Christine "Chris" Robinson


Christine “Chris” Robinson, 89, of Corinth, Mississippi, formerly of Paragould, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007, at Corinth Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Robinson was born July 7, 1917, in Grandie New Mexico, to Ross and Maude Perry Wilson. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Paragould.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Kay Robinson Blanton of Corinth, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank P. Robinson; her parents; two daughters, Connie Robinson Best and Frankie Robinson Williams; and by one granddaughter, Rebecca Mikki Williams.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 5th, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. A memorial service will follow with Royce Boling officiating. There will be a private burial at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim McMeans, Ricky Williams, Mack Toombs, Harry Thomas, Jr., Darrell Floyd and Bill Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Baptist Church Missionary Fund would be appreciated.

Helen Lue Drowns


Helen Lue Drowns, 60, of Paragould, died Monday, January 1, 2007, at the Sunshine Manor Retirement Home. Mrs. Drowns was born Dec. 7, 1946, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Mrs. Drowns is survived by two children, Randy William Drowns and Sandy Ware; three grandchildren; two sisters; and four brothers.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Mo. Services will be Thursday, January 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Carlton Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Kinsey Cemetery near Harvell, Mo.

Peggy Ann Rowley



Peggy Ann Huckabee Rowley, 55, of Lowell, IN., passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2007.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, David; one son, Wesley Rowley of Lowell; her mother, Pauline Austin of Paragould; one brother, Shane Huckabee of Paragould; one sister, Jennifer and husband, Larry Humphrey of Marmaduke; one sister-in-law, Susan Camp of Lake of the Four Seasons, Ind.; one stepsister, Winoma and husband Dallas DeHart of Paragould; aunts and uncles, Ruel and Mildred Jones of St. Francis, Gene and Freddie Widmer of Paragould, Glen and Grace Jones of Wilmington, Ill.; and niece and nephew, Elizabeth Camp and Clayton Huckabee.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dick Huckabee.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. in Sheets Funeral Home, 604 East Commercial Ave., Lowell. Cremation preceding.

Burial will follow at a later date in Shiloh Cemetery at Paragould.

Peggy worked for Lowell Healthcare for 28 years in the dietary department.

Jeff Hanks Harris

 

Jeff Hanks Harris, 80, of Paragould died Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

He was born June 6, 1926 at Paragould to the late Robert Virgil and Clara Jeffie Hanks Harris. His brother, Theron Lee Harris, also precedes him in death.

Jeff served his country in the Air Force during World War II. He was a barber for 55 years and owner of Harris Men's Stylist and Harris Insurance and was a real estate agent for Bratton Real Estate until Dec. 31, 2006.

Jeff was active in his community and served as a Rotarian with more than 32 years of perfect attendance and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of Gideons, the Realtors Association, and served on the city council for four years, and the water board for two years.

He was a member of First Baptist Church since 1952, an ordained deacon, Sunday school teacher for junior high boys, and taught Sunday school at Greene Acres Nursing Home for 22 years.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Gladys Masters Harris; daughters and son-in-law, Janet Welshans of Bossier City, La., Cathy Wilkin of Paragould and Glenda and Mike Spain of Paragould; a brother, Robert Hansel Harris of Paragould; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Marsden and Bill Steeger officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International and First Baptist Church.

Myrtle Southard



Myrtle Southard of Paragould died January 3, 2007.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Greene County Memorial Gardens with Mitchell Funeral Home in charge.

There will be no visitation.

Betty Gill


Betty Gill, 81, of Paragould, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at her residence. Born March 8, 1925, in Los Angeles, California, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Gill is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon and George Baughman of Columbus, Ohio, and Paula and John Voorhees of Paragould; one brother, Robert House of Twining, Michigan; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Margurite House; and by her husband, Sam A. Gill.
Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 12th, 10:00 A. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Jeff Voorhees, Michael Franks, Shawn Franks, Chris Payton, Robert House, and John Dulaney will serve as pallbearers.

Dorothy Bernice Hampton




Dorothy Bernice Hampton, 80 of Paragould died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born May 5, 1926, she was of the Baptist faith and formerly worked at Ely Walker Shirt Factory.
Survivors include three sons: Kent and Keith Hampton both of Paragould, Robert Dewayne Richardson of Delaplaine, two daughters: Cheryl Turner and Marilyn Mann both of Paragould, two brothers: Herbert Whitney of Paragould, Charles Whitney of Lake City, Arkansas, eighteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hampton was preceded in death by: her husband: Alfred Hampton and one daughter: Sandy Walker.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Finch Cemetery with Rayburn Formon officiating. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould was in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Hicks



Mrs. Ethel Hicks of Paragould went home to be with her Lord at 2:53 p.m. on January 6, 2007 at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on January 21.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Brother Carl Hicks, who pastored churches in the Jonesboro area for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her son, Bill Hicks, and her daughter and son-in-law, June and Dallas Hyatt, all of Paragould; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of 10th Street Baptist Church of Paragould and was a wonderful mentor to many people. She shared her joy of playing her harmonica with the church until shortly before she went home. What a great blessing she was to everyone who came in contact with her.

Her life will be celebrated in Macadonia Missionary Baptist Church just off Greensboro Road at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Brother Waymon Holt officiating and Brother Boyce Cate assisting. Burial will follow in Macadonia Cemetery.

Visitation will be in Heath Funeral Home at Paragould from 6-8 p.m. today.

Victoria Shields



Victoria Shields, 88, of Paragould, formerly of Peach Orchard, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, in Green Acres Nursing Home at Paragould.
She was born in Smithland, KY., February 8, 1918 to Riley and Florence Brasher Cooper.

Survivors include one daughter, Sonjia Cole of Paragould; one son, Danny Shields of Lafe; one grandson, Scotty Cole; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jessie Cooper of Seymour, Mo., and James Cooper of Tucson, Ariz.; and two sisters, Imogene Ragsdale and Ocie Coffel, both of Durango, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Shields, on Dec. 2, 1995; one sister, Beatrice Schimming; one brother, Lee Chester Cooper; and one granddaughter, Tammy Woods.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. in Ermert Funeral Home at Corning. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial in Brownie Cemetery.

Thelma Ann Cox




Thelma Ann Cox 96 of Rector died on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark. She was born at Everet, Michigan on May 13, 1910 to Adelbert and Myrtie Porter. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a step daughter: Marcell Taylor of Phoenix, Arizona. Several grandchildren and gr. grandchildren, and one gr gr grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Her husband, William Luther Cox, Two sons Charles and Adelbert Feirick. Three daughters, Hilda Bush, Lindy Duncan, And Mary Smith.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, January 9, at the Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector with Bro James Henry Dortch officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be Dewey Shelton, Leroy O’Neal, Dewain Smith, Keith Smith, Buel Cox, Charles Smith.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm Tuesday till time for service, at the Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector.

Barbara Sue Cooper




Barbara Sue Cooper, 63, of Paragould, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at her residence.
Born September 2, 1943, in Paragould, to Claude and Lorene Reed Forbs, Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and a member of Brighton Community Church.
Survivors include her husband, Elvis Cooper of the home; four sons, Elvis Ray Cooper, Jim Cooper, Tim Cooper, and Charlie Cooper, all of Paragould; one daughter, Shelia Norman of Paragould; and one stepson, Terry Cooper of Fulton, Missouri. She is also survived by four brothers, James Forbs of Jacksonville, Florida, Lester Forbs, Johnny Forbs, and Danny Forbs all of Paragould; four sisters, Lucille Edwards, Shirley Alsup, and Bonnie Morgan, all of Paragould, Christine Howard of Cardwell; twenty-three grandchildren; and by thirteen great grandchildren.
Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ernest Forbs, Elmer Forbs, Larry Forbs and Leon Forbs; and by two sisters, Esther Forbs and Edith Forbs.
Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 10th, 1:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with David White officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Home Cemetery, Paragould.
Pallbearers will include Paul Hayes, Lloyd Danalto, Larry Bradley, Kenny Norman, Tommy Jewell, James Wiggins. Andrew March will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Lillian Earl Ransom Eaker


Lillian Earl Ransom Eaker, 100, of Stuttgart and formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Eaker was born October 10, 1906 in Kevil, Kentucky to Elisha Alexander Ransom and Dovie Bay Harris. Her family moved to Paragould in 1922, where she married Nelson Alfonso Eaker on July 5, 1926. She received great joy from her life as a homemaker, raising seven children as her husband farmed their 80 acres south of Paragould. She was a long-time member and Sunday School teacher at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paragould. After 78 years as a Paragould resident, Mrs. Eaker moved to Stuttgart in 2000 to make her home with her daughter, Kathy Short and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Martha Dean Eaker Wright, three sisters Opal Ransom Bonney, Ocie Lee Ransom Dunavant, Geneva Ransom Gramling, and a brother Paul Ransom.
Survivors include 6 children, Freda Lovelady and husband Max of Collierville, TN, Juanita Harris of Nesbit, MS, James Eaker and wife Jackie of Paragould, Joel Eaker and wife Peggy of St. Louis, MO, Kenneth Eaker and wife Pauline of St. Clair, MO, and Kathyrn Short and husband Terry of Stuttgart. Mrs. Eaker is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews including Jack Copeland, Barb Gramling and Earline Hickey.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 10th, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paragould with Rev. Ty Huitt officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Juanita E. (Thompson) Reed


Juanita Reed, 85, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, Mich. Mrs. Reed was born August 10, 1921 in Stonewall, Ark. to the late James Samuel and Nancy Theresa (Jackson) Thompson. She graduated from Paragould High School as Valadictorian in 1939. She attended the Memphis School of Commerce and the University of Chicago.

She moved to Oscoda, Mich. in 1963, where she raised her daughters and was supervisor of the Supply and Inventory Department at Wurtsmuth Air Force Base until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Oscoda United Methodist Church and NARFE, serving as their local treasurer for many years.

Surviving are her two daughters, Nancy (Dan) Elliott of West Hills, Calif., and Elizabeth Reed of Rochester. Also surviving are her granddaughters, Rachel and Samantha Elliott of West Hills; a sister, Ethelyn Thompson of Hilliard, Ohio; a brother, Jim (Janice) Thompson of Prescott, Ariz.; and nephews, Steven Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sam Thompson of Salt Lake City, Utah.

The family will receive friends at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home at Bay City, Mich., Friday, January 12, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be Saturday at the Hyatt Ewald Funeral Home at noon with Rev. Juanita Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery.

Those considering an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Calvin Stephen Douglas

 


Calvin Stephen Douglas, 47, of Quitman, Texas, formerly of Paragould, died in an automobile accident January 12, 2007, in Windboro, Texas. He graduated from Crowley's Ridge Academy in 1977.

He is survived by his wife, Tracey Douglas; two sons, Cody and Cassidy Douglas of Quitman; a step-son, J.D. Clark of Quitman; a step-daughter, Amber Holland of Quitman; and three step-grandchildren, all of Quitman; his parents, Calvin and Joann Douglas of Paragould; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Dean Livingston of Paragould, Leann and Jerry Pillow of Paragould, and Melanie and Jeff Estes of Paragould; his grandmother, Lottie Edrington; an aunt, Lee Reilly of Paragould; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph Edrington, and Louis and Roxie Douglas; and a special aunt, Carletta Ainsworth.

Burial will be in Quitman, Texas.

Gene Carl Everett


Gene Carl Everett passed from this life on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at John J. Perishing V.A. Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

Gene was a World War II veteran and dearly loved the American Flag, His God, and fishing and hunting. He was a very beloved artist.

Survivors include a son Bobby Everett of Lowell, Ark.; a daughter, Ellen Trayler-Anderson of Paragould; seven grandchildren, Todd Trayler of Dudley, N.C., Stacy Trayler of Marmaduke, Sharla Trayler-Piehler (Gerhard) of Paragould, Jason Trayler (Holly) of Paragould, Bobby Lynn Everett (Sharon) of Cedarville, Ark., Susan Bristol (Joey) of Paris, Texas; and Eugene Everett (Amber) of Lowell.; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his companion of 19 years, Betty Bagwell.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Edgar Humphrey and Scott Trayler officiating. Visitation will be Monday at 6 p.m.

Alice Faye Matheny


Funeral services for Alice Faye Matheny, 67, of Paragould, who passed away Monday, January 14, 2007, will be Wednesday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at the Irby Funeral Home of Marmaduke. Bros. James Balcolm and Bill Brunkhardt will officiate the ceremony. Visitation will be Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Marmaduke. Interment will follow at Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke. Pallbearers will be boys from Children’s Home, Inc. in Paragould.

Born Sept. 8, 1939, in Knobel to the late V.W. and Juanita Hollman Roush, she was a housewife and of the Church of Christ faith. She was married June 18, 1955, to Wayne Matheny.
Also preceding her in death were one brother, Lewis Roush, and one sister, Janet Poyner.
Mrs. Matheny is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Matheny of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Suzie Matheny of Houston, Texas, and Brian Matheny of Louisiana; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonita and Terry North of Paragould; three grandchildren, Mathew, Hunter and Dylan; three brothers, Larry Roush, Billy Roush and Robert Roush, all of Houston; and a sister, Sharon Hanson of Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Children's Home, Inc. of Paragould, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, Ark., 72450.

Genevieve White



Genevieve White, 78, of Jonesboro died Sunday, January 14, 2007 in NEA Medical Center at Jonesboro.

Born July 22, 1928, at Paragould to Elmer and Alice Cothern Harris, she was a teacher and a homemaker.

She graduated from Jonesboro High School and earned her BSE and MSE from Arkansas State University. She taught at Central School at Harrisburg for two years, was a first-grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary for 10 years and an insurance agent for Time Insurance Co.

She was a founding member of St. Paul Methodist Church at Jonesboro, member of Pleasant Grove Extension Homemakers, a St. Bernards Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer and member of square dance clubs. She enjoyed her family, friends, camping, canoeing, square dancing and reading, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include four daughters, Ruth Anne and husband Johnny Rickman, and Nancy and husband Johnny Blaxton, all of Jonesboro, Jonell and husband Jeff Aamodt of Searcy, and Rebecca and husband Jay Smith of Pleasant Plains; two sons, John White of Jonesboro and David and wife Sharon White of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Jim Harris and wife Dora of Plattsburg, N.Y.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. White; three brothers, Earl, Joe and Preston Harris; and one sister, Dixie Lee Harris.

Male family members served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Craighead County Nursing Center Fund for Unit One Courtyard or St. Paul United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2201 South Culberhouse, Jonesboro.

Funeral services were Wednesday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel. The Rev. Doug Welborn officiated. Burial followed in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jesstene Calaway Blalock


Mr. Jesstene Calaway (J.C., Jim) Blalock, 83, of Paragould passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born May 13, 1923, in Bay, Ark., to George Mitchell and Margaret (Reed) Blalock. He was a salesman all his life working for Tobacco Sales Company and later half-owner of B & B Homes, Inc., both of Jonesboro. He was a World War II veteran serving in both the Navy and the Army. He was a member of the First Church Of God in Paragould.

Mr. Blalock is survived by his wife, Martha (Bell) Blalock of Paragould; two sons, Michael C. Blalock and wife Kim of Jonesboro and Rickey R. Blalock of Las Cruces, N.M.; a step daughter, Lennie Hurst and husband Bill of Paragould; six brothers, O’Neal Blalock and wife, Ida of Jonesboro, Eugene Blalock and wife Nadine of St. Peters, Mo., Alton Blalock and wife Clara of Robbins, N.C., Duane Blalock and wife Millie of Ozark Acres, Ark., Billy Blalock and wife, Mary of Udall, Mo., and Dickey Blalock of Bay, Ark.; two sisters, Bernita (Warren) Colbert and husband Jim, of Jonesboro, and Pat Copeland of Bay. Mr. Blalock is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson - Blalock of Boston, Mass., Georginia and Caroline Blalock of York, Pa., Brooks Atkinson of Collierville, Tenn., and Sarah Beth Hurst of Paragould; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Berl L. Blalock of Cash, Ark.

Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Log Cemetery at Brookland. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home.

Anna Cole




Anna Cole of Paragould, died at her residence, Tuesday, January 16, 2007, the day before her ninety-second birthday.
Born January 17, 1915, in Marion, Illinois, Mrs. Cole was a retired grocery store checker and a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Ann Cole, and her friend, Sue, of Memphis, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Lucille Diggs; and friend, Zelia Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl M. Cole; one stepson, Earl Cole, Jr.; three brothers, Vincent Gennaro, Sr., Johnny Gennaro, and Anthony Gennaro; and by one sister, Rose DeManuele.
Graveside service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 20th, at Shiloh Cemetery with Edward Warren and Michael Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M. Saturday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Ruby Lee Pyland




Ruby Lee Pyland, 88, of Alexander, formerly of Paragould, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 in Lakewood Nursing Home at North Little Rock.

She was born June 26, 1918, in Craighead County to the late Tom and Beulah Johnson Jernigan.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Lloyd "Buck" Pyland; a daughter, Norma Jean Pyland; and two sons, Jim and Mike Pyland.

Ruby was retired from Emerson Electric Co. She was a member of Seventh and Mueller Church Of Christ.

Charles C. Morris


Mr. Charles C. Morris, 72, of Paragould, died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Born August 13, 1934, in Walnut Ridge to the late Thomas Hayward Morris and Bessie Stella Ruth (Wagner) Morris. Mr. Morris was a long time resident of the Oak Grove Community and was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church for 36 years. He was a self-employed carpenter and was in the construction industry and was retired for 21 years from Emerson Electric of Paragould. Mr. Morris was a former member of the Manila community, and a former member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Virgie Mae Morris of Paragould; six sons, Jeffrey Morris and wife, Gayle of Oak Grove, Chris Morris and wife, Victoria of Paragould, Anthony Morris and wife, Jonie of Oak Grove, Charles Ray Morris and wife, Robin of Ft. Bragg, N.C., and Matthew Bryan Morris and wife, Samantha of Oak Grove; a brother, Orville "Cotton" Morris of Manila; three sisters, Pat Albright of Manila, Millie Jones of Leesville, La., Janette Morris of Leesville; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Stallings officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Thursday, Jan. 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Faith Funeral Service of Manila is in charge of arrangements. Wanda Hanna, 77, of Paragould, formerly of Piggott, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2007, in Paragould.

Survivors include her daughter, Tabatha Dunlap of Washington, D.C.; sons, Jimmy Hanna of Plano, Texas, and Derek Gene Hanna of DeRidder, La.; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Marietta Glenn of Hot Springs and Martha Jane Coomer-Knight of Sherwood; and stepmother, Edith Gurley of Alma.

Services will be this afternoon at 2 at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott.

Our precious baby, Jackson Cooper Danley went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 18, 2007 at the age of two months and three days. Jackson was born on November 15, 2006 to the proud parents James Cordell Danley and Lyndsay Michelle Burkhart.
He is also survived by maternal grandmother Cathy Baldridge Burkhart, a special friend, Wayne Howard and Uncle Garrett Burkhart all of Paragould. Maternal grandfather, Mike Burkhart and wife Lisa of Henderson, Arkansas. His paternal grandparents, Kim Horrell Danley of Paragould and Jimmy Danley of Black Rock, Arkansas, maternal great grandparents: Jack and Mildred Burkhart of West Plaines, Missouri, maternal great grandparents Ruby Baldridge and the late V.L. Baldridge. Paternal great grandparents Clella and Lee Horrell, Emma Dell and James Danley all of Paragould, several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Nan Hall



Nan Hall, 50, of Peach Orchard died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, in her home.

She was born March 16, 1956, in Forrest City, the daughter of Arnold and Nancy Pybus Verhoeven.

She was a school teacher, having taught third, fifth and sixth graders at Knobel, Greene County Tech and Delaplaine schools. She was president of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Epsilon Chapter, and served on the Arkansas Benchmark Reading Committee. She was of Church of Christ belief.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Hall of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Ashley and 1st Lt. Tim Dean of Peach Orchard, and Tiphany Hall of West Palm Beach, Fla.; parents, Arnold and Nancy Verhoeven of Salesville; brothers, Raymond Verhoeven of Searcy and George Verhoeven of Wynne; and her granddaughter, Evelyn Clair Dean.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Monday in Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. in Heath Colonial Chapel with Phil Eaker and Rudy Dillard officiating.

Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Mark Graham, Michael Hampton, Trey Hall, Ray Verhoeven, Jason Carns and Mark Curtis.

Debbie Ring



Debbie Ring, 49 of Paragould died Thursday, January 18, 2007, in her home.

She was born August 8, 1957 in Paragould and lived most of her life in Greene County. She was a member of Central Baptist Church at Jonesboro, a devoted wife and a loving mother.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Coe.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Ring; two sons, Jason Ring and Adam Ring; and one daughter, Jennifer Ring, all of Paragould. Also surviving are her mother, Vergie Coe of Paragould; two sisters, Glenda Evans of Jonesboro and Fredia Kellim of St. Louis; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2007, in Central Baptist Church with Archie Mason and Rex Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.

Edna G. Mandrell, 95, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 in Greene Acres Nursing Home at Paragould. She was born February 28, 1911, the daughter of the late Oscar and Dollie Powell Norman. She was a housewife and a member of Beech Grove Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Mandrell; her parents; and her siblings.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews.

Ronald Wayne Howard


Ronald Wayne Howard passed from this life on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Born January 5, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas, to Billy G. Howard and Dorothy Borchers Howard, Wayne spent his early childhood in Arlington, Texas. At age 12 he moved with his family to Paragould, where he graduated Paragould High School in 1971. Wayne received a Bachelor of Science from Arkansas State University in 1976.

Wayne lived briefly in West Plains, Mo., then Kennett, Mo., before returning to Paragould, where he worked for Martin Sprocket and Gear. After retiring as Plant Manager, he worked full-time as a homebuilder. He has been known locally for the past decade as a builder of quality homes.

He is preceded in death by his mother.

His survivors include his daughter, Allison Howard and her mother Arlene, both of Paragould; a very special friend, Cathy Burkhart of Paragould; his father Bill and his wife Barbara of San Antonio, Texas; a sister Gale Gonzalez and her husband, Raul of Dallas, Texas; a brother, John Howard and his wife, Kimberly, and her son, Drexel Armstrong of Arlington, Texas; a niece Julie Paul Pendergrass, and her children Madison and Will, of Houston, Texas; two nephews George Hoyt of Austin, Texas; and Michael Foss of Lubbock, Texas.

Services are 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, at Heath Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul DuBar officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Heath Funeral Home.

Gloria Jean Chaffin, 61, of Paragould, died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
A homemaker, she was born October 10, 1945, in Paragould.
Survivors include two sons, Shane Chaffin of Paragould, Steven Chaffin of Batesville; one daughter, Janet Chaffin of Paragould; and the father of her children, Charles Chaffin of Paragould. She is also survived by two brothers, Dennis Janes of Little Rock, Jerry Don Janes of O’Fallon, Missouri; one sister, Janet Thompson; and by four grandchildren.
Mrs. Chaffin was preceded in death by her grandparents who raised her, John “Pop” Schultz and Lizzie “Granny” Schultz; her mother, Alyene Janes; and by one son, Rodney Chaffin.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Graveside service will be Friday, January 26th, 1:30 P.M. at New Friendship with Junior Vester officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:10 p.m., Friday.

Harold Duane Dickinson



Harold Duane Dickson, 63, of Marmaduke passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1943, in Marmaduke to Harold and Lorene Rodgers Dickinson, who preceded him in death. He was joined in marriage to Lynda Jean Stahl of Rector on July 10, 1965.

He was a tool-and-die maker and retired owner of Dickinson Custom Tooling in Marmaduke. He was a lifetime resident of Marmaduke and member of Union Central Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Dickinson of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melanie Dickinson of Marmaduke and Jennifer and Shanon Anthony of Paragould; two granddaughters, Jordan MaLyn and Maggie Lou Mays; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Shirley Dickinson and Rick and Linda Dickinson; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Louise Moore, all of Paragould; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Abel and Velma Stahl of Boydsville.

Also surviving are two nieces, Debbie Sabo of Little Rock and Lisa Martin of Forrest City; four nephews, Steve Dickinson of Little Rock and Chris Dickinson, Jason Moore and Jake Moore, all of Paragould; one great-niece; and three great-nephews; along with a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be this evening at Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke from 6-9.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Central Church of Christ with Barry Joiner and Tim Woolridge officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of the Union Central Church of Christ.

Loy Lee Higgins



Loy Lee Higgins 82, of Paragould died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was born March 16, 1924, in Paragould to the late Ernest and Maude Hyde Higgins. He was a retired farmer and of Methodist belief.

Loy was also preceded in death by his wife, Violet Higgins; grandson, Dennis Lawrence; brothers, Leonard, Olen, Glenn, Nolen and Willard Higgins; sisters, Flossie Parkinson Shewmaker, Florence Pfiefer, Maxine Harbin, Alma Collis and Flora Belle Higgins.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Donald Lawrence of Wynne; one sister, Dorothy MacFarland of Pearland, Texas; and one brother, Charlie Ernest Higgins of Kerrville, Texas.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Royce Boling officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today at Heath Funeral Home.

Billy Carl Fielder

 


Billy Carl Fielder, 78, of Marmaduke died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at his residence. He was born March 24, 1928, in Brighton, AR., to the late Myrle and Beatrice Shatley Fielder. He was a United States Army veteran in the Korean Conflict. He was a retired farmer and truck driver, and member of Solid Rock non-denominational church in Kennett.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lou Davidson Fielder; a brother, Jim Fielder; and sister, Venetta Higgins.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Renay and Rick Farmer of Marmaduke, Beverly and Charles Bearden of Boydsville, and Karen and John Tracy, III of Gideon, MO.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael V. and Pamela Fielder of Franklin Grove, IL.; two brothers, Bobby Fielder of Hudson, Fla., and Jack Fielder of Clinton, AR.; a sister, Nancy Bull of Springfield, MO.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will meet at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector for a graveside service at 1 p.m., Saturday with the Rev. Allan Gentry officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 10 a.m.to noon at Heath Funeral Home.

Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers.

Daniel P. Kriske Sr., age 45, of Wonder Lake, died Thursday, January 25, 2007, at Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry.

He was born on March 16, 1961, in Chicago to Ronald E. and Helen J. (McCarthy) Kriske. On Oct. 2, 1979, he married Barbara A. Miller in Chicago.

Formerly of Chicago, Daniel had been a resident of Wonder Lake for the past 10 years. He was employed at Chicago Boiler Company for over 20 years as an industrial painter. He enjoyed wood crafts and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of 27 years; four children, Daniel (Heidi Krunig) Kriske Jr. of Cardwell, Mo., Jonathan Kriske of Wonder Lake, Jeremy (Kristine Lutz) Kriske of Wonder Lake, and Nichole Kriske of Wonder Lake; four grandchildren, Brandon, Brianna, Haley and Riley; his mother, Helen (McCarthy) Kriske of Wonder Lake; stepmother, Virginia Shanholtz; three brothers, Kevin Kriske of Portland, Ore., Ronnie (Helen) Kriske of Chicago, Johnny Kriske of Darien, Wis.; and a sister, Kathleen (Dan) Walsh of Wonder Lake.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - noon., prior to services, which will begin at noon, on Wednesday, January 31, at the New Friendship Baptist Church in Paragould. Interment will be in New Friendship Cemetery, Paragould, Arkansas.

Wilburn Eugene Smith, 88, of Paragould died January 27, 2007 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Born August 24, 1918 in Paragould, he was retired from the U. S. Air Force with the rank of First Master Sgt., was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, was a member of the V. F. W. and the American Legion, was a Mason and Shriner and a member of Paragould First Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Buddie Gene and Karen Smith of Edmond, Oklahoma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrion and Robert Montgomery of Paragould and Patricia and Tim Kersey of Desert Hills, Arizona, and by two grandchildren, Bruce Smith and Anna Canaday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mazie Stacy Smith and two brothers.

Bertha Juanita Burton, 85, of Paragould died Friday, Jan. 27, in Senath Nursing Center in Missouri.

She was a homemaker and of the General Baptist belief.

Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Burton; her parents; and two sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl Ann Burton of Senath; two sisters, Flois Mae Collins and Lois Faye Schaefer, both of Walnut Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack E. DuBar



Jack E. DuBar, 78, of Bono died Saturday, January 27, 2007at his residence.

Born February 25, 1928 in Marmaduke, he lived most of his life in Northeast Arkansas areas. He worked at several different cotton gins as a cotton ginner. He was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include five sons, Eddie and Gene DuBar, both of Jonesboro, Elbert DuBar of Bono, Earnie DuBar of St. Croix, NSW, Australia, and Vernon DuBar of Lake City; one daughter, Gloria DuBar Brown of Jonesboro; one sister, Myrtle Barry of Paragould; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Eva Smith DuBar; one son, Gerald DuBar; and one grandson, Wesley DuBar.

Active pallbearers will include Brad DeBorde, David Cupp, Jason Jernigan, Marcus DuBar, David Hudson and Steve Emmons. Honorable pallbearers include Walter Smith, Danny Phiefer, Garland Gilmore, Dean Mote, Glen Worlow and Rick Colburn.

Joseph C. Lemmons


Joe C. Lemmons succumbed to his battle with cancer on Jan. 27, 2007, in Searcy, Ark., at the age of 85. He was born on Nov. 29, 1921, in Paragould, Ark., the son of Ivan and Eva Greenway Lemmons. He served as a Marine Sgt. in WW II in the Pacific Islands and Washington D.C. from 1942-46. He received a BA degree from Harding College in 1949. He was a preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ for churches in Hamilton and Chillicothe, Mo.; Rochester, N.Y.; New Egypt and Freehold, N.J.; Idaho Springs and Parker, Colo. He was the moving force behind the establishment of the churches in Chillicothe and Freehold. During his time in New Jersey, he was also a social worker for the State of New Jersey in the Youth and Family Services division for 15 years. He and his wife Lois were both active with the WCMC Auxillary. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; a sister, Noma; and three brothers, Bernard, Donald and Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois (Hemingway) Lemmons; five children, Karen Mason and Anita Lietzke of Fayetteville, Ark., Wayne Lemmons of Sarasota, Fla., J. Lemmons of Searcy, Brian Lemmons of Kings Park, NY; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Joe's love for God and his family took precedence over everything else in life. His quiet strength and deep faith were an encouragement to everyone who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Searcy Children’s Home or Paragould Children’s Home.

Visitation will be at Cloverdale Church of Christ on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Pine Knot Church of Christ Cemetery, south of Paragould.

An Air Force veteran, Mr. Lam was born January 24, 1948, in Paragould. He was a tool and die machinist and a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church, Paragould, since 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Lam of the home; his mother, Lucille Lam of Paragould; one daughter, Brittney Lam of the home; two stepsons, John Newsom of the home; and Eric Newsom of Bay. He is also survived by two sisters, Renia Stokes and Drendia Coleman, both of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hester “Heck” Lam; one daughter, Sharon Lam; and one half-brother, James Haskel Lam.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 2nd, at Brown’s Chapel Cemetery in Paragould, with Royce Boling officiating.
Leroy Coker, Vincent Flood, Andy Stokes, Erick Stokes, Jeremy Coleman, and Bobby Russ will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials for Mr. Lam may be made to Mitchell Funeral Home.

Charles Mitchell Baker



Charles Mitchell Baker, 51, of Kensett, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007. He was born July 13, 1955 in Riverside, California, to the late Charles M. and Annalene Barnett Baker. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lonnie Baker.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Tressie Baker of Kensett; three sons, Matthew Baker and his wife Samantha, Lonnie Baker and Bobby Berry and his wife Tiffany, all of Kensett; three daughters, Shanna Baker, Crystal Holland and her husband Larry, and Kerrie Baker all of Kensett; also many other kids that loved him and called him Dad; two sisters, Loretta Morgan of Searcy and Sandra Swanson and her husband Clay of Kensett; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, February 2, 2007 at Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Searcy-McEuen Chapel. Interment will follow at Gray Cemetery in Gravel Hill.

Inas Miriam Treadway



Inas Miriam Treadway, 87, of Paragould, died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born January 9, 1920 in Greene County, she retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of Pine Knott Church of Christ.
Mrs. Treadway is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Melba Treadway of Carlisle, Arkansas, Tommy and Betty Treadway of Berry, Alabama; and one daughter and son-in-law, Nadine & Jacksie Jamison of Oak Grove Heights. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jacksie Dean Jamison and Darron Jamison of Paragould, Russ Treadway of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Sheila Lea of Carlisle, and Tonya Martin of Little Rock; seven great grandchildren; and by one great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Anna Mae Williams; her husband, Lawrence Treadway; one son, Jim Treadway; one brother, Richard Williams; and by one sister, Dorothy Miller
Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 2nd, 2:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Swindle officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Knott Cemetery.
Jacksie Dean Jamison, Darron Jamison, Jarred Jamison, Blake Jamison, Tyler Jamison, Jordan Jamison, and Russ Treadway will serve as pallbearers.

Martha Juel Jackson Hopkins


Services for Martha Juel Jackson Hopkins, 91, of Carthage, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Carthage Church of Christ, with Brother Buddy Bankhead and Brother Mark Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hopkins was born August 17, 1915, in Greene County, Ark. She was a longtime teacher for Carthage I.S.D. and active member of Carthage Book Forum.

Survivors include her son, Harold David Hopkins.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
