Fayetta Virginia Meredith



Fayetta Virginia Meredith, age 80, of Delaplaine passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at her residence.

Mrs. Meredith was born November 10, 1928 she was a retired farmer and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years. She was a member of the Delaplaine Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mary Moore Collins.

Survivors include her husband, P.T. Meredith of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Joe and Shirley Meredith of Delaplaine; grandson and wife, Scott and Angie Meredith of Delaplaine; granddaughter, Vickie Smith of Delaplaine; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Johnny and Quinten Smith, Alysa Burbank, Abigail, Anna and Bricen Meredith; sisters, Elwanda Clayton of Delaplaine, Clora Russom of Beech Grove, Dorothy Burgess of Harrison, Glenna Swink of Paragould and Louise DeVore of Viola; and brothers, James and Larry Don Collins of Paragould and Charles Collins of Haroldsburg, KY.

Visitation will be this Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5th at Heath Colonial Chapel with Adam Bruton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Eli Murray, Leonard Nees, Tony Eubanks, Richard Alls, Junior Alls and William Sisco.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Murray and Michael Swink.

Memorials may be made to Lawrence County Children’s Home in Walnut Ridge.

Phillip D. Hout Sr.



Phillip D. Hout Sr., age 70, of Newport passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Little Rock.

He was born November 29, 1938, at Paragould, the son of Judson Nathan Jr., and Dorothy (Williams) Hout.

Mr. Hout enjoyed any activity which posed a challenge. He enjoyed duck hunting, fly fishing, scuba diving, sailing, piloting his plane, cycling, playing guitar, writing music and telling stories.

His greatest love, however, was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ann (Hudson) Hout of Newport; one son, Phillip David Hout Jr. and wife Desha Biles Hout of Dallas; two daughters, Kimberly Hout Ellis and husband Charles of Little Rock, Pamela Hout Wallace and husband David of Cabot; one brother, Dr. Judson N. Hout, III and wife Carolyn of Camden; seven grandchildren, Stacy Allen and husband David, Judson Shumate, Lindsay Hoggatt, Jennifer Wallace, Candace Wallace, Phillip David Hout III and William Jacob Hout; and one great-grandchild, Gavin Shumate.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.Internment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3rd from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Norma Lee Hillen



Norma Lee Hillen, age 69, of Paragould passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center. She was born in Delaplaine on June 11, 1939, to Clarence Raymond and Mary Elizabeth George Carson.

She leaves behind her three sons, Kenneth Hillen Jr. of Springfield, MO., Johnny Hillen of Searcy and Steve Hillen of Paragould; two daughters, Vickie Tucker of Monette and Regina Cox of Paragould; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jimmie Carson of Jonesboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hillen Sr.; her parents; two brothers, J.C. and Roger Dale Carson; and a sister, Imogene Taylor.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6th at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with Scott Trayler officiating. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Jimmie Carson Jr., Bobby Lee Tucker, Bill Carson, Anthony Tucker, Alex Carson and Joseph Burgess. Honorary pallbearers will include Brian Godfrey, Andrew Hillen, Derek Godfrey, Brandon Johnson and Tony Johnson.

Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Monnie Kelley




Monnie Kelley, age 98, of Hot Springs, formerly of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hot Springs.
Born May 20, 1911, in Independence County, she was former co-owner of Paragould Shoe Store and of Kelley’s Supermarket. Mrs. Kelley was a member of First Baptist Church of Paragould and the West Helena Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Joneta Kelley of Moon Lake, Mississippi, and Jerry and Peggy Kelley of Hot Springs Village. She is also survived by six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kelley; a son, Lavon Kelley; a daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Kelley; and a grandson, Alan Kelley.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4th, at Linwood Cemetery with Dr. Winfred Bridges officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:50 p.m.

Visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials to the local Gideon organization would be appreciated.

Tony Wayne Jones



Tony Wayne Jones was born September 2, 1943, to the late Euvene and Zeffie (Marsh) Jones. He departed this life on June 3, 2009, at the age of sixty-five years, nine months and one day.
Mr. Jones had served in the Navy and was a member of Smith's Chapel General Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Betty Jones of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, James and June Jones of Pollard, John Jones of Paragould and Rick Jones of Trumann; daughters and son-in-law, Eva and David Denney of Paragould and Amanda and Aderion Burnett of Pollard; two brothers, Jerry Jones and Ronnie Jones, both of Florida; two sisters, Loretta Kibler of Paragould and Shirley Ragsdell of Searcy; 32 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held June 5th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ernie Rinks officiating. Interment was at Harvey's Chapel Cemetery.

Audria Lucille Adams




Audria Lucille Adams, 85, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born February 6, 1924, in Wappapello, MO., Mrs. Adams was a seamstress, and a member of the First Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie Wayne Adams of the home; one daughter, Sandra Welch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two brothers, Herman Luke and Herbert Luke, both of Malden, Missouri; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Nora Luke; two daughters, Marieva Sue Adams and Linda Holifield; three brothers, Raymond, Roscoe, and Arthur Luke; and by one sister, Pauline Arledge.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Sunday, June 7th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Roy Mack Slatton



Roy Mack Slatton, age 82, of Light passed away Friday, June 5, 2009.

He was born February 27, 1927, at Walcott to Jim and Lizzie Slatton. He graduated from Walcott High School in 1946. He was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanda Slatton; two sons, Terry Slatton and Donnie Joe and his wife Pam Slatton; one daughter, June and her husband Rick Noblin; seven grandchildren, Crystal and her husband Kamron Taylor, April Slatton, Joseph and his wife Theresa Noblin, Jimmy Slatton, Sarah and her husband Jonathan Cooper, Amy Noblin and Joshua Slatton; seven great-grandchildren, Gracen and Millie Kate Cooper, Reed and Daniel Noblin, Matthew, Logan and Lucas Taylor; two sisters, Laura Ann Walker of Light and Gracie and her husband Bill Brown of Oregon; three brothers, Ray and his wife Dorothy Slatton and Alton Slatton, all of Light, and Leoties and his wife Ava Jean Slatton of Walcott.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Walter and J.D. Slatton.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday in Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8th in the Center Hill Chapel of the funeral home with Paul McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery.

His grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Melissa Tompkins



Melissa Nanette Tompkins, age 41, of Monette, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009 at St. Bernards Medical Center.

She was born November 18, 1967, at Paragould. Melissa was a store manager and a member of the Monette First Baptist Church. She always had a smile on her face and loved being around people. Her greatest joys were her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her mother, Bernice Tompkins of Monette; two brothers, Ritchie Tompkins and wife Anita of Biloxi, MS., and Jason Tompkins of Monette; a sister and her husband, Patty and Rocky Qualls of Monette; two nieces, Letisha Qualls and Torie Tompkins; three nephews, Garison Tompkins and Lucas Qualls and Adam Tompkins; a great-nephew, Sean Qualls; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, D.A. “Junior” Tompkins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 6th in Macey Cemetery with the Rev. Rusty Bird officiating under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

There will be no visitation.

James Robert Stovall




James Robert (Bob) Stovall, age 85, of Paragould, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
He was born June 16, 1923, in Marmaduke. After high school graduation, Bob moved to St Louis where he worked in wire rope manufacturing and insurance sales. In 1959, he and his family moved to Pomona, Missouri, where he worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Willow Springs for 20 years. Upon retirement in 1979, he returned to Paragould where he has resided since. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Joyce Stovall of Paragould; one son, Mike Stovall of Sugar Land, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eulela (Roach) Stovall; one daughter, Dolores Brand; two brothers, Alfred and Wilson Stovall; and by two sisters, Lou Ella Smith and Martha Thomas. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9th, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, June 10th, at Hartsoe Cemetery with Kim Bridges officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Immanuel Baptist Church would be appreciated.

Albert Wayne Freeman



Albert Wayne Freeman, age 70, of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Skilcare Nursing Home.

Born December 5, 1938, Albert served in the U.S. Marine Corps and had lived in Jonesboro for one year, moving here from Paragould. He was an engineer for the EJ&E Railroad.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Alda E. Freeman; son, Michael Clark; parents, Louis and Sarah Freeman; and two brothers, John M. Freeman and Richard Freeman.

Mr. Freeman is survived by sons, Jimmy Cook and wife Janet of Harrison and Patrick Freeman and wife Geri-Anne of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.; daughters, Teresa Smith and husband Maurice of Joliet, IL., and Patricia Burk of Kansas City, MO.; brothers, Ted Freeman and Tim Freeman, both of FL., and Charles Freeman and Bill Freeman, both of Paragould; sisters, Sarah Hensen of N. D. and Elizabeth Van Landegham of Arnold, MO.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday, June 8th in Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

All other services will be private.

Edna Erlene Moore



Edna Erlene Songer Moore, age 83, of Bono passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Lake City.

She was born September 23, 1925, in Greene County, the daughter of Willie and Minnie Songer. She was united in marriage to Elvis Moore on November 8, 1943, at Sedgwick.

Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and pastor of Jesus Name Church of Hoxie.

Survivors include four children and spouses, David (Brenda) Moore of Bono, Dian (Gaylon) Clark of Lake City, Paula (Tony) Roseberry of Booneville, MS., and Paul (Sheila) Moore of Walnut Ridge; nine grandchildren, Jordan, Amber, Emily, Talon, Elizabeth, Virginia, Molly, Tony Jr. and Deann; two great-grandchildren, Latasha and Avery; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Earl Songer of Paragould and Junior (Alice) Songer of Kahokea, IL.; and one sister and brother-in-law, Glenda (Tom) Miller of Salem. Many other relatives and friends mourn her passing.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Elvis Moore; her parents; and one sister, Nora E. Songer.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel at Walnut Ridge with Van Gilbert and Danny Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Lorado Baptist Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Ring, Andrew Ring, Rick Birch, Kevin Hancock, Denny Meeker and Junior Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Forsight and Joe Hancock.

Floyd Edward Spence



Floyd Edward Spence, age 86, of Memphis, formerly of Greene County, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at his home.

He was born January 3, 1923, the son of the late David and Amy Brummett Spence. Floyd was a member of Open Door Bible Church and served his country in the Army-Air Corps during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Spence of the home; sons, George Spence (Linda) of Scottsville, KY., and Larry Spence; and stepson, Freddie Griffin (Faye), all of Memphis; grandson, James Edward Spence (Stephanie) of Scottsville, step grandson, Phillip Griffin (Melanie) and step granddaughter, Mary Talley (Tim), all of Memphis and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel. The Rev. Gary Starbucks will be officiating. Interment will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pauline Virginia Lawrence



Pauline Virginia Lawrence was born May 31, 1926 at Cardwell, MO., to LaVelle and Terry White, the oldest of 15 children, passed away June 9, 2009 at Paragould

She had four children, Fredrick Neal (deceased), Edward Quentin of Arkansas, Jacqueline Sue of Florida and Robin Ann of Texas. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Henry Norton Lawrence.

Pauline loved life, loved to cook and decorate and had a smile that warmed the room. She laughed easy and loved hard. She was a kind woman, gentle and nurturing. The world is a smaller place with her passing.

A private memorial will be held by the family. Arrangements by Heath Funeral Home.

William Hesselbein



William Scotty Hesselbein, age 52, of Benton passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Saline Memorial Hospice of Bryant. Scotty was born June 27, 1956, in Jonesboro to Charles and Betty Hesselbein.
Before becoming ill in 2002, he worked as a Tool and Dye Maker for L. A. Darling Company, in Paragould and in 1978, began working for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department in Little Rock as a graphics reproduction technician from which he retired when he became ill.

Preceding Scotty in death was his mother, Betty.

Survivors include two sons, William Bradley and Trey Robert and their mother, Teresa Hesselbein of Benton. Other survivors are his father, Charles Hesselbein and wife, Joyce of Benton; his brother, Chuck Hesselbein of San Antonio, TX., and Chuck’s sons, David and Michael of Fayetteville.

Arrangements are by Roller-Ballard Funeral Home of Benton. Visitation will be Friday, June 12, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Todd-Paul Taulbee of Bryant First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould at 3:00 p.m., Saturday with the Rev. Michael Sutton of Griffin United Methodist of Paragould conducting a graveside service.

Memorials may be made to “Friends of Arkansas Health Center” of Benton where he was compassionately tended while he was a patient there or to Bryant First United Methodist Church.

Lola Lesley



Lola Lesley, age 73, of the Finch community in Greene County passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

Born at Harrisburg, Lola lived much of her life in the Trumann-Jonesboro area before moving to Finch 20 years ago. She worked as a nurse’s aide and care sitter for several years and operated a flea market in Finch.

Lola was a member of Landmark Worship Center in Trumann and enjoyed collecting dolls.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Joe Smith and James Lesley; four children, Donnie, Mary, Carolyn and infant son Lesley; four sisters, Lucille, Glenda, Luella and Betty; and a brother, Edward.

Survivors include four sons, George Smith of Jonesboro, James Lesley of Houston, Texas, David Lesley of San Diego and Ronnie Lesley of the home; two daughters, Margarett Jones of Paragould and Debra Gamboa of San Diego; two brothers, Johnny Barnes of Trumann and Jerry Barnes of Cave City; five sisters, Wanda Halsey, Francis Battles, Molly Rasdin, Kay Rogers, all of Trumann, and Sue Carter of Elkhart, Ind.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 15th in Landmark Worship Center at Trumann with the Rev. Bill Nunally officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery south of Harrisburg with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday in Landmark Worship Center.

Charles Otto Moore


Charles Otto Moore, age 64, of Paragould passed away June 12, 2009. He was born March 14, 1945 to Elbert and Mary Moore. He retired from Emerson Electric.


He is survived by his son Charles Moore of Cardwell, MO, and four grandchildren, Anthony Moore, Tiffany Gibson, Zachary Gibson, and Rebecca Anderson.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mary Moore; one brother, Alvin Moore; two children, David and Melissa Moore.

Paul Roger Allen, age 87 of Paragould passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Greene Acres Nursing Home.
Born August 11, 1921, he was a retired auto mechanic and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.
Paul was a U. S. Army Air Corp Veteran of WW-II serving on Iwo Jima in the South Pacific.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Allen; daughter, Linda Kay Allen; parents, Henry Elvis and Ella Hamlett Allen; brothers, Elmer and Herbert Allen; sisters, Florence Summers, Trula Hatcher and Blondale Anderson.

Survivors include, Godson and family, S. Kieth Morrow, Michelle and Briar Morrow of Paragould and sister, Ima Bonds of AL. Visitation will be Monday, June 15th from 9:00 a.m. until10:45 a.m. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. in Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Stone officiating. Vivian Marie Baker



Vivian Marie Baker, age 81, of Paragould passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

Born March 10, 1928, she leaves behind her brother, Vestor Baker of Spring Valley, CA., a sister, Virginia Loewen of Mobile, AL. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Maude Taylor Baker; her stepmother, Edith Baker; two brothers, Vernon and Victor Baker; three sisters, Violet Hollis, Verna Shaw and Vera Johnson; and a stepbrother, Ralph Baker.

Graveside services and burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16th in Nettleton Cemetery with Paul Horner officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 tonight in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will include her nephews, Larry Johnson, Gary Johnson, Jim Johnson, Joe Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Chris Pulliam.

Juanita W. Smith

 


Juanita W. Smith, age 89 of Memphis, formerly of Paragould, went home to be with her Lord on June 13, 2009. Juanita was born June 24, 1919, living her entire life in the Paragould area until an illness in 2007 required her to move closer to her only daughter in Memphis.
Juanita was an LPN at Arkansas Methodist Hospital for over 38 years. After her retirement she became active with the Senior Bees and enjoyed having lunch at the Senior Center everyday with many of her longtime friends. Later she became active with the Widows Support Group until her health required her to move into assisted living in 2007. Up until the last hour of her life Juanita continued to live a very active and full life.

 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Smith, parents John Oscar and Lilly Mae Jennings Farmer, 6 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Smith of Cordova, TN; one sister, Edwina Risinger of Flint, MI; two sisters-in-law, Ova Farmer of Monette, AR and Shirley Farmer of Paragould, many nieces and nephews and their children.

Juanita's strength, vitality and determination was an inspiration to everyone around her. She has left such a positive impact on so many lives and will truly be missed by many.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 17th from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial chapel with Rev. Dan Siminon officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Lola Faye Cox, age 65, of Paragould passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.

Lola was born May 21, 1944, to James and Madge Cox. Lola was a lifetime resident of Greene County and retired from Emerson Electric after 37 years of Service.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Madge Dial Cox; and a brother-in-law, Walen Smith.

Lola is survived by one sister, Wanda Cox Smith of Paragould; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Winfred and Clarice Cox of Russellville and Michael and Lisa Cox of Paragould; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 16th at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Gene Wood and Michael Cox officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m..

Pallbearers will be Lou Citro, Justin Cox, Jim Ford, Bill Herren, Drew Smith, Jeremie Smith, Kyle Smith and Kaelin Schaper.

Joshua Lee Carter




Staff Sgt. Joshua Lee Carter, age 24, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Canon City, Colorado, as the result of a traffic accident.
He was born July 19, 1984, in Paragould and was of the Baptist faith. Sgt. Carter was stationed at Fort Collins, CO., and had recently completed his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Survivors include his mother, Rebecca Wilburn; his father, John Gaines Carter and wife, Laniece; one brother, Jared Carter; and special uncle, Frank West, all of Paragould. He is also survived by his grandparents, Susie West McMillan of Paragould; B. L. and Elda Mae Carter of Beech Grove; great grandparents, Richard and Norma West of Wynne; nephew, Hayden Carter of Brookland; and by several close friends and military personnel who were like his family.

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Ross and Ola Pankey.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Saturday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 21st, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Royce Schanda officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery.

Dugie Robinson, age 72, of Delaplaine passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Born December 5, 1936, he worked as a farm hand and was a member of Peach Orchard Pentecostal Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Frank and Maudie Mae Lambert Robinson; three brothers, Woody, Woodrow and Junior Frank.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Robinson of the home; sons, Duke John Robinson of Arcadia, FL., and Joseph Earl Robinson of Joppa, MD.; daughters, Susan Jane Evans of Beeville, TX., Brenda Gail Krull of Anderson, S.C., Nellie Rose Liles of Beeville, TX., and Gloria Jean Cox of Bastrop, TX.; sisters, Edith Crane of Iuka, MS., Sylvia Voyles of Burnsville, MS., and Dottie Robinson of Iuka, MS.; brothers, Alfred Robinson of Arcadia, FL., and Tom Robinson of Wachula, FL.; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17th at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Bill Nunnally officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 pm Tuesday at the Heath Funeral Home.

Brenda Gail Willis, age 50, of Marmaduke, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at her home.

Born November 29, 1958, at St. Louis, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Davis Pillow, age 83, of Paragould, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born June 3, 1926, in Brighton, AR., Mr. Pillow retired from Martin Sprocket and Gear. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Pillow of the home; two sons, Aaron Pillow and wife, Roselee of Cabot, Jeff Pillow of Paragould; and a stepdaughter, Mary Jo Wince of Paragould. He is also survived by two sisters, Hilda Faulk of Hope, and Dora Alice Humphries of St. Louis; four grandsons; six granddaughters; fourteen great grandsons; ten great granddaughters; and by one great great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Felsie Pillow; his first wife, Charlcie Pillow; eight brothers, Woodrow, Paul, Amos, Theo, Dempsey, Walter, Charley Ray and Isaac Pillow; three sisters, Ruby Lamb, Loretta Rundles and Sunshine Shearer; and by one great grandson, Bradley Pillow.

James Albert Hill



James Albert “Jim” Hill, age 55, of Paragould, passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
He was born in Detroit, MI., July 1, 1953, the son of Clifton and Jeanette Hill. Jim was a factory supervisor at Garlock Rubber Technologies, and a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He served six years in the National Guard.

Surviving are his wife, Terry Fay Hill of the home; two daughters, Dusty Hill, Misty Carrick and her husband, Bobby; father-in-law, John B. Hollis; and mother-in-law, Betty Fay Hollis all of Paragould. He is also survived by one brother, Terry Hill of Imboden; three sisters and brothers-in law, Sondra and Hokie Holifield of Piggott; Brenda and Larry Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Marain and Marty Reisz of Owensboro, Kentucky; brother-in-law, John Hollis and wife, Sharon of Paragould; three grandchildren, Ethan Andrew Vandon, Dustin and Chloe Mitchell; six nieces; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Junior St. Cin.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 18th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.

Wanda Lee Johnson



Wanda Lee Johnson, 92, of Batesville, formerly of Paragould passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at the White River Medical Center. She was born January 13, 1917 in Marmaduke, AR. the daughter of the late Dr. James Jones and Ethel Clopton Hudgins. She was also preceded by her husband, Howard Clifton Johnson.
Wanda was a retired Medical Insurance Clerk and a member of Seventh & Mueller Church Of Christ.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dr. Deborah Johnson of Batesville; brother Dr. Owen James Hudgins of Jonesboro; and granddaughter, Kathryn Ann Johnson of Batesville.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 until11:00 am Thursday at Heath Funeral Home, after which a procession will leave for a graveside service at Linwood Cemetery at 11:15 am with Larry McFadden officiating

Troy Laverle Charles
 



Born July 3, 1942, Troy Laverle Charles, age 66, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at close friend and caregiver, Audrey Dacus’ residence in Paragould.
He was an Army veteran and served in Korea in 1965. He retired from the Arkansas Highway Department and was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Lafe. His interests included antique cars and raising cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Wesley and Eva Wright Charles; and by a brother, Earl Wesley Charles.

Survivors include three sisters, Gail Kappelman and her husband, O’Neal, and Wynell Wess, all of Paragould, Faye Robinson and husband, Jim, of Clarkston, Michigan; four nephews; five nieces; six great nephews; and nine great nieces.

Visitation will be 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 19th, at the Providence Baptist Church with Gary Morris officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Evelyn Marie Harrell

 

Evelyn Harrell, age 69, of McRae, passed away at the White County Medical Center in Searcy June 17, 2009.
A daughter of the late Fred and Katie James Head, Evelyn was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas April 27, 1940.
Evelyn was a member of the Victory Worship Center in Searcy, a homemaker and had worked as custodian of the White County court House for ten years. She had lived in the McRae area the past four years moving from Bald Knob.
Evelyn's hobbies were arts & crafts, sewing and gardening.

Evelyn is survived by four sons, Richard Easter, J.B. Easter both of McRae, Marc Easter (Debbie) of Cabot and Shawn Harrell (Ashley) of McRae, one daughter Kathi Goodman (Jimmy) of Judsonia, four brothers, Bill Fowler (Teddie) of Sheridan, Cecil Fowler (Annie) of KY., Bobby Head (Theresa) of Harrison and Johnny Head (Mary) of Cotton Plant, two sisters, Bonnie Poole (Danny) of Beebe and Betty Sherril (Joe) of Florence, AL., 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother Connie Fowler, sisters Irene Anderson and Connie Clart Hunt.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Bob Neal & Sons Chapel in Brinkley with Bro. Larry Simon officiating. Burial will follow in Cotton Plant Cemetery.

Earnest Leroy Brown, age 62, of Paragould passed away June 18, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1947 in Delaplaine, AR., to Earnest and Hazel Brown.

A Vietnam veteran he retired from the US Army in 1986 with almost twenty one years of service. He was Baptist Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Estaleen Ray.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Brown of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leanne and Bob Schrader of Brandenburg, KY, Shannon and Mike Wooldridge of Paragould; four grandchildren, Morgan and Zachary Schrader, Tyler and Talyn Wooldridge; two brothers, Melvin Brown of Corning and James Brown of Hallsville, TX.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Runa earlier this year.

Rev. Donald Clark Dailey, 71, of Mustang, OK, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, June 19, 2009. He was born October 30, 1937 to Roy and Opal Dailey in Paragould, AR.

Donald ministered the word of God, and he coached little league ball for over 30 years at the Southside Optimist Club. He also served as President of the Optimist Club.

He touched many lives during his years of services.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Dailey; 2 sons, Todd Dailey and Gregg Dailey; stepson, Lynn Dailey; grandson, Tyler Dailey; sister, Judy Laubach; mother, Opal Dailey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by brother, Roy Dailey, Sr.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Crossroads Church OKC, interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Services under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore, OK.

Otilla Elizabeth Clark, age 81 of Paragould, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Clark was born March 4, 1928 in Gideon, MO. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include; her husband, Connie Clark of the home, one daughter and her husband, Connie and Charles Covington, one brother, Pete Turner all of Paragould, three grandchildren, Angie and her husband Ronnie Smith, Christie Emery, Brandon Imler, five great grandchildren, Lexi Covington, Darien Smith, Madison Griffin, Brayden Imler and Blayne Imler.

Doris Clark



Doris Clark, age 93, of Corning passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

She helped on the farm and worked at Basler Electric. She enjoyed gardening, card playing, quilting and cooking. Clark was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school for 25 years.

Survivors include her son, Thad Clark of Corning, sister, Bonnie Harper of Granite City, IL., 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Emil and Agnes Ruth Cleveland Schimming, her husband, Drew Clark, on February 11, 1991, son, Gale Clark, in December 3, 2004 and a brother, T.H. Schimming, in August, 2008.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 8:00.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. in the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.D. Passmore and Steve Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Belva Pierce; two sisters, Lillian Sullivan, and Ann Lyles; one brother, Wayne Pierce; and one grandson, Christopher Dixon.

David James Prine



David James “Lil D.J.” Prine, 3-month-old son of Robin and Jessica Henley Prine of Jonesboro, departed this life June 24, 2009, in Jonesboro.

He was born March 1, 2009, at Paragould and “God’s littlest angel “D.J.” touched the lives of many through his beautiful smile and sparkling eyes. D.J. was always full of joy and laughter.”

Lil D.J. is preceded in death by Elvie Henley, Mary Lou Smith, James Cammon, Barry Cammon, Joshua Armstrong and Don Stafford.

He is survived by his parents, Robin and Jessica Prine of Jonesboro; siblings, Elijah Foster, Haevyn Prine of Jonesboro and Hali Prine of Grand Rapids, MI.; grandparents, David and Rhonda Prine, Carl Henley and Irene Henley, all of Jonesboro; and great-grandparents, Sarah Tesso of Sanborn, IA., Mary Mohring of Minneapolis, Ron Hannah of Fresno, CA., and Betty Russell of Jonesboro. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include, ex-wife, Betty Smoot of Paragould; daughters, Kim Parks of Sherwood, AR and Karla Franks of Jonesboro, AR; sister, Pauline Hill of Paragould; grandchildren, Nik, Lacye, Weston and Colten Parks, Brady and Kris Adams; great grandchild, Londynn Adams and cat, Piper.

Glenn Harold Midkiff, age 61 of Rector passed away June 25, 2009 at the NEA Hospital in Jonesboro.
He was born October 17, 1947 to the late Roy and Johnnie (Reynolds) Midkiff in Clay County.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, James and Billy Ray Midkiff and one sister, Sue Whitworth.

Harold is survived by his wife: Dianne (Davidson) Midkiff, one son: Jerry and Michelle Midkiff of Knob, three daughters: Lora Pollard of Piggott, Mandy and David Smith of Rector, Jenny and Allen Underwood of Rector, nine grandchildren: Jake and Bailey Pollard, D.J. and Vanessa Rose, Alec and Rileigh Smith, Brittney, Sadey and Gunner Underwood, two brothers: Lindol Midkiff of Kennett and Odean Midkiff of Mt. Jerry Wayne Beasley, age 57, of Paragould passed away June 25, 2009, at his residence. He was born October 31, 1951, in Paragould to Thomas and Zelma Beasley.

Earnest Ray Clifton, age 54, of Paragould, formerly of Leachville, passed away June 26, 2009 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Maedene Austin Clifton of the home; stepson, Richard Goss of Paragould; stepdaughter, Angela Goss of Paragould; brother, William Cash of Jonesboro; and sister, Donna McCollum of Jonesboro.

There will be a memorial service at a later date. Howard Funeral Service of Leachville is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Susan Olia Deboard



Mrs. Susan Olia “Oller” Prichard Deboard, age 87, of Trumann passed away June 26, 2009, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center at Jonesboro.

She was born March 17, 1922 at Paragould, was a former employee of the Singer Co., a homemaker, member of Freer Baptist Church since 1962 and a lifetime resident of Trumann.

Mrs. Deboard was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Deboard; one son, Jimmy Deboard; one daughter, Mary Pogue Laughlin; three sisters; two brothers; and was the daughter of the late Charlie Ben and Ella Mae Sloan Prichard Curry.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Whitlow of Mountain Home, Ellen Irene Goodwin of Wilmington, IL., and Judy Murray of Trumann; three sons, Grady Deboard of Trumann, James Deboard and David Deboard of Huntingtown, MD.; one sister, Lorene Deboard of Trumann; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30th in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann with the Revs. Mark Constant and Bobby Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Nettleton Cemetery at Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Grady Deboard, James Deboard, Michael Deboard, Wayne Deboard, Jeremy Deboard, Jimmy Stevens and Jim Furnish.

Visitation will be Monday evening 5:00 until 7:00 in Thompson Funeral Home.

Walter Edward Selvidge


 

Born July 10, 1968, Walter Edward Selvidge, age 40 of Jonesboro passed away June 27, 2009 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. He was a plumber with Dixie Contractors and a member of the Magnolia Road Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

Walter was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Ethel Selvidge. Survivors include his wife, Karrie Wilson Selvidge of the home; son, Walter Selvidge, Jr of Jonesboro; daughter, Mykala Selvidge of Jonesboro; mother and step-father, Dorthie and Lonnie Brown of Jonesboro; father, James Selvidge of Beebe, AR; brother and sister-in-law, Lonnie Ray Brown, Jr. and Chasity of Jonesboro; step-sisters, Connie Darlene Brown and Sherry Lynn Brown both of Gideon, MO.

 
Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 30th at 1:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Emil Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Larry Cadwell Sr.



Larry Cadwell Sr., age 57, of Delaplaine, Arkansas, formerly of Forrest City, departed this life, Saturday, June 27, 2009, at his home in Delaplaine. He was born, March 17, 1952, in Marianna, AR., the son of Emmett and Ruth Farris Kimble and Ralph and Mary Cadwell.

Larry was a true outdoors man who enjoyed mechanic work, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Paul Kimble and Charles Kimble.
Larry is survived by his two sons: Joseph Hawkins and wife Latasha of Delaplaine, AR. and Larry Cadwell Jr. of Forrest City, AR., two daughters: Laura Cadwell of Delaplaine, and Tonya Vance of Palestine, AR., two brothers: Joey Kimble of Seattle, WA. and Dale Kimble of Michigan, three sisters: Eloise Dias of Forrest City, Helen Rowlett of Forrest City, and Janice Kimble Reno, NV. and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted, Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne, Arkansas.

Mildred Louise Cook
 


Mildred Louise Cook, age 74, of Paragould, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Med in Memphis.
Mrs. Cook was born March 16, 1935, she was a retired LPN and a member of Newton Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include one son, Garry Hembrey of the home; one daughter, Kathy Suzanne Williams of Paragould; two stepsons, John Cook of Virginia, and Gerald Cook of St. Louis. She is also survived by one sister, Catherine Henson of Osceola; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 3rd, at Finch Cemetery with L. R. Smith officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00- 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.

Robert Pate, Jason Cook, Ronnie Wells, Jesse Doughty, Don Trout, and Jack Pearson will serve as pallbearers.

Weldon Clifton Stallcup


Weldon Clifton Stallcup, 68 of Paragould passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Weldon was born January 21, 1941, he was a farmer and a bus driver. He was of the Christian belief.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford Clifton "Dode" and Jewell Velma Yates Stallcup. Survivors include his wife, Pat Stallcup of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Rita Stallcup of Stanford; nephew and wife, Cliff and Leslie Stallcup of Paragould, several nieces and nephews and special children, Whitney and Drew Hill and Faith and Jade Warrner.

Visitation will be Thursday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial chapel with L. R. Smith and Bill Snow officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Jerry, Terry, Michael, Brian, Chad and Tyler Easton. Honorary pallbearers will be Weldon’s coffee drinking buddies.

Memorials may be given to the charity of the givers choice.

Bobby James Tillman



Bobby James Tillman, age 77, of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home.

He was born in Walcott, June 25, 1932, to Major “Red” and Amy Lamb Tillman. Mr. Tillman was a supervisor for 35 years at Jonesboro Ready Mix Co., a Greene County Tech High School graduate and member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Walcott. Mr. Tillman loved gardening.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Patsy Tillman of the home; a brother, Frank Tillman of MO.; two sisters, Dorothy Barton of Jonesboro and June Ring of St. Louis; a grandson, Trent Talley of Jonesboro; and close friends, Paula Ford, Candice Layne and Don and Brenda King.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Charlotte Talley and Myra Tillman.

Graveside services and burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 3rd in Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott with Randy Stimach officiating.

Active pallbearers will include Charles Layne, Don Latourette, Ronnie Ford and Don King.

Honorary pallbearers will include the employees of the former Jonesboro Ready Mix plant.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening 6:00 until 8:00 in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.

Carl L. England  

 

Carl L. England, age 82, of Harrisburg, IL., passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Marion, IL.

Carl was born on April 16, 1927, in Pocahontas, AR. to the late Carl L. England Sr., and Jessie (Bottoms) England. Carl married Martha E. Ward on April 27, 1947.

He was a member of Gaskins City Baptist Church, an Army WWII veteran. He was a former member of the Hayti Rotary Club; he coached Little League for over ten years; he was a lay minister for several local churches; he was the 1973 Citizen of the Year for the Harrisburg Lions Club, and former Man of the Year for Hayti Civic Clubs.

Carl is survived by his wife Martha, two sons, Garry England and wife Martha of Bartlesville, OK., and Fred England and wife Kathy of Vincennes, IN., eight brothers and sisters survive including his brother Nolan England of Marion, IL., six great grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Elizabeth, Noah, Benjamin and Kimberly, two great grandchildren, Haylie and Wyatt.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandchild Luke William England.

 Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., July 3, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. G. E. Coultas will officiate, burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., July 4th, at Memorial Gardens in Paragould, AR. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, July 2nd, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
