Clarence Melvin Boone


MARMADUKE - Clarence Melvin Boone of Marmaduke died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was 89.
He was born Sept. 29, 1913, in Marmaduke. He was employed as a custodian for the Marmaduke School District. He was a longtime member and deacon of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by her parents, James and Thresa Boone; his first wife, Vivian Drope Boone; and three brothers, Vernon, Hollis and Arlon Boone.
Survivors include his wife, Piccola Boone of Paragould; a daughter, Melba Beaton of Marmaduke; two step-daughters, Shirley Jackson and Barbara Mullins, both of Paragould; a step-son, Bill "Buddy" Adams of Marmaduke; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Feb. 2, 2003, with Bro. Adrain Parker and Kim Bridges officiating. Burial followed in the Cudd Cemetery near Marmaduke.
Pallbearers were Dwight Vangilder, Joe Vangilder, Joe Max, Billy and Dewayne Boone and James Lindsey.
Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Shelby, Maurice Bateman, W.O. Layer, Bill Vandgilder and James Vangilder.

Paul Kenneth Bowman


PARAGOULD - Paul Kenneth Bowman of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at his residence. He was 67.
He was born Nov. 13, 1935, in Cumberland, Md. He was retired from SPX Contech in Dowagiac, Mich. He served in the United States Marine Corp.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Ray; his parents, Melvin and Aleatha Riggleman Bowman; three brothers, Gerald, Edward and Raymond Bowman; and five sisters, Edith Buset, Evelyn Hansford, Irma Devore, Dorothy Weisenmiller and Catherine Deiley.
Survivors include his wife, Evalene Bowman of the home; two sons, Eric Biggs and Paul Bowman, both of Niles, Mich.; three daughters, Cheryl Ashby of Dowagiac, Mich., Kimberly Ferguson of Paragould, and Christina Jankoviak of Niles, Mich.; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Ray of Clifton, Tenn.; two brothers, Gary and Melvin Bowman, both of Akron, Ohio; two sisters, Helen O'Toole and Pat Phillips, both of Cumberland, Md.; 23 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 6, 2003, at the Southside Church of God in Paragould with the Rev. David Shrabla officiating. Burial followed in the Cardwell Cemetery in Cardwell, Mo.
Pallbearers were Aleasha Ashby, DeAnna Ferguson, Luke Bowman, Jeremy Ashby, Amanda Bowman, Aaron Ferguson, Isaac Bowman, Heather Ray, Ashley Ray and Zachery Sauers.
Honorary pallbearers were Earl Wooldridge and John Lesniak.
Memorials made be made to St. Jude's Hospital.

Frank R. Church


SPRING LAKE, MICH. - Frank R. Church of Spring Lake, Mich., formerly of Pocahontas, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the North Ottawa Hospital in Grand Haven, Mich. He was 93.
He was born Nov. 7, 1909, in Pocahontas. He had lived in Michigan since 1953 and had been employed at Lappo Lumber for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a veteran who served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederick and Lillie (King) Church; his wife, Lillie Lillian Ddhoritey; three sons, Roy Elmo, Billy Wayne and Elbert Church; six sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include five sons, C.D. Church of Kentucky, Bedford Church of Colorado, Reuben Church of Illinois, Frederick Church of Spring Lake, Mich., and Albert Church of West Olive, Mich.; two daughters, Minnie Lee Schulte of Nunica, Mich., and Lillie Carter of Grand Haven, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro with R.W. Goodman officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

Elvis Roy Davidson


PARAGOULD - Elvis Roy Davidson of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was 83.
He was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Monette. He was a retired carpenter and of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Mary Davidson; and a sister, Lorene Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Alene (Akes) Davidson of the home; a son, Darrell Davidson of Paragould; three daughters, Shelvie Morris of Hoxie, Barbara Prince of Jonesboro, and Martha Ewing of Paragould; a brother, Boyd Davidson of Lake City; a sister, Pauline Parrish of Monette; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 5, 2003, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Kenny Crafton officiating. Burial followed in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Rodney James, Noel Fore, Donald Johnson, Bobby Boren, Tim, Skyler, Bo and Byron Stocker.

Sylvester Leon Edwards


MEMPHIS, TENN. - Sylvester Leon Edwards of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Ava Maria Nursing Home in Bartlett, Tenn. He was 89.
He was born Sept. 5, 1913, in Paragould. He was a retired truck driver. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and he was a veteran who served in the United States Marines. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Memphis, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jennie Edwards.
Survivors include a son, James Calvin Edwards of Memphis, Tenn.; three daughters, Alice Faye Clay of Albuquerque, N.M., Sally Howell of Cordova, Tenn., and Sharon Edwards of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Hurchel Edwards of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Virginia Swafford of Paragould; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Greene County Memorial Gardens with Jim Whitney officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeff Howell, Rick McDaniel, Don Purcell and Richard Honeycutt.

Viva Nell Farley


PARAGOULD - Viva Nell Farley of Paragould died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at his son's residence in Sullivan, Ill. He was 84.
She was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Beech Grove. He was a longtime resident of the Stanford community. She was a retired cook for the Stanford School District.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Otis Farley; her parents, Mack and Bessie Spicer Smith; a sister, Opal Spillman; and a brother, J.M. Smith.
Survivors include a son, Mark Farley of Sullivan, Ill.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two life-long friends, Inez Clark and Christina Martin, both of Paragould.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. Sam Stewart and the Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Burial followed in the Union Grove Cemetery, RFD Paragould.
Pallbearers were Thomas Bryant, Elwyn Shewmaker, Glenn Newberry, Alvin Miller, Frankie Pillow, Larry Faulkner. Tim Coggins was the alternate.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice in Springfield, Ill.

Dorris Sue Morrow


BEECH GROVE - Dorris Sue Morrow of Beech Grove died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her residence. She was 61.
She was born April 23, 1941, in Stanford. She was a retired social worker and former owner of Morrow's Grocery. She was a member of the Commissary Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Maudie Doughty Shaffer; and a brother, J.M. Shaffer.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Morrow of the home; two sons, Keith Morrow of Beech Grove and Mark Morrow of Jonesboro; a brother, Jones Shaffer of Hardy; a sister, Connie Gill of Beech Grove; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 4, 2003, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Phil Wilkerson, L.R. Smith and Darrell Austin officiating. Burial followed in the Morrow Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Rippy, Ted Spillman, Wes and Jeff Gill, Brad Clark and Allen Crosno.
Memorials may be made to St. Bernard's Hospice or the Children's Home of Paragould.

Ruby Gibson Millsaps


BONO - Ruby Gibson Millsaps of Bono died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Beverly Health & Rehabilitation Center in Jonesboro. She was 86.
She was born April 19, 1916, in Arkansas. She lived most of her life in Bono. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Hoxie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Millsaps; a son, Eugene Millsaps; and a brother.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Paul Millsaps of Bono and Charles J. Millsaps of San Pablo, Calif.; four daughters, Colleen Francis Adams of Jonesboro, Imogene Laverne Nibblett of Paducah, Ky., Marsha Harris of Temple, Ga., and Freda Goldie Stout of Oklahoma; a brother, J.C. Gibson of St. Louis, Mo.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 5, 2003, at the Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro with Rebecca Lapiro officiating. Burial followed in the Trinity Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Thompson, Phillip Brunson, Rick Burns, Scott Maronde, and Cecil and Bobby Moore.
Honorary pallbearers were the men of the congregation at the Church of Jesus Christ in Hoxie.

Cletes Wilburn Reagans


RECTOR - Cletes Wilburn Reagans of Rector died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was 67.
He was born July 9, 1935, in Mounds. He was employed with Lay's Trucking in California. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a brother, Wayne Reagans of Rector; and his mother, Della Morgan Russell of Rector.
Funeral services were held Jan. 31, 2003, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial followeddd in the Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
Pallbearers were Kelvin Reagans, Buel Cox, Tony Rowton, Darrell Smoot, Burnin Morgan, Steve Spicer and Randy Jackson.

Laverne Higgins Rowland


PARAGOULD - Laverne Higgins Rowland of Paragould died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was 89.
She was born Nov. 19, 1913, in the Spring Grove Township in Greene County. She was a retired waitress for Tony's Restaurant. She was a member of the 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Lula Higgins; four brothers, Homer, Dexter, Ledgar and G.I. Higgins; and three sisters, Billie Coates, Sally Johnson and Opal Burton.
Survivors include five nephews, Bruce Higgins of Memphis, Tenn., David Higgins of Pompano Beach, Fla., Dan Higgins, Bill Burton and Mark Coates, all of Paragould; a niece, Bonnie Wright of Paragould; two grand-nephews, Scott Wright of Paragould and William Higgins of Pompano Beach, Fla.; three grand-nieces, Lisa Dickinson and Tracy Higgins, both of Paragould, and Melanie Higgins of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a great-grand-nephew; and a great-grand-niece.
Graveside services were held Jan. 31, 2003, at Linwood Cemetery with Art Smith officiating.

Otis Dewain Stevens


JONESBORO - Otis Dewain Stevens of Jonesboro died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was 62.
He was born Oct. 10, 1940, in Trumann. He lived in Jonesboro for 15 years. He was formerly of Harrisburg. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. He was of the Baptist belief.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Stevens.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Stevens of the home; five sons, Kenneth Stevens of Dover, David Stevens of Memphis, Tenn., James Beatty of Lawton, Okla., Paul andd David Beatty, both of Jonesboro; three daughters, Debra Blaylock and Sandy Williams of Memphis, Tenn., and Amanda Blankenship of Jonesboro, three brothers, Johnny Stevens of St. Louis, Mo., and Jerry and Larry Stevens, both of Harrisburg; a sister, Earlene Davis of Ola; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Troy Prince officiating.

Irene G. Williams


PARAGOULD - Irene G. Williams of Paragould died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was 82.
She was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Senath, Mo. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Williams; a son, Leon Williams; and her parents, Andrew and Bertha Dalton.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Cude of Hoxie, Glenda Hanks of Lafe, and Sue Wells of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Fredia Jackson of Arbyrd, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1, 2003, at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. Buster Morris and the Rev. Royce Schanda officiating. Burial followed in the LuLu Cemetery in Senath, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the Little Rock Children's Home.
