lives and have many friends in this community.
