James "Jesse" Janes



J. H. (Jesse) Janes, 80, Paragould, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 after a long battle with kidney disease. Jesse was born in Greene County, AR., February 9, 1930 the son of the late Earnest and Nannie Janes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers in law, Ray May and Johnnie Davis, nephews, Jerry and Donald May. He was a long time used car dealer in the Paragould area.

Survivors to cherish his memory are brother and wife: Mack and Fritzi Janes of Marion, IL; sisters: Lee May of Clio, MI, Jean Davis of West Covina, CA; nephews: Richard and Martie May, Michael Davis, Tommy Mack Janes; nieces: Janet Davis O'Dil, Diane Davis Dixon, Kim Janes Reynolds and several grand nieces and nephews along with many friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning, January 6th, 11:00 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Wayne Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Nora Dacus
 


Nora Demariless Dacus, 94, passed away peacefully at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL., Saturday January 1, 2011 to join her beloved husband, Alvin.

She is survived by her daughter and husband: Pansy Ruth and Curt Horn Sr. of St. Peters, MO; son and wife: Lanny Ross and Ellen Dacus of St. Petersburg, FL; grandsons and wives: Curt Horn Jr. and Mary of Taylors, SC, James Matthew and Heidi Dacus of Pompano Beach, FL, Michael Edward Middleton of Gainesville, FL; granddaughters: Lisa Horn Schwegler of St. Peters, MO, Robin Dacus Teel and husband Steven of Wyckoff, NJ; great grandsons: Curtis, Daniel, Ross, Gavin, Payne and Maxwell; great granddaughters: Jessica and Kailyn; brother and wife: Chester and Christine May of Little Rock, AR and many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. She lived a full life and will be missed.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning, January 6th, 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Heath Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Heath Colonial Chapel with Milton Davis May officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Sandra Gail Reddick



Sandra Gail Reddick, 69, of Paragould passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born November 2, 1941, Sandra was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Don Reddick; parents Verlous and Mimia Justeen Davis Horne and brother, Harold Bishop. Sandra was the only child born to Verlous and Mimia Justeen Horne.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Mitzie Reddick of Paragould; daughter, Donna Horner of Paragould. Granddaughters Kasey and Breanne Reddick, special great niece and nephew, Marsha Copeland and Keith Williams. Sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Bob Routh of Paragould, Linda and Rodney Boydstun of Jonesboro, Alversia Hale of Rockwall, TX, Pat Thayer and Pauline Stange of Michigan; brother, Duane Bishop of Michigan and nieces, nephews and other family members. Sandra’s dogs were a special part of her life. They are Rodney, Rebel, Ruben and Jaxon.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 5th, 10:00 a.m. in the Heath Colonial Chapel with Everett Isom, Tim Wooldridge, John Snyder and Philip Keeling officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ted and Troy Foster, Keith Williams, Chris Blackshear, Steve Copeland, Dex Gardner. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Wood, Philip Keeling, Steve Riggs, Rod Faulkner, Curt Liddell, Gary Wise, Jerry Terry, Bill Blevins, Thomas Lindsey.

Ray Allen Goodwin



Ray Allen Goodwin, was born February 12, 1938. He passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 72, on January 2, 2011, just a few days short of the birthday he shared with President Abraham Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray H. and Helen Goodwin, and his brother, Phil of West Virginia, who passed away while on a hunting trip in Wyoming last November.


His survived by his wife of 47 years , the former Kay Monk; and his sons, Mark of Jonesboro, and James (Laura) of Austin, TX.; his brother, Mike (Linda) of Boerne, TX, his sister, Linda Seale of Bastrop, TX, sister-in-law, Pam Goodwin of Charlotte WV, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Jim and Lynn Monk of Little Rock. Goodwin was a graduate of Hendrix College and the SMU Law School. Ray practiced law in Paragould for more than 45 years as a member of Paragould’s oldest law firm, most recently know as Goodwin Moore LLP. He was proud that he and his partner, Harry Truman Moore, practiced together for over 35 years, longer than any two other partners in the firm’s 121 year history. Ray considered himself as being one of the last true “General Practice” lawyers in the state. He had an active estate planning and probate practice, practiced criminal law in the state and federal courts, and handled complex business litigation against some of the state and region’s largest law firms. He was honored by his peers through his selection as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” and “Best Lawyers in Arkansas.” He served as President of the Greene-Clay Bar Association and was honored by the state bar with a “Golden Gavel” award for his service as chair of its “Committee for the Legal Services for the Deaf. ” He was a Paul Harris Fellow and served as President of the Paragould Rotary Club. He chaired the Greene County Library Board and also served by appointment by Gov. David Pryor on the Arkansas State Library Commission. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he chaired the church board, sang in the choir, and taught the “Alpha” Sunday Class for over 25 years.

 
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 8th, 1:00 p.m. in the Welcome Center of the First United Methodist Church in Paragould. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church, with Rev. Tom Letchworth officiating, with poetry presented by his former partner, retired Judge Gerald Brown, and the eulogy by his partner, Harry Truman Moore. Memorials may be made to the FUMC Paragould Building Fund, Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, or Hendrix College.

Foy Eugene Batey


Foy Eugene Batey, 89, of Cape Coral, Florida., formerly of Paragould, passed away January 3, 2011, following a lengthy illness.

Born February 6, 1921, in Paragould, he was the son of Joe and Verna Johns Batey. A U.S. Army veteran, he retired from General Motors in Michigan in 1976. He had lived in Florida for 35 years and was a member of the Concord Road Church of Christ in Orlando.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane; five brothers, Guthel Batey, Preston Batey, Carlos Batey, Pete Batey and Joe Batey; and three sisters, Doris, Javee and Javone.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gladys Robinson Batey; a son, Norman Batey and wife Ann, Paragould; a sister, Janice Simmons and husband Paul, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Irene Batey, Paragould, and Berky Davidson and husband Mel, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, Charles Robinson and wife Dora, Arkansas; two grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 8th, 10:00 a.m. at the Mulberry Church of Christ in Paragould with Robert Hammitt officiating. Burial was in Croft Cemetery near Paragould under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Henry Robert Gibson



Henry Robert Gibson, 53, of Paragould passed away Monday, January 3, 2011, of cancer.

He is survived by his mother, Bella Gibson; sisters, Addie and Nancy; brothers, Dickey and Dewey; children, Beth, Christy and Robert; ex-wife, Sheila; three stepchildren; six grandchildren; and many friends.

A private service is planned.

David Edward Smoker



David Edward Smoker, 79, Paragould, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born June 17, 1931 in Burr Oak, Michigan the son of the late Edward and Alma Sikorski Smoker. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Veasey Smoker and his brother, Floyd Smoker. He was retired after 45 1/2 years from Darling Store Fixtures and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He loved hunting, fishing and golfing.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Kathy Smoker, Steve and Lana Smoker, Barry and Darlene Smoker; daughter and son-in-law: Lori and Kevin Thompson, all of Paragould; grandchildren: Sara Smoker, Mallory Williams, Marshall, Mackenzie, and Maggie Thompson.

A public rosary will be held Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. His life will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Friday, January 7th, 10:00 a.m. with Father Jack Vu and Deacon Rex Bouldin officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.
Pallbearers are Mark Woodruff, David Flanery, Stanley Carmack, Dwayne Frakes, Don Tabor, Dick Chiles, Jerry Hoepfl, and Harlon Barron.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. Mary's Catholic School, 220 N. 2nd Street, Paragould, AR 72450.

Susan Forrester



Susan Forrester, 88, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center, Jonesboro.

She was born February 8, 1922 in Peach Orchard to the late Samuel and Eva Maynard. She was an inspector with General Electric for many years and enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Danny Forrester of Jonesboro and Larry Forrester of Fayetteville; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Mike Etter of Jonesboro; a step-daughter and her husband, Charlette and Ron Wamble of Marion; a sister, Leoria Crouch of Pocahontas; three grandchildren, Dawn Merrell of Jonesboro, Greg Forrester of Fayetteville and Brad Forrester of College Station, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Emily Merrell and Reece Merrell.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Pharus Levi Forrester; a brother, Lehman Maynard; three sisters, Lela Wagner, Victoria Clark and Ruth Young.

A celebration of her life will be held Friday, January 7th, 2:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Jimmy Adcox officiating. Burial will follow at the Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 6th, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Joy Lee Greitens


Joy Lee Greitens, 68, of Marked Tree passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Allegiance Specialty Hospital in Little Rock.

She worked as a medical records clerk in Great Lakes Naval Hospital at Chicago. She was a clerk at John Frank Drug and Craft Jewelers in Marked Tree for many years.

She was active in the Republican Party of Northeast Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leona Kieffner; husband, Jerry Greitens Sr.; and brothers, Jimmie and Phillip Kieffner.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Greitens Jr. of Marked Tree and Thomas Greitens (Lesley) of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; daughter, Carrie Skipper (Doug) of Lepanto; sister, Betty Reinier of Paragould; grandchildren, Sharleenia Bodnovich, Charlie, Caleb and Joshua Skipper; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 8th, 10:00 until11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 with Ron Lovins officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Artie Mae Brewer Hillis



Artie Mae Brewer Hillis, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mrs. Hillis, daughter of the late Richard (Dick) Brewer and Mary (May) Waggoner Brewer was born February 22, 1921.
On January 1, 1937, she married Thomas Nelson Hillis at Cash, AR. He preceded her in death June 23, 1990.

Artie was a farmer's wife and homemaker as well as the mother of six children. She was
familiar with hard work-picking a lot of cotton and canning a lot of fruits and vegetables. She
was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo and a former member of
Providence Baptist Church in Marmaduke, AR.

She was the oldest of five children and the only girl. She is survived by three brothers; Donald Brewer of Huntsville, AR, Leamon Brewer of Ash Flat, AR, and Freman Brewer of Cash, AR.

Surviving children include: Violet (Harold) Condray of Ellsinore, MO, Opal (Tom) Aden
of Cape Giradeau, MO, Floyd (Jan) Hillis of Owensboro, KY, Henry Hillis of Hawaii, Ruth
(Jerry) Jenkins of Nashville, TN., twelve grandchildren include: Randy (Lisa) Marshall, Sheila (Ritchie) Calvert, Shannon (John) Poole of Poplar Bluff, MO, Anita Zimmerman of W. Palm Beach, FL, Byron (Dana)
Aden of Cape Girardeau, MO, Bruce Aden of Afghanistan, Amy (Brian) Crafford of Paducah, KY, Michael Credille of Broseley, MO, Susan (Mel) McCarty of Columbus, MS, Will (Kerri)
Hillis of Mt. Juliet, TN, Emma Hillis of Owensboro, KY.
Also included are eighteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother - John Richard and a daughter - Virgie (Mickey) Credille, and a granddaughter - Carla Credille Austin.

Visitation will be Friday evening 5:00 until 7:00 at the Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 8th, 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, Lafe, AR.
Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery, Lafe.

Violet Bera Cannon



Violet Bera Cannon, 87, of Paragould, formerly of New Jersey, passed away January 4, 2011, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Mrs. Cannon was born September 7, 1923, in Hazleton, PA., to the late Valentine and Laura Bera. Her favorite flower was a violet and she loved her coffee and working crossword puzzles.
Survivors include, a daughter, Carol Queen of Paragould; a sister, Cecelia Biagotti of Vineland, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Schaffter, Michelle Queen, Deborah Queen Williams, Kathleen Komberg, Laura Adams, Jaime Queen Edson and Elizabeth Cannon; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces and other family and friends.
Family requests a private service and disposition under the direction of Faith Funeral Service, Manila.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at 1st National Bank in Paragould.

Martha Sue Greer Wise



Martha Sue Greer Wise, 68, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in Jonesboro. She was born August 4, 1942.

Survivors include daughters: Kelley Hueppauff and Sherrie Greer; grandchildren: Cody Dewayne Greer, Kyle Andrew Clover, Anthony Breckenridge, and Danny Greer.
She was preceded in death by parents, Billy Wayne and Lennie Ezell, son, Danny Greer, and brother, Billy Ezell, Jr.

Funeral services will Friday, January 7th, 1:00 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home, with burial following at Linwood Cemetery.

Charles Randall Anderson



Charles Randall “Chuck” Anderson, 68, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Belle Meade Healthcare.

Charles was born October 11, 1942. He was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ and was previously a member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ. He worked in the maintenance department for Crowley’s Ridge College, and then for the Paragould School District before retiring in 2001. In the past, he worked for the Cottonwood Police Department as a dispatcher, and also was a radio announcer for many years while living in Cottonwood, Arizona.

Survivors include his wife, Neva (Dawson) Anderson of the home; one son, Lance Christopher Anderson of Paragould; one daughter Heather Renee and her husband, Dr. Charles Liggett of Ft. Smith. He is also survived by three sisters, Louise Caudle of Little Rock, Charlene Lisle of Mesa, Arizona, and Elaine Ruiz and her husband, Gary, of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Emery Addyson and Piper Jayne of Ft. Smith; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law whom he loved as his own family.

Charles was preceded in death by one precious son, Charles Paul; his parents, Virdo and Lessie (Hannah) Anderson; one brother, Ralph Anderson; and two sisters, Voncille Morris and Jenelle Allen.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 8th, 1:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Edwin Land of Searcy and Art Smith of Paragould officiating. Music will be provided by the Jearl Howard Singers. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Gary Caudle, Curtis Anderson, Brian Carter, Adam Hampton, Jason Hampton, and Kerry Dawson.

Gayle McGloflin Eden
 


Gayle McGloflin Eden (born Mary Ethyl Prock), wife of John E. Eden, adopted daughter of Margaret and Harold McGloflin, passed away January 5, 2011, at her home in Paragould, AR. at the age of 76 following a long illness. She was born June 5, 1934 at Little Rock, AR. Gayle and John were married December 20, 1958 in San Diego, CA where they lived until they moved to Paragould, AR in July, 2005.

Gayle is survived by her husband: John, two daughters, Cherryl Ash of Tucson, AZ., Margaret Orona of Morrilton, AR., and one son, Geoffrey Eden of Santa Ana, CA., four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving, two sisters, Sally McGloflin Mobley of Morrilton, AR., Christine Prock Melton of Clayton, IN., two brothers, Sterling Prock of Danville, IN., and Perris Prock of Lebanon, MO. She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Gayle was a member of First United Methodist Church of Paragould, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and accomplished artist and devoted homemaker.

Cremation is under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould, AR. A memorial service will be held at a later date and internment will be at the 100F Cemetery, Monett, MO. Memorials may be sent to the scholarship fund at the First United Methodist Church, 1600 N. Central Ave., Monett, Mo..65708.

Ruben Overman



Ruben Harrison Overman, 74, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Greene Acres Nursing Home.

Born August 22, 1936, in Caraway, Mr. Overman was retired from Crittenden Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Overman of the home; three sons, Phillip Overman of Brookland, Roger Overman of Jonesboro and Ruben Overman Jr. of Lobelville, Tenn.; and two daughters, Beth Shoupe of Paragould and Lesley Jones of Jonesboro. He is also survived by a stepson, Christopher Baker of Marion; three stepdaughters, Sandra West of Marion, Donna Sandoval of Paragould and Penny Taylor of West Memphis; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Emma Overman; one brother, Frank Overman; and one sister, Shirley Farley.

Visitation will be Saturday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 9th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Monette Cemetery.

Jeremiah Luther Jones



Born May 30, 1981, Jeremiah "J" Luther Jones, 29, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his home. He had cerebral palsy.

Survivors include his mother, Debbie Jones; sister: Stephanie Jones of Paragould; half-sister: Ann Mooney and Lana Turner of Jonesboro; half-brother: Steve Jones of Little Rock, Andy Jones of Paragould and Tim Jones of Paragould; grandparents: Ramona Becker and Glen Morgan; special nieces and nephews: Tiffany Freetag and Lukas Jones and several other nieces and nephews.
His father, Luther Jones, sister, Ginger Jones and grandparents preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Monday, January 10th, 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., at Heath Funeral Home with services at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Reverend Wayne Faulkner officiating. William Keith Holaway



William Keith Holaway, 65 of Paragould passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his residence. Keith was born July 24, 1945, he was retired from ADT working in Quality Control. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Holaway; parents, William Holaway, Jr. & Lillie Leah Hallmark Holaway; step-son, Larry Andrews.
Survivors include step-daughter, Pat Lane of Dixie, AR; step-sons, George Andrews of Vanzant, MO and Mike Andrews of Heber Springs, AR; sister & brother-in-law, Kay and Richard Kimberlin of Berryville, AR; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joey and Tannda Holaway, Jimmy and Linda Holaway, Michael and Judy Holaway all of Paragould, Marty Holaway of Farmington, MO, and several step-grandchildren.

Shirlene Miller

 

Shirlene Miller, 83, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Cornerstone Hospice House in Lake Tavares, Florida.

Shirlene was born August 14, 1927, in Walcott to the late Shirley and Mollie Wince. She was a retired school teacher with 40 years of service and was a member of the Villages Church of Christ in Florida. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Paul Wince and Wilburn Wince and four sisters, Ruth Williams, Bernice Bryson, Bessie Blanton and Geraldine Parker.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Maurice Miller of the home, one brother, Mack Wince, one sister, Darlene Phillips and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jimmy Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Walcott.

Pallbearers include Andy Bryson, Jack Bishop, Holmes Phillips, J.C. Moses, Donald Barker and Brad Shumpert.

There will be no visitation.

Aaron Winfred Andis, of Muscle Shoals, AL., passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow in Barton Cemetery.

Mr. Andis was a native of Delaplaine, Ark. He was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the GM V8 engine plant in Flint, MI. Mr. Andis was a Mason, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the UAW Local 659 in Flint, MI., a member of Old Fashion Baptist Church, of Grand Blanc, Mich., and was active in the Ford City Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Nell Andis; son, Alan Wayne Andis; and daughter, Helen Marie Andis.
Survivors include his son, Winfred Dale Andis and wife, Denise; daughters, Dottie Lou Andis Wheeler and husband, Gary, and Patricia Gail Campbell and husband, Delvin; brothers, Donald Andis, Earl Andis and Leonard Andis; sisters, Alice Stevens, Edith Back and Pat Lopez; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers are Joseph Thomas, Timothy Forbs, Bruce Forbs, Samuel Forbs, Terry Ross, Charlie Potoski, Douglas Shirley, Jeremy Andis and Jason Andis.

Minnie I. Rowland
 

Minnie I. Rowland, 88, of Paragould passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Minnie was born November 27, 1922. She was a retired homemaker and a housekeeper at AMMC, where she worked for over twenty years.

Minnie married Ones on April 18, 1942 in Greene County, Arkansas. She and Ones owned and operated Rowland's Grocery for many years. Minnie was a member of Walcott Baptist Church, where she also had a very loving family.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Vell (Taylor) Shipley, husband, Ones E. Rowland, son, Ronnie Rowland, sisters, Carrie Rowland, Verna Lentz, Mable Garner, brothers, David Clinnie and Earl Shipley.

Survivors include brother: Tom Shipley; son and daughter in law: Donnie and Judy Rowland of Stanford; daughters and son in law: Kathy Foresythe of Las Vegas, NV, Joan Jones of Walnut Ridge and June and Jim Shultz of Walnut Ridge; grandchildren: Darren, Sean, Gregory, Angela, Todd, Matthew, Laura, David, Christy, Joshua, Rusty and Jamie, twenty two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home, Paragould. The celebration of her life will be Wednesday, January 12th, 1:00 p.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Marion F. Cornett officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

R L Rickard, 80, of Paragould, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Manila Nursing Home.

Mr. Rickard was born February 22, 1930, in Monette and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and also served aboard the Presidential yacht under Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy. He retired from the Navy with a rating of Chief Boatswain’s Mate.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Kristin Rickard of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Bobby and Sherry Rickard of Bentonville; and one daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Paul Shenep of Proctor, Arkansas. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Odell and R.A. Davidson of Manila, Opal and Ernie Thacker of Michigan; six grandchildren, Amanda Rogers, Craig Wheat, Raechel Rickard, Kennedy Rickard, Olivia Rickard, and Parker Rickard; and two great grandchildren, Chandler Rogers and Claire Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Effie Rickard; his wife, Gloria Rickard; and one sister, Melva Weatherford.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

Funeral service will be Thursday, January 13th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with L.R. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Beulah M. Forkum



Beulah M. Forkum, 80, Paragould, passed away Monday, January 10, 2011at St Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born September 28, 1930 the daughter of the late Henry and Cynthia McCall. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters and two brothers. She was a devout Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her church family at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where she was a member for about 64 years.

Survivors include her husband: Norman Forkum of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Irene & Dennis Gregory of Paragould, Mary and Wesley Laws of the Finch area, Janie Wilson of Jonesboro; son: Ronnie Joe and Linda Forkum of the Finch area; grandchildren: Michael and Tonya Laws, Aaron Forkum, Karla Gladish, Angie Jackson, Amy Morrison, Wesley Gregory, Anthony Halcomb and Shannon Stevens; and twelve great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home, Paragould. Her life will be celebrated at Thursday, January 13th, 11:00 a.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Sam Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Old Bethel Cemetery. Junior D. Smith
 

Junior D. Smith, 85, of Jonesboro passed from this life Monday January 10, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. He was born May 31, 1925 in Lorado to David Franklin and Ozella Hall Smith. He worked in the engineering department at St. Bernards and farmed. He also worked at Frolic Footwear. Junior served two years in the U.S. Army. He loved fishing and yard work.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Haynes Smith; his parents; a son, Larry Wayne Smith and a granddaughter, Tammy Joe Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Don Smith of Jonesboro and Jerry Wayne Smith of Brookland; eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Margie Lee of Bay and Imogene Hicks of Paragould.

Mary Marjorie DePriest Kuykendall, 80, Marmaduke, passed away Tuesday January 11, 2011at her residence. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Marmaduke 1st Baptist Church. She was born September 26, 1930, near Schugtown, the daughter of the late William Andrew and Thelma Franks DePriest. She was also preceded in death by brothers Robert and Albert DePriest and son, William Van Kuykendall.

She is survived by her husband: Kenneth Kuykendall, of the home; daughter and son-in-law: Carol and Ed Clary of Paragould; son and daughter-in-law: Dennis and Janemarie Kuykendall of Bentonville, AR; daughter-in-law: Vicki Kuykendall of Paragould; brother and sister-in-law: Glen and Betty DePriest of Paragould; sisters-in-law, Faye and Mary DePriest; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Harlan Ralph Welch

 

Harlan Ralph Welch, 86, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Rector Health Care in Rector, AR. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a World War II Veteran. Harlan was born November 10, 1925.

He was the son of the late Hugh and Emma Dieker Welch. He was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Louise Welch and three children.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 14th, 10:00 until11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lafe. Following visitation, his life will be celebrated at St. John's with Rev. Born April 25, 1930, in Red Onion, MO., Mrs. Edge was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Kristy Edge; and two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise and Gerald Miller and Sheila Edge, all of Arbyrd. She is also survived by one sister, Lucille Rouse of Paragould; nine grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lilly McLain; her husband, Henry Howard Edge; one son, Kenneth Coppus Edge; five brothers; and one sister.

Basil Nolton Bigelow, 73, of Marmaduke, passed away January 11, 2011 at his home. Born June 17, 1937 in Flint, Michigan, he had lived in Marmaduke since 1997. He loved going hunting and motorcycles; however his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Robert Bigelow, Michigan, Sharon Pruett, Marmaduke, Patty Simmons, Falmouth, Michigan, Cathy Offerman, Saginaw, Michigan; brother, Butch Bigelow, Pontiac, Michigan; sisters, Lorraine Hopkins, Fenton, Michigan, Linda Owens, Byhalia, Mississippi, Marilyn Langley, Michigan; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Bigelow; his parents, Nolton & Maravene Bigelow; and his step-father who raised him, Frederick Bigelow.

Jack L. Blackshear, Sr., 95, of Little Rock, formerly of Paragould, passed away at his residence Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Born November 29, 1915, Jack was retired owner of Hurt Grocery Company and a member of 1st United Methodist Church of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hildegarde Blackshear, parents, Arvil and Maggie Ligon Blackshear; brother, Joseph C. Blackshear and sister Margaret Springer.

Norman Duane Batten, 54 of Marmaduke passed away January 13, 2011 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1956 to the late JW and Beatrice (Smith) Batten in Flint, Michigan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Terry Batten and a sister: Diane Madison.

Surviving Norman is his two sisters: Bonnie Spurlock of Rector and Connie Coleman of Rector with a host of other relative and friends.

Robert Earle Johns



Robert Earle Johns, age 64, firstborn of Flavil and Juanita Johns on October 20, 1946, has gone from our eyes this day, January 13, 2011.

Robert was beloved husband to Patti (Harmon) Johns; devoted father to Alesia Malone and her husband, Steve, Heath Johns and his wife, Micah; and special grandfather to Tanna Mizell and her husband, Donaven, Robby Malone and Logan Johns. He was also big brother to Lance, Brant and Garth Johns, all of Paragould. He is survived by his amazing father, Flavil Johns; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

His mother, Juanita Johns preceded him in death. He was the retired manager of Hogland’s Motorcycle Shop and a member of the Church of Christ. Robert will truly be missed.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 15th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Ron Harmon of Killen, Alabama officiating. Burial will follow in Gainesville Cemetery.

Born September 17, 1918, Viola lived most of her life in Jonesboro she was an active member of the Fisher Street United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a lifetime member of the Civitan Club, and a Gideon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hillis Pratt Sr; parents, Charlie and Lena Gambill; brothers, Bill Gambill, Pete Gambill and Herbert Gambill; sisters, Ruby Mitchell and Jane Emerson.

Survivors include son, Hillis Pratt Jr. and wife Nivea of Mineral, Virginia; daughter, Sara Dickey and husband Bruce of Paragould; brother, Richard Gambill; sister, Lundie Bridger both of Jonesboro; grandson, Sam Dickey and wife Andrea; granddaughter, Sally Cunningham and husband Wayne; great granddaughters, Berry Ann and Ella; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 17th, 1:00 p.m. at Fisher Street United Methodist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. Nancy Rainwater officiating. Tom Jackson and Hillis Pratt Jr. will serve as eulogists.

Peggy Joyce Phillips, 72, of Germantown, TN., formerly of Paragould, passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Born June 21, 1938 in Marmaduke, she was a homemaker and a member of the Rector General Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Karen Phillips of Collierville, TN., one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Kevin Morris of Evansville, IN., one brother, Larry Cox of Paragould; three sisters, Louetta Bozsa of Freeburg, IL., Carolyn Manuel of Paragould, and Flora Sullivan of Warrington, MO., and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everitt and Pansy Cox; her husband, Rev. Jerry Phillips; three brothers, E. W., Chester, and Price Cox, and by one sister, Pat Smith.

Katherine Marie Kirkpatrick Bateman, 79, of Marmaduke passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011, at her residence. She was born December 9, 1931, to the late A.W. "Slim" and Ruby (Long) Kirkpatrick in Rector.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Velis Ray (Tootie) Bateman; a daughter, Janet Bateman, and two sisters, Melva Dean Wiley and Betty Jean Kirkpatrick.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Steve and Melanie Bateman of Marmaduke; three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Michael Jordan of Roseburg, OR., Peggy and Frank Wright of Dupont, WA., and Shawna and Darrin Boggs of Marmaduke, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Brenda was a waitress and she loved being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Melvin Eugene Robertson


Melvin Eugene Robertson, 77, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 16, 2011. He was born July 15, 1933 in Piggott, Arkansas to Arthur and Enda Robertson. He was an Army veteran and the founder of the Mission Outreach in Paragould. Melvin loved hunting and trapping and the outdoors.

Melvin is survived by his wife Ann of the home; two sons, Melvin Eugene Robertson, Jr. and Jimmy Dale “Shelia” Robertson of Paragould; four daughters, Melba “Chad” Babin of Houma, LA, Judy “Ronnie” Hammett of Brooklyn, AR, Linda”Marty” Harris of Hoxie, AR and Shelia “Donny” Blain of Jonesboro, AR; Three brothers, Joe, Johnie, and Don Robertson, and one sister, Rozella Stanley along with several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

Katie Marie Adams, 98, of Brookland, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011, at Belle Meade Healthcare.

Mrs. Adams was born September 6, 1912, in Brookland, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Earnest and Pearlene Adams of Brookland; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Stallcup; her husband, Charlie Adams; two sons, Jewel Junior Adams and Joe Edward Adams; one daughter, Katie Marie Rogers; and one sister.

There will be a private burial service and no visitation.

Leona Mae “Boots” Shelton Cole, 69, of Johnson City, TN, formerly of Hoxie, AR, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, January 17, 2011, at her residence. The daughter of the late George Newton and Lou Ann Pender Shelton was born July 1, 1941 in Greene County, AR. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Cole on June 25, 2007; four brothers, David Shelton; Jerry Don Shelton; Kenneth Shelton; Thomas Shelton; four sisters, Wanda Lee Easter; Verna Heath, Laverne Miller; Naomi Wilson.

Mrs. Cole was a homemaker who enjoyed oil painting and teaching people to paint. She attended Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Timothy Cole and wife, Paula, Swifton, AR.; Joseph A. Cole, of the home; six daughters, Esther McNutt, Judsonia, AR.; Eve Gates and husband, David, Black Rock, AR.; Eden West and husband, David, Belton, SC.; Rebekah Cole, Portia, AR.; Faith Cole Fain and husband, Curtis Fain II, Judsonia, AR.; Charity Lawrence and husband, Jeff, Ravenden, AR.; nineteen grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Pridemore and husband, Don, Cherokee Village, AR.; Wilma Brubaker, Atlanta, GA.; Sandra Heath, Atlanta, GA.; one brother, Harold Joe Shelton and wife, Wanda, Cherokee Village, AR. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The memorial service for Leona Mae “Boots” Shelton Cole will be conducted Thursday, January 20th, 2:00 p.m. at the Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ, Elizabethton with Pastor Donny Reagan and Rev. Darrell Ward officiating. The eulogy will be provided by Rev. Curtis Fain II. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday prior to the service 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.

A private inurnment will be conducted at a later time in Arkansas.

Claire Vivian Wyatt, 4 days old, of Memphis, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Methodist Germantown Hospital. She was born January 15, 2011, in Memphis.

Survivors include her parents, J. R. and Shay Wyatt, of the home; paternal grandparents, John and Bonnie Wyatt of Paragould; and maternal grandparents, William and Phyllis Wilkinson of Delaplaine. She is also survived by her paternal great grandmothers, Juanita Wyatt and Carolyn Highfill, both of Paragould.

Claire was preceded in death by great grandparents, William A. Wyatt, Bruce Highfill, Lola Vivian Highfill, Clacy R. Eveland, Mary Eveland, and Gilbert and Finnie Wilkinson.

Mrs. Jean Hinklin Scheller, 85, of Corning, AR., passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, AR. Mrs. Scheller was born November 4, 1925 in Clifton, TN., she was a homemaker, she enjoyed bible studies, witnessing to others, attending church, singing in the choir, gardening and cooking. She attended the House of Prayer in Corning.

She is survived by husband John Scheller of Knobel, AR.; three daughters Bonnie Jean Calhoun of Fairdealing, MO., Peggy Hallmark of Jonesboro, AR., Sherry and husband Vondel Taylor of Corning, AR.; one brother Henry Smith, Jr. of Lacon, IL.; three sisters Naomi Loyd of Paragould, AR., Inez Bell of Corning, AR., Earnestene Butler of Corning, AR.; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Virgil Hinklin November 9, 2000; parents Henry Hartwell and Sophie Mae (Hensley) Smith; one sister Betty Ward; and step-daughter Veda Mae Anderson.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 24th, 10:00 a.m. in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy McMasters officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Corning Cemetery.

Eula May Slatton, 86, of the Walcott community, passed away Friday, January 21, 2011 at Heritage Gardens of Senath, MO.

She was born on January 7, 1925 in Finch, Greene County, AR. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a remarkable cook, seamstress, and gardener, and as a lovely lady with a generous heart and infectious smile.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris Hagen of Paragould; grandsons, Shawn Hagen and his wife, Chandra of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Scott Fitzgerald of Paragould; three great grandsons, August Lyle Hagen, Glenn Fitzgerald, and Kane Fitzgerald; brothers, Guy Treece of Memphis and Bob Treece of Paragould, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tellas and Sadie Treece; her husband, J. D. Slatton; her daughter, Judy Ann Fitzgerald; two sisters, Evah Rhoads and Lola Pursel.

Born August 18, 1970 in Jonesboro, he was a lifetime resident of Brookland. He was an assembly worker of Martin Sprocket and Gear in Paragould. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Roy Johnston.

Joseph Henderson Box, 66, went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 22, 2011. He was born July 26, 1944 in Paragould, AR., to Ted and Glendola Box. “Joe” was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church and was a former employee of Emerson Electric. He was also a farmer that loved buying and selling “old farm equipment”.

He is survived by his children Ken C. and Donna Box of Paragould as well as Bobby and Tina Box of Paragould ; and one sister, Helen Mears of Cardwell MO., five grandchildren, Jessica, Lindsey, Robin, and Cameron Box, and Kasey (Larry ) Hensley; one great grandchild, Nichole Hensley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Enoch Box, three sisters, Juanita and Sylvia Davis and Freda Jackson.

She is preceded in death by husband Virgil Smith, son Dannie Rice, brothers, Albert, Joe and Ray Gates, sisters, Francis Varvil, Thelma Gillean, Cynthia Jones, Rachel Mustain, Ruby Rice, and Belle Rice.

She is survived by sons Jimmy (Rhonda) Rice and Tommy Rice both of Delaplaine, seven grandchildren: Melissa Tucker of Walnut Ridge, Danny Allen Rice of Vicksburg, MS, Kim Miller of Jackson, MS, Jeremy Rice of Vicksburg, MS, Jamie Rice also of Vicksburg, MS, Chris Rice of Delaplaine and Joey Rice of Pocahontas and several great grandchildren.

Velma Beatrice Clifford, daughter of the late Henry Davis and Mari Bell Johnson Davis, was born August 10, 1912, at Campbell, MO., and departed this life Sunday, January 23, 2011, at the age of 98, at Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould.

Velma was employed at Bussman Factory for over 20 years in St. Louis. She attended Lake Street Baptist Church in Paragould.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Karen Clifford of Paragould, and Charles and Betty Sutton of Anacoco, LA.; sister, Minta (Dude) E. Waller of Wentzville, MO.; granddaughter, Cathy Gray of Light; three grandsons and daughters-in-law Jerry Don and Connie Clifford, Terry Allen and Kim Clifford, and Todd and Shellie Clifford, all of Paragould; granddaughters and sons-in-law, Tonya and Marc Benefield of Paragould, and Candy and Robert Morris of TX; and granddaughter, Darlene Centanni of PA. She is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Velma was preceded in death by two sisters, Dolly Coleman and Lois King; four brothers, Lon Davis, Johnny Davis, Luther Davis and Charlie Davis; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Pollock.

 Elizabeth Ann Bailey, age 47, of Marmaduke, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011, at her home.

She was born May 23, 1963, to William and Dorothy Miller Southerly. Mrs. Bailey was an alumnus of the Paragould public school and she was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by: her mother, Dorothy Southerly of Marmaduke, four sons, Christopher Coward of St. Louis, MO., Harley Breckinridge of Lamar, CO., Dakota and Austin Bailey, both of Marmaduke, two brothers, David Southerly of Piggott, and Albert Southerly of Marmaduke, three sisters, Willadean Champrey of Estes Park, CO., Betty Niceschwander of Lamar, CO., and Rose Mooneyhan of Rector. Mrs. Bailey also leaves two grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her father; a brother, William Southerly, Jr.; a sister, Barbara Southerly, and one nephew, Justin Southerly.

Memorial services will held Thursday, January 27th, 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Marmaduke with Rev. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial followed in the Ramer's Chapel Cemetery.

Reba Huffman, 89, of Paragould passed from this life Tuesday January 25, 2011 at Greene Acres Nursing Home. She was born November 14, 1921 in Paragould to Sterl and Dave Augusta Millenger Willcockson. She was a homemaker and of the Southern Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Huffman; a daughter, Sharon Stacey; her parents; two brothers and two grandsons.

Survivors include a son, Raymond (Janie) Huffman; three daughters, Bonnie (Wayne) Speaks, Glenda Stanfill and Gail (Larry) McConnaughhay; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; twenty-six great-great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Willcockson; and two sisters, Lavetta Kobus and Mimah Whitney.

Visitation and chapel services will be Friday, January 28th, with visitation from 9:30 until 10:30 am with the services beginning at 10:30 am in the Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Eric Newberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Urban L. Dohogne, 88 of Paragould passed away Wednesday January 26, 2011 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. Born November 6, 1922, Urban was a purchasing agent for Wonder State Manufacturing, Lear Seigler and Peerless Industries. He was a member of St, Mary’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Louise Diebold Dohogne; brothers and sisters, Viola, Cletus, Linus, Emmett, Tiber and Silas Dohogne, Ada Roussell and Eva Geary.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jeanne Dohogne of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Bob Hessler and Elizabeth and Al Sweet of St. Louis, MO; Grandchildren , Jenny (Kevin)Auerr, Allan Hessler, Lauren and Kelly Sweet. Great grandchildren, Abby and Hannah Auerr; brother, Tony Dohogne of Cape Girardeau, MO; sisters-in-law, Ida, Ginny and Mary Belle Dohogne and the Ricardo Puello family. Urban was a World War II veteran having served in the Army-Air Corp as a B-24 pilot. After completing his pilot training he was assigned to the 13th Air Force in the South Pacific where he flew 35 missions. On his 28th mission, Urban was shot down by Japanese Flack and after 50 years was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries that he received.
Rosary services will be held Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Visitation will follow from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 29th, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Mike Sinkler and Deacon Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Wayne George Franzen


Wayne George Franzen, 89, formerly of Stuttgart, passed away at his home in Paragould Tuesday, January 25, 2011. He was born July 20, 1921, in Gillett, where he spent the first 12 years of his life. In 1933, he and his parents, Gilbert and Hilda Franzen, and only brother, Ronald Franzen (all deceased), moved to Stuttgart.

After high school, Wayne attended Hendrix College in Conway. In 1942, he joined the Army Air Force and was a World War II veteran. While stationed in Savannah, Ga., he met and married Lucile Yeomans Franzen, his wife of 65 years.

In 1946, he joined his dad and brother in a John Deere Equipment Dealership in Stuttgart, until they sold out in 1970. From that time until he retired in 2001, he was an Equitable Life Insurance agent.

He served the Stuttgart community for about 70 years through his work in the Jaycees, Lion’s Club and other organizations. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved being outdoors, with a special interest in water fowl and Ducks Unlimited.

He is survived by his wife, Lucile, now of Paragould; two sons and their families, Tom and Carolyn Franzen and son, Kyle, of Paragould and Jerry and Yolanda Franzen and sons, Christopher and Matthew, all of Houston, Texas.

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 29th, 10:30 a.m. at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart with Rev. Fred Arnold of Pine Bluff officiating. Family and friends are invited to join the Franzens at the Grand Prairie Arts Center following the service for lunch and fellowship.

Bonnie Campbell



Bonnie (Faulk) Campbell was born June 4, 1916 in Greene County, Arkansas and passed away at Greene Acres Nursing Home, Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the age of 94. She retired from South Western Bell Telephone Company after working 45 years in Paragould and Jonesboro. She was a member of Fisher Street Methodist Church in Jonesboro.

Preceding her in death were her husband, W. D. Campbell; her parents and three brothers.

She is survived by two children, Denise Modelevsky and William D. Campbell both of Little Rock; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a sister, Louise (Meryl) Woods of Paragould.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 29th, 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. A graveside service at Linwood Cemetery will follow at 12:00 p.m.

Virginia R. Dohogne
 


Virginia R. Dohogne, 95, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, who celebrate a long life well-lived and a legacy of love, grace and dignity. Born May 19, 1915 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Mrs. Dohogne lived much of her life in Paragould before moving to St. Bernard’s Village in Jonesboro 11 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Mrs. Dohogne was a member of the Arkansas Methodist Hospital Auxiliary while living in Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Linus Emil Dohogne, her brother, Robert C. Ranney, and by her son-in-law, Dr. James Gramling.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Gramling of Jonesboro; one daughter-in-law and son, Sallie and Ranney Dohogne of St. Louis; five grandchildren, Beth Sanders, Sara VanScoy, James F. Gramling, Jr., Carrie Croy and Greg Dohogne; and seven great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Sanders, Will VanScoy, Sara Ann Sanders, Joseph VanScoy, Sam Vancoy and twins Madeline and Annabel Gramling.

She was wise through age and experience, yet blessed with a youthful spirit that resisted the indignities of advancing years. An expert bridge player with a colorful, coordinated fashion sense well into her nineties, her sharp mind, sense of humor and compassionate concern for others made her a blessing to all. She led a full and active earthly life filled with loving friends and family who miss her profoundly, yet are comforted in the confidence of eternal life.

A funeral mass will be held Sunday, January 30th, 4:00 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Father Jack Vu officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Monday, January 31st, 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Paragould with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.
A rosary service will be held Saturday evening at 6:00 in St. Bernard’s Village Chapel. Visitation will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.

June DeLois Formon Gregory

 

June DeLois Formon Gregory, 70, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011, at Senior Village Nursing Home of Opelousas, LA.
She was a native of Leachville, Arkansas but she grew up in Aurora, Illinois. She lived most of her life in Jonesboro. She has been living in Opelousas for the past 2 years. She was a sensational homemaker and always made sure her home, her husband, and daughter were well taken care of at all times. She was all about cooking and baking her signature dishes. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, William A. Gregory of Opelousas; one daughter, Sherl Picchioni and partner, Judith Estorge of Opelousas; two sisters: Edith Hall of Aurora, Illinois and Donna Monehan of Jonesboro; and one grandson, Christopher Picchioni of Opelousas
She was preceded in death by her parents: James Donald and Audrey Edith Cope Formon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 1st, 10:00 a.m. at the Gregg Funeral Chapel in Jonesboro with Rev. Brian Monehan and Rev. Betty Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Pruett’s Chapel Cemetery in Paragould.

Visitation will be Monday, January 31st, 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro and Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.

Christine Hamilton
 


Christine Hamilton, 83 of Rector passed away January 28, 2011 at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital. She was born May 3, 1927 to the late Sim and Rena (Butler) Baber in Sevier County, AR.

In addition to her parents Christine was preceded in death by her husband: George Hamilton Sr, two grandsons: Philip Hamilton and Kevin Earnheart and a brother: Edward Baber.

Surviving Christine is two sons and a daughter-in-law: George Hamilton Jr. of Rector and Sim Edward and Jenny Hamilton of Piggott, a daughter: Barbara Jean Hamilton of Springfield, Mo, grandchildren: Gary Runyon, Jenifer Hamilton, Melissa and Lambert Williams,David Childers, Tammy and Shannon Higdon, great-grandchildren:
Kimberly Mathis, Savanah Runyon, Zachary Childers, Wesley Childers,Wyatt Childers, Landon Williams, Macey Williams, Nathan Gookin and Shianne Higdon and a sister: Alise Slaton of Lockburge, AR.

Billy Gene Gurien

 

Billy Gene Gurien, 68, of Paragould passed away January 29, 2011 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born December 20, 1942 in Keiser, Arkansas to Frank and Florence Gurien.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Helen Johnston.

He is survived by a son, Matthew (Holly) Gurien of Paragould; one daughter Lee (Joe) Roberts of Palestine, Arkansas.; four grandchildren, Kyler and Alyssa Gurien, Angela King and John Tyler Poe; three sisters, Betty Kilbreth, Linda Phillips and Donna McCoy; his fiancée, Carolyn Smith.

There will be a memorial service Tuesday, February 1st, 2:00 p.m. at the Phillips Funeral Home with Dennis Strope officiating.

Stella Marie Decker
 


Mrs. Stella Marie Decker, age 81 of Manila, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Manila Nursing Center. Born at Beech Grove, Arkansas she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mamie Harvel Williams and had been a Manila resident for most of her life. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Manila and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved by all.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Mr. Ray E. Decker of Manila; one son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Robin Decker of Leachville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Lamb and husband Gary of Monette and Brenda Bandy and husband Rick of Lake City; five brothers, Elsworth Williams, Gaylon Williams, Joe Williams, Mickey Williams and Darrell Williams, all of Sikeston, Mo.; and one sister, Letty Bradshaw, also of Sikeston, Mo. She also leaves five grandchildren, Jeff Bandy, Jennifer Shirley and husband Earnest Jr., Chad Decker, Brandon Decker and wife Stephanie, and Jeremy Lamb; and seven great-grandchildren, Alex Shirley, Mallary Shirley, Aidan Shirley, Lauren Decker, Raegan Decker, Jaxton Decker and Nash Decker.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila. The family has asked that those wishing to leave a lasting memorial consider the Alzheimers Association.

Winford Harold Hackworth

 

Winford Harold “Wink” Hackworth, 71 of Paragould passed away Sunday January 30, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. Born November 25, 1939, Wink was a retired group leader at Emerson Electric and a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and May Stromes Hackworth; step-daughter, Renee Smith; sisters, Dorothy Souheaver, Cleo Brockaw, Sharon Burns; brothers, Elmo, Darrell and Doyle Hackworth.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hackworth of the home; step-son, Marty (Melissa) Wynn of Walcott; sisters, Barbara Smith of Poplar Bluff, MO, Gertie Cox of Paragould, Louise Mandrelli of Las Vegas, NV and Elry Johnston of Paragould; brothers, Amos Hackworth of Paragould and Paul Hackworth of Downy, CA; grandchildren, Kristen (Jason) Summers, Brittany (J.R.) Lawrence, Kelsea (Brent) Hodge all of Paragould, Katie (Jon) Harter of Walnut Ridge, AR and Zachery Wynn of Walcott, AR; great grandchildren, Isaac, Zeke and Chyna Summers and Josslin Hodge.

James Allen Clayton, Sr

 

James "Jim" Clayton, Sr., 69, of Paragould, AR., passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born March 2, 1941, in Paragould, Mr. Clayton retired from Emerson Electric and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Clayton of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, James, Jr. and Tammie Clayton, Frank and Kelly Clayton, all of Paragould, and Greg and Erin Clayton of Jonesboro. He is also survived by one sister, Pat Farley of Paragould; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Cathrine Clayton; three brothers; and two sisters.

A rosary service will be held Tuesday, February 1st, 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with visitation following until 9:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 2nd, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with his nephew, Father Les Farley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Jerry Ferrell, Bryan Farley, Shawn Farley, Richard Walker, John Everett, Kenneth Farley, and Larry Farley will serve as pallbearers.

Phillip Lee Reddick



Phillip Lee Reddick 58, passed from this life and entered the Kingdom of Heaven January 30, 2011. He was born August 3, 1952 in Farmington, MI., to Marion and Beulah Reddick. Phil was a special person to those who knew him. He was a loving Christian and lived by the Golden Rule. Phil lived most of his life in Paragould and graduated from Paragould High School where he was a member of the track team. He enjoyed his friends and teachers, loved music and playing his guitar. He had a passion for growing flowers. Phil was a former employee of Emerson Electric.

Phillip is survived by three brothers, Frank Reddick and his wife Diann, Carlos Reddick and his wife Mary and Mike Reddick all of Paragould; two sisters, Donna Reddick Whitley of Paragould and Sharon Reddick Edrington and her husband Larry of Beech Grove; many nieces and nephews that each had a special place in his heart and great nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He always looked forward to visits and calls from these children because he knew they all loved and respected him.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant brother, Jerry; one sister, Fretsie Reddick Cline; a niece, Gayla Bolin and a nephew, Shilo Reddick.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 3rd, 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. following the visitation with Michael Cox officiating.

Martin Franklin Cunningham, 89 of Mountain Home, formerly of Paragould, passed away Monday January 31, 2011 at the Gassville Nursing Home in Gassville, AR. Frank was born May 26, 1921, in Greene County, Arkansas, the son of the late Wilfred Avery and Vera Davidson Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verniece Cunningham; grandson, Craig Campbell; brother, Willford Cunningham. Survivors include son, Dane Cunningham of Paragould; daughters, Lynell Davis of Mountain Home, AR, Diane Cooper of Sommerville, TN, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Della Jean Bradley


Della Jean Bradley, 61, of Paragould passed away January 31, 2011 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. She was born May 2, 1949 in Manistique, MI., to Lawrence and Faye Brown. She liked doing crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Everett Bradley; one daughter Ginnie Rudi and her husband Eric of Paragould; two grandchildren, Lexi and Austen Rudi; three sisters, Helen (Ed) Hamill, Lois (Dale) Powell and Patsy Brown all of Michigan.
