Marslee Virginia McDonald

Marslee Virginia McDonald, 79, of Paragould died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born at Walcott, she was a homemaker and a member of Walcott Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James McDonald, and her parents, J.B. "Boss" and Lilly Montgomery Collins.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. today in Mount Zion Cemetery near Walcott, with the Rev. Tom Elliott officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

No visitation is planned.

Vivian Maxine Clark

Vivian Maxine Clark, 79, of Paragould, died Friday, February 4, 2005, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was born November 1, 1925, in Lafe, the daughter of the late Byron and Dolly Manley McDonald. 

She and her husband, the late Tom Clark, were the owners and operators of Paragould Moving and Storage. 

She was a member of East Main Church of Christ. Her two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Stickel of Niceville, Florida and Dodty Highfill of Paragould; son, Larry Clark of Paragould; sisters, Darlena Matheny of Paragould, Doris Holt of Blytheville and Nita Williams of Fenton, Missouri; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, 2:00 P.M. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Herbert Starr officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 tonight at Heath Funeral Home.

Ruthie B. Cole

Ruthie B. Cole, 89, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at her residence.

Born at Paragould, she was a housekeeper at Home for the Golden Years and was of the Church of God belief.

Survivors include two sons, Verlon Cole and Wilborn Cole, both of Paragould; five daughters, Valrew Swan, Ruth Cole and Rachel Hay, all of Paragould, Sue Cox of Little Rock and Brenda Waddle of Austin, Texas; one sister, Ellan Applewhite of California; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Cole, her parents, four sons, two daughters, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Jesse Dollars officiating. Burial will be in Finch Cemetery at Paragould.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Heart Foundation and Finch Cemetery.

Harvie B. Fielder

Harvie B. Fielder, 85, of Bono died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at NEA Medical Center.

Born in Fontaine, he lived most of his life in Bono, where he farmed. He was a veteran of World War II and received the victory, American theater and AP theater ribbons; a good conduct medal; and a bronze service star.

He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Beck Fielder of the home; two daughters, Barbara Gray of Paragould and Debbie Barnett of Bono; and three grandchildren, Blake Gray, Derek Barnett and Dylan Barnett.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Hattie Fielder; a son, David Fielder; and a grandson.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home chapel, with Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jerry Fielder, Keith Fielder, Tom Fielder, Barry Fielder, Lawrence Fielder and Brian Fielder.

Honorary pallbearers will include Robin Rhea, Richard Nutt, Benny Martin, Bud Craft, Bud Myers, Ron Fielder, Rick Fielder and J. S. Fielder.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Robert Clark Colley

Robert Clark Colley, 61, of Marmaduke, died Sunday, February 6, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born April 10, 1943, in Hazelwood, Missouri, Mr. Colley retired from Emerson Electric Transportation. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Vera Garnell Colley of Marmaduke; two sons, Robert Clark Colley, Jr. and wife, Lana, of Norfork, Arkansas, John Colley and wife, Anna of Paragould; and one daughter, Cindy Colley Carroll of Paragould. He is also survived by two sisters, Diane Otterman of Fontana, California, Shirley Gaertner of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; and by two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Omega Colley and by a half-brother, Raymond Williams.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral service will be 11:00 Thursday morning, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Josh Harris, Eric Weaver, Joseph William Gage, Terry Gonzer, Daniel Hill and Caleb Pitcher.

Evelyn Cooper

Evelyn Cooper, 74, of Paragould died February 5, 2005 at her home in Paragould. She was born October 20, 1930 in St. Clairesville, Ohio the daughter of the late Charles and Ellen Rinker Lash. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Lash. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and was retired from the quality control department at Sunlight.

She is survived by daughters: Gena Smith of Mountain Home and Linda Hill of Blytheville; sons: Paul Cooper and Butch Cooper both of Paragould; grandchildren, Dustin Hicks, Jonathan Hill, Amber Cooper, Amy Jarrett, Hayden Cooper, Jillian Cooper, Keith Smith; sisters, Charlotte Grant and Patty Moore both of Jacobsburg, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 10th at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Michael Sutton officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home.

Oliver  Garner

Oliver (Al) Garner, 71, of Paragould died February 4, 2005 at Dallas VA Medical Center.

Born in Beech Grove, Arkansas, he was a retired carpenter.

He is survived by his 7 children: Tammy Clark, and Kim Cox, of Paragould, Mike Clark of Jonesboro, Kathy McMillian, Novella Ussery, Jerry Clark, and Don Clark all of Paragould. 1 sister, Sevada Lewis of Terrell, Texas. 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Clark Garner, his parents, Millard and Annis Garner, 3 brothers, Jack Devain, Pershing, and Wilbert Garner and 1 sister Nesbeay Wheeler. His final resting place will be at New Friendship Cemetery.

To honor his wishes, there will be no visitation and no memorial service.

Earl Franklin Hoggard

Earl Franklin Hoggard, 82, of Paragould died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at St. Bernard's Medical Center of Jonesboro.

Born in Sharp County, he had worked for the City of LaPorte, IN., had been a farmer in the Milligan Ridge area and was a member of the Church of God at LaPorte.

Survivors include a son, Marvin E. Hoggard of Paragould; a daughter, Earlene Shrable of Paragould; two sisters, Nona Mitton of Buchanan, Mich., and Florence V. Adams of Wheatfield, Ind.; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maple Ruby Hoggard; his parents, Cecil and Julie Hennessee Hoggard; three sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Marty Russell and the Rev. Ryan Shrable officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Bernard's Medical Center or to a charity of the donor's choice.

H. Francis Bland

H. Francis Bland, Jr., 86, of Paragould, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center of Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on August 25, 1918, in Paragould to Herbert and Alvina Bland. He was a 1936 graduate of Paragould High School and Hendrix College in 1940 with a degree in chemistry.

Francis helped start a Little League program in 1951 and was the first coach, started a Babe Ruth program in 1954, Rotary Club "Citizen of the Year" in 1954, President of Paragould Rotary Club 1954-55, Paragould School Board 1954-1964 and was board president, President of Arkansas Soft Drink Association in 1956, Chairman of Eight-Mile Creek flood control program since 1974, "Spirit of America" award winner from Crowley's Ridge College in 1983, Kiwanis Club "Citizen of the Year" 1989, Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society President 1994-95, Paragould-Greene County Chamber of Commerce "Lifetime Member" award 1996, Dr Pepper Bottlers' Association Board of Directors, Parks and Recreation Commission Founding Member and Chairman, Sunday School teacher and board member First United Methodist Church. Eight-Mile Creek was re-named "Francis Bland Floodway" in November 1999; Bland was voted into the Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in January 2000. He helped raise funds and build new baseball and softball parks in Paragould, with the parks being named "Francis Bland Community Baseball Parks." He was chairman and president of Mellow Moon Bottling Company of Paragould known as 7-Up-RC.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie Landrum Bland, whom he married on July 9, 1941, of the home, 2 daughters, Donna Williams of Crossett, AR, and Denise Bednar of Frankfort, IL, 2 sons, Herb and John Bland both of Paragould, sister, Mary Lou Williams of Paragould, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Francis Bland, Sr. and Alvina Poppe Bland, brother, Bob Bland.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Revs. David Moseley and Joel Cooper, who is a childhood friend since the 9th grade, officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery. The family request that memorials be made to the Lipscomb Room of the Greene County Library, First United Methodist Church or the charity of the giver's choice.

James "Jay" Thomas

James "Jay" Thomas, 76, of Paragould, died Tuesday, February 8th, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born March 30, 1928, in Paragould, Mr. Thomas was an Air Force veteran of Korea and a retired factory worker.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Thomas and wife, Sheila, of Palmdale, California, Bob Thomas of Port Hueneme, California, Steve Thomas of Cuba, Missouri; and one daughter, Cheryl Bryan of Paragould. He is also survived by one sister, Jean Walker of Cardwell, Missouri; six grandchildren; and by five great grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Reba Maxine Thomas; one son, James Perry Thomas, Jr.; one daughter, Diana Jean McGrath; his mother, Annie Almira Hyde Thomas; his father, James Ollie Thomas; and by two brothers, Henry "Peck" Thomas and Billy Joe Thomas.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, at the Finch Cemetery with Royce Boling officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 Friday evening at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. The funeral procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:10 P.M., Saturday. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4556 of Pocahontas.

Junior Eugene George

Funeral services for Junior Eugene George, 70, of Paragould, who died Thursday, Feb. 10, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel.

The Rev. Rick George, the Rev. Ronnie England, the Rev. Scott Voss and the Rev. Rick Ethridge will officiate. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Bailey, Eric McLain, Stevie Mitchell, Steve Mitchell, Matt Newberry and Gary Ragsdale.

Born at O'Kean, he was a truck driver, had worked as a police officer and was also a former employee of Heath Funeral Home. He was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Annell Edgar George of Paragould; six sons, Chris George of Paragould, Mike Craft of Memphis, Timothy George of Fort Smith, the Rev. Ronnie George England of Rogersville, Tenn., Johnny George of Virginia Beach, Va. and the Rev. Rick George of Peru, Ind.; two daughters, Gena DeRoe and Lana Colvin, both of Paragould; three brothers, Howard George of Taylor, Mich., Leland George of Monterey, Tenn., and Robert Moore of Tullahoma, Tenn.; a sister, Joyce Gurule of Vancouver, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John George and Beatrice Moore.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Research Hospital.

Wayne Johnson

Graveside funeral services for 70-year-old Wayne Johnson of Paragould, who died February 9th, 2005, will be today at 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Gardens at Paragould. Irby Funeral Home of Rector in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by: his wife, Betty of the home: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve and Melissa Johnson and Ricky Johnson, all of Paragould: a brother, Bud Johnson of Paragould: four grandchildren: Erika, Matthew, Tiffany and Brandon. John W. Nicholas

John W. "Bob" Nicholas, 84, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born in Marmaduke, he was owner and operator of Nicholas Auto Salvage. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Paragould Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2242.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Barnett of Plano, Texas; a brother, Denver Nicholas of Florida; two sisters, Willodean Brewer of Hardy and Freda LaCastro of Paragould; one half sister, Minerva Brightwell of Marmaduke; a granddaughter, Sydney Tarvin; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willodene Wilkinson Nicholas; his parents, A.M. and Rena Dickinson Nicholas; a brother; and a half-brother.

Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. today at New Friendship Cemetery. Burial will be under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Gale Brewer, Keith Holifield, Max Thompson, Van Booth, Stan Booth and Jimmy Tedder.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Legion.

Mabel M. Pennington Francway

Graveside services for Mabel M. Pennington Francway, 83, of Lake City, who died Friday, Feb. 11, at her residence, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Pine Log Cemetery near Brookland.

Leon Harvey will officiate and arrangements are under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Born at the Light community in Greene County, she grew up in Leachville and lived most of her life in the Lake City area. She was a retired saleswoman for Sears in Jonesboro and was of the Baptist faith.

There are no immediate survivors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Francway, and her parents, Samuel and Julie Sturkie Pennington.

Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home in Jonesboro.

Freeda E. Ray

Freeda E. Ray, 77, of Paragould died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Born at Guy, she was a homemaker and member of Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Lloyd Calvin Ray of Paragould; one daughter, Freeda Mae Ray Dixon of Paragould; one brother, J.W. Frost of Paragould; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Ray; her parents, Elmer and Rose Rogers; a brother; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with Larry McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery at Paragould.

Pallbearers will include Jason Dixon, Danny Hart, David Hart, Charles Meeker, Kevin Grooms, Doug Bailey and Junior Frost.

Viola Long Sims Couch

Viola Long Sims Couch, 95, formerly of Paragould, died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Oak Meadow Manor, Perryville, Missouri.

Born February 25, 1909, in Enid, Oklahoma, to William and Anna Long, she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Paragould.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Sims of Perryville, Missouri, and Robert Eugene Sims of Oklahoma. She is also survived by one brother, J.W. "Bud" Long, and one sister, Velma Haddock, both of Paragould; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and by three great-great-grandchildren Mrs. Couch was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Doss Sims; her second husband, Jeff Couch; one son, Carl D. Sims; two daughters, Marcella Sims, and Glendola Boswell; five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Scott Neathery officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. today at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

MaLinda Cherie Higginbottom

MaLinda Cherie Higginbottom, 32, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at her residence.

Born at Paragould, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include three sons, Josh Sherbrick, Wesley Shipman and Jacob Howell; her parents, Herbert and Debbie Higginbottom of Paragould; her grandmother, Loreta Owen of Paragould; and her fiance, Rebel Howell of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Lisa Higginbottom; and her grandparents, L.H. "Blue" Owen and Herbert Ray and Imogene Tyner Higginbottom.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today in Shiloh Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Snow officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be DeLane Owen, Darwin Owen, Bobby Ward, Gordon Kilgore, Aaron Harmon and Jose Rodrigez.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Home of Paragould.

Ronald J. Smith

Ronald J. Smith, age 51, of Beech Grove, AR died Friday, February, 4, 2005, at his home.

A native of Granite City, Ill, he moved to Beech Grove and later to Paragould in 1992.

Attended the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors: one son, Lonnie Gene Smith of Granite City, Ill.; one daughter, Joyce Ann Smith of Granite City, Ill.; one brother, Gary Lee Smith of Seneca, Mo.; two sisters, Patsy Osborne of Light, Ark., Carolyn Kay Goodwin of Walcott, Ark. All services will be private with Emerson's of Jonesboro in charge.

Margaret Ellen Greener

Margaret Ellen Greener, 89, of St. Charles, Missouri, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, February 13, 2005, at her residence.

A homemaker, Mrs. Greener was born November 7, 1915, in Walcott, Arkansas to Joseph and Carrie Slatton. She was a member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church of St. Louis.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Trennis Durham of Zeeland, Michigan, Brenda and Ronald Rosenburg of St. Charles, Missouri; two sisters, Wilma Creel of St. Louis, Missouri and Bessie Williams of Bakersfield, California. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Kelly Stephens and husband of Jerry of Zeeland, Michigan; and by two great grandsons, Thomas and Joseph Stephens of Zeeland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Greener; her parents, two brothers, two sisters and one grandchild. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., today, at the Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Norman Elledge officiating. Burial will follow in the Finch Cemetery.

Constance LaFaye Thorne

Constance LaFaye Thorne, 77, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, in the Senath Nursing Home at Senath, Mo.

Born at Trumann, she was a retired teacher and librarian at Marmaduke Elementary School. She also served as a librarian at Greene County Tech. She received a master's degree in library science from Arkansas State University and was a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Larry Thorne of Austin, Texas; one half brother, Danny Brashers of Ferguson, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Thomas Thorne and Billy Thorne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn "Bill" Thorne; her parents, Robert and Elva Mahan Brashers; two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould, with Duane Dutka officiating. Burial will be in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery at Marmaduke.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to a local library.

Newell Dewayne Combs

Newell Dewayne Combs, 62, of Paragould died Monday, February 14, 2005, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. He was born May 12, 1942, in Paragould, the son of the late Tas and Pearl Tyner Combs.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Hester. He was retired from the Arkansas Highway Department as a purchasing agent and was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Paragould.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Combs of the home; sons, Rodney Combs, Sean Combs, and Brandon Rose; brother, Jim Combs, grandchildren, Jacob, Matthew and Allie Combs, all of Paragould. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1:00 P.M. at East Side Baptist Church with Reverends Jim Fowler, Greg Addison and Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home. Pallbearers: J.W. Dial, Jack Bishop, Frank Guinn, Ed Chunn, Ron Pigue, Jr., David Pigue. Honorary Pallbearer, Mickey Cooper.

Mary Lou Cupp

Mary Lou Cupp, 68, of Light, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was born July 26, 1936, to the late Trumann and Ida Pratt. She and her late husband, James Michael Cupp, operated Vance Cupp & Sons Grocery and Station in Light from 1962 until 2002.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Jesse Hancock of Light and Kellie and Allen Blake of Paragould; a grandson, Michael Williams and his wife, Christie; a granddaughter, Mackenzie Fisher and her husband, Matt; grandsons, Jeffery and Jordan Blake; and three great-grandchildren, Brianna Williams, Clayton Williams and William James Fisher, all of Paragould. She is also survived by sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Arel "Tuff" Garner of Henderson, Arkansas and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Patty Pratt of Light. She was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cupp was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Cupp; her parents, Trumann and Ida Pratt; and by a sister, Barbara Droke. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17th, at the Light Baptist Church under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Brother Raymond Atwood, pastor, will officiate. Rev. C. Waymon Hollis

A memorial service for the Rev. C. Waymon Hollis, 68, of Cherokee Village, who died Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Fulton County Hospital of Salem, was Feb. 17 at Cherokee Village United Methodist Church.

Sam Teague and Ron Burham officiated. Burial was under the direction of Heath Oak Hill Chapel of Hardy.

Born in Paragould, he retired after 48 years as a Methodist minister.

Survivors include his wife, Linda D. Hollis of Cherokee Village; a daughter, Kim Barton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two sons, Curtis W. Hollis of Newport and Chris Hollis of Bonham, Texas; two brothers, John B. Hollis of Paragould and Joel Hollis of Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Reba Boone of Paragould; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Murry Hollis and Cornell Bird Hollis.

Visitation followed the service.

Kenneth Marce Eaker

Kenneth Marce Eaker, 74, of Paragould, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

An Army veteran and retired construction worker, Mr. Eaker was born in Paragould, November 17, 1930.

Survivors include one brother, A.L. Eaker; and two sisters, Reba Eaker and Betty Johnson, all of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola Eaker; four brothers, Wilbert, Wiley, Fred and Galen Eaker; and by a sister, Freda Eaker. Funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m., graveside, at Greene County Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. Chad Wagner will officiate. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:45 a.m.

There will be no public visitation.

Verneal Lucy Hots Horne

Verneal Lucy Hots Horne, 81, formerly of Paragould, died Friday, February 18, 2005, at Cedar Ridge Health Care in Lebanon, Ill.

She was born in Beech Grove and was a life long resident of Greene County.

Mrs. Horne is survived by three daughters: Brenda Routh of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Linda Boydstun of O'Fallon, Illinois, and Sandra Reddick of Paragould; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Ada Mae Jumper of Cordova, Tennessee; two brothers, Jim Cole of Jonesboro and Darrell Cole of El Dorado.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Ellis Hots, and her second husband, Verlous Horne. Mrs. Horne was a member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ. Visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-5 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with burial following in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mary Agnes Smith

Mary Agnes Smith, 75, of Paragould, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the Greene Acres Nursing Home. Mrs. Smith was born on August 8, 1929, in Marmaduke, Arkansas; she was a homemaker and a member of the Eastside Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son: Gregory Smith of Paragould, one brother: Robert Jordan of Paragould, one sister: Betty Cole of Hayti, Missouri, and one sister-in-law: Brenda Jordan of Paragould, Arkansas.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by: her parents, O.M. and Annie Mary Jordan, her husband: Eugene Smith, and one brother: Jerry Jordan. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating; burial will follow at the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. today at the Mitchell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be: Bob Morris, Bill Rowland, Les Ward, R.D. Bateman, Buford Adams, Bob Parks and Willis Robinson.

Avalon Vergie Wrinkle

Avalon Vergie “Ava” Wrinkle, age 67, of Marmaduke, died Saturday, February 19, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. She was born November 12, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri the daughter of the late Virgil and Vettrus Cooley Stone. Her brother, Howard Stone, sister, Rosemary Underwood and one grandchild, B.J. Tuberville, also preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and of Baptist belief.

She is survived by her husband Harold Wrinkle of the home; daughter, Dorothy Wallace of Marmaduke; sons, Howard Tuberville of Paragould, William Tuberville and Bruce Wallace of Marmaduke; step children: Eugene Wrinkle, Gail Wrinkle, Rhonda Herrmann, Tabitha Sherrod; sister, Delores Roche' of Bullhead, Arizona; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, one step great grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. tonight at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at Providence Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with Reverend David White, Reverend Don Clayton and Reverend James Swafford officiating. Leola Juanita Rogers

Leola Juanita Rogers, 82, of Paragould died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at Rector Health Care.

Born in Paragould, she was a former saleswoman for Gregory Hardware and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Bomar of Paragould; a sister, Charlene Newman of Norcross, Ga.; two grandchildren, Carissa Mangrum and Michael Bomar, both of Paragould; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daulton Rogers; her parents, James O. Campbell and Arizona Sanders Campbell; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Max Gregory and the Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Pallbearers will be Bufford Adams, Larry Beliew, Jack Cox Sr., Bill Oliver, Joe Reeves and Bill Rowland.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thaddeus Ray Allen

Thaddeus Ray Allen, 59, of Minturn died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care System at Little Rock.

Born at Minturn, he was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Ray Allen of Florida, Thomas Allen and Monty Allen, both of Knob Knoster, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Sherry Moore of Hoxie; four brothers, William Allen of Paragould, Ernest Allen of Minturn, Tommy Allen of Greers Ferry and Carlos Allen of Bismarck; four sisters, Georgial Freet, Glendola Wilson and Shelby Bates of Hot Springs and Frances Whales of Clover Bend; two stepsisters, Patsy Stocberry and Joyce Tauttlebaum of Jonesboro; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Allen and Lillie Simms Allen; one brother; one sister; and his stepmother.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Linwood Cemetery, with William F. Allen Jr. officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home, with full military honors bestowed by the Promberger-Trow Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4556 of Pocahontas.

Grover William Masterson

Grover William Masterson, 78, of Paragould died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

A native of Rector, he was a senior engineer for the Timex Corp., of the Baptist belief and an Army veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Gary W. Masterson of Louisville, Ky., and Greg Masterson of Watertown, Conn.; two sisters, Nadyne Attebery of Hemet, Calif., and Evelyn Thurman of Paragould; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Martin Masterson; his second wife, Elwanda Melton Masterson; his parents, William A. and Dora Ward Masterson; and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Heath Funeral Home's Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Masterson, Melissa Masterson, Gary Masterson and Greg Masterson.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Bryan Wilson Gay

Bryan Wilson Gay, 85, of Paragould died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at his residence.

An Army veteran, he was a former superintendent at Crowley's Ridge State Park and worked for the state Department of Parks and Tourism in Little Rock.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Butler of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Ned Gay of Mayfield, Ky.; a sister, Oma Gay of Phoenix; and two granddaughters, Jill Long of Paducah, Ky., and Shelly Cross of Newnan, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Smith Gay; his parents, Carol and Lula Bell Franz Gay; four brothers; and five sisters.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Linwood Cemetery, with the Rev. David Moseley and the Rev. Zach Roberts officiating. Heath Funeral Home of Paragould is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 1:30-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Jimmy Dewayne Stafford

Jimmy Dewayne Stafford, 28, of Walcott, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at St. Bernard's Medical Center of Jonesboro. He was born in Searcy.

Surviving are his father and mother, Jimmy Ray Stafford and Paulette Chappell Stafford of Walcott; a sister, April Crow of Bono; and his grandmother, Dorothy Stafford of McCrory.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Clifton Stafford and Paul and Ruby Chappell.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott, with the Rev. Stacy Prater officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Marjorie McIntire

Marjorie Knoveline Amos McIntire, 66, of Bono died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at her home

A native of Walnut Ridge, she was a retired LPN and of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include her husband, A.C. McIntire; two sons, Alex Witcher of Bono and Robert McIntire of Black Rock; five daughters, Nancy Witcher of Moody, Mo., Kathleen Witcher Smith of Bono and Ginger McIntire Spurlock, Gina McIntire Cupp and Girane McIntire, all of Jonesboro; a sister, Marie Amos Hoffman of Westland, Mich.; two brothers, Willard Amos of Pocahontas and David Amos of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Isom and Bertha Amos, and a brother.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro, with the Rev. Paul Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Walcott.

Active pallbearers will be Rick Smith, Bill McIntire, Bobby Cupp, Rick Amos, Tim Scrape and David Specking.

Scott Wooldridge will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. and until service time today at the funeral home.

Marilyn Ann Bradley

Marilyn Ann Bradley, 65, Paragould, died Saturday, February 26, 2005, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was born April 28, 1939, the daughter of the late Elbert Hayes and Virginia Collins. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Markham; and great-grandchild Brittany Maynard.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Bradley of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law: Pauline and Bruce Reilly of Commerce, Michigan; Lena and Mike McClellan, Tina and Kenny Maynard, all of Paragould; sons: Robert J. and Loretta Bradley of Belmont, Mississippi; Tony and Lisa Bradley of Paragould; sisters: Bonnie Carlyle of Niles, Michigan, Connie Venema of Paragould, Donna Thornton of Coleman, Alabama, Dorothy Alverson of Guntersville, Alabama; brothers: Arthur Collins, Jr. of Houston, Texas, Dave Collins of Paragould; mother, Virginia Collins of Paragould; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was an adopted mother to many kids.

Funeral service will be at Heath Colonial Chapel at 11:00 a.m. today, March 1, 2005, with Father John Marconi officiating. The body will be cremated.

Michael Alan Mobley

Michael Alan Mobley of Rector, Arkansas, was born March 6, 1953 in Paragould, Arkansas, and departed this life on February 28, 2005 at 51 years of age in Jonesboro, Arkansas, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

Preceding him in death is his mother, Alice Maxine Mobley. He is survived by his father, Bill Mobley of Rector, Arkansas, and his loving wife, Julie Mobley of the home, and three children, his son, William Garrett Mobley of the home, and daughter Jenna Mobley also of the home, and his daughter Sheila Adams of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

He is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn and Tim Carter of Rector, Arkansas, Margaret and Larry Baldwin of Mayfield, Kentucky, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday March 2nd, 2005, at the Fifth & Pine Church of Christ in Rector with Ken Roden and Willie Sandlin officiating. Visitation will be this evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM also at the Church. Burial will be in the Woodland Heights Cemetery of Rector, Arkansas. Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector, Arkansas, in charge of arrangements.

James Lee Dunkin Sr.

James Lee Dunkin Sr., 64, of Paragould died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at his residence.

Born in Fresno, Calif., he had worked as a mechanic for the Ford Motor Co.

Survivors include a son, James Lee Dunkin Jr. of Paragould; three daughters, Linda Robinson, Kathy Greenwood and Marsha Holmes, all of Hanford, Calif.; a sister, Edna Duncan of Judsonia; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

No services are planned. The body will be cremated under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Everett Doyle "Rip" Matheny


Everett Doyle "Rip" Matheny, 75, of St. Peter's, MO, died Feb. 28, 2005, at Barnes Hospital.

Born at Knob,  May 24, 1929 in Clay County, to George and Burley Matheny, they preceded him in death.

Mr. Matheny is a veteran of the Korean War.


Survivors include, his wife, Adilene, daughter and Son-In-Law: Jackie and Greg Maciekowicz, grandson Gregory.
three brothers, Arvel, James, and Wayne, and one sister   Dorothy Whitworth all of Paragould.

Services will be Saturday March 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peters, MO. The body will be cremated.

Burial will follow in  St. Louis, MO on Tuesday March 8th.
