Randy Dale Doe, 52, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 11, 1951, in Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Fry.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Lynn Doe of O'Fallon, Mo.; and one brother, Larry Doe of O'Fallon.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Pruett's Chapel Cemetery with Charles Stoddard officiating and under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the procession to leave for the service at 1:45 p.m.

Mary Alice Vaden Everett

Mary Alice Vaden Everett, 71, of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at her home.

She was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Hamburg. She had retired after 25 years with Emerson Electric Company and was a member of Third Avenue Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Amy Vaden; one brother, Bill Vaden; and one sister, Margie Wright.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby J. Everett, Sr., of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Rhonda Everett and Bobby Jr. and Yvonne Everett, all of Paragould, and Roger and Cindy Everett of Pocahontas; one daughter, Suzanne Everett of Paragould; Bo Martin of Paragould; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Betty Vaden of Searcy, James and Charlene Vaden of Harrisburg, Johnny and Dorothy Vaden of Mountain Home, Robert and Trish Vaden of Crown Pointe, Ind., and Doug and Joyce Vaden, of St. Charles, Ill.; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lottie Mae and Spiral Crisler of Pangburn, Amy Lorraine Gay of Searcy, Shirley and Grady Elliott of Pearland, Texas, Martha and Tab Gates of Quitman and Carolyn Vaden Griffin of Paragould; two grandsons, Jesse Everett and his wife, Michelle, and Richard Everett and his wife, Cindy, all of Paragould; two granddaughters, LaTasha Moore and Robin Everett, both of Pocahontas; four great-granddaughters; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today at Pruetts Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Lee officiating and under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers are her nephews, Wesley Yeager, Thomas Vaden, Danny Vaden, Sam Crisler, Michael Wright, David Crisler and Donnie Gay.

Honorary pallbearer is her nephew, Bill Wright.

Visitation was from 6 until 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The procession will leave the funeral home for the service at 2:30 p.m. today.

Fairy Bell Forehand

Fairy Bell Forehand, 78, of Corning, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

She was born July 25, 1925, in Delaplaine. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Elsie Young Forehand; three brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include one sister, Lola Cottle of Corning; one sister-in-law, Mary Forehand of O'Kean; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with the Rev. Betty Williams officiating. Burial will be in Pirtle Cemetery under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Howard R. Goodman

Howard R. Goodman died Friday, Jan. 3, 2004, in Paragould.

He was a veteran of World War II and a survivor of the Omaha Beach Invasion of Normandy, France. He was also a retired UAW worker for General Motors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Koster Goodman.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Brenda Goodman; one daughter, Donna Paul Bereyso; and three grandchildren, Greg Goodman, Steven Bereyso and Jamie Bereyso.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander Funeral Home of St. Ann, Mo.. Entombment will be in Mt. Lebanon Mausoleum under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday.

Leon Wilford Russom

Leon Wilford Russom, 69, of Knobel, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Paragould.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

 

Homer Alvis Craver

Homer Alvis Craver, 85, of Paragould, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, Tenn.

He was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Union City, Tenn. He was an Army veteran, a tank driver in World War II, the retired owner of Craver Hardware Co. and a former employee of Fisher Lime and Cement in Little Rock. He was a former member of Paragould Lions Club and an avid golfer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Craver; his parents, Homer and Carrie Welch Craver; and two brothers, Roy E. Craver and Raymond W. Craver.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Hettye Sue and Dr. William M. Bridger of Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Evelyn May Craver Fuzzell of Union City, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Lisa Richardson of Montgomery, Ala., and Lara Bridger of Raleigh, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Anna Beatrice Richardson, Susanna Lauren Richardson, and Camilla Sinclair Richardson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Jeff Rainwater officiating.

Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers are Travis Moore, Mickey Bridger, Chuck Richardson, Joe Wessell, Bob Branch and Wilburn Smith.

Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elsie Cuerden

 

Elsie Cuerden, 83, of Paragould, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Preston, England. She was a homemaker and attended the Congregational Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cuerden.

Survivors include three sons, Harry Cuerden of Glen Mills, Pa., Brian Cuerden of Tucson, Ariz., and Allen Cuerden of Moorpark, Calif.; three grandchildren, Neil Cuerden and Jamie Cuerden, both of Glen Mills, Pa., and Adam Cuerden of Edinburgh, Scotland.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Jeff Rainwater officiating and under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Mary L. Daniels

Mary L. Daniels, 33, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Sept. 27, 1970, in Paragould.

She was a homemaker and attended Seventh and Mueller Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola Cobb; and one brother, Larry Cobb.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Daniels of the home, one stepson, Tim Daniels of Paragould; three daughters, Jessica Turner, Rebecca Turner and Amanda Turner, all of Paragould; two stepdaughters, Kay Daniels and Nikki Daniels, both of Paragould; her father, Leroy Cobb of Lafe; one brother, James Cobb of Lafe; and three sisters, Julie Cobb and Janet Masterson, both of Marmaduke, and Linda Grady of Paragould.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Knot Church of Christ with Larry McFadden and Topper Killough officiating.

Burial was at Pine Knot Cemetery near Paragould under the direction Irby Funeral Home.

Jacqueline Hart Fitzgerald Hopkins

Jacqueline Hart Fitzgerald Hopkins, 78, of Woburn, Mass., formerly of Paragould, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Lexington Health Care Center in Lexington, Mass.

She was born in Paragould, but lived many years in Woburn.

She was a graduate of Paragould High School and a retired project analyst for Hanscom Air Force Base in Lexington.

She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Dean Hopkins.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela R. Curtin of Woburn; two grandsons, Joel and Jeremy Curtin; and one great-grandchild, Andrew Joel Curtin.

Funeral and visitation are private and under the direction of Lane Funeral Home of Winchester, Mass.

Jewel T. Duckworth

Jewel T. Duckworth, 76, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of the Rector area, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz.

He was born April 15, 1927, in Clay County and was an entrepreneur. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lizzie Adams Duckworth; and two brothers, Byron Duckworth and J.D. Duckworth.

Survivors include one son, Tom Duckworth of Marble Falls, Texas; one daughter, Marlene Rausch-Burriell of Chandelor, Ariz., one sister-in-law, Frances Duckworth of Rector; and two grandchildren, Keaton Duckworth and Adam Burriel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Kenny Burns officiating.

Burial will be at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector under the direction of Irby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Dwayne Moore, Ronnie Curtis, Steve Curtis, Tom Sims, Don Caldwell, and Alvie Chilcutt.

Jessie Marie Jackson

Jessie Marie Jackson, 76, of Paragould, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born July 13, 1927, in Lake City. She was employed as a shipping clerk at Frolic Shoe Factory in Jonesboro and was a member of West View Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Larry Joyner; her parents, Monroe and Maggie Carter Glass; one son, Danny Taylor; one brother, Lenzie Glass; and one sister, Gladys Davis.

Survivors include her husband, James Jackson of the home; one son, Terry Taylor of Hot Springs; one sister, Lorene Harris of Jonesboro; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Winn officiating. Burial will be in Upper Cain Island Cemetery in Lake City under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Elsa Helen Lafferty

Elsa Helen Lafferty, 96, of Corning, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Westwood Hills Healthcare in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

She was born Aug. 25, 1907, in San Francisco, Calif. She worked in the shipping department of Famour-Barr Department Store. She was a Jehovah's Witness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl Ernest and Ida Clara Hartwig; and one daughter, Anita Headley.

Survivors include one son, Karl Lafferty of Newburgh, Ind.; one daughter, Inita Ahrent of Corning; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Ermert Funeral Home Chapel in Corning with Steve Oliver officiating.

Burial will be in Williams Cemetery in Corning under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Luvenia Conway

Luvenia Conway, 81, of Corning, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born June 15, 1922, in Parkin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Conway of the home; two sons, Wesley Jones and Leon Jones, both of Wynne; one stepson, Richard Keith Conway of Pensacola, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Corning Cemetery in Corning with the Rev. Billy Snow officiating and under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning.

William Hyle Ennis

William Hyle Ennis, 90, of Success, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Walnut Ridge.

He was born July 1, 1913, in Supply. He was the owner and operator of Ennis Grocery in Success; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, during which he received the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

He was also a member of Hubbard-Carroll American Legion in Success and a member of Rapert-Poynor VFW. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Success.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vida Spencer Ennis; his parents, Charley and Sarah Ennis; and two brothers, Hallie Ennis and Loyd Ennis.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Moore of Success; two sons, Bill Ennis of Jonesboro and Mac Ennis of Pocahontas; one brother-in-law, Jack Spencer of Doniphan, Mo.; three nieces, Sally Ladyman of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Renee Raper and Terry Selig, both of Stuttgart; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Success with the Rev. Wayne Baldwin and Bill Ennis officiating. Burial will be in the Ingram Cemetery in Maynard with full military honor guard by Promberger-Traw VFW Post 4556 from Pocahontas and under the direction of Ermert Funeral Home of Corning.

Pallbearers are Joe Jett, Tim Ennis, Joel Tullos, Mark Haney, David Handwork, and Scott Tate.

Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandsons.

Debra Lynn Faries, 45, of Rector, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at her home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1958, in Corning. She was a teacher and center director of Rector Head Start. She was a member of the Corning Y Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert Faries of the home; her mother, Alma Wood of Corning; her father and step-mother, Junior and April Hollowell of Naylor, Mo.; two daughters, Brandi Faries of the home and Ashley Faries of Rector; three grandchildren, Ryder Collins, Tanner Faries and Sierra Beadles, all of Rector; her grandmother, Ila Moore of Corning; seven sisters, Rhonda Hovis and Brenda Arnold, both of Corning, Melinda Calhoun of Hardy, Christy Martin of Maynard and Tiffany Burton, Tanya Hollowell, and Cheyenne Hollowell, all of Naylor, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Jimmy Parrish officiating.

Burial will be at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke under the direction of Irby Funeral Home.

Orpha Irene Hamelback

Orpha Irene Hamelback, 81, of Rector, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born July 15, 1922, in Rector. She was a homemaker and attended the Marmaduke Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford "Wick" Hamelback; her parents, Marion and Ella Little Evans; two sisters, Earline Evans and Hazel Evans; and one brother, Leonard Evans.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ricky Hamelback of Rector and Dewayne and Mary Ann Hamelback of St. Charles, Mo.; one brother, J.D. "Bodie" Evans of Jackson, Mo.; four grandchildren, Steven Hamelback, Brad Hamelback, Christy Hamelback and Jason Hamelback; and seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Matthew, Nicole, Jacob, Megan, Sydney and Austin.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Marmaduke with Arvil Hill officiating.

Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery, south of Marmaduke, under the direction of Irby Funeral Home of Marmaduke.

Betty Evelyn Raney, 68, of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Dec. 29, 1935 in Fredericktown, Mo. She was a retired vendor for the Blind and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Raney; her parents, William and Opal Nash; one brother, Sonny Nash; and one sister, Patsy Hall.

Survivors include two sons, Dallas Raney of Palm City, Fla., and Stephen Lewis Raney of Hot Springs; two daughters, Carol Sharpe of Paragould, and Leslie Raney of Stryker, Ohio; three brothers, William Nash, Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., Ronnie Nash of Malden, Mo., and Richard Nash of Russellville; six sisters, Marilyn Richmond of Dyess, Janet Archer of Bragg City, Mo., Glenda Traudt of Algonquin, Ill., Margie Redman of Chicago, Ill., Joyce Crawford of Kennett, Mo., and Cathy Hilfiker of Gideon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Larry Bulla officiating.

Burial will be private.

Raymond Floyd Murphy

Raymond Floyd Murphy, 73, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at his home.

He was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Williamson County, Ill. He retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, a member of the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pat Murphy; his parents, Benjamin Levi and Lydia Grimes Murphy; and two brothers.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond, Jr. and Donna Murphy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Debora Murphy of Tucson, Ariz., and Becky Murphy of Paragould; and one sister, Jewell Hudgens of Marion, Ill.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Clinton Holder officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Opal Irene "Sally" Huckabee



Opal Irene "Sally" Huckabee, 69, of Paragould died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in Jonesboro.

She was born Aug. 16, 1934, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and attended Second and Walnut Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Dick Huckabee; her parents, Charles Edward and Nora Howard Aden; one son, William Britt Huckabee; two brothers, Charles Edward Aden and Burl Franklin Aden; and two sisters, Lawanda Faye Aden and Elsie Rogers.

Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard Rogers, Danny and Georgia Rogers and Shane and Melissa Huckabee, all of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Arnett of Paragould; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Joyce Aden of Paragould; four grandchildren, Nicole Arnett, Jeremy Arnett, Britt Arnett and Clayton Huckabee; and four nephews, Randy Aden, Timmy Rogers and Kimmy Don Rogers, all of Paragould.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Burl Young and Zane Gray officiating. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Paragould under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Ragsdell, Kimmy Don Rogers, Ross Ashford, Brady Rogers, Jeremy Arnett and Britt Arnett.

Honorary pallbearers are Randy Aden and Phillip Widmer.

Rosie Lindley Jones



Rosie Lindley Jones, 75, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born Jan. 10, 1928 in Newport. She was a former resident of Blytheville, a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and a retired employee of Borg Warner. Jones loved reading, watching old westerns, gardening and flowers. She also enjoyed attending flea markets and yard sales and, over the years, had amassed an impressive collection of frogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cegil Emerson and Mattie Irene Dunavant Dilldine, and two husbands, Jim Bob Lindley and Luther Jones.

Survivors include her children, Lillian and James Midgett of Walnut Ridge, Barbara and Gene Midgett of Williford, Don and Bernice Lindley of Half Moon, Nadene Moore of Keiser, Kathy and Calvin Gray of Pocahontas, Steven and Linda Lindley of Lake City, Jerry and Barbara Lindley of Keiser, Doris and Bub Whitaker of Alicia, and Joyce Lindley of Paragould; one brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Paulette Dilldine of Pomona, Mo.; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lizzie Akridge of Gideon, Mo., Dovey Jones of Tuckerman, Dorothy and Alf Ivie of Bradford and Janie and John Ford of Tuckerman; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Dogwood Mausoleum Chapel with burial following in Dogwood Cemetery.

Visitation was from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville.

 

Anna Beth Clark



Anna Beth Clark, 68, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Strawberry. She was a retired office manager for Delta Asphalt Co. and a retiree from People's Bank. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Cuba Blanton Callahan; one grandson, Aaron David Tarry; and one sister, Sally Eagan.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Clark of Paragould; two daughters and one son-in-law, Melissa Tarry and Liz and Shane May, all of Paragould; and two grandchildren, Will Tarry and Anna Clara May, both of Paragould.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Rev. David Moseley and the Rev. Jeff Rainwater officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers are Jim Pickens, Dick Pickens, Larry McDaniel, Bill Maxwell, Gerald Brown and Billy Ed Doyle.

Honorary pallbearers are the Sisters of Beta Sigma Phi.

Boyd Waylan Pickler, 65, of Rector, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in Paragould.

He was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Knob. He was a Dallas Transit bus driver and a member of the Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Pickler; his parents, Benard and Luna Pickler; and one brother, Hershel Pickler.

Survivors include two stepsons, Jeffrey Todd Price of Paragould and Randy Joe Price of Gulfport, Miss.; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Donna Pickler of Gaines, Mich.; two nephews, Scott Pickler and Bradley Pickler, both of Gaines; one niece, Holly Baunchem of Gaines; and four grandchildren, Nauna Price, Shana Price, Brandon Price and Bridgett Price.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Jack Bearden officiating. Burial will be in Rock Springs Cemetery in Knob under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector.

Raymond Floyd Murphy, 73, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at his home.

He was born Dec. 7, 1930, in Williamson County, Ill. He retired from the U.S. Army as a sergeant first class. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, a member of the Masons and Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pat Murphy; his parents, Benjamin Levi and Lydia Grimes Murphy; and two brothers.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond, Jr. and Donna Murphy of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Debora Murphy of Tucson, Ariz., and Becky Murphy of Paragould; and one sister, Jewell Hudgens of Marion, Ill.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Clinton Holder officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Margie Lucille Burns, 82, of Marmaduke died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at her niece's residence. She was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Burns; and her parents, Billy and Martha Adams Haneline.

Survivors include six brothers, Robert Haneline and Eugene Haneline, both of Michigan, Bill Haneline of Florida, Leslie Haneline of Tennessee, J.D. Haneline of Texas and Melvin Haneline of Arkansas.

Lorene Sloan Davis, 88, of Light, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Walnut Ridge.

She was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Light Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Davis; and three sons, Charles Howard Davis, Donald Davis and J.D. Davis.

Tomy Joe Kitchens, 77, formerly of Judsonia, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, in Paragould. He was born June 10, 1926, in Dover. He served in the U.S. Army and sold building materials until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Iva Martindale Kitchens; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Stan Kitchens of Sherwood, and Larry Kitchens of Paragould; one daughter, Glenda DeLeon of Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery in Judsonia. Arrangements have been entrusted to Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home.

Dennis Cleo Johnson, 76, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center of natural causes. He was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Cryder, Mo. He was a factory worker, a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Madge Yates Johnson; his wife, Clorah Harmon Johnson; and one daughter, Constance Melinda Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Mitchell Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Roger Kent Johnson of Waterloo, Ill.; one daughter, Teressa Lynn Reynolds of Waterloo, Ill.; two brothers, Donald Johnson and Kenneth Johnson, both of Paragould; three sisters, Melva Jean Foster of Little Rock, Marie Thompson of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Judith Britt of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Mitchell Johnson, (son of Dennis Johnson) officiating. Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Dorothy Lee Phillips, 68, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Manila and had been a Paragould resident since 1988. She was a former long-time Florida resident and was a retired electronics technician with Motorola Corp. She was a member of 10th Street Missionary Baptist Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Newt and Dixie Ethel Evans.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Phillips of the home; two daughters, Sandra Morrow of Mt. Nebo, W. Va., and Rhonda Gail Quintana of Ocala, Fla.; one brother, Leonard Earl Evans of Greenfield, Ind.; two sisters, Martha Jean Stillwell and Linda Wilmuth, both of Manila; two grandchildren, Misty Bishop and Jack Quintana; and one great-grandchild, Joseph Tyler Bishop.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila. Rev. Fred Jones will officiate.

He was born March 31, 1943, in Paragould. He was owner of Tree Service and Karaoke, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of new Covenant Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Voudeen Gomer; two daughters, Terresa Gomer and Tammy Gomer; one sister, Ida Mae Gomer; and one granddaughter, Danielle Davis.

Survivors include one son, Larry Gomer, Jr., of Paragould; two daughters, Laura French of Oak Grove Heights and Lisa Davis of Springfield; one brother, Darrell Gomer of Paragould; three sisters, Garnell Colley of Marmaduke and Glenda Greenway and Margaret Owens, both of Paragould; and nine grandchildren.

Gurayne Lee "Peck" Thrasher, 73, of Rector, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Rector Healthcare.

He was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Greene County. He was a farmer, a lifelong resident of the community and a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Zephra Lee and Maggie Reynolds Thrasher; and one sister, Glenda Blackburn.

Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Cloyce and Brenda Thrasher of Warrenton, Mo., and Charles and Joy Thrasher of Paragould; one sister and two brothers-in-law, Loretta and Bill Caldwell of Greensburg, Ind., and Charles Blackburn of Clarkton, Mo.; and many relatives and friends.

He was born Dec. 2, 1951, in Portland, Ore. He was a factory worker and lived in the Rector community for 21 years. He served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corp and the National Guard. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Jewell Nelson Shelton.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Kappleman; her second husband, Harold Dickinson; her third husband, Lee Freeman; one son, Louis Edward Kappleman; one grandson, Ronald Kappleman; and four brothers, Willard Smelser, Charlie Smelser, Luther Smelser and A.G. Earp.

Survivors include one daughter Jean Monsivais of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Verniece Cunningham of Lake Charles; three stepsons, Ricky Dickinson, Duane Dickinson and Don Dickinson, all of Paragould; one stepbrother, Elma Craig of Paragould; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Marie Greathouse, 90, of Paragould, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas.

She was born Jan. 15, 1913, in the Spring Grove Community of Greene County. She was retired from Ely Walker Shirt Factory and was a Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Sarah Jane Greathouse; one brother, Earl Greathouse; one sister, Orene Greathouse; and one great-great-great-nephew, Kurt Duke.

Survivors include three nephews, Everett Greathouse, Glenn Greathouse, and Earl Winston Greathouse, all of Paragould; one niece, Reba Whiteside of Paragould; four great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

He was born March 27, 1925, in Paragould. He was a retired route salesman for Dr Pepper Bottling Company, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of and a deacon at Third Avenue Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille McGowan.

Survivors include his wife, Maudean McGowan of the home; one son, Tim McGowan of Paragould; one daughter, Karen Beasley of Paragould; four grandchildren, Mark McGowan, Matt McGowan, Stacy McBride, and Ragon Weatherford; and two great-grandsons, Samuel McBride and Simon McBride.

She was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Marmaduke and was a lifelong member of the community. She was occupied in the medical field and was a member of Marmaduke First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Hoggard; her parents, Luther and Oather Hill Starnes; and two brothers, James Otis Starnes and Phineas "Pint" Starnes.

Delbert Eugene Miller, 49, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born Feb. 17, 1954, in Stockton, Calif.

He was a member of White Rose Church of God in Stockton, was very fond of music and was the head of the choir at his church.

He graduated from high school in Stockton in 1972, at participated in track.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Lynn Miller of the home; five sons, Michael Tyrone Miller of Stockton and Michael Allen Turner, Ryan Patrick Miller, Bryan Eugene Miller and Delbert Eugene Miller, III, all of Paragould; three daughters, Maya Nichole Miller of Stockton and Tia Wiriaatmadia and Tanya Caprice Miller, both of Paragould; his mother, Mary Alma Miller of Oakland, Calif.; four brothers, Reginald Dean Miller of Wisconsin, Craig Lavine Miller of Stockton and Roger Lynn Miller and Jamall Miller, both of Reno, Nev.; one sister, Lawanna Africa Miller of Reno; and two grandchildren, Brazilian and Taimar.

Albert Carson Garner, 82, of Paragould, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould of natural causes. He was born March 9, 1921, in Stanford. He was retired from Emerson Electric in St. Louis, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Alma Garner; one brother, Sanford Garner; and one sister, Mildred Harville.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Garner of Beech Grove, and Rene Garner of Mo.; one brother, Randal Garner of Paragould; four sisters, Wanna Foster of Jonesboro, Freddie Shipley of August, Mo., Lurline Hyde of West Memphis, and Ruby Fitzgerald of Paragould.

Macon E. Rowe



Macon E. Rowe, 83, of Paragould, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born May 17, 1920, in the Mountain Home community in Greene County and was a life long resident of Greene County. He was a self-employed jeweler and watchmaker and an accountant. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and a member of Bethel Church of Christ, where he served as an elder.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie C. and Mamie Bass Rowe; one brother, Chester Rowe; and one sister, Carmelita Lenderman.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Rowe of Paragould; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen Rowe of Midland, Texas, Patty and Carey Schaller of North Little Rock and Sandra and Tom Akins of Lexington, Ky.; three brothers, Victor Rowe of Beech Grove and Joe Rowe and Alfred Rowe, both of Paragould; two grandsons, Johnny Rowton and Jeremy Rowton, both of Midland; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Lonnie Pyle officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Pallbearers are Tim Rowe, Woody Rowe, Kevin Rowe, Kelly Rowe, Charles Rowe, Bart Rowe, Roger Rowe, Philip Rowe and Mark Rowe.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Patricia Ella Snider



Patricia Ella Snider, 70, of Zanesville, Ohio, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at her home.

She was born April 13, 1933, in Paragould. She was a graduate of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Ill., a member of Beaux Arts, St. James Episcopal Church, Zanesville Art Center and the Zanesville Country Club, as well as a former vestry member of St. James Church, a past board member of the Zanesville Day Nursery and past member of the Bethesda Hospital Guild. She was devoted to family and friends and treasured her time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Webster and Ina Skaggs.

Survivors include her husband, James P. Snider; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Pamela Snider of Loveland, Ohio, and Steven W. and Lynn Snider of Pickerington, Ohio; one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine Snider and Jeffrey Ares of West Chester, Ohio; one sister, Seroba Francis Shifflett of Knoxville, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Jameson Snider, Kevin Snider, Adam Ares, Brian Ares, Jonathan Snider and Katelyn Snider.

Eva Jean Underwood, 66, of Little Rock, formerly of Marmaduke, died Thursday, January 22, 2004, at St. Vincent's Doctor's Hospice in Little Rock.

She was born May 24, 1937, in Dell. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Marmaduke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Underwood; and her parents, Holton and Virginia Smith Carner.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James and Kristi Underwood of Ventura, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and James Woods of Mayflower and Pamela and David McCauley of Benton; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Eddie Carner and Phil and Cheryl Carner, all of Paragould; one sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Neil Self of Huntsville, Ala.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Woods, Dustin McCauley, Erin Woods, Daniel McCauley, Shyla Underwood and Jenna Underwood; and one great-grandchild, Calif.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating and under the direction of Irby Funeral Service.

Emma Margaret Martin

 

Emma Margaret Martin, 80, of Cardwell, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Senath Nursing Home in Senath, Mo.

She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Cardwell. She was a retired bookkeeper who had worked in Arbyrd, Mo., and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Florian and Mary Ungerank Martin.

Survivors include two sisters, Anna Guard of Cardwell and Frances DeBons of Paragould; six nieces; six nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father John Marconi officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Paragould under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a Rosary from 7 to 7:30 p.m. today.

Raymond Everette McAbee, 90, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born Oct. 25, 1913, in Marmaduke. He was a retired plant engineer for Interstate Bakery in Los Angeles and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Dora Williamson McAbee; three brothers, Cloyce McAbee, Lloyd McAbee and Arvol McAbee; and one sister, Carman Mann.

Survivors include his wife, Viva McAbee of Paragould; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas Trammell of Squim, Wash., Dan and Maria Trammell of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Donald and Bonnie Trammell of Sutter Creek, Calif.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Doris Zukduckman of Montrose, Calif., and Marcella and Douglas Flores of Atwater, Calif.; one brother, Marvin McAbee of Imperial, Calif., four sisters, Imogene Boone of Escondido, Calif., Alene Martin of Gresham, Ore., Lorene Terry of Buena Vista and Wanda Bledsoe of Bonsall, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Danielle Trammell, Max Trammell, William Trammell, Brent Trammell, Justin Trammell, Elizabeth Quadar, Mary Applegate and Deborah Flores; and four great-grandchildren, Sara Quadar, Joe Quadar, Anthony Fletcher and Mary Fletcher.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Anthony Trayler officiating. Burial will be in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Robert DaSilva "Bobby" Elmore, 39, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.

He was born Oct. 1, 1964, in Paragould. He was a musician and artist and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, Bill and Linda Elmore of Paragould; his aunt and godmother, Mira DaSilva of Tarry Town, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, William David and Lisa Elmore of Benton; one niece, Sara Elmore of Benton; and one nephew, John Elmore of Benton.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cemetery with Father John Marconi officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Visitation and Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James Albert Roe



James Albert Roe, 86, of Southaven, Miss., formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2004, at Baptist Hospital Desoto in Southhaven, Miss. He was born June 19, 1917, in Monette. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired car dealer and former owner of Roe Auto Sales in Paragould. He was a member of the Center Hill Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Roe; two sons, Randy Roe and David Roe; one brother, Calvin Roe; and two sisters, Betty Brummett and Stella Greene.

He is survived by one son, Ron Roe of Memphis, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Chris Roe, Craig Roe and Lola Acklin.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Linwood Cemetery with Chris Roe and Craig Roe officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.






Kendall Austin Johnson



Kendall Austin Johnson, 43, of Paragould, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his residence of natural causes. He was born Nov. 4, 1960, in Paragould. He worked for Arkansas Glass as a crew leader and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clyde and Estelle Johnson and Paul Sr. and Nellie Goings; and his stepfather, Dallas Herbert Weyer.

Survivors include his mother, Sarah Jacqueline (Goings) Weyer of Paragould; his father, Kelly Mac Johnson of Paragould; his wife, Linda Kay Johnson of Paragould; one son, Kelly Austin Johnson of Paragould; three step-daughters, Jamie Rooker, Alisha Rooker and Ashley Rooker, all of Paragould; two sisters, Kelly Cartwright and Kristi Johnson, both of Paragould; one niece, Tiffany Johnson of Paragould; and one nephew, Corby Cartwright of Paragould.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Rick Ethridge officiating. Burial will be at Chesser Cemetery in Pocahontas.

Pallbearers are Corby Cartwright, Dennis Flanery, Byron Edwards, Travis Van Don, Doug Duff, Maury Weiner and Alan Weyer.

Ina Jeraldine Herron



Ina Jeraldine Herron, 63, of Paragould, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Paragould Nursing Center. She was born Aug. 4, 1940, in Franklin. She was disabled and attended Warrens Chapel Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Ruth Herron; and one brother, Leroy Herron.

Survivors include one brother, Tildon Herron of Franklin; and two sisters, Janice Beasley of Paragould and Almeda Thomas of Evening Shade.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will be at Robertson Cemetery in Franklin at a later date.

No visitation has been scheduled.

 


Jesse Sue Glenn



Jesse Sue Glenn, 68, of Paragould, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at her home. She was born Dec. 23, 1935, in Lawrence County. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leora Bennett Waller.

She is survived by her husband, Elwyn Glenn of the home; one son, Leon W. Eddings of Paragould; two daughters, Peggy Douglas and Teresa Rodgers of Paragould; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greene County Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Larry McFadden officiating, under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.

Memorials can be made to Senior Citizens Community Center or the Ben Owens Cancer Center.

Louise R. Van Pelt



Louise R. Van Pelt, 90, of Bronson, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004.

She was born March 13, 1913, in Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from Bronson High School, received nurse's training at the former Beila Post Hospital in Battle Creek and in 1978, earned her bachelor's degree with honors in elementary education from Arkansas State University. She resided in Paragould from 1966 to 1981. She was an accomplished seamstress, a pilot and served as organist for First Baptist Church of Bronson and Pleasant Hill Missionary Church. While living in Paragould, she was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan Van Pelt; her parents, Henry H. and Grace Louise Horton Russell; one son, David R. Van Pelt; her twin sister, Jeanette; and one brother, Paul Russell.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Ann and James Stewart of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Janet Dodge and Bob Lamb of Lawton, Mich., and Marrijane and Robert Walker of Portage; one sister, Rosemary Russell of Friendship Village in Kalamazoo; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor Don Matteson of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Church officiating. Burial will follow in Matteson Twp. Cemetery under the direction of Kolcz Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Missionary Church or to the Oncology Unit at the Community Health Center of Branch County.

Wilma Johnson, 88, of Marmaduke, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born March 30, 1915, in Rector. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the community.

She was preceded in death her husband, Gilbert Johnson; and her parents, Lee and Lydia Benson.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Walter Lange of Paragould; and three grandchildren, Courtney Lange of Little Rock, Eric Lange of the home and Josh Lange of Neosha Mo.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector with Bro. Ronnie Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery under the direction of Irby Funeral Service.

Gladys Mae Burrow



Gladys Mae Burrow, 81, of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born Oct. 12, 1922, in Lafe. She was a homemaker and attended Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester L. Burrow; her parents, William and Mary Catherine Textor; and five brothers, Marvin Textor, Ersul Textor, George Textor, Morris Textor, and Burl Textor.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Mary Burrow and Donnie and Cleta Burrow, all of Paragould, and Gary and Dennita Burrow of Forney, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Kerron and Virgil Smith of Paragould; three sisters, Roberta Textor of Paragould, Louise Williams of Rector, and Violet Rust of Kennett, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Bette Textor, Alvie Textor and Jonell Textor, all of Paragould; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Larry Merle and Don Burrow officiating. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Grover "Leroy" Pettit

 


Grover "Leroy" Pettit, 74, of Paragould, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at the home of his daughter.

He was born on April 23, 1929, in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Ann Arbor Fraternity Lodge 262. He loved travel, nature and dancing, was devoted to his family and friends and found joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Jewel Holcomb Pettit; one brother, James F. Pettit; and one sister, Juanita Kimes.

Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Dr. Cynthia L. and Charles Baetz, of Ann Arbor, Mich., Susan L. Dickinson of Saline, Mich., and Lori A. Zoumbaris of Belleville, Mich.; three sons and one daughter-in-law, David F. Pettit of Lincoln, Neb., Thomas L. and Barbara Pettit of Hudson, Mich., and Daniel S. Pettit of Berkeley, Calif.; one sister, Gale Skelton of McDougal; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his uncle, Theodore Pettit of Paragould; one niece; and several nephews and cousins. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Nie Funeral Home in Ann Arbor.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.

O.T. Reinhart, 88, of Paragould, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

He was born July 30, 1915, in Lafe. He was a retired farmer and a member of Lafe Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Cole Reinhart; his parents, George and Flora Reinhart; five brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Ralph Reinhart and Charles Reinhart, both of Lafe, Bill Reinhart of St. Charles, Mo., and Eldon Reinhart of Paragould; one daughter, Sharon Dowler of Lafe; two sisters, Rachel LeBlanc of Paragould and Irene Fletcher of Arbyrd, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Lafe Baptist Church with the Rev. David Roe and the Rev. Eddie Gene Wright officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Von K. Starnes, 88, of Blytheville, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Marmaduke and was a Blytheville resident for 54 years. He worked in the trucking industry as a terminal manager and was a member and former elder of the 13th and Main Church of Christ. He was also a founder of the Blytheville Little League and served as a Little League coach.

He enjoyed woodworking and trains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. and Clara May Starnes; one daughter, Dorothy Jacqueline Starnes; and one half sister, Alyene Foster.

Survivors include his wife, Vestle Taylor Starnes of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Pat Allen of Tupelo, Miss., and Becky and Bruce Daniels of Blytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Leah Starnes of Clinton, Miss.; three half sisters, Mozelle Benson of Blytheville and Nancy Higginbotham and Jean Beatty, both of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandsons, Scott Allen of Bakersfield, Calif., Ronny Allen of Tupelo, Danny Daniels of Atlanta, Ga., Bryce Daniels of Auburn, Ala., and Reed Starnes of Clinton.; and four great-grandchildren, Tia Allen of Tupelo, Caleb Daniels and Leighton Daniels, both of Auburn, and Cody Allen of Bakersfield.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

James Carter



James "Jim S." Carter. 93, of Paragould, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born July 9, 1910, in Maynard. He was a mechanic with Mack West International, a member of First Church of God, and a World War II Army veteran, having served with the H/S Company 284th Engineer, Combat Battalion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Haughten and Jodie Ella Sellars Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Katie Barnett Carter; three nieces, Dorotha Mochel of Indiana, Cathy White of Weiner and Carol Mabile of Texas; and one nephew, J.C. Huddleston of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in Marmaduke. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Gerald Conger, Mike Huffine, Andy Ritsmon, Jay Ritsmon, Billy Joe White and Carter Joe White.
