PARAGOULD - Paul Kenneth Bowman of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at his residence. He was 67.
He was born Nov. 13, 1935, in Cumberland, Md. He was retired from SPX Contech in Dowagiac, Mich. He served in the United States Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Ray; his parents, Melvin and Aleatha Riggleman Bowman; three brothers, Gerald, Edward and Raymond Bowman; and five sisters, Edith Buset, Evelyn Hansford, Irma Devore, Dorothy Weisenmiller and Catherine Deiley.
Survivors include his wife, Evalene Bowman of the home; two sons, Eric Biggs and Paul Bowman, both of Niles, Mich.; three daughters, Cheryl Ashby of Dowagiac, Mich., Kimberly Ferguson of Paragould, and Christina Jankoviak of Niles, Mich.; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Ray of Clifton, Tenn.; two brothers, Gary and Melvin Bowman, both of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Helen O'Toole and Pat Phillips, both of Cumberland, Md.; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 6, 2003, at the Southside Church of God in Paragould with the Rev. David Shrabla officiating. Burial followed in the Cardwell Cemetery in Cardwell, Mo.
Pallbearers were Aleasha Ashby, DeAnna Ferguson, Luke Bowman, Jeremy Ashby, Amanda Bowman, Aaron Ferguson, Isaac Bowman, Heather Ray, Ashley Ray and Zachery Sauers.
Honorary pallbearers were Earl Wooldridge and John Lesniak.
Memorials made be made to St. Jude's Hospital.

Elvis Roy Davidson


PARAGOULD - Elvis Roy Davidson of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was 83.
He was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Monette. He was a retired carpenter and of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Mary Davidson; and a sister, Lorene Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Alene (Akes) Davidson of the home; a son, Darrell Davidson of Paragould; three daughters, Shelvie Morris of Hoxie, Barbara Prince of Jonesboro, and Martha Ewing of Paragould; a brother, Boyd Davidson of Lake City; a sister, Pauline Parrish of Monette; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 5, 2003, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Kenny Crafton officiating. Burial followed in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Rodney James, Noel Fore, Donald Johnson, Bobby Boren, Tim, Skyler, Bo and Byron Stocker.

Dorris Sue Morrow


BEECH GROVE - Dorris Sue Morrow of Beech Grove died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her residence. She was 61.
She was born April 23, 1941, in Stanford. She was a retired social worker and former owner of Morrow's Grocery. She was a member of the Commissary Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Maudie Doughty Shaffer; and a brother, J.M. Shaffer.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Morrow of the home; two sons, Keith Morrow of Beech Grove and Mark Morrow of Jonesboro; a brother, Jones Shaffer of Hardy; a sister, Connie Gill of Beech Grove; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 4, 2003, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Phil Wilkerson, L.R. Smith and Darrell Austin officiating. Burial followed in the Morrow Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Rippy, Ted Spillman, Wes and Jeff Gill, Brad Clark and Allen Crosno.
Memorials may be made to St. Bernard's Hospice or the Children's Home of Paragould.

Imogean Peoples

 

Imogean Peoples, 79, of Paragould died Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Lake City, she was the former owner of Peoples Frosty Drive-In in Bakersfield, Calif.,she was a member of the Peace Tabernacle in Paragould and a former member of First Church of the Nazarene in Bakersfield.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald "Shorty" Gramling and Donny Gramling, both of Paragould; a daughter, Etta Hilfinger of Bolivar, Ohio; a brother, Eual White of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Peoples; parents, George and Etta Mae White; and two sisters.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bakersfield, with Ted Underwood officiating.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Bakersfield.

H. Kenneth Bean

 

 

SCHUGTOWN -- H. Kenneth Bean, 79, of Schugtown died Thursday, Feb. 6, at Paragould Nursing Center.

Born in Piggott, he was a retired lieutenant and assistant troop commander for both Troop B and Troop C of the Arkansas State Police, a World War II Navy veteran, a Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Shriners and Mulberry Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Schug Bean of the home; one daughter, Mary Ellen Pepper of Little Rock; four brothers, Paul Bean and L.F. Bean, both of Jonesboro, and Clarence Bean and Harold Bean, both of Texas; and two granddaughters, Jennifer Wood of Conway and Jessica Coffman of Oklahoma; and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Elmer Bean.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Bill Drake officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kent Butler, Carroll Childress, Benny Cox, Eddie Russom, Paul Edward Bean and Floyd Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will include Leon Beaton, Jimmie Owen, David Schug, Tyler Butler, James Danley and Mike Carter.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Dorothy Jo Caldwell Colley, 78, of Jonesboro, who died Friday, Feb. 7, at St. Bernard's Medical Center will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Oaklawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Kinnett officiating.

Born in Paragould, she was a retired certified nurses' assistant and worked several years for Rose SkilCare Nursing Center and the George W. Jackson Mental Health Center in Jonesboro. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Caldwell of Brookland and Dale Caldwell of Bellingham, Wash.; one brother, Robert Wayne Johnson of Germantown, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Lyle Caldwell, Sarah Rachael Caldwell, Heather Caldwell, Andrea Caldwell and Aaron Caldwell; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Caldwell; her second husband, Raymond Colley; and one son, Jack Kenneth Caldwell.

Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.

There will be no visitation.


Vernon W. Jackson



PARAGOULD -- Vernon W. Jackson, 84, of Paragould died Saturday, Feb. 8, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial chapel. Herb Starr will officiate, and burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Born in Greene County, he was a retired postal carrier.

Survivors include one brother, Dewayne Jackson of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Everett and Ellzena Ford Jackson.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post No. 17.

James Edward Keller, 58, of Jonesboro died Sunday, Feb. 9, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Paragould, he had worked in construction.

Survivors include his parents, Harry and Geraldine Caldwell of Jonesboro; and one sister, Abigail Turney of Santa Fe, N.M.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Linwood Cemetery, with Todd Johnson officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Todd Johnson, Gary Schlueter, Darrell Cline, Dwight Hamby, B.J. Schlueter and Brandon Schlueter.

Honorary pallbearers will include Suzanne Schlueter and Trina Thompson.

Izetta Noel, 79, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 9, at Sunshine Manor Retirement Home in Paragould.

Born in the Alexander community in Greene County, she was a retired cook for Corner Cafe and Ogles Restaurant and was of the Baptist belief.

Crockett of Columbia, Mo., and Teresa Kay Quinn of Paragould; 25 grandchildren, Gaylon Gaulden, Tammy Griggs, Larry M. Noel, Thomas Noel, Timothy Noel, Pamela Powell, Jason Noel, Lisa Fortman, Perry L. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Noel; her parents, William and Minnie Whiteside; four brothers; four sisters; and one grandson.

Linda Kay Grooms, 41, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 9, at her home. Born in Greene County, she was a retired nurse's assistant for the Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

Survivors include her husband, Cloyce Grooms Jr. of the home; three sons, Cloyce Dewitt Grooms of the home, and Lonnie Dillard Jr. and Cody Gene Grooms, both of Paragould; a daughter, Leanna Lawrence of Paragould; her mother, Oniedean Hanks of Paragould; two brothers, Johnny Shepherd of Corning and Ronnie Shepherd of Oracle, Ariz.; five sisters, Peggy Rice of Paragould, Edna Dulaney of Hoxie, Karen Hall of Paragould, Diannia Hinds of Light and Betty Phillips of Jonesboro; and two granddaughters, Shaylie Lawrence and Shelby Lawrence, both of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her father, Talmadge Hanks.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Paragould, with the Rev. Brandon Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Croft Cemetery in Stanford.

Pallbearers will include Roger Dale Beck, Jeff Beck, Sim Rice, Jonathan Rice, Chris Dulaney and Randy Lenderman.

Teresa Carol Foster Goodwin, 58, of Paragould died Monday, Feb. 10, at Baptist Memorial East Hospital in Memphis.

Born in Paragould, she was an employee of Emerson Electric and a member of South Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters Angela McClung of Paragould and Christa Frank of Memphis; one brother, Stanley McDaniel of Paragould; four sisters, Karen Bryson, Serena Fulkerson, LaDonna Bowen and Debra West, all of Paragould; one half sister, Tangela McDaniel of Conway; one stepsister, Kathy Riggsbee of Paragould; and two grandchildren, Zackery Wayne Thompson and Zeth Austin Holt McClung.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Weldon Edward McDaniel and Martha Jean Riggsbee; and one daughter, Sheila Annette Goodwin.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brown's Chapel Cemetery, with Terry Songer officiating.

Pallbearers will include Danny Thompson, Daryl McCreless, Bart Clark, Fred Greer, Marvin Exum and Charles Sims.

Morris Gene Lee will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

MARMADUKE -- Charles E. "Diego" Fuller, 62, of Marmaduke died Monday, Feb. 10, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Caraway, he worked as a manager for Lafe Rural Water and was a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Bryan Fuller of Marmaduke; one daughter, Pamela Bevill of St. Peters, Mo.; two stepsons, Bruce Braman and Jason Braman; three brothers, Lee Fuller and Jerry Fuller, both of Marmaduke, and Donald Fuller of Paragould; three sisters, Jo Ann Hester of Marmaduke, Evaleen Bivens of Lakeview and Cora Ann Pflaumer of Paragould; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Lee Fuller; his parents, Sammie Lee and Sylvia Irene Nelson Fuller; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Irby Funeral Home, with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke.

The Rev. Curt Dwyer will officiate, and burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Paragould.

Born in Waldenburg, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Curtis Wheeler of the home; two sons, Steven Crouch of Paragould and Russell Wheeler of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Evelyn Ridley Rennicke.

POCAHONTAS -- Georgia Oma Koller, 94, of Pocahontas died Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Randolph County Medical Center. Born in Newport, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Koller of Arizona, Jerry Koller of Oregon and Roy Koller of Nevada; four daughters, Mildred Cook of Pocahontas, Agnes Hass of Nevada, Lois Reed of Indiana and Lilly Schrantz of Anderson, Ind.; a brother, Leamon Koller of Paragould; a sister, Judy Strauss of St. Joe, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Arthur Koller, Eugene Koller and Ray Koller; and her parents, George and Oma Richard Green.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with Dale House officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery at Paragould.

OWENSVILLE, Mo. -- Funeral services for Nancy Pauline Barnhill, 68, of Owensville, who died Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel in Paragould.

The Rev. Bob Lee will officiate, and burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery at Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Michael LeJeune Jr., Michael May Jr., Derick LeJeune, Matthew May, Quinton LeJeune, Marcus May and Josh Barnhill.

Born in Paragould, she was a homemaker, had worked for a delivery company and was a retired nursing home employee. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence F. Barnhill Jr. of Owensville; two sons, Clarence F. Barnhill III of Houston, Mo., and Michael May of St. Louis; two daughters, Sheryl LeJeune of Moscow Mills, Mo., and Debbie Vance of Villa Ridge, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Lou Dortch of Arnold, Mo., Betty Latting of Paragould and Marie Rehg of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Edgar and Marcia Lax May, and two brothers.

Donald Ray Brown



PARAGOULD -- Donald Ray Brown, 70, of Paragould died Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Regional Medical Center of NEA.

Born in Clay County, he retired from General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas, and moved to Paragould in 1985. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Alan Brown of Salt Lake City, and Michael Jerome Brown of Ogden, Utah; one brother, Gerald Brown of Paragould; three sisters, Mildred Brown and Reba Henson, both of Piggott, and Madeline Helton of Bay City, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Timmary Barnes, Cindy Land, Theresa Craner, Adam Land and Tony Brown, all of Utah, Tannis Brown and Erik Brown, both of Washington, and Larry McKenzie of Texas; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Olson Brown; and his parents, Jesse Thomas and Hazel Parker Brown.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoggard Funeral Home in Piggott, with the Rev. Jim Thresher officiating.

PARAGOULD -- Homer Millard Edgar, 73, of Paragould died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

He was born in Greene County and was a retired painter and Pentecostal minister.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Edgar of the home; one son, Kevin Edgar of Paragould; one daughter, Linda Brotemarkle of Paragould; two brothers, Raymond Edgar and Carlon Edgar, both of Paragould; one sister, Edna Coln of Paragould; and five grandchildren, Darryl Brotemarkle, Karla Edgar, Shawntae Edgar, Kingston Edgar and B.J. Edgar, all of Paragould; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Homer Ray Edgar; his parents, Truman Leonard and Donie Victoria Vannoy Edgar; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Jim Frey and Earl McKelvey officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

PARAGOULD -- Nora Hovis, 98, of Paragould, a former resident of Corning, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, at her home. She was born in Tennessee, was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Jess Hovis of Kennett, Mo., Bill Hovis of Houston, Texas, and Robert Hovis of Paragould; one daughter, Virginia Merle West of Paragould; one sister, Truley Skaggs of Winston, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Camuel Eli Hovis; her parents, Porter and Lucy Spears Sells; a daughter, Mildred Weaver; three sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11 a. m. Saturday in the chapel of Ermert Funeral Home in Corning, with the Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the Corning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hovis, Michael Hovis, Jim Hovis, Steve May, Dale May and Edgar Parrish.

Honorary pallbearers will include Dick Hovis and Stan Hovis.

PARAGOULD -- Darrel D. Hufford, 70, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 13, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Cardwell, Mo., he was a farmer and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Jolene Hufford of Paragould; one son, Rudy Hufford of Paragould; two daughters, Rita Andis and Carla Hatch, both of Paragould; three brothers, Dennis Hufford of Paragould and Gene Hufford and Wendell Hufford, both of Arbyrd, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy W. and Nola Elizabeth Lloyd Hufford.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial chapel, with the Revs. Dennis Davis and Junior Vester officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Paragould.

PARAGOULD -- Funeral services for Jane A. Chipman, 87, of Paragould, who died Thursday, Feb. 13, in Jonesboro will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Heath Colonial Funeral Home chapel in Paragould, with Bill Adams and Wade Stark officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery at Paragould.

Born in Craighead County, she was a former owner of Adam's Upholstery, a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Chandler of Jonesboro and Nelda Grage of State Center, Iowa; two stepdaughters, June Chandler of Minneapolis and Jean Crom of Mount Prospect, Ill.; one brother, Carl Born of Paragould; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Adams; her second husband, J.V. Chipman; her parents, Robert and Florence Williams Born; one brother; and two great-grandsons.

PARAGOULD -- Walter Thomas Barnes, 68, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 13, at the VA Hospital in Memphis.

Born in Dunklin County, Mo., he was a Navy veteran and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Barnes of the home; one son, John Barnes of Paragould; two daughters, Marie Jones and Joyce Smith, both of Paragould; one brother, Wendell Barnes of Paragould; two sisters, Dot Free of Paragould and Truely Mangrum of Cardwell, Mo.; six grandchildren, Shane Smith, Amber Smith, J.J. Barnes, Alisha Barnes, Sarah Barnes and Colton Barnes.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Helen Louise Barnes, and his parents, John William and Lola Meyers Barnes.

SEMINOLE, Fla.--Funeral services for Marie Noblin, 92, of Seminole, formerly of Paragould, who died Thursday, Feb. 13, at Health Care of Largo, Fla., will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Heath Colonial Funeral Home chapel of Paragould, with Paul McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

Pallbearers will be Charles Light, Theodore Andrews, Ray Dachs, Bob Carter, Joe Kulpa and Rick Noblin.

Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Noblin of Atlanta and Jim Noblin of Sadler, Texas; three daughters, Milly Myers and Ramona Austin, both of Largo, and Paula Bradford of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd V. Noblin; her parents, Charles and Gertrude Seagroves Livesay; five brothers; and one grandson.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PARAGOULD -- Horace Moyal Taylor, 73, of Paragould died Friday, Feb. 14, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Born in Jonesboro, he was retired from the Del Mar, Calif., Thoroughbred Club.

PARAGOULD -- John Albert Pierceall, 91, of Paragould died Saturday, Feb. 15, at Paragould Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The Rev. Jack Harris and Rex Bouldin will officiate, and burial with military honors provided by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4556 will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will include Wayne Abell, James Winning, Ronnie Lewis, Rick Lane, R.C. Van Husen and Cliff Pierceall.

Born in Fancy Farm, Ky., he was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Alaska, Australia and the South Pacific. He had been a farmer in Greene and Craighead counties since 1948 and raised registered black Angus cattle.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 0017 and St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include a brother, Bernard E. "Gene" Pierceall of Morton, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The rosary service will begin at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.

RECTOR -- Laura May Eaton, 83, of Rector died Saturday, Feb. 15, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Born at Rector, she was a homemaker, a member of Mary's Chapel General Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Glaub-Lone Holly Extension Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her husband, Manuel Eaton of the home; two sons, John Earl Eaton of Greenbrier and Kenneth Eaton of Leachville; three daughters, Peggy Settlemoir of Sherwood, Carolyn Rippy of Rector and Sharon Gatewood of Bahrain; three brothers, Charlie Berry of Bakersfield, Calif., Ebert Berry of Flint, Mich., and Finis Berry of Jonesboro; three sisters, Lucy Ray of Campbell, Mo., Frances Beckley of Rector and Robilee Whitlock of Eugene, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rector First General Baptist Church, with Kenny Burns and Mark Book officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector. Irby Funeral Service of Rector is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Keith Settlemoir, Barry Settlemoir, Scott Eaton, Travis Eaton, Rob Johnson and Jeremy Johnson.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Rector First General Baptist Church.
 

John W. Eaton



PARAGOULD -- John W. Eaton, 77, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 16, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Texas, he was a graduate of Paragould High School, served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in France, and was retired from Williams Shade and Awning Co. in Memphis, where he worked as a salesman. He was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Eaton of Paragould; two sons, John Wayne Eaton of Keno, Ore., and Paul W. Eaton of Paragould; a daughter, Dottie Heaton of Southaven, Miss.; two granddaughters, Angela Naylor and Amy Heaton; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty L. Eaton, and his parents, John W. Sr. and Dean May Eaton.

The body was cremated under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Brown's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bono.

PARAGOULD -- Carolyn Louise Carmack, 71, of Paragould died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at her residence.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Jim Thresher and David Moseley officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Josh Copeland, Bob Hodge, Jason Hunn, Wade Taylor, Dewayne Frakes, Neal Cole and Steve Smoker.

Born in Paragould, she worked at the Ely and Walker Shirt Factory and was of the Methodist belief.

Survivors include one son, Stanley Carmack of Paragould; two daughters, Dr. Janet Crawford of Paragould and Jill Emmert of Walls, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Eva Brasher McLerkin.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Herschel Lee Rogers



RECTOR -- Herschel Lee Rogers, 82, of Rector died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at his home.

Born in Greene County, he was a farmer. A member of Cappadocia General Baptist Church, he was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include four brothers, Donald Rogers Sr. of Rector, D.M. Morris of Paragould and Herman Morris and Therman Morris, both of Cherokee Village; and two sisters, Rosezetta Sheffield of Belleview, Mo., and Louise Dowd of Moweaqua, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiliam Jackson and Cordie Jane Thrasher Rogers, three brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services are set for today at 2 p.m. at Rector First Baptist Church, with James Henry Dortch and Kenny Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway under the direction of Irby Funeral Home of Rector.

Pallbearers will be Donald Rogers Jr., Randy Rogers, Denver Sheffield, Bruce Sheffield, Dan Sheffield and Terry Rogers.

Honorary pallbearers will include the Senior Men's Sunday school class of Rector First General Baptist Church.
 

 

Steven Dale Eakins



BURLESON, Texas -- Steven Dale Eakins, 40, of Burleson, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, at a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

Born in Louisville, Ky., he was a graduate of Arkansas State University and the Dallas Police Academy. He worked with the Dallas Police Department for one year and served as senior patrol sergeant and field training officer with the Burleson Police Department for 13 years. He was named police officer of the year in that community in 1995.

Survivors include his mother, Inez Eakins of Marmaduke; four brothers, Larry Eakins of Indianapolis, Melvin Eakins of Mammoth Spring, Bruce Eakins of Paragould and Phillip Eakins of Roswell, Ga.; and three sisters, Linda Campbell of Marmaduke, Barbara Bonner of Granbury, Texas, and Diane Potter of Haslet, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Eakins.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Heath Funeral Home Colonial Chapel, with the Revs. Melvin York and David Poe officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery at Lafe.

Visitation will be from noon until time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

PARAGOULD -- Terry Eugene Cole, 70, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 20, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born in Rector, he was retired from the Navy and was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Cole of the home; two sons, Travis Cole of the home and Eric Cole of San Diego; one daughter, Sherrie Cole; and two sisters, Colleen Anderson of St. Louis and Mary Sanford of Marmaduke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lusky and Nellie Brott Cole.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery at Marmaduke, with the Rev. Bill Snow officiating. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

CORNING -- Janie Taylor, 84, of Corning died Thursday, Feb. 20, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.

Born at Sulligent, Ala., she was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Taylor of Paragould and James Taylor and David Taylor, both of Marshfield, Wis.; three daughters, Pat Stow and Frances Marie Wheat, both of Corning, and Betty Jean Holifield of Reyno; three brothers, Taylor Smith of Atlanta and Kelsie Smith and Girlie Smith, both of Alabama; two sisters, Ella Gertrude Smith and Elma Smith, both of Alabama; 57 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, France Taylor; two daughters, JoAnn DeArmon and Dixie Richmond; two sisters; and one brother.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould, with Troy Martin officiating. Ermert Funeral Home of Corning is in charge of arrangements.

PARAGOULD -- Leon Wells, 57, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 20, at his home.

Born in Blytheville, he was a Army veteran and a construction worker and was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wells of the home; a son, Richard Starbuck of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a daughter, Robin Wells of Charlotte, N.C.; his mother, Margaret Wells of Paragould; two brothers, Charles Wells of Pensacola, Fla., and Roy Wells of Blytheville; a sister, Catherine Barnes of Paragould; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Wells, and a brother.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God, with Bill Newman officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

RECTOR -- Leroy Thrasher, 81, of Rector died Friday, Feb. 21, in the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born in White Oak.

Survivors include one daughter, Deronda Presson of Rector; one sister, Veda Mae Caveness of Rector; one brother, Teddy Wayne Thrasher of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren, Tonia Williams of Acworth, Ga., Jennifer Cambron and Ryan Presson, both of Paragould; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Thrasher; four brothers, Delmer Thrasher, James Thrasher, Junior Thrasher and Denzil Thrasher; and one sister, Lois Mae Fielder.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the General Baptist Church in Rector, with Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers will be James Fielder, Ernest Vaughn, Alan Caveness, Kevin Terry, Dennis Wheeler and Bryan Thrasher.

Born in Marmaduke, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marmaduke.

Survivors include one son, Harold Weaver of St. Louis; one daughter, Mary Martin of Mount Morris; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

PARAGOULD -- Lisa Dianne Cochran, infant daughter of Delbert and Lisa Cochran of Paragould, died Saturday, Feb. 22, at her residence.

Survivors in addition to her parents include her paternal grandfather, Billy Cochran of Hot Springs; her paternal grandmother and step grandfather, Deliata and John Bookout of Alton, Mo.; and her maternal grandmother, Lissie Rice of Paragould.

Willard M. Cobb



Willard M. Cobb, 92, of Jonesboro died Sunday, Feb. 23, at Rose Skill Care Nursing Center.

Born in Marmaduke, she had lived in Jonesboro since 1925. She had been a bookkeeper and a teacher. She was a member of the Arkansas Study Group, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Highland Drive Christian Ladies Circle and a member of the Disciples of Christ Church.

Survivors include one son, Jim Carr of Rolla, Mo.; one sister, Robelen Thorne of Kennett, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Carr Cobb; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Drive Christian Church, with Vance Moore officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

PARAGOULD -- James Gladish, 69, of Paragould, died Monday, Feb. 24, at Regional Medical Center of NEA.
Graveside services  will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

David White will officiate. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Kermmit Burns, Paul Smith, Johnathan Mullins, Gary Smith, Brian Smith and Bryan Drennen.

Born in Paragould, he was a Marine Corps veteran who served in the Korean War. He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Mae Gladish of Paragould; two sons, Randy A. Gladish and Shawn O. Gladish, both of Paragould; one stepson, Michael Smith of Paragould; one stepdaughter, Marcella Archibald of Paragould; and three grandchildren, Tyler Smith of Paragould and Tiffany Bridges and Stephan Bridges, both of Lonoke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Audrey P. Beaver Gladish, and one brother.

PARAGOULD -- Lali Marion Boggs, 83, of Paragould died Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born in Brookland, she was a member of The Church at Paragould. She worked as a supervisor at Ed White Jr. Shoe Co. for 23 years before working as the manager of the Ely Walker Outlet Store.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Boggs of the home; one son, R.C. Boggs of Paragould; two grandchildren, Melissa Miller of Paragould and Anthony Boggs of Roswell, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Edith Price, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, with Bill Bass officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

David Hayes Hurd



SEARCY -- David Hayes Hurd, 50, of Searcy died Wednesday, Feb. 26.

He was born in Paragould and held a bachelor's degree in political science and electronics certification from Cleveland Institute of Technology. He was the director of video services for Harding University in Searcy, was an alumnus of Harding and was a member of the College Church of Christ in Searcy.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Rhodes Hurd of Searcy; two daughters, Amy Lynn Hurd of Houston, Texas, and Sally Ann Hurd of Searcy; his parents, Maurice and Eula Sanders Hurd of Paragould; two sisters, Elizabeth Mills of Manhattan, Kan., and Cara West of Walnut Ridge; and one brother, Tim Hurd of Paragould.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the College Church of Christ. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy.

William Albert McMinn



PARAGOULD -- William Albert McMinn, 58, of Paragould died Wednesday, Feb. 26, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Howard Funeral Service in Manila.

The Rev. William Piercy will officiate, and burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

Born in Memphis, he was a retired insurance salesman and a former Manila resident. He was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva McMinn of the home; a son, William Keith McMinn of Paragould; two brothers, Fred McMinn of Olive Branch, Miss., and Avery Cudd of House Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Sherry Bumann of House Springs and Susie Dickerson of Illinois; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Eddie Ray Short



Eddie Ray Short, 74, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Regional Medical Center of NEA.

He was born and reared in Walcott and attended Arkansas State University. He served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1973 as a chief petty officer. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1991, the Fleet Reserve and Woodmen of the World.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jennell Short of the home; two stepsons, Ronald Diggs of San Antonio and Mark Diggs of Little Rock; one brother, W.J. Short of Little Rock; one sister, Mary Adams of Walcott; and two stepgrandchildren, Doug Diggs of Little Rock and Hal Diggs of Fort Worth, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould, with the Revs. Chuck Coffelt and Bonnie Sutton officiating.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

PARAGOULD -- Vertie Marie Jetton, 90, of Paragould died Friday, Feb. 28, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

Born in Greene County, she was a homemaker and a member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ.

Survivors include three daughters, Gretta Pillow, Linda McClure and Betty Jetton, all of Paragould; four brothers, Laverne Barr of Flint, Mich., Maurice Barr and Hershel Barr, both of Paragould, and Harrison Barr of Memphis; two sisters, Azalee Turner of St. Louis and Argentine Malone of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Jetton.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, with James A. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
