Tammy Lynn Ramsey


(Paragould)--Tammy Lynn Ramsey, 32, died July 2, 2006. She was born Nov. 13, 1973, to Billy C. and Omie Ward Basinger.

She is survived by daughters, Kimberly and Kayla; brother, Michael Basinger of Bay; sister, Sharon Elsberry of Jonesboro; stepmother, Doris Brown; stepbrothers, Michael and Johnny; stepsisters, Marie and Becky; nephews, Dillon Atchley of Jonesboro and Josh Basinger of Van Buren; and nieces, Ashley Elsberry of Jonesboro and Savannah Basinger of Bay.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. today in Carter Cemetery with Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob in charge.

Jesse J. “Bo” Bowman
Mr. Jesse J. “Bo” Bowman 86, of St. Peters, Mo., died July 3, 2006, at the Veterans Hospital in Jefferson Barracks. Dearest husband of Frances M. Rikard Bowman, son of the late Jesse B. and Mandy Bowman, dear brother of late David Bowman, five stepbrothers and one step-sister. Bo is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Bowman was a life member of VFW Post 2866. He served in the US Army where he earned three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He played professional baseball for the Kansas City Blues and was called up by the New York Yankees. Mr. Bowman worked for the Wabash & Norfolk Southern Railroad Lines for 34 years until his retirement. After retirement he worked at St. Charles Country Club, where he also enjoyed playing golf.
Graveside services will be on Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at Linwood Cemetery, under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.

Charles Raymond “Chuck” Pickney



Chuck Pickney, 74, of Paragould, died July 3, 2006, at his home in Paragould.

Surviving Chuck is his wife and friend of 55 years, Carolyn (Boone) Pickney.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and Everett Pickney of Paragould. Chuck was a retired agent with Farm Bureau and most of his adult life was spent in insurance and real estate. The latter spent with the “Bratton Team” of Bratton Real Estate.

Chuck and Carolyn were blessed with four wonderful children; sons Casey Pickney and wife Irene of Blumberg, Texas, Mike Pickney of Clinton, Iowa, and daughters Lanie and Don Raasch of Clinton and Dawn and Dennis Layer of Jonesboro. He is also survived by his sister and friend Mary Jo Robinson and his uncle George Pickney, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His life will be celebrated Thursday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Reverend Paul DuBar and the Reverend Zach Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 6:00-8:00 PM at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Keith Raasch, Jerry McCormick, Clay Boone, Brian Boone, Bob Bratton, and Kenny Kline. Honorary Pallbearers are “The Friday Night Dinner Club”- Alidean and Telpher Campbell, C.B. and Margaret Smith, Peggy and the late Nels Robertson, and Joyce and Bob Harig.

Derrick Matthew Rowe



Derrick Matthew Rowe, 17, of Paragould came into this life on September 10, 1988.

He was called to his eternal home on July 3, 2006.

His last days were spent in Lebonheur Children's Medical Center at Memphis.

Derrick graduated from Paragould High School on May 15, 2006.

He was an active member of the Future Farmers of America and the Happy Trails Riding Club. He was an avid hunter, a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club, an employee of Arkansas Storm Shelter and Septic and of Church of Christ faith.

Derrick was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Oval and Mable Haynes, and Everett and Gracie Rowe.

He is also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ted Banks, and his paternal great-grandparents, Edward and Prudie Banks.

He is survived by his mother, Marsha Hill; his father and step-mother, Kevin and Missy Banks, all of Paragould; his sister, Jessica Eakins; his maternal grandparents, Ruth "Nana" Rowe of Jonesboro and Carmon and Sue Rowe of Florence, Ala.; his paternal grandmother, Louise Banks, and his paternal step-great grandmother, Thelma Banks, both of Paragould. Derrick is also survived by his "special parents," Beverly and Dennis Hammon, his special "Sis," Darrian Hammon and his "special grandpa," Roy Barrow; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Kevin Banks, Dennis Hammon, Richard Carroll, Randall Carroll, Aaron Pugsley III and Aaron Pugsley IV.

Honorary pallbearers will be his agriculture teachers from Paragould High school, Mr. James Potter and Mr. Johnny Clark, Jeremy Ward, and the members of the Paragould High School chapter of the FFA.

Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Heath Funeral Home at Paragould with L.R. Smith officiating and burial following in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Arkansas 135 North.

Heath Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elbert L. Ray



Elbert L. Ray, 80, died July 3, 2006, at Jonesboro.

Born at Paragould, he lived in Monette most of his life. He was a Methodist and a retired construction machine operator.

Survivors include one sister, Ruby Ball of North Little Rock, and two half-brothers, William Fox of Virginia and Eddie Fox of Marmaduke.

Private arrangements are entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Frank Patrick Bell


Frank Patrick Bell died, Tuesday, July 4, 2006, in Paragould. He was born February 20, 1942, the son of the late William Adam and Mae Bell.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael John Bell.

He retired from Monroe Auto Equipment in Paragould after 28 years of service.

He served in the Army from 1960-1963. He is survived by his wife, Charlene (Charley) Bell; a son, Paul Daniel Bell, both of the home; a daughter, April Anderson, of Paragould; sisters and brother-in-law, Sheila and Authur Stabenow of Wilsonville, Ore., and Judy Burton of Stephens, Ark.; brother, Daniel R. Bell, of Stephens, and many nieces and nephews.

His life will be celebrated 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 6, at the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Reverend Bennie Isom officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heath Funeral Home.

Waukeen Bateman


Waukeen Bateman, 86, of Paragould died July 4, 2006, in his home.

He was born June 25, 1920, at Rector, the son of the late Harrison and Zoe Hardin Bateman.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bateman; stepsons, Phillip and Nickie Davis; granddaughter, Kimberly Fletcher; and sisters, Hope Matthews and Glory Faith Golden.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Dale Copher of North Port, Fla., and Kay and Buddy Fletcher of Paragould; brother, Maurice Bateman of Paragould; grandchildren, Johnna Disanto, Phyllis Ford, Christy Himschoot, Sabrenia Liddell, Kelly Shaddy, Phillip Davis and Justin Fletcher; and seven great-grandchildren.

His life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Terry Songer officiating. Burial will follow at Piggott Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Kenneth Reeks, Earl Gene Beeler, J.H. Burton, Paul Exum, Tracy Morgan and Bill Potter.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Heath Funeral Home.

Eva F. Daughhetee

 

Mrs. Eva F. Daughhetee, 95, of Peach Orchard died July 5, 2006, in St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center at Jonesboro.

She was the owner and operator of Daughhetee's Cafe in Peach Orchard for 34 years. She was a member of the Peach Orchard Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include two sons, Grady Daughhetee and Dannie Daughhetee; one daughter, Alma Dean Hamlin of Peach Orchard; a niece, Joanna Goins Justice of Jonesboro; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today in Ermert Funeral Home at Corning.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in the Greene County Memorial Garden at Paragould.

Larry Miles Harvey, Sr.



Larry Miles Harvey, Sr., 64, of Little Rock, Arkansas died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 in Kent, Washington. Mr. Harvey was born on March 11, 1942 in Paragould, Arkansas. He was retired from the United States Air Force and a Probation Officer for the City of Little Rock.
Survivors include: his son: Miles Harvey of Paragould, one daughter: Jerri Lynn Coleman of Springfield, Missouri, one brother: Charles R. Harvey of Seattle, Washington and five grandchildren.
Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by: his parents: Jerry and Gretchen Harvey.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, at the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Misti Annette Newman


Misti Annette Newman, 21, of Paragould, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, in Springdale, Ark. She was born March 14, 1985, in Paragould to Tony Ray Newman and the late Susan Annette Rogers Newman. Misti was a manager of Burger King in Fort Smith and was of the Assembly of God faith.

She was also preceded in death by her nephew, Jeremiah Allen Newman.

She is survived by her children, Hailey Annette Dunigan, Elijah Michael Maxwell Dunigan, Alexander Lee Dunigan; father, Tony Ray Newman; brothers, Billy Chad and Brett Allen Newman; grandparents, Jeanette and Billy Joe Newman, all of Paragould; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at Heath Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at a graveside service at Warren's Chapel Cemetery, 10 a.m. Monday, July 10, with her uncle, Rev. Tommy Newman officiating. The procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Pallbearers are Chris Newman, Tommy Wayne Newman, C.J. Dunigan, Robert Newman, Larry Newman and Derick Cox.

Leonard L. Retherford


Leonard L. Retherford, 71, died at his home in Paragould, on Thursday, July 6, 2006.

He was born November 12, 1934, in Greene County, and was a retired dragline operator for the Arkansas Highway Department. Mr. Retherford was the leader of a local band, “The Rhythm Rangers” and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Merry Retherford of the home; two sons, George Retherford and Randal Retherford, both of Paragould; and three daughters, Sandra Morgan and Lou Simpson, both of Paragould, and Betty Medlock of Black Rock. He is also survived by two sisters, Genevive Hollaway and Gladys Edmonston, both of Paragould; eleven grandchildren; and by five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sadie Retherford; one son, Rickey Retherford; two brothers, James Retherford and Jack Retherford; and by one granddaughter, Dakota Simpson.

 
Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00-9:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 9th, in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Dennis Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery.


Donnie Gibson, Shane McNeely, Cody Anderson, Rick Walls, Don Byrd, and Dillon Morgan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Leonard’s grandchildren.

Clarence E. Mitchell



Mr. Clarence E. “Gene” Mitchell, 64, of Paragould, died Thursday, July 6, 2006.

Survivors include three sons, Patrick Clarence Mitchell and Jeffrey Mitchell of Arizona, and Byron Dudley of Marmaduke; three daughters, Jolene Alys Rank of Georgia, Valene Mitchell and Jessica Mitchell of Arizona; two brothers, Marvin Mitchell of Marmaduke, and Richard Mitchell of Arizona; one sister, Carolyn Karr of Oregan; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and his father, James Clarence Mitchell of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy L. King.

The body will be cremated, with arrangements by Phillips Funeral Home.

J.B. Anderson



J.B. Anderson, 85, of Paragould died Friday, July 7, 2006, at the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center.

An electronic civil field engineer, he was a World War II veteran.

He is survived by his children, Jeanette Ellis, Glenda Harvey, Gary Anderson and Donald Anderson; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at Heath Colonial Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Revs. James R. Brown and Edgar Humphrey officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

James Odell Livesay

James Odell Livesay, 35, of Paragould, died Sunday, July 9, 2006, in Paragould. He was born Sept. 16, 1970, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Edith Eilleen Fancher and Arkie Livesay.

He is survived by his brother, Corey Reeves of Swansea, Ill.

Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Paul Dubar officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday at Heath Funeral Home.
Edith Eilleen Fancher



Edith Eilleen Fancher, 60, of Paragould died Sunday, July 9, 2006, at the Med in Memphis, Tenn. Survivors include one son, Cory Reeves of Swansea, Ill.; sisters, Imogene Harrison of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Della Matthews of Fenton, Mo.; one brother, Gale Going of St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren. She was born Sunday, January 27, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo. the daughter of the late Olon B. and Lucille (Brown) Going. Her husband, Edward Fancher and one son, Jim Livesay also precede her in death.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Paul Dubar officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday at Heath Funeral Home.

Aileen Wooldridge Powell



Aileen Wooldridge Powell, 78, died Monday July 10, 2006, in the Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born March 11, 1928, at Blytheville, the daughter of the late Chester V. and Grace Fox Wooldridge.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Verdell Coy Powell; her daughter, Tammy Powell; and her son, Dr. Terry Powell.

She was a homemaker and a resident of Greene County for 41 years.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Powell of San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Harley Wooldridge, Winston Wooldridge and Ben Wooldridge, all of Paragould, Cecil Wooldridge of Osceola and Paul Wooldridge of West Memphis; sister, Chestine Tribett of Paragould; several nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Her life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Heath Colonial Chapel with Tim Wooldridge officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Dean, Rick, Keith, Allen, Chris, Dwight and Jerrod Wooldridge and Steven and Richard Tribett will be pallbearers.

William A. "Bill" Thiel Jr.



William A. "Bill" Thiel Jr., 81, of Paragould died Monday, July 10, 2006, in Paragould.

He was born Nov. 12, 1924, at Paragould, the son of the late Arthur and Elsie Henson Thiel. He served his country in the Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was the owner of a woodworking shop.

Survivors include his wife, Ina King Thiel of the home; one daughter, Karen Bowers of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one son, Karl Thiel of Fayetteville; and a granddaughter, Rachel Bowers.

Funeral services will be Friday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Revs. Clyde Cook and Jared Pickney officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Heath Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials made be made to the First Baptist Church of Paragould.

Merinda Hansley Halley




Merinda Hansley Halley, 75, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, formerly of Imboden, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at her residence. Born July 8, 1931, Mrs. Halley was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God.
Survivors include one son, Matt Halley of Winslow, Arkansas; five daughters, Opal Kight of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Joanie Quinn of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brenda Frus of Rogers, Arkansas, Debra Butler of Lexington, South Carolina, and Emma Hefley of Riverton, Kansas. She is also survived by two brothers, Horton Lee Hansley and Aaron Hansley, both of Jacksonville, North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; and by eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Halley; and by her parents, David Horton and Sallie Jenkins Hansley.

Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at Warren’s Chapel Cemetery. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m., Saturday. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00-10:30 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Shirley Henson



Shirley Henson, 67, of Paragould, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Born July 31, 1938, in Paragould, Mrs. Henson retired from Emerson Electric and was of the Baptist faith.


Survivors include her husband, Edgar Henson of the home; four sons, Jerry Edgar Henson, David Lee Henson, and Keith Allen Henson, all of Paragould, and Billy Wayne Henson of Lake City; four daughters, Shirley Marie Brown, Melba Jean Farley and Wilma Joyce Henson, all of Paragould, and Debra Ann Bricker of Clarkton, Missouri. She is also survived by two half-brothers, Mackie Joe Smith of Paragould and Merl Chester Smith of Illinois; eighteen grandchildren; and by seven great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Sally Donahue; one daughter, Lesa Henson; one brother, Bob Smith; and by four sisters, Helen Colburt, Sally, Fayrene Murphy, and Sue Cole.

 
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 15th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Steven Bricker officiating.

Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Clovis Wayne Reddick



Clovis Wayne Reddick, 56, of Paragould, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born October 17, 1949, in Marmaduke, he worked in personnel management. Mr. Reddick was a deacon at Finch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Reddick of the home; his father, Clovis Wilburn Reddick of Marmaduke; two sons, Christopher Reddick and wife, Stephanie of Jonesboro, and Carey Reddick and his fiancée, Rebecca Pollok of Chicago. Illinois. He is also survived by three brothers, Bill Reddick of Marmaduke, Donnie Reddick of Paragould, and John Reddick of Malden, Missouri; two sisters, Sharon Hale of Marmaduke, and Annette McMillon of Malden, Missouri; and by two grandchildren, Clay and Taylor Reddick of Jonesboro.


He was preceded in death by his mother, Vernetta Bivens Reddick; and by his grandparents, Toby and Alice Reddick, and Lonnie and Mary Bivens.


Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15th, 2:00 P. M., at the Finch Baptist Church with Kim Bridges and Terry Gage officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery, Rector.
Dean Kirby, Sam Henry, Bobby Fletcher, Gene Hargraves, Marty Klemmer and Myron Davis will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class.

Ruby Marie Brooks




Ruby Marie Brooks, age 74, of Van Buren, the widow of Mr. Lyman "L.A." Brooks, died Thursday, July 13, 2006 at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith.

Born in December 5, 1931, Leachville, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Delilah Marie Hicks Fortson. She had been a Leachville resident before making her home in Van Buren three and one-half years ago.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Fortson; a brother, Robert Fortson; and two sisters, Sue Hodge and Barbara Blocker.

Survivors include three daughters, Tina McCoy and her husband Melvin of Leachville, Mary Lewis and her husband Allan of Van Buren and Terrie Broyles and her husband Ed of Barling; five brothers, Billy Joe Fortson of McDonough, Ga., Earl Fortson of Barnsville, Ga., Charles Fortson of Hackett, Ronnie Fortson of Manila and Randall Fortson of Hornersville, Mo.; and one sister, Shirley Hamilton of Hackett. She also leaves four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral chapel in Leachville with Mr. David Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Gainesville Cemetery near Paragould.

The family will receive visitors Sunday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Brent Cox, Chad McCoy, Joe Black, Dean Fortson, Melvin McCoy, Allan Lewis and Ed Broyles.

Henry Dewayne Utley


DeWayne Utley, 70, of Jonesboro died Friday, July 14, 2006, in University of Arkansas of Medical Sciences Hospital at Little Rock.

Born April, 30, 1936 in Rector, he had spent most of his life in Northeast Arkansas. He was a retired insurance adjuster and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Jonesboro Masonic Lodge No. 129, where he served as past Master of the Lodge, and the N.T.H.E.C.C.

Survivors include his companion, Carol Moye of the home; three sons, Lt. Col. Michael Utley of Wynne, Scott Moye of Little Rock and Kevin Moye of Jonesboro; three daughters, Stephanie Watkins of Van Buren, Stacie Clyburn of Little Rock and Katrina Cooper of Jonesboro; one brother, Don Utley of Benton; and eight grandchildren, Jessica Utley, Madison Watkins, Riley Watkins, Mackenzie Clyburn, Gatlin Cooper, Malory Cooper, Haleigh Moye and Caroline Moye.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Florene Utley; and one brother, Ronnie Utley.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Ernest Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Pallbearers include Tommy Thorne, Dan White, Richard Gambill, Gary Tidwell, Kevin Moye, David Thorne and Gary Holland.

Wanas "Slim" Flanery, 74, died Friday, July 14, 2006 near Peach Orchard.

He is survived by four sons, Dennis Flanery of Paragould, Danny Flanery of Reyno, Wayne Flanery and Kelly Flanery, both of Paragould; two daughters, Glenda Dunham of Paragould and Willa Dean Brumble of Pocahontas; three sisters, Lela Rothe of O'Kean, Marvie Dunlap of Jonesboro and Wanda Bristol of Pocahontas; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Bill Gray officiating.

Burial will follow in Jones Ridge Cemetery.

Beulah Burchett, 83, of Marmaduke died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

She was born June 10, 1923, in Turkey Creek, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nora Smith Burchett.

She is survived by two sons, Ron and Don Manley, both of California; three daughters, Edith Davis and Gail Morris, both of Marmaduke, and Nancy Sisco of Paragould; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Eunice Anges Nolte, 91, of Paragould died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Paragould Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 8, 1914, in Boydsville, she was a homemaker and member of Paragould First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Jane Holifield of Rector; four nieces, Shirley Morton of Collinsville, Ill., Phyllis Misee of Conway, Jean Miles of Little Rock and Glenda Long of Beebe; seven nephews, Jerry Hamilton of Oxford, Miss., Kenneth Hamilton, Jack Hamilton and Jim Hamilton, all of Paragould, Larry Holifield of Little Rock, Danny Holifield of Rector and Cecil Holifield of Blytheville.

Aletta Robinson, 57, of Cordova, Tenn., formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, July 16, 2006, in Baptist Hospital East at Memphis.

Born Aug. 10, 1948, at Paragould, she was formerly the school nurse at Oak Grove Elementary.

Mrs. Robinson was a member of Center Hill First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Robinson of Cordova, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Tonya Robinson of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Shannon West of Cordova, Tenn.; one sister, Thurma Lee Qualls of Paragould; and four grandchildren, Tyler and Caitlyn Robinson of Paragould, and Cassidy and Chloe West of Cordova.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Della Martin.

Weldon Elaine Tillman



Weldon Elaine Tillman, 92, of Paragould died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born January 12, 1914, in Light, she was the former owner of the Ranch House Restaurant, Paragould, and of Tillman’s Restaurant, St. Louis. Mrs. Tillman was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

 
Survivors include one son, David Tillman of Paragould; one daughter, Alice Williams of Little Rock; one brother, Hulen Faulkner of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Deborah Bowes, Rebeka Lappin and Susan Croce; and six great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Mary Alice Faulkner; her husband, John Tillman; one son, Don Eubanks and by several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.

F.R. "Junior" Myers


F. R. “Junior” Myers, 68, of Paragould, died Monday, July 17, 2006 at M. D. Anderson Hospital, Houston, Texas. Born January 1, 1938 in Marmaduke, he was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment. Mr. Myers was a Baptist and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Luretha Myers of the home; one son, Fred Myers of Ft. Drum, New York; three daughters, Dena Myer of Paragould, Stacey Davis of Bismarck, Arkansas and Amber Myers of Marion. He is also survived by two brothers, Ray Myers of Sacramento, California, and John Myers of Paragould; three sisters, Opal Lamb and Elizabeth Folkes, both of Sacramento; and Roma Sessums of Cardwell; and by seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Ethel Myers; one son, Orville Myers; one brother, Bill Myers; and by one sister, Ruth Myers.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 21st, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Larry Strope officiating. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 P. M. until 9:00 P. M. at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Robert Tucker Sr.


Robert Eugene Tucker Sr., 49, of Paragould, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 in St. Bernard's Medical Center. He was born at Peoria, Ill., and had lived most of his life in Peoria before moving to Paragould six months ago.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Helen Tucker, and one brother, Lewis Tucker.

Geraldine Myracle Whitlow, 83, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in Paragould Nursing Center.

She was born April 4, 1923, in Dunklin County, Mo. She was a homemaker and a retired waitress at Campbell's Cafe. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Whitlow; parents, Albert and Beulah White Pierce; and a sister, Wilma Rose Young.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Ann McDonald, and Danny and JoAnne Myracle of Paragould; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda Huffine Franks and Rex Franks of Paragould; sister, Joy Badgely of Flint, Mich.; grandchildren, Aubrey Remagen and Shelia Knuckles, Debbie Horner, Lisa Breckenridge, Jeff Myracle, Jennifer Manley and Steven Huffine; great-grandchildren, Tessa Gramling, Jordan Remagen, Danielle Remagen, Zachary Breckenridge, Nicole Manley, Mathis Horner, Joshua Myracle, Jenna Myracle and Corey Huffine.

Zorria Rosellia Jacks, 81, of Paragould died Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in NEA Medical Center at Jonesboro. She is preceded in death by her husband, Temetha J. Jacks; parents, John and Maudie Roberts Mason; brothers, Annual, Jimmy and Colman Mason; and a sister, Lueina Bunting.

Survivors include brothers and sister-in-law, Clinton and Essie Mason of Knobel, and Earl Mason of Paragould; and several nieces and nephews.

Dwight Pranger



Dwight Pranger, 78, of St. Peters, Mo., formerly of Paragould, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in St. Joseph Hospital-West at Lake St. Louis.

He is survived by his son, Dwight Pranger Jr. of St. Peters; and a grandchild.

His loving wife, Tomazene, preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Linwood Cemetery with the Rev. Junior Vester officiating.

Lillie Mae Carroll Bufford



Lillie Mae Carroll Bufford, Hot Springs, AR., passed through death to life everlasting on Wednesday, July 19, 2006.

She was born May 10, 1921, in the family home on what is now Carroll Road, the daughter of the late Lillian and James Randall Carroll.

She was also preceded by her husband, Dolph Bufford; grandson, Randy Harrison; siblings, Henry Carroll, Jewell Carroll Anderson and Hazel Carroll Earl.

Mrs. Bufford was an active citizen of her home town, volunteering at the Community Methodist Hospital, and an active participant at the Senior Center, enjoying many trips with other seniors. She was a stalwart member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, serving on the St. Mary's Parish Council and offering support of the grade school she had attended as a child. She continued to be active in the "Young at Heart" seniors group at church until 2003.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Russ Harrison; granddaughter, Christen Harrison Grace and her husband Jason; one sister, Beulah Groves of St. Louis; two nieces, Randa Groves of St. Louis and Karen Earl Starrett of Paragould; and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Heath Funeral Home with a rosary at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Monday. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to the St. Mary's School Development Fund, 310 North 2nd St., Paragould 72450.

Bobby J. Stewart



Bobby J. Stewart, 73, of Lemay, Mo., died  Thursday, July 20, 2006, in Lemay.


He was born July 15, 1933, in Greene County, the son of the late W.F. Stewart and Floye Light Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was the former owner of three Kwikway Restaurant’s and four Stewart bars, Lemay Bowl and was a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Realtors.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Stewart; and two sisters, Ovela Sheffield and Louise Nichols.


He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Jost on Dec. 25, 1951. They had two children. He later married Alice K. Waggner.
He is survived by his wife, Alice K. Stewart; two children, Steve Stewart and wife, Cammie, of Jefferson City, Mo., and Jeanie Stewart of Chesterfield, Mo.; two stepsons, Terry Hawn and wife, Patty, and Randall Hawn and wife, Linda Hill; two grandchildren, Jason and Robyn Stewart; three stepgrandchildren, Kerie Stewart, Adrienne Hawn and Melissa Hawn; one brother, Glen Stewart of Rector; two sisters, Sue Watson of Rector and Betty Jean Douglas of Columbia, Ill.; Pat Carpenter Craft, who was raised as a sister; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.


Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at Kutis South County Chapel, located at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis. Burial followed at Park Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.

Gracie Boone Davis, 84 of Paragould died Friday, July 21, 2006 at her residence. Mrs. Davis was born on February 8, 1922 in Walcott, Arkansas, she was a retired waitress.


Survivors include one son: Mike Boone of Paragould, one daughter: Pat Spillman of Paragould, two grandchildren: Colton Boone, Darrin Spillman both of Paragould and two great grandchildren: Priscilla Spillman and Chloe Spillman both of Paragould.


Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by: her parents: Park and Dora Newsom, one son: Roger Boone, four brothers: Cecil Newsom, Bennie Newsom, Athel Newsom, Weldon Newsom and one sister: Vonda Miller.

William Fredrick Shoe, 74, of Paragould, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born August 30, 1931, in Delaplaine, he retired as a supervisor from Monroe Auto Equipment. Mr. Shoe was a member of the Newton Street Church of Christ.


Survivors include his wife, Ida Shoe of the home; three sons, Roger Shoe and wife, Judy, of Atlanta, Georgia, Dennis Shoe and Winston Shoe, both of Paragould; and one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Rickey Cole of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by one brother, Marva Shoe of Delaplaine; two sisters, Opal Coleman of Indiana, and Virginia Wynn of Rockford, Illinois; four grandchildren; and by three great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Estie Shoe; one brother, and six sisters.

Buell Edwards




Buell Edwards, age 82, of Paragould, died Wednesday evening, July 26, 2006, at Paragould Nursing Center. He was born February 6, 1924, in Maynard and was retired from the roofing business.


He was preceded in death by his father, John Riley Edwards; his mother, Mary Amo Hyde; a half-sister, Neva Sissom; and by a half-brother, Rufus Edwards.


Survivors include his wife, Juanita Edwards; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harlan and Tywana Edwards and Harold and Rebecca Edwards, all of Paragould. He is also survived by one half-brother, David Edwards of Ravenden; three grandsons, Keith Edwards of Little Rock, Shane Edwards of Panama City, Florida, and Jonathan Edwards of Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Jennifer Edwards of Fayetteville; and by one great granddaughter, Tila Edwards of Panama City, Florida.

Alma Flordia Thacker



Alma Flordia Thacker, age 73, of Paragould, formerly of Smithville, died Tuesday, July 26, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Hospital at Paragould.

She was born on Nov. 28, 1932, at Belle City, Mo., the daughter of Jack and Grace Tanner Thacker. Flordia was a homemaker and a member of the Lone Oak Baptist Church.

Survivors include six sisters, Joyce Malone of Rector, Shirley Drury and Loveda Drury, both of Marmaduke, Linda Swenson of Debary, Fla., Dee Carter of Lake Wells, Fla., and Dolores Brooks of Smithville; and one brother, Harold Thacker of Boydsville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel at Walnut Ridge with Jackie Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in Townsend Cemetery near Smithville under direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home at Walnut Ridge.

Mae Fulkerson Garner


Mrs. W. Mae Fulkerson Garner, 90, daughter of William Andrew Fulkerson and Lola Gailey Fulkerson, originally of Wynn, and long-term resident of Paragould, died in the home of her son, Douglas G. Garner in Greenville, SC., on July 26, 2006.

Memorial services will be held in Fayetteville, Ga., with family and friends, with a graveside service and interment at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas, where she will be buried along side her husband of 67 years, Dr. Amos Dillon Garner, who died in May 2000, and her son, Michael Garner. Dr. Garner was a general surgeon in private practice in Dallas for over 50 years and practiced surgery at Baylor University Hospital, as well as other Dallas-area hospitals. The newly married Garners moved back to Paragould in the late 40s and began his surgery practice there. They lived in Dallas until 1999 when they moved to live near their youngest son, Douglas in Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her two brothers, Garland and Bill Fulkerson, both of Paragould. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Pat Fulkerson, wife of Bill and their children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Garner was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, and mother to her three sons, Michael, who preceded her in death in 1977, and to her two living sons, Philip Franklin Garner, and his wife, Vicki, of Mountain Home, and Douglas Gilbert Garner, and his wife, Jane. Mrs. Garner also has an adopted daughter, Janis Jelnick, of Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Garner is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all grandchildren of the Mountain Home Garners. Besides her involvement in medical charities in Paragould and Dallas, she was a member and volunteer of First Methodist Church of Dallas during her life there.

Mae's love of beauty, art, nature, family and animals were some of her greatest qualities, and her great sense of humanity always made her the “life of the party.”

Betty Jane Lewis


Betty Jane McGaughey Lewis, 65, of Paragould died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Born January 8, 1941 in Craighead County, she lived in Illinois from 1967-1989. She was a homemaker and a member of Brookland Methodist Church.


She is survived by her husband, Harold Dean Lewis of the home; a son, Brett Hoyer of Paragould; four daughters, Laurie Hoyer of Paragould, Teresa Brenner of MI, Lisa Hogan and Regina Lewis, both of TN; a brother, Charles McGaughey of Lake City; and five grandchildren, Jeremy Duke, Christina Duke, Louran Brenner, Morgan Brenner, and Mitch Brenner.


She was preceded in death by a husband, Eldon Hoyer; her parents, Marvin and Jewell Rhama McGaughey; and four brothers and sisters.


Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Brother Everett Isom and James Wainscott officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Kelly McGaughey, Kevin McGaughey, Heath McGaughey, Kyle McGaughey, Gary Fitzgerald, Rick Hale, and Mike Johnson.
Jeremy Duke will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be from 6:00- 8:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.

Mildred Anna Decker




Mildred Anna Decker, 95, of Paragould, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at her residence. Born June 3, 1911, in Greene County, she retired after seventeen years as a clerk at Hyde Pharmacy. Mrs. Decker was a member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ.


She is survived by one niece, Carolyn Foster of Sonoita, Arizona; and by two nephews, James Ward of Paragould, and Basil Ward of Albuquerque, New Mexico

.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe Decker; her parents, Byrd and Zana Wadley; two sisters, Dorothy Wadley and Betty Ward; and by one brother, Horace Wadley.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 31st, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with Herbert Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Center Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home.


Bailey Foster, James Ward, Jim Ward, and Basil Ward will serve as pallbearers.

Francis Pauline Morris



Francis Pauline Morris was born on July 13, 1945 and departed this life on July 28, 2006 at home in Rector, AR at 61 year of age.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Pauline Morris , a brother, A. L. Morris.


She is survived by: 2 sisters and husband, Iva Lee and R. V. Wesley of Rector, AR And Rose and Dale Guthrie of Crossett, AR . Half sister: Rozella Bolinger of Florissant, MO. Half Brother: Virgil Morris of Westville, MO. Niece and husband, Tamra and Chris Edrington. Nephew and wife, Bryan and Leisa Wesley, Kym Guthrie, Shane and Lane Guthrie. Gr. nephews, Matt Wesley, Logan Wesley and Drew Edrington. Gr. Niece, Kaitlyn Edrington, and a host of friends.


Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday July 30, 2006 at the First General Baptist Church of Rector, Arkansas. Visitation will be Saturday Evening from 6:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector, Arkansas. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Rector, Arkansas.

James Ross Weaver, Sr.



James Ross Weaver, Sr., 57, of Paragould, died Friday. Born October 17, 1948, in Paragould, Mr. Weaver was a disabled Vietnam veteran, and of the Baptist faith.


Survivors include two sons, James Ross Weaver, Jr. of Lonoke, Arkansas, and Jeff Cline of Arbyrd; two daughters, Christy Materna of Lonoke, and Catherine Denise Oglevie of Sheridan. He is also survived by eight brothers, Dewey Weaver of Arbyrd, Mack Weaver of Hardy, Tommy Weaver, Emmitt Weaver, Johnny Weaver, Jackie Weaver, Jake Weaver, and Edward Oden, all of Paragould; three sisters, Elva Cross, Martha Moss, and Susan McDaniel, all of Paragould; and by seven grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Elva Louise Weaver.


Visitation will be 2:00- 6:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30th, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. No funeral service is scheduled.

Joseph Michael Jones Jr.



Joseph Michael Jones Jr., 30, of Paragould died Friday, July 28, 2006 in his home at Paragould.

He was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1975, at Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Thomas Griggs.

He is survived by his parents, Mike and Rhonda Jones of Paragould; paternal grandparents, Denzil and Doris Jones of Paragould and Dollie and Howard Jensen of Audubon, Iowa; maternal grandparents, Robert and Lonnie Joiner of Rector and Frankie Arant of Paragould; and sisters, Wendy McDowel of Little Rock and Chelsea Jones of Paragould.

Joe's life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Roy Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight in Heath Funeral Home.

Clifton Cortez Healy



Clifton Cortez Healy, 83, of Paragould, died at his home Saturday afternoon, July 29, 2006. He was a member of the Bethel Station Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 14 years; served on the Executive Board for 7 years; as music director for 8 years; and as a deacon.


Mr. Healy retired from Massey Ferguson Tractor after 33 years of employment. After retirement, he served as Chairman of the Commission for the South Greene County Fire Department and played a major role in establishing the Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked diligently as the chairman of the commission to get the Water District established and served on that board from 1996 to 2003.

 
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ava Drusilla Healy; two sons, Danny Healy of Stigler, Oklahoma, Phillip Healy of Seoul, Korea; and a daughter, Leigh Kalder of West Memphis. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.


Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 3rd, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Kinnett and Dennis Vowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Joy Lee Brown



Joy Lee Brown, 75, of Paragould, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Born October 24, 1930, in Caraway, she was a retired nurses’ assistant at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, and of the Baptist faith.


Survivors include two sons, Willie Don Lane of El Paso, Arkansas, Gerald Brown and wife, Rhonda, of Jonesboro; and one daughter, Linda McClung of Paragould. She is also survived by one brother, Jack Meurer of Bono, one sister, Ruby Mears of Collierville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Zelma James; her husband, Garvin Brown; and by several brothers and sisters.

 
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00-3:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould. A Memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel.

Joan Mallet Jenkins



Joan Jenkins, age 63, of Paragould died Sunday, July 30, 2006.

Born Oct. 17, 1942, she was a retired high school teacher and active in the Center Hill Church of Christ.

She taught 17 years at Rector, 16 years at Crowley's Ridge Academy and two years at West Memphis Christian School in West Memphis.

Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her parents, James Otis Mallet, on Aug. 8, 1976, and Oma Wooten Mallet on May 1, 1981.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Sam Jenkins; one son, Kerry Jenkins and his wife Dena of Fort Smith; one daughter, Kelli Brinkley and her husband Micah of Paragould; four grandchildren, Abbey and Adam Jenkins of Fort Smith, and Landon and Lathan Brinkley of Paragould; two sisters-in-law, Carol Dickinson and husband Joe of Paragould, and Patty White of Greenway.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. today in the Center Hill Church of Christ at Paragould.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Center Hill Church of Christ with Jon Binkley, Art Smith, Dale Horn, Jearl Howard and Gerald Fears officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mack Ramsey, Calvin Jones, Al Williams, Wayne Freer, Russell Wheeler and Arvil Hill.

Honorary pallbearers will be the elders of the Center Hill Church of Christ, Carlton Bryson, Jearl Howard, Charles Long, Vernon Lacey and Alfred Rowe.

Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Rector.

Memorials may be sent to Crowley's Ridge Academy, Paragould Children's Homes and Families First Foundation.
