Lessie Almarie Dial


 

Lessie "Almarie" Cox Dial, age 80 of the Finch Community passed away Friday, May 1, 2009at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She was born October, 25, 1928.
Almarie was a member of the Liberty Church of Chirst and retired from Greene County Tech after 24 1/2 years as a cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dellas "Bill" Dial, parents, Willie and Flossie Miller Cox, 2 sons-in-law, Harold North and Jeff Cole.
Survivors include daughters, Sherlene North and Becky Cole of Paragould; grandsons, Terry North, Chris and Brian Hall all of Paragould. Eric North of Waynesboro, PA and Hancel Hall of Jonesboro. sister, Laneal Smart of Marionville, MO. 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Jeff Dial and Michael Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. The family has requested memorials be made to the Liberty Cemetery Fund.

Ruthie Mae Griggs

 

Ruthie Mae Griggs, age 77, of Paragould, formerly of West Ridge, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009, in Arkansas Methodist Hospital, Paragould. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lula Mae Stroud; husband, Woody C. Griggs; son, Johnny Griggs; daughter, Sherry Griggs; stepmother, Ima Stroud; two sisters; and a stillborn daughter.

Survivors include sons, Roger, Paul and Andy Griggs all of Paragould, and Clyde Griggs of Wynne; daughters, Joyce Lawrence of Wynne, Sybil Sampson of Sebastian, FL.; brother, Charles McVay of CA.; sisters, Betty Steakley of Lepanto and JoAnn Parker of Lepanto; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6th at Murphy Funeral Home in Lepanto with grandson Roger Griggs Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Potter Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Doris Elane Williams


 

Doris Elane Williams, age 80 of Paragould, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Sunshine Manor.
Doris was a retired factory worker having worked at Ed White, Jr. Shoe Factory and Emerson Electric.

Born February 21, 1929, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand Theodore and Ruth Christian Crews Schwamb and a son Wallace Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Williams of the home, sons, Dr. Dwight Williams of Paragould, Marvin Williams of Jonesboro and Calvin Williams of Bremerton, WA; daughters, Regina Kay Roemmich of Memphis, TN and Marsha Chunn of Paragould; brother, Harlan Schwamb of Paragould. 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Dennis Scudder officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be; Jarrod Williams, J. R. Chunn, Blake Williams, Ryan and Brandon Roemmich and Allan Wortman.

Lindel Hooper
 



Lindel Hooper, age 85, of Bryant, formerly of Paragould, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Bryant Health Center.
Born September 22, 1923, in Greene County, she was a retired bookkeeper, and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mrs. Hooper is survived by one daughter, Lee Ann Pearce of Bryant; one brother, Frank Ellis of California; two grandchildren; and by three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hooper; one sister, Betty Leonard; and her parents, Frank and Vivian Ellis.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9th, at Shiloh Cemetery with Herbert Starr officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m., Saturday.

Dora Frey


 

Dora Earnheart Frey, age 90, of Raleigh, N.C., formerly of Paragould, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, in Wake Forest, N.C.
Born October 6, 1918, in Paragould, she retired as an insurance clerk from Family Practice Clinic of Paragould, and was a member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ.

For the past seven years Mrs. Frey lived in Raleigh with her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ken Letsch. Other survivors include daughter, Barbara Hahn and son-in-law, John Hahn of Grand Blanc, MI; grandchildren, Steve Hahn of Northfield, MN, Keith Hahn of Westland, MI, Kenna Walker of Wake Forest, N.C., and Lisa Baker of Raleigh, N.C. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Cathrine and Nathan Walker, Kaylee and Kristy Baker, Erin and Luke Hahn.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Frey; her parents, Henry and Rosalee Pillow Earnheart; a brother, Earl Earnheart; and two sisters, Pearl Stuart and Erma Emmert.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13th, at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery with James A. Brown officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m.

Ronald Clark

 

Ronald Gordan Clark, age 69, of Cherokee Village, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009 in Jonesboro. Ron was a 20 year veteran from the United States Air Force. He also retired from teaching, he taught 17 years in Tunica, MS and 4 years at Desoto County School in Hernando, MS. He retired to Cherokee Village in 2005 and is a member of First Baptist Church in Hardy. Ron enjoyed Golfing, Fishing, Boating and Rock Hounding.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Cleo Clark and one grandson Patrick Crafton Clark.

He is also survived by his wife Dorothy Clark; two Daughters, Ronda Griffith and Christy Huffman both of Savanah, GA; four sons, Phillip Clark of Tampa, FL, Patrick Clark of Mountain View, AR, Curtis and Dennis Hamlett of Kennett, MO; two sisters, Paula Richardson of Jonesboro, AR, Ramona Parker of Southaven, MS; Seventeen grandchildren and Sixteen great-grandchildren

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 11th at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral service will be at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 12th with Dr. Larry Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Hamlett, Dustin Hamlett. Richie Prince Jr, Christopher Hamlett, Matthew Hamlett and Timmy Hill.

Peggy Mae Dacus

 

Peggy Mae Dacus, age 64, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Living the past few years in Walnut Ridge, she was a retired bookkeeper and store clerk. She was a member of Free Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Charlene Noblin Andrews.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Dacus of the home; twin sister, Patsy Gwaltney of Hardy; and brother, Theodore Andrews of Walnut Ridge.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13th at the House-Gregg Funeral Home with Don House officiating. Burial will follow in Lorado Cemetery near Walcott.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

John Earl Price


 

John Earl Price, age 68, of Marmaduke was born on September 11, 1940, to John Willard and Avis LaVerne Edwards Price. He passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

John was an avid fisherman and retired from Darling Store Fixtures after 29 years. He was a faithful member of the Hurricane Methodist Church until 1995 when it closed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Willard and Avis LaVerne Price; brothers Garry and Keith Price; sister Shelia Faries and nephews Glenn Gibson and Jon Faries.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of the home; sons and daughter, Michael and Michelle Price, Tim and Kenny Walker and John (Eric) Price, 4 grandchildren, Ashton, Landon, Katelyn and Kylie Walker.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, May 15th at 10:00 a.m. at Marmaduke 1st Baptist Church with the Revs. Kim Bridges and Marston Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Hartsoe Cemetery.

Bobby Eugene Mobley

 

Bobby Eugene Mobley, age 67, of Paragould, passed away May 11, 2009 in the John McClelland Veteran’s Hospital in Little Rock. Bobby was born March 3, 1942 in Lafe, he was a factory worker, an Army veteran of the Vietnam era and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother, Imogene Adkinson of Heber Springs, AR., three brothers, James, Jerry, and Freddy White, all of Paragould; two sisters, Linda Coop of Heber Springs, and Judy Stanley of Paragould, and a good friend, Jeffery Todd Privett, of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elbert White, and one sister, Candy Sue Adkinson.

Graveside services and burial will be held Thursday, May 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Providence Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Gene Wright officiating. There will be no public visitation. Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould will be in charge of arrangements.

Alfred Reed



Alfred “Al” Reed, age 51, passed away Monday, May 11, 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Reed of the home; his grandmother, Juanita Reed, his parents, Carol and Loretta Reed of Beebe, four daughters, Tara Reed, Michelle Reed, Cassey Reed and Hannah Reed, a sister, and two grandchildren.

Rev. Max Newton Gregory

 

Rev. Max Newton Gregory, age of 77, of Paragould was born October 23, 1931, he passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Max received a Bachelors degree in Math and History from Arkansas State University and a Masters of Divinity degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Max dedicated his life to Christian service in many capacities. He served as music and educational director at churches in Tennessee and Missouri, Pastor of 1st Baptist Church in Senath, MO, Director of Missions of Little Bon Femme and Current Gaines Baptist Associations. After retiring in 1993, he continued serving as interim pastor at 13 area churches, supplying and preaching revivals.

Preceding him in death were his parents, T. R. “Pete” and Lanette Rogers Gregory, brother, H.H. Gregory.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Cato Gregory of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and David Roberson of Owensboro, KY and Laura and Brian Hofmeister of Alto, N.M. Grandchildren, Tyler and Andrea Roberson and Mackenzie and Paige Hofmeister.

Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Steeger officiating.
Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Russell Wheeler
 


Russell Wheeler, age 80, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

He retired as store manager after 38 years with Kroger and pursued his hobbies of woodworking, computers and gardening. Russell was a member of Center Hill Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Alline Wheeler of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pauletta and Mike Brown of Seward, NE., and Beverly and Dennis Hanes of Poplar Bluff, MO., three grandchildren, Russell Brown, Eric Hanes and Dusty Hanes; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Logan and Jonah Brown.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 this evening in Phillips Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16th in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Jon Binkley and David Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Serving as active pallbearers will be the elders of the Center Hill Church of Christ, Darrell Webb, Keith Bryson, Carlton Bryson, Terry Sanders, Chuck Palmer and Charles Long.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Rowe, Vernon Lacey and Jearl Howard.

Glen Houston Stewart
 


Glen Stewart, age 83 of Rector, passed away at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center on May 13, 2009. He was born October 8, 1925 to the late Alfonzo “Fannie” and Floy Belle (Light) Stewart in Walcott. Glen served as a paratrooper in World War II, he drove a truck for many years and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ovella Sheffield and Louise Nichols and two brothers, Charles and Bob Stewart.

Glen is survived by his wife, Helen (Hovis) Stewart to whom he was married for 59 years; one son, Mark Stewart of Owensville, Mo.; and two sisters, Sue Watson of Rector and Jean Douglas of Columbia, Ill.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16th at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with Brother Neal Watson officiating.

Earl Dallas Mitchell

 

Earl Dallas Mitchell, age 86, of Marmaduke, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was a farmer and World War II Army veteran. He was born December 3, 1922 in Steele, MO. the son of the late Roy and Rebecca Mitchell.

 He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home, daughter and son-in-law: Sherry and Tomie White of Blytheville, sisters, Mildred Bruschi of Dalton, GA., and Elizabeth Wes Warren, brothers, John Hasken Mitchell, Julian Mitchell, all of Blytheville, and Kenneth Mitchell of Tichnor, grandchildren and spouse, Whitney and Matt Mosely and Misty White, and two great grandchildren.

Kenneth Taylor


 

Kenneth France Taylor, age 68, of Paragould, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment. Kenneth was born November 15, 1940 the son of the late Frances and Janie Elois Taylor. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Kenneth Cody Hyde and sisters, Joann Dearman and Dixie Richmond.

Marcia Priscilla Haizlip


 

Marcia Priscilla Haizlip, age 94 of Paragould passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. Marcia was born October 19, 1914, she was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Haizlip, parents, Alpha Martin and Veta Melnotte Sanneback Owen, brother, David Owen; sisters, Phyllis Owen, Pat Ainley, Carol Rhodes and Dorothy Owen.

Survivors include son, Stephen Owen Haizlip of Paragould, daughters and son-in-law, Susan Jane Glenn of Lakeland, FL, Christy Ann and Bill Blackshear of Rogers, AR, Marcia Beth Haizlip of Paragould, sister, Mary Alice Connor of Paragould, grandchildren and grandson-in-law, Will Blackshear, Emily and Matt Hull, Trent and Todd Glenn.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 18th at 4:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Paragould with Rev. Don Thomas officiating.
Private family burial will be at Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Elizabeth Kendall Fund at the First Presbyterian Church.

Mary Alma Harris
 


Mary Alma Rhea Harris, age 78, of Jonesboro passed away Friday, May 15, 2009, at Lakeside Nursing Center at Lake City.

She was born in Greene County on January 14, 1931, to Jim and Lula Bobo Rhea. She loved babies, baby-sat in her home for many years, was a charter member of University Baptist Church and was known for her delicious “hot rolls”.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra (Jackie) and Tommy Simmons and Brenda and Jim Tubbs, all of Jonesboro; one son and his wife, James and Treona Harris of Pocahontas; brother, Roy Rhea; and sister, Imogene Rudd. She is also survived by six granddaughters, Jennifer Timmons, Kari Watkins, Autumn Tubbs, Hannah Tubbs, Brittany Harris and Katie Harris; and by great-grandchildren, Justice, Ila Beth, Grey, Eden and Fuller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 48 years, Barney Leon Harris. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Doc, Donald, Ernest, James and Jeff Rhea; and a sister, Gladys Duffel.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 18th in the Roller-Farmers Union Chapel at Jonesboro with Mike Blackwood officiating. Burial will follow in Rutherford Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Charles Bowie, Fred Burrow, Larry Norman, Tim Rigsbee, Wayne Timmons and Grant Watkins. Honorary pallbearers will be the ladies of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class of University Baptist Church.

Martha Brandon
 


Martha Brandon, beloved resident of Paragould, passed away at her son’s residence at Fayetteville on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

She was born at Wartrace, TN., on July 18, 1923, to Edd and Frances West.

Martha was preceded in death by her dear husband of 52 years, Morton, in 1997. They enjoyed their retirement years traveling with the Senior Bees.

Martha is survived by her two sons of Fayetteville, Jim and his wife Crystal and Edd; two grandsons, Land and Christopher; one sister, Barbara Terrell of Batesville; and several nieces and nephews.

At her passing she was surrounded by her loving family. A special note of thanks to Nancy Andreason, Edd’s fiance, for her loving care to our beloved mother.

A dedicated Methodist all of her life, Martha more than once recited the scripture, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Martha never met a stranger. Her friendly personality and engaging smile were well known throughout the community. Martha belonged to many organizations such as the Eastern Star, and was the United Methodist Women’s treasurer of the North East chapter for 35 years. She was also a member of the Glenna Rose Circle. She enjoyed the companionship of her dear friends, whether it was exercising weekly at the community center, Red Hat Society, Widows Support Group or volunteer work at her beloved church.

Mr. and Mrs. Brandon operated One Hour Cleaners for many years. After the sale of the business, Martha became the administrative secretary at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center until her retirement.

A celebration of her life will be in the First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. today. Graveside services will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at Shelbyville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, a School of Missions Memorial fund has been established in her honor.

Douglas Owen Grooms

 

Douglas Owen Grooms, age 58, of Memphis, formerly of Paragould passed away May 17, 2009 as the result of an auto accident. He was born July 5, 1950 in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Grooms was a construction worker.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Grooms of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law; Dusty and Tina Grooms of Murfreesboro, TN, Jami and Sandy Grooms of Lawrenceburg, TN and Jeremy and Melissa Grooms of Paragould; parents, Elmer and Mary Kappleman Grooms of Paragould; sisters, Clarice Grooms and Kimberly Sinz of Nashville, TN; and four grandchildren, Gabriel Settlemoir, Katelyn Grooms, Dakota Hall and Sierra Hall.

Everet Donald Cross
 


Evert Donald "Don" Cross, age 71 of Paragould passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, at Advanced Care Hospital in Searcy. He was born on October 28, 1937, in Cardwell, MO.
Don was the owner and operator of Cross Backhoe Service and a member of the New Bethel Assembly of God Church.

Beuren Henry Williams, age 85, of Lafe, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born December 11, 1923, in Gainesville, he was a retired well driller and a member of Lafe Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Galen and Beverly Williams of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Allen Ader of Paragould, and Mary and Don Crow of House Springs, MO. He is also survived by two brothers, Herchel Williams and Eldon Williams, both of Springfield, MO.; three sisters, Naomi Tritch of Lafe, Roella Williams of Paragould, Glenda Rothman of Jackson, MS.; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Dessie Williams; his wife, Pauline Ritchey Williams; one son, Jerry Williams; and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Lottie Marie Edrington, age 91, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at her residence.
Born February 21, 1918, in Flint, MI., Mrs. Edrington was a retired lunchroom supervisor at Crowley’s Ridge Academy, and a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Ed (Sherry) Murray, and Randy Murray all of Riverton, WY; three daughters, Vicki (Chris) Hendley, of Riverton, Joann (Calvin) Douglas, and Lee Reilly, all of Paragould. Also surviving are three sisters, Naomi Ratliff of Paragould, Polly Farmer of San Antonio, TX., and Ruth (Floyd) Smith of Denver, CO.; sisters-in-law, Lois Walker, Clara Slatton and Carolyn Slatton; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Mrs. Edrington was preceded in death by her parents, St. Clair and Pearl Slatton; her husband, Ralph Edrington; one daughter, Carletta Ainsworth; one grandson, Steve Douglas; one sister, Ludene Slatton; and by two brothers, Joe Slatton and Paul Slatton.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Jewell Velma Stallcup, age 92 of Beech Grove passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Jewell was born Jan 27, 1917, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal belief.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Buford Clifton "Dode" Stallcup, an infant daughter, parents, Luey J and Martha Elizabeth North Yates, three brothers and three sisters.

James Boyd Banks, age 49, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at his residence.
He was born November 1, 1959, in Bermuda, and served in the US Navy. Mr. Banks was a farm worker and of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his father, Frank Boyd Banks of Paragould; one brother, Danny Keith Banks of Paragould; and two sisters, Cheryl L. Banks of Union Grove, Alabama, and Susan Murphy of Paragould.
Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Louana Banks.

Ammie “Lucille” Muska was born July 24, 1923, she passed away peacefully at her daughter’s residence in Fenton, MO., May 19, 2009.
She was the beloved wife of the late James “Jim” Muska; daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Miller; loving mother of Evangeline “Van” Culp; dear grandmother of Joel “Joey” (Tonia) Culp and Terri “Lynn” (Russell) Bax; wonderful great grandmother to Cody, Samantha, Garrett, and Dylan Bax and Erin Culp; dear sister of Ruth Dulaney, Dora Decker and Alvin Miller. She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Muska was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Marvin, Clarence, John Nelson, Milbern, and Lavell Miller; and three sisters, Ellen Bryant, Mary Nelsie Bailey and Nora Earline Miller.

Barry Joe Woodson, age 53, of Paragould passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

He was born August 27, 1955, at Flint, MI., to Harold Woodson and Shirley Blount. Barry was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and loved to fish. He was of Baptist faith.

Mr. Woodson was preceded in death by his parents and a grandmother, Iola Barnes.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Woodson; three stepchildren, Jennifer Corter of Memphis, Jeremy Akers of Hot Springs and Tiffany Akers of Osage Beach, MO.; a daughter, Tonya Woodson of FL.; two brothers, Gary and Michael Woodson; one uncle, Bobby Barnes; and two grandchildren, Destine and Jordan Corter.

Aileen Baker

 


Aileen Baker, age 88, formerly of Paragould, passed away Thursday May 21, 2009 in Topeka, KS. Born January 13, 1921, in Gainesville, AR., she was a former member of East Side Baptist church.
At the age of 15, Mrs. Baker left Arkansas for Toledo, OH., where she worked as a nanny. She moved to Detroit, MI., where she met and married Frank L. Baker, also from Arkansas, on February 15, 1941.
They were married for 56 years until her husband's death in 1997.
Mrs. Baker worked in a small factory for the war effort, then later as a hair dresser—a career she held through most of her life.
She and her husband returned to Arkansas in 1978. She moved to Topeka, KS., in 2005. She resided at Lexington Park assisted-living for three years, then at Homestead assisted-living until the time of her death.
Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Baker; parents, Albert and Dora (Ethel) Penney; sisters, Delma Penney, Wilma Penney Smith, Elbertine Penney White, Cleavie Penney Herring; and one brother, Leavie Penney. Mrs. Baker is survived by one son, Terry L. Baker of Canton, MI.; daughter in-law, Georgia Baker, also of Canton; a brother, Donald Penney of Topeka KS., and his wife, Cecile Penney; a sister, Pauline Penney, also of Topeka; one grandson, Cary L. Baker of Dearborn, MI., and his wife, Giovanna Baker; and two great-grandchildren, Christina and Michelle Baker, also of Dearborn.

Maydean Gossett, age 93, of Marmaduke, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. She was born near Paragould, June 29, 1915 to the late William P. Whitney and the late Delcie (Riggs) Tyner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil "Moot" Gossett, son, Raymond Gossett, grandson, Johnny V. Mullins, Whitney brothers and sisters: Goldie, Hester B., Mattie M., Tollie G., Argalie, James; Tyner brothers and sister: Stanley, Graham, Mary L., and nephew Billy Ray Tyner. She was a homemaker living most of her life in Marmaduke except for a few years in California.

She is survived by her son: Robert Gossett of the home; grandsons: Robbie Mullins and wife Heather of Paragould; Ray Gossett and Mother Kiyo of Oxnard, California; Johnny and Tracy Gossett of Pleasanton, California; five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Geneva Wright Faulk, age 84, of Paragould passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 at her daughter’s residence. She was born May 16, 1925 the daughter of the late Joe and Gertha Biggs Wright. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Faulk in November of 2007; and by her brother, Russell Wright. She was of Methodist belief.
Geneva is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Callahan of Batesville, Sharon and Jim Richardson of Paragould, and Anita and Paul Bibb of Pocahontas; grandsons, Jody Callahan of Benton, Chris Jetton of Paragould, Brian Richardson of Paragould, Kevin Richardson of Jonesboro, Corey and Justin Bibb of Pocahontas; one granddaughter, Nicole Nobles of Batesville; one brother, Ronald Wright; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat and Clayton Jamison and Carolyn and Fred Long all of Doniphan, MO.; great grandchildren, Emma, Angel, Andi “Coco”, Jace, Tori, Alix and Forrest ; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside memorial services will be held at Hartsoe Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 27th with Reverend Eddie Gene Wright officiating. Bill B. Warren

 

Bill B. Warren passed away May 24, 2009. Bill graduated from Paragould High School in 1958 and from Arkansas State University in 1963. He taught at Tech until he moved to San Diego, CA., in 1969. Bill became well known in the antique and estate sale business.

His parents, Jim and Estelle Warren, and his brother, Richard, all from Paragould, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his brother, Ted, of Reno, NV. He was fortunate to travel to many parts of the world with his life’s partner, Kent.

A well-attended Celebration of Life was held at his San Diego home.

Virginia Fay West

 

Virginia Fay West, age 80, of Evening Shade, AR., formerly of Paragould, departed this earth following a lengthy illness, on May 25, 2009. At the time of her death at the Hospice House of the Ozarks in Mountain Home, Virginia was comforted and surrounded by the love of her family.
Born November 11, 1928 in Senath, MO., she was preceded in death by her parents, William Gilbert and Mary Francis (Gibson) Springer, six brothers; one sister; one granddaughter; and her son, Kenneth Ray West.

Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Samuel West of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Deborah West of Paragould; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Charles Kendrick of Evening Shade; one sister, Lillie Mae Edwards of Dalton, GA.; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and family.

Virginia leaves behind fond memories as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking, playing card and puzzle games, and the skill of crocheting and quilting. She loved shopping and coordinating all of her attire including jewelry, shoes and purses. Her sense of family, pride in home and dress, as well as her laughter and playfulness, will be missed by all that loved her.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 28th, at 3:30 p.m., at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Jack Bearden officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 3:15 p.m.

Curtis Bradford Beasley



Curtis Bradford Beasley, age 61 of Paragould passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 at his residence of natural causes. He was known to his family as Brad. He was the oldest grandchild of Noah and Essie Beasley, who preceded him in death and were long time residents of Paragould.
Brad was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving in Viet Nam in 1968 at the age of 17. He retired after many years of work in the oilfields in Taft, CA.
He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis Beasley and a grandson, Christopher Michael Anderson. Survivors include, 3 daughters, Teresa Pannels of Cardwell, MO, Elaine Lund of Taft, CA and Brandy Howard of Paragould. Eight grandchildren, Kirston Fancer, Jeremiah and Jessica Pannells, Chase, Sidney, Bailey and Rosemary Howard, his mother, Vivian Stillwell who resides at Belle Meade Nursing Home and a sister, Carol Burnett of Lafe.

Mary Elizabeth McDaniel, age 86, of Weatherford, TX., formerly of Paragould, passed away May 26, 2009. She was born December 3, 1922, to Luke and Emma Coy Tatum in Lake City.

Survivors include five sisters, Johnetafay (Maurice) Heathcock of Eureka Springs, Helen (Ray) McKelvey and Billie Tatum of Morton, IL., Shirley (Charles) Roberts of Weatherford, and Kay (Gene) Smith of Fort Worth, TX. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. McDaniel; an infant daughter, Betty Lou Cupp; one sister, Norma Wynn; four brothers, Joyce Tatum, Jewel Tatum, Earl Tatum, and Luke Tatum, Jr.

Graveside funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 29th at Linwood Cemetery under direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled.

Mable Faulkner

 


Mable Faulkner, age 83, of Paragould, passed away at Belle Meade Nursing Center Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
Born March 29, 1925, in Rice, AR., she was a retired nursing home aide and of the Baptist Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Golve and Nannie Faulkner; one son, Roger Barrow; one daughter, Pamela Pamilson; four brothers, Pete, John, Bit and Bud Faulkner; and by sisters, Cullen Sturkie and Hazel Kennemore.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ruthie Mae and Larry Wheelen of Kimberling City, MO.; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be Thursday from 12:30 until 1:40 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28th, at Union Grove Cemetery with Raymond Atwood officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:40 p.m.

Serafino M. Castelli

 


Serafino "Sam" Castelli, age 55, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at his home. He was a printer and a member of the New Covenant Worship Center.
He was born January 6, 1954 in Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Castelli.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kelsey and Joel Hollis; son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Stephanie Finn, all of Paragould; sisters and brother-in-law: Betty Ann Carillo and Linda and Vinny Varley, both of Lake George, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, Skip and Pat Castelli, New York, NY; five grandchildren: Xylon, Zakary, and Kalyssa Hollis, Maleka and Israel Finn; special friends, Thomas and Jo Moore.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 29th at Heath Colonial Chapel, where his life will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.

Gerald Brown

 

Gerald "Junior" Brown, age 56 of Jonesboro passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at The Med in Memphis as a result of an automobile accident. Junior was a member of the 7th & Mueller Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald T. and Violet Thomas Brown.
Survivors include brothers, Phillip Brown of Paragould and Dennis Brown of Jonesboro; sister, Donna Busby of Garland, TX. Several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, May 31st at 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Steve Bricker officiating.
Burial will follow in New Liberty Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Special Olympics.

Michael Everett Lane
 


Michael Everett Lane, age 34, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009, from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident south of Jonesboro. Born May 28, 1974 in Paragould, Michael lived most of his life in Brookland before moving to Jonesboro in 1994. He was a 1993 graduate of Brookland High School and was a member of Finch Baptist Church. Michael was a member of the Special Olympics Area Seven track and field, swimming and softball teams. He loved to work jigsaw puzzles and was an ink pen collector.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Cotton and Emma Dee Rhea Ellington; and his paternal grandparents, George and Beatrice Lane.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Terria and Ron Davison of the home; his father and step-mother, Walter and Beverly Lane of Jonesboro; one sister, Alisa Gunn of Jonesboro; one stepsister, Alexis Rorex of Jonesboro; two stepbrothers and spouse, Brandon and Bernice Davison of Paragould and Noah Boyd of Jonesboro; three nephews, Caleb Gunn, David Davison and Timmy Masterson; three nieces, Katie Gunn, Savannah Davison and Shelby Masterson; and his baby dog, Daisy.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31st at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Terry Gage officiating. Burial will follow in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers include Terry Songer, Paul Davison, Mickey Marshall, Wesley Reese, Wayne Reese and Jack Ellington.

Honorary pallbearers include members of the Special Olympics Tornadoes softball team.

Beverly Ann Banks
 


Beverly Ann Banks, age 45, of Paragould daughter of the late Bill and Opal Crawford, passed away May 27, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

Survivors include two sons, David Allen Banks and James Manuel Banks and his fiance, Misty Owens, all of Paragould; six brothers, Gary Crawford, Danny Crawford, Billy Crawford, Randy Crawford, Steve Crawford and Donnie Crawford; two sisters, Sharon Kirby and Joan Odom; and special caregiver, Teresa Heussner.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, MO., with graveside services at 11:00 a.m. at Gregory Cemetery in Kennett.

Rev. Hershel Wiseman

 


Rev. Hershel Lee Wiseman, age 54 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at his residence. Hershel was born on October 13, 1954 in Paragould to the late Ervin and Thelma Rogers Wiseman. Along with being a minister he was an auto body worker and of the Pentecostal Faith.

Survivors include his wife; Shirley Wiseman of the home, children and their spouses; Beverly and Charles Ray of Jonesboro, Debbie and Carl Russell, Jackson and Brandi Lansdown, Joycee and Kevin Franklin, Tammy and Robin Decker, Anthony and Jennifer Chamberlain, Regina and Jeff Wright, William and Amy Wiseman, Richard and Misty Wiseman, Winston Wiseman, Olajian Wiseman, Jimmy Wiseman, Aaliyaha Wiseman, Jimmy and Bambi Turner, Amanda and Jimmy Turner, Tracie Wiseman, Bobby Andis, Becky and Larry Cannady all of Paragould, Shena and James Akers of Jonesboro, Jody and Larry Lawrence of CA., Timmy and LaDonna Lansdown of CO., Trina Lansdown of OR., four brothers and five sisters-in-law; Robert “Bob” and Betty Wiseman of Brookland, Louis and Faye Wiseman, Jimmy and Melinda Wiseman all of Paragould, Bennie Harold and Jan Wiseman of Jonesboro, Bessie Wiseman of Hillsboro, MO., one sister and brother-in-law; Carol and James McIntire Sr. of Jonesboro, 60 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 Monday evening at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2nd at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Thelma Jean Johnson, Beverly Warren and Calvin Weatherall officiating burial will follow in Providence Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include; L. John White, Kevin Decker, Dan Bell, Wesley Dixon, Frank Roger and Rickey Hollingsworth. Honorary pallbearers will include, Beverly Warren, Chris Craine, David Lester and Roger Shipman.

Virginia Cathryn Pierceall
 


Virginia Cathryn Pierceall, age 88, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
She was born on February 1, 1921, in Paragould, to John Jackson and Verdie Vitula Little Hampton.

She was retired from Ely and Walker Shirt Factory. Cathryn or “Caty” was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Red Hat Society.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas “Dub” Pierceall; her parents, John and Verdie Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Purvis (Marie) Noel, and Mrs. Dick (Mary) Brittingham; and three brothers, Clifford, Ralph, and John William Hampton.

Survivors include a brother, Paul Hampton of Paragould; a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Marilyn Pierceall of Paragould; two daughters, Mrs. Ronnie (Rose) Lewis and Mrs. Rick (Brenda) Lane, both of Paragould; two grandsons, Tommy Lane of Paragould and Jerry Ray Smith of Brookland; four granddaughters, Kim Pierceall of Hampton, Virginia, Mrs. Eddie (Amy) Broadaway, Mrs. Jamie (Erin) Exum, and Rebecca Lane, all of Paragould; three great grandsons; a special sister-in-law, Agnes Pierceall of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.

Cathryn touched the lives of all who knew her with her spontaneous laughter and joy in living. The special times in her life were times spent with family and friends. She had a zest for life and new adventures, a spirit of giving, a willing acceptance of life’s difficulties, and a love and appreciation for the simple things in life. In her, we found the true meaning of “home”.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 1st at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Garrison officiating. St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A rosary service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould. Visitation will follow until 8:00 p.m.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Mary’s School, Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Foundation, or the Collins Theatre.

Terry D. Moore



Terry D. Moore, age 73, of Paragould passed away Friday, May 29, 2009.

He was born July 30, 1935, at Elaine to Joseph Nelson Moore II and Lorene Butler Moore.

Terry was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed many hobbies, including motorcycles, sailboats, making model boats and airplanes and gardening.

Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sondra Moore and Randy St. Clair.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Moore; son, Douglas Moore of Finch; two brothers, Michael Moore of Charlestown, N.H., and Nelson Moore of Jonesboro; one sister, Nancy Moore of Defuniak Springs, FL.; and five grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, Jonathan, Chrissy and Rebecca Moore.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 2nd in Old Bethel Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Vernelia Smith



Vernelia Smith of Marmaduke departed this life on Friday, May 29, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Smith was a member of Cappadocia General Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Farrell Smith; one son, Ronald Smith; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Braden; and one great-grandson, Justin.

Survivors include one daughter, Gayla Davis of Marmaduke; three grandchildren, Richie and Tammy Brady of Marmaduke, Chris and Shelly Brady of Paragould, Angie and David Cox of Paragould; four great-grandchildren, Angel, Shanna, Austin and Colton; one great-great-granddaughter, Lacie; and one brother, James Braden of Marmaduke.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 1st at the Irby Funeral Home, Marmaduke, Ronnie Stevens will officiate. Interment will follow in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel.

Billy Lamb

 

Billy M. Lamb, age 83 of Paragould, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at his residence.
Billy was a retired farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church of Paragould.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W. N. and Oleta Walker Lamb, an infant daughter, Christy Lamb.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene Lamb of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Wayne Stallcup of Beech Grove, Joy and John Folkes of Bartlett, TN. and Anita Lamb Privett of Boston, MA; sisters, Martha Westbrook and Margaret Lamb both of Paragould, grandchildren and spouses, Cliff and Leslie Stallcup, Amy and Daryl Ingram and Amanda Edison.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at Heath Colonial chapel with Revs. Bill Steeger and Joe Marsden officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Jean Frances McHaney



Jean Frances McHaney, 85, of Marmaduke passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, in Lawrence Memorial Hospital at Walnut Ridge.

She was born November 15, 1923, to the late Burt and Callie Sims Shelby.

Mrs. McHaney was a member of the Marmaduke First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Marmaduke Extension Homemakers Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rex McHaney; two brothers, John and Bob Shelby; and a sister, Doris Atkinson.

Survivors include her son, John T. McHaney and wife Alyce of Powhatan; daughter, Debrah Stogsdill of Jonesboro; sister, Joann Martin of Brookland; sister-in-law, Peggy McHaney; three grandchildren, Kimberly Bigger and husband Brock, Shelly England and husband Aaron and Hilary Bowling and husband Jamey; and six great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bigger, Reed Bigger, Cade England, Austin England, Carter Bowling and Calla Bowling.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 1st in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery with Kim Bridges and Lynn McClure officiating. Irby Funeral Home of Marmaduke is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. Sunday in Irby Funeral Home Chapel at Marmaduke.

Michael Wallace Austin



Michael Wallace Austin, age 62, of Indianapolis, IN., passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009.
Born in Paragould to the late Wallace and Jeannie Austin, at age 18 he went to the Polk Louisiana U.S. Army Infantry Training Center and served in Vietnam for two years. Mike moved to Indianapolis almost 40 years ago, where he spent most of his life driving 18-wheelers.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Smith.

He is survived by his sisters, Sandra Teel, Beverly Douglas, Pat Austin and Marla Utley; one brother, Billy Don Austin; three children, Michael Austin Jr., James Austin and Nina Austin; one grandchild, Kasi Austin; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3rd at Soldiers Memorial Chapel at Fort Harrison.

Maurice Welch

 

Maurice “Bear” Welch, age 81, of Stanford, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Welch was born April 13, 1928, in Joplin, TX., and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Walcott Church of Christ and of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Clarene Welch of Stanford; one son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Patty Welch of Locust Grove, AR.; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Sheller of Crawfordsville, AR.; four sisters, Lenora Smith and Dixie June Harvill, both of Paragould, and Marion Mangrum and Talmadge Billingsley, both of Jonesboro.
He is also survived by two grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsay and Stephen Davis of Locust Grove, and Jared and Anna Welch of Quitman; and two great grandchildren, Paislee Davis of Locust Grove, and Madelyn Welch of Quitman

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Bertha Welch; two brothers, Titus and Charles “Bully” Welch; and by two sisters, Drucella Bolin Ward, and Irwana Haun.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 3rd, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Becerra officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
