Muriel Jeanne Crowley 



Muriel Jeanne Crowley, 80, of Paragould, died Saturday, March 1, 2008.

A retired schoolteacher and member of First Baptist Church, she was born August 23, 1927 in Greene County, the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Ama Beatrice Crowley. 

She is survived by her niece, Pam Hawkins; great-niece, Debbie Beck; and great-nephew, Todd Hawkins. 

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

Ruella Jo Blackshear 



Ruella Blackshear, 61, of Marmaduke died March 1, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. 

She was born September 17, 1946, to the late Ewell and Lillian Reddick Williams in Greene County and was a lifetime resident of Marmaduke. 

Ruella was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Blackshear. 

She is survived by her son, Christopher Blackshear of Marmaduke and two brothers, Randall and Gary Williams of Paragould. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Kim Bridges and Conley Williams officiating. Interment will be at the Ramer’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening at 6 in the funeral home.

Danny Ray Woods 




Danny Ray Woods, 56, of Marmaduke, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. 

He was born June 25, 1951 in Caraway, Arkansas the son of the late Albert Fisher and Nadine Wilson Woods. He was also preceded in death by his infant sister.

He is retired from Monroe Auto Equipment and of Baptist belief. 

He is survived by his daughter, Danna Woods; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy and Shirley Woods; J.W. Woods, all of Paragould; Calvin and Barbara Woods; Gerald Woods of Junction City, Kansas; grandson, Jamal Savior, several nieces, nephews and friends. 
The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Wednesday, March 5th, at Heath Funeral Home. His life will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Thursday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow at New Friendship cemetery.

Walter "Doc" Swink 




Walter “Doc” Swink went to his heavenly reward on March 2, 2008. 

He was born in Paragould January 12, 1916 to the late Henry Swink and Ida Bell Dooley Swink. He was surrounded by his four loving children. 
After retiring from farming he devoted his time to gardening, his flowers and raising Beagles and rabbit hunting. He was a member of the East Side Baptist Church many years where he served as Deacon and was a friend to many. In earlier years he was a Sunday School Teacher to young people. 

He is survived by his four children, Nina Swink of Overland, Missouri, Gary of Humboldt, Tennessee, Myron of Stafford, Virginia, and Alicia Robinson of Paragould; six grandchildren; thirteen great and eight great great grandchildren; a sister, Rachel Staggs; and brother, Marce Swink of Paragould and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and Vendetta, his wife of 63 years, three brothers; six sisters and one grandson. 
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverends Lindell Staggs and Joe Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. 
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home.

Pauline Jean Dixon 




Pauline Jean Dixon, 67, of Paragould, died on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born December 11, 1940, in Bay, AR. 
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Andrew and Beatrice Bandy and brother, Eugene Bandy. 

Survivors include sons and daughters-in law, Donald and Ruth Dixon of Vinton, LA and James and Kim Dixon of Poplar Bluff, MO and daughter, Amanda Benton of Paragould. Seven grandchildren. Sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene and Bud Sickler of Brookland, AR and Mary and Gerald Perkins of Dequincy, LA. Many nieces and nephews and friends. 
Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 – 1:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Larry McFadden officiating

Tina Richey 



Tina Richey, 42, of Paragould died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould. 

Survivors include her husband, David of the home; children, Tasha Foster of Pocahontas, Shaun, Jacob and John Richey, all of Paragould; her mother, Carlene Slusher of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Michael Williams and Brandy Foster; sisters, Teresa Beebe and Bridgett Slusher; and brother, Keith Slusher. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Jene; and brother, Billy Joe. 

Memorial services will be Friday from noon until 4 p.m. in Shannon Baptist Church at Pocahontas under the direction of Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas.

Elenora Francis Stevens 



Elenora Francis Stevens, 89 of Paragould, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Mrs. Stevens was born on September 17, 1918, she was a homemaker and Southern Baptist Faith. 
Survivors include her son: Jim Stevens of Paragould, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. 
Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by: her parents: Earl and Margaret Harris, her husband: James G. Stevens and one daughter: Joyce Ann Smith. 
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Finch Cemetery with Larry Mack Strope officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Dennis “Dink” Perkins



Dink Perkins, 75, of Paragould, formerly of Forest, died March 3, 2008, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR.

Survivors include two sons; girlfriend, Joyce Sistrunk of Paragould, AR.; brother, Thomas Perkins of Forest; three sisters, Mary Drake of Paragould, AR., Mary Cox and Mildred Perkins, both of Forest and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 9-11 a.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning, Ark. with service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Hosea Cemetery in Knobel, AR.

Dorothy Mae Smith Walker 



Dorothy Mae Stanfill Smith Walker, 85, of Paragould, departed this life Monday, March 3, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. 
Mrs. Walker was born January 1, 1923, in Leachville, and retired from Southland Bottling Company. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church. 
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ephraim Smith; her second husband, Roy Walker; her parents, J. A. and Cynthia George Stanfill; four brothers, Fred, Floyd, Jerry and John Stanfill; and by one granddaughter, Deborah Faye Sibert. 
She is survived by her children, Shirley and Jay Molock of Tennessee, Bill and Sue Smith and Jim and Brenda Smith, all of Paragould; grandchildren, Jackie and Melvin Rogers, Diane Neal, Gene and Jeff Smith, Lesa Brengard, Sheila Carter, Kathy Falcon and Camey Douglas. She is also survived by one sister, Eunice Stanley; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. 
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Violet Garnetta Smith 


Violet Garnetta Smith, 85, of Marmaduke, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. 
Born February 20, 1923 in East Prairie. Missouri. Mrs Smith was retired from grocery store business and was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church . 
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Shala Marlene Smith,; a brother, Fred Lee Crum. 
Survivors include her husband, D. C. Smith of the home; a son, Keith Smith of Marmaduke; a brother, Larry Vincent of Mt. Home, Arkansas. 
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, at Mitchell Funeral Home chapel in Rector with Bro Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow At Woodland Heights Cemetery. 
Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Mitchell Funeral Home of Rector.

Charles Wendell Gist

 


Wendell Gist, 67, of Paragould, was born August 27, 1940, he passed away Monday, March 3, 2008, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center, Jonesboro. Mr. Gist was retired from Emerson Electric after 33 years of service. He drove a truck for 11 ½ years, most recently for Carter Express. He also sold real estate part-time for Century 21 in the 1990’s. He enjoyed reading and was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan. 
Wendell was a Navy veteran and very proud of it. 
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sharon Gist and a daughter, Shelley Lynnette Gist of Paragould; a sister, Mary Stevens and her husband, Richard of Stockton, California; and many nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter and Lela Gist and several sisters and brothers. 
Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould. 
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday March 8th, at Brown’s Chapel Cemetery, with Eddie Gene Wright officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m., Saturday. 
The family requests that everyone dress casually for the service. 
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Branch, Ron Faulk, Gary Nelson, Gary Doughten, Billy Doughten and Martin Crain. 
Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends and former co-workers of Emerson Electric and Carter Express.

Elsie Lee Shewmaker, 78, of Tacoma, WA., died March 4, 2008, at Highlands Care Center. 

Mrs. Shewmaker was born October 13, 1929. She was a member of the Church of Christ. 

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Croft Cemetery with Art Smith officiating.

Frieda Janette Felts 



Frieda Janette Felts, 75, of Paragould, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.
Born January 6, 1933, in Manila, she was a retired receptionist for the Family Practice Clinic. Mrs. Felts was a member of East Side Baptist Church. 
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Dana Felts of Paragould; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and Lou Leventhal of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, and Felton and Tony Magby of Benton, Arkansas. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Linda Shedd of Manila, and Dr. L. L. and Marcia Shedd of Paragould; and by seven grandchildren, Jennifer Scroggins, Cameron Magby, April and Kayci Felts, Joshua, Hannah and Sarah Leventhal. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira D. and Lorette Alston Shedd; her husband, James V. Felts; and by one sister, Martha Donner. 
Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 5th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. 
Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 6th, at East Side Baptist Church, Paragould, with Steven Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Elgareda Williams, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. She was born February 4, 1925, in Stanford, AR. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Williams; grandson, Brad Latham; parents, Henry and Goldie Morrow; sister and brother-in-law Reba and Dallas Gramling. Elgareda was a member of the Evening Star Church of Christ. 
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Johnny Mac Latham; grandchildren, Bryan and Jenny Latham; and Ellice and Michael Moffitt, two great grandchildren, Dylan Scott and Anna Marie Latham; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Jane Morrow of Searcy, Joe and Eloise Morrow of Newport, and Edward and Judy Morrow of Banner, Illinois .

Mary Vangilder 




Mary Vangilder, 73, of Marmaduke, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at her residence. She was born September 19, 1934, at Monette, Arkansas, and was an employee of Dollar General, Paragould. Mrs. Vangilder was a member of First Baptist Church, Marmaduke. 
Survivors include her husband, Jim Vangilder of Marmaduke; five sons, Dewayne Merriman of Flippin, Leonard Merriman and Kenny Merriman , both of Jonesboro, Doyne Vangilder of Marmaduke, and Carey Vangilder of Paragould; four daughters, Linda Qualls of Morris Chapel, Tennessee, Vicki Braden of Pollard, Susie Ford of Paragould, and Lanie Vangilder of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by two sisters, Eva Marie Sears of Clarksville, Audra Robinson of Arkadelphia; twenty grandchildren; and by fifteen great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Bertha Allison; three brothers, Walter, Bill and Bobby Allison; one sister, Cora Francis Owens; and by one grandson, Derick Smith. 
Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday, at First Baptist Church, Marmaduke. 
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m., at the Marmaduke First Baptist Church with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Aaron Dale Pugsley, 82, retired jeweler, of Yerington, NV., died March 5, 2008.

Richard Andrew Gilmore



Richard Andrew Gilmore was born November 18, 1961, to Barbara Gilmore and the late Fred Gilmore. He departed this life on March 5, 2008, at his residence in Memphis.

He had lived in Memphis for more than 20 years and was a T.V. repairman.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Gilmore of the home; a brother, William Dean Gilmore of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Denise Bozarth of Paragould and Tami Gilmore of Memphis; one niece, Lesley White; four nephews, Nathan Weber, Robbie Pickering, Joseph Bozarth and David Bozarth; a great-niece, Shelby White and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral serices will be today at 1 p.m. in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel of Rector with David Floyd officiating. Interment will be in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery near Marmaduke.

Gary Vanzant



Gary Vanzant, 71, of St. Peters, Mo. (formerly of Paragould) died March 5, 2008, at SSM St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, Missouri. He was born April 3, 1936, to James M. and Sarah L. (Austin) Vanzant in Manila, Arkansas.

Mr. Vanzant was a retired machinst for Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Morrow) Vanzant of St. Peters; three daughters, Kimberly G. Meyr of New Wells, Marla J. Fahr of O’Fallon and Jamie C. Cowden of St. Peters; one brother, Austin E. of Arbyrd; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth A. Lane; his parents; one brother, James B. and one grandson, Richard F. Fahr, III.

Memorial graveside services will be at 4 p.m., April in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould. His body was cremated and ashes will be spread over his daughter’s grave.

Norma Louise Sparks 



Norma Louise Sparks, 77, of Paragould, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. 
Born January 12, 1931, in Greene County, Mrs. Sparks was a homemaker, and a member of East Side Baptist Church. 
Survivors include her husband, Cloyce Sparks of the home; one son, Frankie Sparks of Paragould; and one daughter, Linda Armstrong of Bay. She is also survived by two brothers, Leslie Ward of Oak Grove, Gaylon Ward of Corning; four sisters, Dortha Vincent, Maggie Crockett, Virginia Howard, and Brenda Witcher, all of Paragould; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Betty Ward; one brother, Danny Ward; and by one great granddaughter, Sheane Lowery. 
Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 to 9:00, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. 
The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 9th, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Breck Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Winford Ken Williams



Winford Ken Williams, 88, passed away Friday March 7, 2008 at his residence in Paragould, Ark. He was born November 24, 1919 in Levington, Okla. to William and Eva Reatha Williams.

He is survived by his son Winford Ken Williams Jr. and three daughters Sandra Kay Wallace of Aurora Colo., Sherry Gay Williams Jones of Marietta Okla., and Susan Holly Williams Crabtree of Paragould, Ark., and by Grandchildren David Wallace, Tracy Pearson, Christie Wallace, Shelly Parker, Ryan Perry, Dustin Kinsel Perry, and ten Great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Zula Mae Williams, two Great-granddaughters, Madison Holly and Magan Alexandra Parker, along with six brothers and sisters.

He was from the Center Hill-Paragould area and is of the Methodist belief. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1946.

Visitation and service will be held in Dallas, Tex.

Gerald Wayne Hampton



Gerald Wayne Hampton, 68, passed away Friday March 7, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Arkansas. He was born November 3, 1939 to Enis and Verneel Hampton in Marmaduke, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife Norma Grooms Hampton and two sons, Kenneth Swink , Ronald Hampton, four daughters, Zina Norman, Gloria Smith, Pamela and Wanda, five grandchildren, Crystal Baldwin, Robert Swink, Eric Swink, Lloyd Norman, and Phillip Hampton and seven Great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bonnie Revell, and brother, Earl Hampton.

Graveside service will be held at Linwood Cemetery March 10, 2008 at 1 p.m. with Brother Bob Lee officiating.

Lila Maudell Johnson 




Lila Maudell Johnson, 92 of Paragould, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Elizabeth’s Place in Jonesboro. Maudell was born October 8, 1915, she was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Dixie, AR. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Artie and Emma Wood Martin and her husband Roy Johnson. Survivors include cousins: Flossie Cooper, Wilma Martin, Walter Higgins and Jerid Wooldridge all of Jonesboro. 

Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 P.M. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Joel McMasters officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Adrain O’Dell McFall 

Adrain O’Dell McFall, 94, of Jonesboro died March 10, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center. 

Born March 4, 1914, in Gainesville, he was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith. 

Survivors include one son, Elvis McFall Sr. of Jonesboro; one brother, Cecil McFall of St. Louis; and four sisters, Murlene Dial and Imogean Willey, both of Paragould, Reba Cunningham and Ella Hografe, both of St. Louis. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Sue Ann Salvage of Brimfield, Ill., Tressa Jurries of Linn Grove, Iowa, Allen McFall of Russia, Melenda Jones Holden, Jerry McFall and Ronny McFall, all of Jonesboro; and by 20 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille McFall; one son, Norman Ray McFall; and one grandson, Elvis McFall Jr. 

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould with Jeffrey Dial officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens. 

Pallbearers will be Ronny McFall, Jerry McFall, Michael Jones, T.J. Jones, Allison Salvage and Bob Salvage.

Mae L. Bopes 



Mae L. Bopes, 89, of Brookland died Monday, March 10, 2008 at Greene Acres Nursing Center at Paragould. 

She was born April 8, 1918 at Brookland to Alfred and Cora Ethel Akers Troutman. 

She is survived by three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, all of Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews of Missouri and Arkansas.

Cecil Copeland, 86, of Leachville died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at his home. 

Born at Light, he was the son of the late Charley and Sarah Henson Copeland and had been a lifelong Leachville area resident. 

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, retired Leachville and Arbyrd Compress employee and member of Leachville Church of God. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sons, Kenneth Copeland, Lewis Brinkley, Jimmy Woods and J.B. Fleeman; three brothers; and one sister. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kincaid Fleeman Copeland of the home; four sons, Johnny Copeland of Dundee, Fla., Gary Copeland of Auberndale, Fla., Jimmy Fleeman of Leachville and Tommy Fleeman of Selma, Calif.; six daughters, Helen Wiseman and special friend Larry Huckabee of Arbyrd, Mo., Gean Rountree of Manila, Norma Stacy of Leachville, Carolyn Robertson of Osceola, Mary Ruth Watson and Debbie Black, both of Texarkana, Texas; a sister, Mattie Thomas of Waycross, Ga.; and very special niece that he thought of as a daughter, Sarah Platz of Lake City. 

He also leaves 31 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Howard Funeral Chapel at Leachville with the Rev. B.R. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery.

Bobby Gene Travis



Bobby Gene Travis, 69, of rural Paragould died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at NEA Baptist Medical Center. 

Born November 1, 1938 at Bay, Bobby lived at Bay before moving to the Craighead-Greene County area in 1966. He worked several years for General Electric in Jonesboro and was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church where he drove the church van and taught Sunday school before becoming disabled. 

Bobby was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a graduate of Arkansas State University. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doretha Holloway Travis. 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hester Travis of the home; two brothers, Earl Travis of Paragould and Bill Travis of Jonesboro; and two sisters, Betty Houston of West Fork and Sue Bilyeu of Tyronza. 

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Larry Ring and Harold Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Glenda Hamilton



SFC (Retired) Glenda May Benson Estill Hamilton, 58, of 629 McLamb Drive, Fayetteville, N.C., died on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Lafe, AR., December 20, 1949, to the late Ervin and Jewell Benson.

She was married to Reade Alexander Hamilton and they recently celebrated their 30th Anniversary.

She graduated from Fayetteville State University in 1973 with an Associates Degree. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1981 with a Bachelors Degree. She graduated with her Masters in Business Administration in 2003 from Fayetteville State University.

She served 20 years in the U.S. Army working in Military Intelligence. She was a Case Worker for the Department of Social Services at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for nine years.

She is survived by her husband, Reade A. Hamilton of the home; son, Benjamin A. Hamilton of the home; three sisters, Anna Faye Rikard of Southhaven, Miss., Wanda Sue Rowland of Oakland City, Ind. and Lavena Lynn Witcher of Honolulu, Hawaii. She was predeceased by her parents, Ervin and Jewell Benson and sister, Melba Jean Johnson.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held on March 18, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Murchison Rd., Spring Lake, N.C. Rev. Godfrey L. Deaver will officiate.

Lindy Gene Gramling 



Lindy Gene Gramling, 78, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould. 

He was born near Stanford on September 15, 1929, to John B. and Myrtle Mangrum Gramling. He was a retired farmer and truck driver and of the Methodist faith. 

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Veraunda of the home; son, Steve (Amanda) Gramling of Paragould; grandchildren, Regina (JB) Smith of Tulare, Calif., Josh (Sandi) Petty of Springfield, Mo., Selena (Karl) Horton of Paragould, Sarah (Andy) Runyon of Cabot, Stephanie Gramling of Fayetteville and Alex Gramling of Paragould; and great-grandchildren, Alexis, Grace, Brandon and Samantha Smith, Garrett, Karabeth and Rebekka Horton, Madison and Mackenzi Petty and Ethan Gramling. 

He is survived also by his brother, Marion (Judy) Gramling of Paragould, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Gramling was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Jill Gramling Wells; his parents, John B. and Myrtle Mangrum Gramling; four brothers, George, Bob, Lewis and William Camp “Little Bill” Gramling; and four sisters, Johnnie Lou Gramling Norman, Lottie Gramling Hooten, Winnie Gramling Greenway and Margaret Gramling Tatum. 

Visitation will be at Heath Funeral Home on Saturday from 10-11:30 am. The procession will leave for burial in Union Grove Cemetery at 11:30. The Rev. Marion Gramling and his grandson, Nathan Gramling, will preside over the graveside service.

Willodean C. Park, 85, formerly of Grand Blanc, Mich., was ushered into her Heavenly Father’s presence Wednesday, March 12, 2008, while under the loving care and attention of the staff at Green Acres Nursing Home and St. Bernard’s Hospice in Paragould, Ark.

A devoted wife of 62 years to James (J.H.) Park of the home and beloved mother and mother-in-law to Doug and Anne Park of Lansing, Mich., Dan and Susette Park of Grand Blanc, Mich., Lynn and Beverly Park of Dahlonega, Ga. and Debbie and Bob Cleary of Newburgport, Mass., cherished grandmother to Joshua, Justin, Jim, Rebecca and Ellen Park, Rob and Allison Cleary, Chris, Meaghan and Monica McDonald and three great-granddaughters.

She is also survived by three sisters, LaVerne Taylor of Marmaduke, AudreyRichardson and Dorothy Previtt of Paragould and many adored nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15 at 11 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Pastor Raymond Atwood officiating. Interment will be at Harvey’s Chapel. Geraldine Lou Long, 89, of Paragould, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Belle Meade Nursing Home. 

Mrs. Long was born October 28, 1918, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and a member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ.

She is also survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Chuck and Lorie Long of Marmaduke and Cindy and Brent Trout and Chris and Salina Hardin, all of Paragould; and by seven great-grandchildren, Bethany Long, Hannah Long, Kayden Trout, Bryanna Dees, Michael Dees, Tori Hardin and Lucas Hardin. 

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Long; her parents, Fred and Mattie Richmond; two brothers, J.W. Richmond and Freddie Earl Richmond; and two sisters, Louise Potts and Lucille Reppa.

Joy Morrow Maddox, 77, of Paragould, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Born December 19, 1930, in Beech Grove, she was a retired seamstress and a member of the Church of Christ.

Lily N. Tibbs, 93, of Jonesboro passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008, at her residence. 

Mrs. Tibbs was born November 2, 1914. She was a homemaker and member of Nettleton Church of Christ.

Larry Wayne Greer, 41, of Paragould, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Greer was born November 18, 1966, in Kennett. He was an employee of Garlock Industries and a member of 7th and Mueller Church of Christ. He loved fishing with his son and riding his dad’s motorcycle with friends.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Greer of the home; his mother and stepfather, Peggy and Orville Sessums of Arbyrd; one son, Rusty Greer of the home; and three foster daughters, Joann Hogan, Heidi Stutts, and Samantha Banks, all of the home. He is also survived by one brother, James Greer of Monette; one half-brother, Tad Sessums of Arbyrd; and by two half-sisters, Peggy Ward of Arbyrd and Heather Mullins of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Irby Greer; and by a daughter, Casie Amanda Greer.

Sheryle O. Greene, 84, of Roland died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Baptist Hospital at Little Rock. 

He was born in Greene County and had lived at Roland for seven years, moving from Jonesboro. He was a retired factory worker for General Electric and a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. 

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

Billy was retired from the Marine Corps and was of the Baptist faith.

Johny Mack Futrell, born Jan. 10,1943, in Paragould passed away March 17, 2008, in Fayetteville.

Frances Garner



Frances (Patterson) Garner got to meet her Lord and Savior face to face on the morning of March 19, 2008, when she passed, during peaceful sleep, from this earthly life after 98 1/2 years. She had a love for her Lord, family and fun.

Born Oct. 22, 1909, she was married to the late Ollie E. Patterson for 48 years. After he went to meet our Lord, she later married the late Maynard (Pete) Garner. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Rebal Casebier of Harrisburg, Margaret Olive of Paragould, Helen Barnhill of Tennessee, Nina Mangrum and one son, Ollie E. (Pat) Patterson, Jr., both of Alvarado, Texas. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grand children.

Edna Kelley McDaniel 



Edna Kelley McDaniel, 90, of Paragould died Friday, March 21, 2008, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital. 

Born August 8, 1917, Mrs. McDaniel had lived in Paragould for the past eight years, moving there from Jonesboro. She was a member of the Faith Temple Church of Paragould. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoying crochet and knitting and making quilts for her grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.A. “Buster” McDaniel, her parents, two brothers, one sister, two daughters, one son and four grandchildren. 

She is survived by one son, Jerry and Brenda Kelley of Paragould; daughters, Audrey and Lee Patella of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Johnnie Pruitt of Jackson, Mo.; Kathy Kelley of Paragould; one brother, Buddy Kelley of Belle Glade, Fla.; sisters, Ruby Armour of Cash; Katherine Chism of Little Rock; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Flossie Agnes Oliver, 97, of Paragould, died Thursday, March 20, 2008. She was born June 29, 1920 the daughter of the late Lindsey and Sylvia Martin Thompson in Greene County, Arkansas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Oliver; grandchild, Parvin Crawford Lee, III. and great grandchild, Erica Davis. 

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God. She is survived by her son, Jack L. Oliver of Cherokee Village; daughters: Joan Lee of Bloomfield Village, Michigan, Kay Futrell of Cherokee Village; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mary Jane Cooper was born June 1, 1916, to Clyde Ellis Cooper and Rosa Ellen Cooper at Paragould. She departed this life to be with the Lord and many of her loved ones on Friday, March 21, 2008, at Paragould. She was a lifelong resident of Paragould and a member of the Gainesville Church of Christ. 

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Jane and John Miller, Tom and Tonya Wray, Sharon and James Dunkin, Ramona Becker and companion Glenn Morgan Sr., and Harlan Cooper; and a sister-in-law, Louise Cooper, all of Paragould; great-nieces and great-nephews, Gretchen, Brian and Cooper Clayton, Mallory and Kevin Caruthers, Destiny Wray, Joseph, Jacqueline, Justice and Noah King; along with a host of many others. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Jake and John Cooper, Lucile Wray and Lucretia Cooper.

Timothy Wayne Dunavin, age 49, of Paragould, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 at the
Arkansas Methodist Hospital, Paragould. Timothy was born October 9, 1958 in Leachville, AR.

He retired from Anderson Fittings in Oak Forest, IL., where he made plumbing fixtures. Timothy lived most of
his life near Chicago, but always considered Arkansas to be "Home".

Timothy moved back to Arkansas in 2005.  Timothy was a member of the Monette Assembly of God.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Jane Hughes Symmes Dunavin of the home; two daughters, Ashley Nicole Dunavin and Hannah Rose Dunavin of the home; his father, Jeff Wayne Dunavin of Lake Village, IN.; his mother, Ellen Joyce Boyd Dunavin of Demotte, IN.; two brothers, Mark Jeffrey Dunavin of Paragould and William Dunavin of Tempe, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jeff and Tressie Dunavin of
Monette, as well as Ernest Boyd of Flint, MI and Magdalene Brown of Paragould, AR.
Visitation will be Monday, March 24, 2008 from 6.00 p.m. until 8.00 p. m. with a short service at 7:30 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette. The cremated remains given to the wife to be spread in the country near the
family home.

Frank’ Galczynski



Ed Francis Joseph “Frank” Galczynski, 66, passed away March 21, 2008, at his home in Paragould. He was born January 29, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Francis Albert and Estella Lucille Galczynski. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Elks Lodge of St. Louis. He lived in Paragould for the past 14 years and loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by two sons Thomas and Scott Galczynski of Paragould, one daughter Destie West of Paragould, two step-daughters Gena Ellis of Paragould and Lena Summers of Lafe, six brothers Ron, Leo, Bob, Dennis, Stanley and Raymond Galczynski all of St. Louis, Mo., 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2008, at Phillips Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tom, Scott and Jake Galczynski, Kevin and Kurtis West and Porter Summers.

Willis F. Friar 



Willis F. Friar, 84, of Hoxie passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008.

Born at Beech Grove, he was a carpenter and member of the First Assembly of God. 

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Friar of the home; three sisters, Charlene Strong of St. Louis and Vella Fedyk and Linda Friar, both of Hoxie; and several nieces and nephews. 

A service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Bryan Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home of Hoxie.

Irene L. Holcomb 



Irene L. Holcomb, 87, of Benton died Saturday, March 22, 2008. 

She was born July 24, 1920, at Paragould to the late J.B. and Viola McDonald. 

Irene was a housewife and a member of Congo Road Baptist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, the Rev. Jesse Holcomb; daughter, Glenda Black Knox; sister and brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert and Marie Johnson; sister, Nima Mercing; and brothers, J.B. McDonald and Dalton McDonald. 

The Rev. and Mrs. Holcomb served at churches in Arkansas and Missouri for 53 years, including Second Baptist Church at Monticello, Grand Avenue Baptist Church at Hot Springs, Leonard Street Baptist Church at Hot Springs, East Side Baptist Church at Paragould, Congo Road Baptist Church at Benton and Salem Baptist Church at Benton. 

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jan Parker and husband Cliff of Paragould; sister, Wilma Pigue of Little Rock; grandsons, Derrick Black and wife Kathy of Cabot, Marque Black of Benton, Dell Black of Pine Bluff, Keith Crook and wife Gina of Paragould; granddaughters, ReNae Getson and husband Keith of Paragould, and Cindy Davis and husband Michael of Pine Bluff; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 3:30 p.m. in Center Hill Cemetery at Paragould. Ministers will be David Mitchell and Jim Hughes.

Vera Faustenia Parkinson, 90, of Paragould died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Belle Meade Nursing Center. 

Born March 26, 1917, at Paragould, she was a homemaker and a member of Pine Knot Church of Christ. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Diane Parkinson of Paragould.

James Frost

 


James William Frost, 82, of Paragould died Sunday, March 23, 2008 in Paragould. 
He was born May 25, 1925 in Conway the son of the late Elmer and Rose Rogers Frost. 

He was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. He was Pentecost, a World War II Army Veteran, and worked on the Cotton Belt Railroad. 

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Back Frost of the home; daughters: Anna Anderson, Brenda Hartley, both of Paragould, Bobbie Fresen of Truman, Cathy Walker of Caraway; son, James W. Frost, II. of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; brother, Bobby Wayne Frost of Paragould; fifteen grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home. 
His life will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Bill Snow officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.

Ray Pruett 



Ray Pruett, 72, of Walnut Ridge died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. 

He had lived in Walnut Ridge most of his life. He loved collecting John Deere tractors and camping. Earlier in his life he farmed and was retired from Hytrol, where he was known as “Papaw” to all. He was of the Baptist belief. 

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marjorie Pruett of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kelley and Vivian Pruett of Walnut Ridge; daughters, Jammie Weir of Hoxie, Janice Parsons and her fiance, Nickey Ditto of Paragould; stepsons, Gary Liles and wife Cheryl of Lorado and Timothy Murphy of Woodriver, Ill.; stepdaughters Dorsie Shaw and husband Jeff of Conway, Geyvon Crest and husband Mark of Corning; brother, Jerry Pruett and wife Barbara of Livingston, Texas; sisters, Lovan Jones and husband Art of Boswell, Ellen McNatt and husband John of Paris, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Ray and Beulah Mae Shelton Pruett; grandson, Nicholas Pruett; and great-granddaughter, Christian Liles. 

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Marion Stringer officiating. Burial will follow in Lorado Cemetery. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Timmy Ray Smart



Timmy Ray Smart of Clay County, was born March 28, 1959 to Ivan Smart and Sue Lindsey. He departed this life on March 23, 2008, at the age of 48 years, 11 months, and 25 days.

Timmy was a farmer and had served in the National Guard and a member of Union Home General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his father and step-mother, Ivan and Judy Smart of Greenway and his mother, Sue Lindsey of Rector; a brother, Shannon Smart of Piggott, and a sister, Mindy Smart Carter of Lake City and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel in Rector. Funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home with Davey Winberry officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery west of Rector.

Therral Edward Clark Sr. 



Therral Edward Clark Sr., 74, died Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Beverly Hospital in Beverly, MA. 

He was born June 24, 1933, in Paragould to the late John and Lora Clark. He went to Dixie School and worked on the family farm until he went into the Navy, where he served during Korea. 

He was pastor at a General Baptist Church near Harrisburg for more than 20 years. Mr. Clark was also a master electrician and retired from MAC/Roland Inc. after 17 years. He also had worked for Grace Electric, and one of the many places he wired was the ASU football stadium. He attended Central Baptist Church. He loved to work and travel and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. 

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Cole Clark of the home; two sons, Therral Clark Jr. of Ipswich, Mass., and Jason Nelson of La Jolla, Calif.; five daughters, Cathy Clark of Boston, Catrenia Joly and her husband, Sean, of Georgetown, Mass., Heidi Gregory and husband, Anthony, of Dacula, Ga., Heather Nelson of Little Rock and Hilde White and husband, David, of Jonesboro; two brothers, Floyd Clark of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Dale Clark of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two sisters, Mildred Blanchett of Senath, Mo., and Mathel Murray and husband, Otis, of Union Grove, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Gregg Funeral Home at Jonesboro with the Rev. Mike Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Daniel B. Rusak

 




Daniel B. Rusak, 80, of Paragould died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born November 6, 1927 in Streator, Illinois the son of the late John and Barbara Rusak.

Daniel was a World War II, Marine veteran. He was retired from Phillips County Community College as Dean of Students and was formerly the Stanford School Superintendent. He was of Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife, Berta Gramling Rusak of the home; one son, Danny Rusak of Dixie, Idaho; one daughter, Barbara Frank of Mansfield, Ohio; sister, Lucille Weber of Ransom, Illinois and three grandchildren: David Roach of Jonesboro, and Sarah Roach and Matthew Rusak of Paragould.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Deacon Rex Bouldin officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 pm, Sunday at Heath Funeral Home.

Gloria Diana Jarrett 



Gloria Diana Jarrett, 70, of Paragould died Thursday, March 27, in Little Rock at UAMS. 

She was born November 2, 1937, in Greene County. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence M. Blake; parents, Vernon “Skeet” and Orene Woods Rogers; and sister, Sandra McChristian. 

She was a 1956 graduate of Paragould High School, sold propane at IFH, Thermogas and Brewer Brothers, and was of the Baptist belief. 

Survivors include her beloved husband, Bill Jarrett of the home; sons, Scott Gatlin and friend Kim Smith, and Tim and Gina Jarrett, all of Paragould; sister, Billie Jean Nicholson of Rogers; grandchildren, Jamie Gatlin of Atlanta, Ashley Gray of Brookland and Natalie Gatlin and Caroline Jarrett, both of Paragould; great-grandchild, Isaac Gatlin; and several friends, especially the Norfolk Lake bunch.

Wanda Lee Hunt, 72, of Paragould, departed this life Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at St. Bernard's Medical Center. 
Mrs. Hunt was born April 19, 1935 in Boone County, and was a homemaker and former custodian at the library. She was of the Baptist faith. 
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Rita Hunt, James and Peggy Hunt, Jason and Virginia Hunt, Leon Hunt and fiancée, Nancy Bullinger; and two daughters, Helen Stuart, Hazel Nesbitt and her husband, Wayne, all of Paragould. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Hunt; her parents, Charles Cecil and Ida Campbell Cecil; one brother, Walter Cecil; two sisters, Norma Story and Willi Faye Terry; and by one grandson, Justin Hunt.

Clyde Vernon Hubbart, 57, left this world Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at his home in Paragould. 

He was born Sept. 7, 1950, in Montgomery, AL., to Clyde Vernon Hubbart Sr. and Loretta Sullivan Hubbart. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark R. Hubbart. 

He is survived by two sons, Gerry K. Hubbart of Conway and Clyde V. Hubbart of Russellville; one daughter, Jenifer L. Williams of Sacramento, Calif.; two stepchildren, Amanda Prince and Andrew Prince of Paragould; and four grandchildren, Layla Jade Hubbart, Conner Elijah Hubbart, Emma Kathryn Williams and Julia Louise Williams.

Arlin Pollock, 70, of Paragould, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at his residence. A farmer, he had lived al his life in Greene County.

He is survived by his wife, Lafon Hall Pollock of the home; his daughter, Connie Clifford; sons, Terry, Gary, Ricky and Jimmy Pollock; brother, Charles Dean Pollock; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ray F. Benton



Entered into rest Thursday, March 27, 2008, Mr. Ray F. Benton, 61, of Edgefield, S.C., beloved husband of Mrs. Patsy Jennings Benton and son of the late Arlin Murtis and Lucy Mae Hendrickson Benton.

Born in Paragould, he was a member of the Treasurer of Bible Baptist Church, Edgefield, S.C. He retired from Kimberly-Clark after thirty-three years of service. An avid outdoorsman, Ray loved to camp, fish and hunt. He was also an avid Midland Valley Mustangs fan.

In addition to his wife, family members include, a daughter, Shiray Ready, (Dean) Stiefeltown, S.C.; sons, Murtis Benton (Lee) and Channing Benton, both of Edgefield; brothers, the late William “Bill” Benton and James Benton, (Jean) Hondo, Texas; sisters, Melvia Benton, Colopaxi, Colo., and Barbara King, Tallahassee, Fla.; sister-in-law, Lavon Benton, and grandchildren, Carla Ready, Nick Ready, Hasting Ready, Tatelyn Rae Benton, and a special granddaughter, Deann Ready. His nieces and nephews were very special to him.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Gloverville First Baptist Church, Gloverville, S.C., with Revs. Alan Tillman and Carl Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, S.C. Pallbearers will be Travis Wheat, Keith Taylor, Darryl McElhaney, Jerry Hightower, Jeremy Holsonback and Mark Gregory. Veleta Jean Rowland, 79, of Paragould died Friday, March 28, 2008 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. 
She was born December 20, 1928 in the Coffman Community the daughter of the late Elias Jackson “E.J.” and Rella Mae Taylor Adams. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lake Street Baptist Church. 

Jean was also preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Lee “Doad” Rowland; one grandson, Timothy Charles Rowland; her parents-in-laws, Arlist and Irene Rowland; brothers: Willie, George, Bud, and Ancil Adams, and James and Edward Craigmiles; sisters: Gladys Adams, Earline Turner, Ada Kennedy, and Viola McDonald. 
Surviors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Terry Rowland of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Keith Davis of Paragould; granddaughters and husbands, Cindy and Clay Harrison of Cardwell, Missouri, and Amber and J.R. Homer Mack Price 



Homer Mack Price, 74, of Paragould, passed away in the early morning hours of March 28, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family. 
Homer was born September 6, 1933, in Jonesboro, to Fred and Daisy Lee Price. He had a membership at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; five older brothers, Darrell, Harold, Leroy, Carrol and Cleo; and by a great grandson, Charles William Watkins. 
Homer wore many hats in his lifetime, including service station attendant and truck driver. He worked at Trice’s Furniture for twenty years, and retired as Fire Captain from the Paragould Fire Department in the early ‘80s. He went on to work for Paragould City Light and Water until early retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work and mornings at Terry’s Café. But of all of the hats that he has worn, none fit him as well as “husband”, “daddy” and “papa”. 
Homer is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy; two sons, Russell Mack Price and Gary Dale Price; and daughter, Teresa Nan Speaks, all of Jonesboro. He is also survived by two sisters, Mable Reeks and Martha Anderson, both of Paragould; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. 
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Tracy Archibald officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Walcott. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. Saturday, at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Larry Scott, 73, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at his residence. 

He had lived the past 20 years in Walnut Ridge, coming from the Fontaine community. An Army veteran, he worked for General Electric and had also engaged in farming. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary Simpson Scott; a son, Timothy Scott; brothers, Caraway, Bill, Thomas and Floyd Scott; and sister, Nora Thompson. 

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Cundiff of Wichita, Kan., Janie Davis of Bono and Mary Russell of Cabot; sons, Ronny Scott of Athens, Tenn., John Scott of Cabot, Tom Scott of Little Rock and Patrick Scott of Jonesboro; a sister, Lena Childers of Jonesboro; brothers, Loyde and Ray Scott, both of Walnut Ridge, and Joe Scott of Blue Eye, Mo.; and special friend, Martha Gibson of Walnut Ridge.

Lavada Clark, 89, formerly of Monette, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, at San Antonio. 

She was born June 20, 1918, in Craighead County. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskel Clark, in 2000. 

She is survived by her son, Bob Clark of San Antonio; her grandchildren, Steve Clark and his wife Patti of Braselston, Ga., Melissa Lehmberg and her husband Mark and their children Ashley and James Wilbanks of San Antonio, and Lori Smith and her husband Rob and their children Tyler and Braden of West Point, Miss. 

A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in Gregg Funeral Home at Monette with burial to follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould. 

Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. in Gregg Funeral Home at Monette.

Norman H. Farley



Norman H. Farley, 80, of Anderson, Texas, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, at his residence.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m..April 1, 2008, at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel.

Norman was born in Greene County on March 6, 1928, son of Tony and Eula (Garner) Farley. He graduated from Stanford High in Greene County in 1945 and then served in World War II with the U.S. Navy. He married Deloris (Peggy) Adams on Oct. 20, 1949, in Paragould, and served in the Korean War with the U.S. Marine Corps. Afterward, Norman served with the Arkansas Army National Guard in Little Rock where he retired as a Colonel. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association (ROA). After his military service, Norman spent most of his career as a quality control inspector with Associated Milk Producers Incorporated (AMPI) and retired in 1989 after 26 years of employment.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orman and Houston; sister, Verneil Shock; and son-in-law, Mike Carpenter.

Norman is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Farley of Anderson; daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Chuck Taylor of Texarkana and Rhonda Carpenter of Huntsville, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Pat Farley of Magnolia, Texas; sister, Wilda Harris of Jonesboro; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and six step-great-grandchildren.

Paul Greene



Paul Greene, 82, died Friday March 28, 2008 in Abilene, Texas. Mr. Greene was born November,30, 1925. 
Graveside services will be Tuesday April 1 at 2 p.m. at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould and will be directed by Heath Funeral Home.

Onegin Hunt 



Onegin Hunt, 78, of Paragould died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at her home. 

She was born January 1, 1930, at Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Oliver and Olene Farrar Scott. 

She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Futrell Hunt; and brothers, James Edward Scott and Douglas Scott. 

She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for the first part of her life; for the last 27 years, she belonged to Lake Street Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and mother. 

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Robert May; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Lisa Hunt; sisters, Phyllis Manis and Vida Rhoades, all of Paragould, and Shirley Malick of Little Rock; grandchildren, Paige Mears of Jonesboro, Heather Dunlap of Piggott, Russell Hunt Jr. and Anthony Ross Hunt, both of Paragould, and Bradley Elkins of Hot Springs; and three great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in Heath Funeral Home. 

Her life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heath Colonial Chapel with Adrian Denham officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Martha Bell Morgan 




Martha Bell Morgan, 69, of Paragould, died Monday, March 31, 2008, at her residence. 
She was born May, 13, 1938, in Benton, Missouri, to James Otis and Gustovel Woods. Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God. 
Survivors include her husband, Burnin Morgan of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Sandy Morgan of Paragould; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Bernadine and Jerry Brown of Lafe, and Darlene and Jim Freeman of Tupelo, Mississippi. She is also survived by five brothers, Eugene Woods of Yuma, Arizona, Lloyd Woods of Velvet Ridge, Dale Woods of Leachville, Robert Woods and Johnny Woods, both of Paragould; five sisters, Louise Morgan of Paragould, Mae Loos of Weiser, Idaho, Linda McMinn of Leachville, Della Fortner and Sue French both of Atlanta, Georgia; and by seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth Dale Morgan; and by one sister, Betty June Hill. 
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould. 
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 2nd, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with Carter Grindstaff officiating. Burial will follow in Cardwell Cemetery.

Kyra Thomas 



Kyra Elizabeth Grace Thomas, 3, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. 

She was born March 13, 2005, at Columbus, Ga., and had lived in Paragould since November 2007. 

Kyra is survived by her mother, Kechia Burrow Slayton of Paragould; grandfather, Max Burrow of Paragould; brothers, Jackson Thomas of Paragould, Zachary Allen Rogers of Kennett, Mo., Nicholas Slayton and Maxbee Alexander Slayton, both of Macon, Ga.; and uncle, Max Lee Burrow of Paragould. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Sunshine Lakechia Slayton; and aunt, Tonya Burrow.
