Elaine Smullin

 

Elaine "Bet" Smullin, 73, of Dittmer, MO, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Lorado, June 5, 1936, to the late Ralph and Rosie Blevens Whitehead. Mrs. Smullin was a member of Lorado Baptist Church, attended St. Martin's United Church of Christ in Dittmer; and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She loved crafting, quilting, eating out, and most of all, spending time with her family. She retired from Coin Acceptors in 1997 after 27 years of service.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Loretta Brown and Joann Williams; two son in laws, Greg Brown and Mike Williams; a step son, Robert Smullin; a daughter in law, Donna Smullin; a step daughter, Rosa Mulvane; a brother, Bud Whitehead; two sisters, Mary Barton and Rose Marie Walters; four grandchildren, Christie Kavanagh and husband Scott, Justin Williams and wife Jessica, Kyle Brown, and Ryan Brown; a great grandchild, Drew Kavanagh; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Smullin; and a sister, Dorthie Roberts.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5th at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with Scott Lohse and Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Lorado.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will include Joe Roberts, Kenny Roberts, Mike Sullivan, Bradley Crowden, Tony Barton and Steve Terrell.

Lasting memorials can be made to Crossroads Cemetery Fund.

J. D. McFarland



Jim “J. D.” McFarland, 89, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Born February 12, 1920, in Paragould, he was the retired owner of McFarland’s Service Station, and a member of the Assembly of God.

Survivors include his wife, Clarene McFarland of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Marion and Janet McFarland; and two sisters, Ruby Hill and Vonda Stanfill, all of Paragould. He is also survived by three stepsons, Ronald, Gaylon and David Holcomb; four grandchildren, Tim McFarland, Tammy Boyd, Britt McFarland, and Jimmy McFarland; nine great grandchildren; and by one great great grandchild.

Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by his parents, W.W. and Rosie McFarland; his first wife, Lela McFarland; and by five sisters, Deller Yergan, Melvina Mear, Willie Hill, Earline Pillow, and Gladys Carmack.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 8th, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Hosier officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tim McFarland, Jimmy McFarland, Britt McFarland, Skylar McFarland, Kyle McFarland, Bodie McFarland and Wesley Crossno.

Linda K. Chambers



Linda K. Johnson Chambers, 62, of Hardy passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Horseshoe Bend.

She is survived by her son, Scott, and Becky Chambers; grandchildren, Ashley, Roman and Kelsey, all of Marmaduke; her father, Murl Johnson of Paragould; and her fiancé`, Richard Tyree of Hardy.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 11th, in New Liberty Missionary Baptist Church at Haliday, north of Paragould, with Les Payne officiating.

Arrangements are by Heath Funeral Home of Highland.

Memorials may be made to New Liberty Church.

Laverne Branum

 

Laverne Branum, 82, of Paragould, passed away October 4, 2009 at her home. Born February 26, 1927 in Fulton County Kentucky, she was retired from Brown Shoe Company of Leechville, and a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Erma Branum of Arbyrd, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Bowen, and Lisa and Michael Cox of Paragould; three brothers, Joe Wright of Paragould, Jim Wright of Kansas, and Tom Wright of Florida; one sister, Mattie Hopper of Paragould; five grandchildren, Dennie Petronio of Canada, Jerry Toombs, Jr. of Paragould, Jo Ann Greer of Walnut Ridge, Justin Cox of Paragould, and Michaela Schaper of Lavaca, Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Morgan Greer, Jake Toombs, Cade Petronio, and Kathryn Cox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Lois Wright, and three brothers, J. T., R. C, and William Wright.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 7, 10:00 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Michael and Justin Cox officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home.

Veeneda Vangilder
 

Veneeda Vangilder, 89, of Rector passed from this life on October 4, 2009, at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born May 1, 1920, to the late Steve and Cora (Pace) Yancey in Greene County, AR.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Vangilder, in 1978.

Veneeda is survived by several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 7th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Irby Funeral Home in Rector with William Vangilder and Freddie Barker officiating. Interment will be at the Woodland Heights Cemetery.
Visitation will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a. m prior to services, at the funeral home.

Genavie Mikel
 


Genavie Mikel, 77 of Paragould passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at her residence. Born September 12, 1932, Genavie was a retired telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and a member of the Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Genavie was preceded in death by her husband Russell Mikel and sister, Glenavie Farley as well as her parents, Alvin E. and Lucie Cothren Gwyn.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Keith and Paula Mikel and Craig Mikel of Paragould; sisters, Ruby Earlene Hammonds of Paragould and Irma Koscielak of Milwaukee, WS; grandchildren, Cory and Stephanie Mikel of Russellville, AR, Shane and Amanda Mikel of Paragould and Brenna and Eric Holland of Kansas City, KS; great grandchildren, Logan Mikel, Griffin Holland, Emma and Madison Mikel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Michael Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Dorothy Laniece Waggle
 


Dorothy Laniece Waggle, 85, of Marmaduke, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
Mrs. Waggle was born September 20, 1924, in Marmaduke. She was a retired secretary of Oldsmobile Division, Detroit, Michigan. She was a member of Marmaduke First Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Alpha Iota Business Sorority. Mrs. Waggle was an avid world traveler and a member of the Nomads Airline Travel Club of Detroit.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Waggle; and her parents, Auley and Velma Williamson.

She is survived by several cousins and friends.

Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould Tuesday evening 6:00 until 9:00.

Services will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, October 7th at 2:00 p.m. with David White and Chad Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery, Marmaduke.

Pallbearers will be Jim Scudder, Tony Gibson, Tyler Scudder, Trevor Scudder, Eric Weaver, and Cameron Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Doyne Shaw and Ben Whittaker.

Memorials to Marmaduke First Baptist Church would be appreciated.

Charles F. Newlin



Charles F. Newlin, 85, of Paragould, formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009, at his home.

He was born at Fordyce on March 14, 1924, to the late Nelson and Nellie Moore Newlin. Charles was raised in Fordyce and graduated from Fordyce High School. He retired from Cotton Belt in 1984 after 41 years; in his early years there, he was a telegraph operator. He was of the Baptist belief and loved doing organic gardening.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Bertha Kirksey Newlin of the home; one daughter, Janice Carol Flanagan of Manassas, Va.; four nieces; and one nephew.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel, Jonesboro, with Wynndel King and Jerry Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Andy Bill Bryant, Mark Gibson, Donnie Griggs, Michael Smith, Joe Kirksey and Jeremy Kirksey.

Visitation will be Thursday evening 5:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Mildred Copeland
 


Mildred Burton Copeland, 86, of Lewisville, TX., formerly of Paragould, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009.

She retired as a school-teacher in Trenton, MI., and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one son, Lowell Copeland of Lewisville; one brother, C.H. Burton of West Plains, Mo.; and two sisters, Doris Rogers of Noblesville, Ind., and Carolyn Jernigan of Paragould.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hall and Maude Burton; her husband, Marvin Copeland; one brother, Hays Burton; and one sister, Sherrill Cooper.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel at Paragould with Jim Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in New Friendship Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Nick Copeland, Danny Jernigan, Jimmy Jernigan and David Jernigan.

Visitation will be this evening 6:00 until 8:00 in the funeral home.

Pearlie Lorene Wilcoxson
 


Pearlie Lorene Wilcoxson, 97, of Baiting Hollow, N.Y., passed away October 5, 2009, after a short illness. She was born August 24, 1912, to Richard Absalom and Dora Newberry Newsom in Walcott. She was married to Avery Jackson Wilcoxson on May 25, 1929; he predeceased her by 37 years. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Wake, Tilda, Ovel, Essie and Bessie.

Mrs. Wilcoxson was a true American. She began life on a farm in Arkansas and later moved to southern Missouri, where she and her husband began a furniture business. In addition to working retail most of her life, she was active in her church, teaching Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, knitting and crocheting, singing in a gospel quartet and choirs and spending time with her family. They describe her as “spunky” and having a zest for life. In 1995, she moved to Baiting Hollow to be with her daughter and family. She was a member of Baiting Hollow Congregational Church and volunteered at the church thrift shop.

Mrs. Willcoxson is survived by her daughter, Monnie Murtha of Baiting Hollow, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Cheryl (Kevin) Hewkin and Catherine (Chris) Kent, both of Baiting Hollow, and Bryan (Sharon) Murtha of Owings, Md.; and six great-grandchildren, Carrie Anne Murtha, Travis, Daniel and Emma Kent and Dylan and Marisa Hewkin.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until service time.

Jerry Jack Sims

 


Jerry Jack Sims, 42, of Paragould, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
Born November 4, 1966, in Paragould, he was owner of Sims Refrigeration and a licensed electrician. Mr. Sims was lead guitarist of the “Road House Band” and of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his father, Jerry M. Sims of Paragould; two daughters, Alexandra Sims and Lora Sims, both of the home; two brothers, John Sims of Mountain Home, Foster Sims of Searcy; and one sister, Savannah Sims of Paragould. He is also survived by one stepbrother, David Hogan of Paragould; and two half-brothers, Jim Waldron of New Orleans, and Steven Franklin Waldron of Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Ann Sims; and his grandparents, Jack and Halavie Dale and E.E. and Lora Sims.

Visitation will be Monday, October 12th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:35 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, at Pine Knot Cemetery with Ben Johnson officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 12:40 p.m.

Rick Walls, Trent Davis, Keith Roberts and Rick McClung will serve as pallbearers.

Gary Wayne Bradley
 


Gary Wayne Bradley, 53, of Longview, TX. formerly of Paragould, went to be with the Lord October 7, 2009 at his residence. Gary was born December 15, 1955 in St. Louis, MO. He attended Paragould High School and served in the United States Navy, a member of the VFW and of the Baptist Faith.
Besides his love and devotion to the Lord, Gary was most proud of his accomplishments in obtaining his black belt and teaching in the Martial Arts field. Gary spent the last 20 years of his life in Longview where he had a small engine repair shop.

Survivors include his mother; Judy Bradley of the home, his father and step mother; Walt and Viola Bradley of Union, MO., one brother and his wife; Randy Gene Bradley and Janet of The Woodlands, TX., a half sister and her husband; Dawn and Jeremy Frye of Warrington, MO., two step brothers; Daryl and Dwayne of Union, MO., nephew and niece; Daniel and Bethany Bradley of The Woodlands, TX., his best friend Rick Hawkinberry of Longview, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial graveside service will be Monday, October 12th, 2:00 p.m. in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery, there will be no visitation. Mitchell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Alice Louise Miles
 


Alice Louise Meacham Miles, 87, passed away Thursday, October 8th, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.
She was born March 5, 1922, in Monette, Arkansas to the late John Calvin and Virgia Mae Meacham. She was a member of Third Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Weldon Miles; her sister, Imogene Dement; brother, Claudius Meacham; and infant sister, Daylean Bibb.

She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Kathie Miles and John and Alice Miles, all of Paragould. She also leaves behind grandchildren and spouses, Alan and Tina Miles of Texarkana, Texas, Jay and Allison Kennedy of North Richland Hills, Texas, Doug and Amy Compton of Paragould; great grandchildren, Tanner and Dalton Miles, Jake and Alden Claire Kennedy, and Levi and Lane Compton; and one sister, Vona Taylor of Wynne.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Rev. Doug Compton and Rev. Bob Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Elvis M. Mackey



Elvis Monroe Mackey, 95, of Bono passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009, at his home.

He was born February 14, 1914 in Jonesboro, to the late Ogle and Lottie Short Mackey. Mr. Mackey was a U.S. Army veteran, where he proudly served in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for McDonnell Douglas and Singer Manufacturing.

He leaves behind his brothers, Jim Mackey of Bono and Harry Mackey of Jonesboro; and a sister, Dean Diglia of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pansy Coleman and Katherine Tisdale.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. today in Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home Chapel at Jonesboro with Troy Mackey officiating. Burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Roy Mackey, Dewayne Mackey, Taylor Mackey, Larry Tolbert, Jimmy Coleman and Don Reed.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from noon-2 p.m.

Melton Thomason

 

Melton "Ray" Thomason, 65, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Ray was born September 27, 1944 in Greene County, AR. He came to know Christ as his personal savior at Calvary Full Gospel Church in Cardwell, MO. and continued his faith attending Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Vestal Thomason, brothers Billy Gene and Bobby Jay.
Ray worked as a barber at City Barber Shop providing 45 years of public service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the fellowship of family and friends.
Survivors include his son, Jason Thomason of Paragould; sisters, Margie Randles of Paragould, Elizabeth Ann Nicosia of Zachary, LA and Bonnie Scott of Paragould; brothers, James Thomason of Paragould, Hugh Allen Thomason of St. Louis, MO, Jackie and Herbert Thomason both of Paragould, and seven nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, October 12th at 10:30 a.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel with Reverend Royce Boling officiating.
Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association.

Boyd Wayne Hicks
 


Boyd Wayne Hicks, Sr., 63, of Paragould, AR., passed away Thursday, October 8, 2009, at his residence.
Born August 11, 1946, in Bono, AR., son of the late Carl Edmond and Ruby Messer Hicks, he was a residential painter.

Survivors include one son, Boyd Wayne Hicks, Jr., of Piedmont, MO.; two daughters, Kim Lyell, of Campbell, MO., and Rose Davis, of Kennett; one sister, Coletta Chandler, of St. Louis, MO.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gary Hicks; one brother, George Hicks and one sister, Carlene Williams.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 13th, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Walcott, AR., with Jim Johnson officiating.

Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

John Morrow
 


John Morrow, 75, of Klamath Falls, OR., passed away October 9, 2009. He was born February 25, 1934, in Stanford, AR..

John was preceded in death by his father and mother, Noel and Daisy Taylor Morrow.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Morrow; his children, John L. (Judy) Morrow, Larry (Tonya) Morrow, Teresa Morrow, Gary (Liz) Morrow and Jason Morrow; six grandsons; seven granddaughters; four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters, all of Oregon; one sister, Betty Morrow Pillow; and one brother, Don (Vickie) Morrow of Paragould and several nieces and nephews.

Lorene Mink
 


Lorene Mink, 90, of Brookland passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She was born at Stanford on February 15, 1919 to Bill and Lula Gatlin. She was a homemaker and a member of Brookland Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by three sons Bud Mink of Success, Donald Mink and his wife Bertha of Brookland, Jerry and his wife Jackie of Conway; two daughters Brenda Elder and her husband Ralph of Brookland, Janette Zuetell and her husband Bill of Frederick, CO; sixteen grandchildren Marlette Stevenson, Stephanie Rose, ReGina Farley, Lisa Warren, Jeff Mink, Tina Mink, William Zuetell, Chad Elder, Matt Mink, Damon Zuetell, Bart Mink, Kevin Mink, Blake Elder, Lindsey Campbell, Suzanne Elder and Dana Zuetell; twenty great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Wesley Gatlin; and a sister, Lucy Holden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Mink Sr.; her parents; a son, Albert L. Mink Jr.; two sisters Shirley Roush and Florence Gann; and two brothers Babe Gatlin and Leland Gatlin.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 12th, 2:00 p.m. at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with Bruce Tippit officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will include Dr. Scott Stubblefield, Dr. Don Howard, Robin Baugus, Jeanie Oden, and Julie Anderson.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Ginger Jones

 

Ginger Jones, 51, of Jonesboro passed away Friday, October 9 2009 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. She was born April 2, 1958 in Paragould to Luther Jones and Zepha Gayle Grubbe. She was a retired nurse. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and landscaping. She was of the Baptist belief.

She is survived by her mother; three brothers Steve Jones of Little Rock, Andy Jones of Paragould and Tim Jones of Jonesboro; two sisters Ann Jones Mooney and Lana Jones Turner, both of Jonesboro; a step-sister, Stephanie Jones of Paragould; a step-brother Jermiah Jones of Paragould; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by father.

Graveside services will be Monday, October 12th, 4:00 p.m. at Union Grove Cemetery with James Strait officiating.

Pallbearers will include Mike Evans, Ken Evans, Charlie Turner, Kevin Turner, Little Jim Turner, and Josh Jones. Honorary pallbearers will include Jim Turner, Steve Jones, Andy Jones, Tim Jones and Moe Wheeler

Wanda Glenn Locke
 


Wanda G. Locke, of Kirkland, WA., was called home to the Lord October 9, 2009. Wanda was born to Effie and William Houston , July 18, 1924 in Marmaduke, AR. After high school, she was a teacher for the Greene County School District in Marmaduke. Her only son Bobby Lynn was born there in 1943. She and her husband Floyd Locke moved to Crossett, AR., where they lived most of their adult life, and Wanda continued her 36 years of teaching.
After the death of her husband, Wanda moved to Coeur D'Alene, ID., to be with her son Bobby Lynn Locke. When Bobby passed away in 2007, Wanda moved to Kirkland, to be near her grandchildren.

Lois Smith, 65, of Marmaduke passed away October 10, 2009 at her residence.

She was born March 17, 1944, in Hornersville, MO., to Virgil Long and Constance (Matlock) Gilppin.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Smith; her father, Virgil Long; two brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by her mother, Constance Gilppin of Holcomb; one son, Marvin and Joanna Mills of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; two stepsons, Dewayne and Joyce Smith of Paragould and Kevin Smith of Indiana; one daughter, Wanda and Nick Ethridge of Conway; eight grandchildren, Jeremy and Justin Ledbetter, Conner Henson, Daniel Smith, Dennis Mills, Charlie Mills, Shane Smith, Amber Smith; five great-grandchildren; two brothers; nine sisters; and a host of other family members and friends.

Memorial services will begin at noon today at the Assembly of God Church in Holcomb, MO.

Mary Lee Hobbs, 86, was born February 8, 1923 in Marmaduke and passed away October 10, 2009 in Paragould. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church and retired from Emerson Electric.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Wanda and David Clayton Paragould, Judy and the late Arthur Kanneman, Paragould, Gerald and Brenda Hobbs, Lafe, Betty Bullinger, Paragould, Diann Moran Dallas, TX., Beverly and Mike McKinney, Lafe, Patricia and Don Rodgers Jordan, AR., Richard and Tammy Hobbs Boise, ID., Jerry and Leslie Hobbs, Paragould, Ronald and Kim Hobbs Paragould, one brother, Walter Sullivan of Missouri, 28 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Newton and Mandy Alice Sullivan; her husband, Robert Melton Hobbs; two daughters, Rayanna Rowland and Alice Wheeler, and one sister, Minnie Wadley.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 13th, 1:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Father Mike Sinkler officiating. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening 6:00 until 9:00 at the funeral home.

Louise Elizabeth Schmuecker, 89, of Paragould, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009, at NEA Baptist Hospital.
Born on July 29, 1920, in Paragould, to Roman C. and Estella Schmuecker, she was a retired RNA and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Edward Schmuecker, Roman Eugene “Bud” Schuemecker, Joseph Schmuecker; and two sisters, Margaret Rath and Frances Prince.

Survivors include one brother, Daniel “Pete” Schmuecker of Paragould; two sisters, Dorothy Holmes of Lansing, Michigan, Virginia Larson of Paragould; and by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 14th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Mike Sinkler officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould.

Sharon Frances Mayfield, 66, of Paragould passed away October 10, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jerome Buydaert and one daughter Mary Kay Vinson Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Mayfield; her mother, Helene Buydaert of Gross Point, Mich.; three daughters, Sandra Crawford and her husband Younely, Misty Mayfield all of Paragould and Darlisa Vinson of Ravenden, AR.; five grandchildren, Ashley (Box) Moon, Kimberly Vinson, L’Oreal Hamlett, Brianna Smith and Ashlyn Crawford and one great-grandson Traeson Moon.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 at Phillip’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 14th, 10:00 a.m. in Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Jimmy Parish officiating. Burial will follow at Harvey’s Chapel Cemetery.

Opal Shipman Mangrum, 97, passed away Sunday October 11, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, Paragould.
A long-time resident of Greene County, Mrs. Mangrum spent her adult life working on the farm with her husband, Gene Mangrum who passed in 1983.

She was born June 24, 1912 in Missouri to the late Dicie Gipson Shipman & Jacob Monroe Shipman. She was preceded in death by brothers, Bert Gipson, Freeman Gipson, Richard Gipson, Melvin Gipson, Clinton Gipson, Luther Shipman, Allen Shipman); sisters, Nora Shipman Creager, Viola Shipman Gramling and her daughter-in-law Frances Mangrum.

Mrs. Mangrum was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her sons, Bill (& Yevonne) Mangrum, Jim (& Genieve) Mangrum, Larry (& June) Mangrum and Glen Mangrum; daughters: Rita (& Larry Adams) and Patsy (& Jim Hammon). She is also survived by her sister, Marlue Noles; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday, October 14th at 3:30 pm, with Rev. Sam Stewart and Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Walcott Arkansas.

Charles “Donnie” Martin, 62, of Paragould passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at his home.

Born August 22, 1947 in Paragould, he was a former employee of Frolic Footwear and retired from Flintrol in Jonesboro. Donnie was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Martin of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cassandra “Sam” and Terry Wayne Menz of Paragould and Dawn Rena and Alan Engel of Ravenden. He is also survived by two brothers, Alvin Taylor and David Martin, both of Paragould; one sister, Diane Drope of Madisonville, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Alyssa Menz and Abby Menz of Paragould; two grandsons, Dustin Engel and Jerrod Engel of Ravenden; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Martin; his “Dad,” Bennie Taylor; and his mother, Geraldine Taylor.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 17th, 1:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Jerry Lee Baldridge Sr.



Jerry Lee Baldridge Sr., 70, of Denham Springs, LA., passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Lake Norfork. He was a former resident of Vicksburg, MS., and Hot Springs, AR.

He was born May 25, 1939, in Paragould to Cloyce Leon and Virginia Cook Baldridge.

Jerry was a graduate of Paragould High School class of 1957. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and Order of the Arrow and the Elks Club. He retired from The Kroger Company after a career spanning more than 45 years as store manager and auditor. In recent years he enjoyed volunteering at CelticFest Mississippi in Jackson, Miss.

As a cancer survivor, Jerry lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment caring for the family that he dearly loved and was so very proud of.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Michael Baldridge; and a daughter, Candace Forman.

Survivors include his wife, Angeline Baldridge of Denham Springs, LA.; two sons, Jerry Baldridge Jr. of Stuttgart, and Terry Baldridge and wife, Leila, of Vicksburg, MS.; two daughters, Kimberly Forman of Baton Rouge, LA., and Monica Hodges of Denham Springs; three grandchildren, Keegan Baldridge of Vicksburg, Kaitlyn Hodges of Denham Springs and Teddy Burchfield and wife, Destiny; and great-grandson, Carter Burchfield, all of Denham Springs. He is also survived by his father and mother in law, Brant and Gwen Barnett of Ferriday, LA.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Linda Gillmore, 68, of Marmaduke passed away October 14, 2009, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Rector.

She was born April 13, 1941, to the late Earner “Bud” and Verdie (Smart) Kent in Greene County. Linda worked as a cook at Couches Barbeque for 18 years, was a wonderful homemaker and was a member of the Lafe Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dale Clements; two brothers, Marvin and Dennis Kent; and three sisters, Janice Smith, Melba Kent and Edna Baledge.

Linda is survived by her husband of 36 years, Jerry Gillmore; two daughters, Tracy Clements of Brookland, Melissa Boode of Lynn; one brother, Adren Kent of Paragould, along with a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 16th, at the Irby Funeral Home in Marmaduke with Brother Kim Bridges officiating. Interment will be at Harvey’s Chapel in Marmaduke. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Harvey Norman Beasley Sr., 76, of Paragould passed away October 15, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1933 to Thomas and Zelma Beasley. He loved to spend time with his daughters, ride horses and hunt.

Mrs. Howe was born October 19, 1959, in Wynne, AR. She was a homemaker and a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Tim Howe of the home; her mother, Hilda Wood Clements of Cherry Valley; one son, Grant Howe; and one daughter, Katie Howe, both of the home. She is also survived by one brother, Forrest Michael Wood; and one sister, Connie Cline, both of Cherry Valley; several nieces, nephews, friends and family at Crowley’s Ridge Academy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur Cecil Wood.

Thelma was preceded in death by her devoted husband, George Pickney, son Larry, parents, sister, Barbara Stevens and brother, Charlie Howard.

Elbert Wayne Priest, 66, of Delaplaine passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center, Jonesboro.

Born January 27, 1943, at Batesville, AR., he was a Navy veteran of Vietnam, a retired grocer and of the Baptist faith.

Cecelia Merideth, 52, of Knobel passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at her son’s home in Paragould.

Born on January 4, 1957, in Lafe, Mrs. Merideth was a nurse’s aide who enjoyed fishing. She was of the Church of Christ faith.

She was united in marriage August 21, 1999 to Richard Merideth. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2007.

Survivors include two sons, Denny (Candace Ray) Archer of Knobel and Chris (Shannon) Archer of Paragould; her mother, Lucille Archer of Knobel; one brother, Michael Archer of Paragould; six sisters, Lula Taylor of Pocahontas, Karen Arnold of Corning, Connie Stormes, Jackie Derby, Cathy Smith and Lavadna Farmer, all of Knobel; and two grandchildren, Meghan McCluskey and Hunter Archer, both of Paragould.

She was also preceded in death by her father, Everett Archer; brother, Billy Archer; and sister, Tywanna Hyde.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 23rd, 2:00 p.m. at Hosea Cemetery in Knobel with Reverenc Kelsey Vallance officiating. Burial will follow at Hosea Cemetery

Linda Diane Meeker, 58, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Belle Meade Healthcare in Paragould after a battle with cancer.

Born May 28, 1951, to the late Everett Crossen and Elsie Badgett, she was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended meetings in Paragould, a nurse’s aide and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Zappe and Terry Zappe; one daughter, Melissa Coloff; two brothers, Bob Crossen and John Crossen; and two sisters, Frances Looney and Denise Wilcut.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ronnie Crossen.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, U.S. 49 North, Paragould, with Ralph Blankenship officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the World Wide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Faith Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Tyler James Tritch

 

Tyler James “T.J.” Tritch, age 20, of Paragould, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, in Paragould. He was born May 28, 1989, in Paragould, and was an employee of Anchor Packaging in Marmaduke.
Preceding him in death were his maternal great grandmother, Gladys Shirley; his paternal grandfather, Ervin Tritch; and an aunt, Jennifer Stormes.

Survivors include his parents, James and Rachel Tritch of the home, and Lisa Tritch of Oak Grove; three siblings, Danielle and Zander Tritch of the home and Steven Tritch of Paragould. He is also survived by his grandparents, Danny and Linda Roberson, and Lola Mae Tritch; several aunts, uncles, cousins and by many friends and co-workers.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 26th, 10:00 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lyle Seffers, James Frances, Brian Foster, Kenneth Tritch, Lucas Tritch, and Caleb Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be James C. Tritch, Tyler Branscum, and Chance Tritch.

Candace Brooke Scott
 


Candace Brooke Scott, 18, of Jonesboro went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, October 22, 2009, the result of a car accident.

Candace was born January 29, 1991, in Jonesboro. She was a 2009 graduate of Southland High School in Cardwell. She was God’s angel in disguise, never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her parents, Jim and Grace Scott of Paragould, Sherry and Max Williams of Jonesboro; her grandparents, James and Jonell Scott of Rogersville, Mo., formally of Arbyrd, Mo.; brothers and sisters, Brandon and Amber Scott of Paragould, Lawrence Ryall, Jeni Hodges and Andrea Allen, all of Texas; nieces and nephews, Cade and Morgan Scott, Mallory and Leah McBroom and Preston and Garrett Carpenter; her fiancé, Matt Horner; and his parents, Miles and Sherry Horner, all of Cardwell.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 this evening at Phillip’s Funeral Home in Paragould. Funeral services will be Sunday, October 25th, 2:30 p.m. in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillip’s Funeral Home with Randy Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow at Dunklin Memorial Gardens in Kennett.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Scott, Matt Horner, Lawrence Ryall, William Bailey, Ryan Chilton and Santiago Vasquez. Honorary pallbearers are Jeremy and Jacob Williams.

Terry James Robinson, 55, of Mountain View passed away on October 22, 2009.

Born July 17, 1954, in Paragould to James Cecil and Norma Jean (Patton) Robinson, he is survived by his mother, Norma Jean Robinson of the home; brother, Ramie Robinson of Paragould; and sister, Rene English of McKinney, Texas.

W. L. Myers

 


W.L. “Bud” Myers, 82, of Lorado, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center, Jonesboro.

Born March 8, 1927, in Stanford, he was a retired truck driver for Emerson Electric, attended the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and was a well-known gardener in Lorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hon and Estelle Myers, and one sister, Inetha Chitwood.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Myers of Lorado; five sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Sarah Ernst of Cotter, Mike Ernst, Steve and Nan Ernst, all of Reston, Va., Don and Patti Ernst of Little Rock and Rick Myers of Red Bluff, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Carlos Eason of Lorado; four sisters, Meredith Weston of Lorado, Jane Scott of Finch and Kitty Swindle and Jean Williams, both of Paragould; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 26th, 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Marion Gramling and Jerry Reed officiating. Burial will be in Lorado Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday evening, 6:00 until 9:00 at the funeral home.

Mary Lura McConnaughey, 80, of Paragould, passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at her residence.
She was born August 30, 1929, in Center Hill to Charles and Mary Lee Sims. Mrs. McConnaughey was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Russell McConnaughey of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Brenda McConnaughey of Paragould; four grandchildren, Aaron Hathcock, Chris McConnaughey, Staci Graber and Amanda Dobbins; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Sunday, October 25th, 2:00 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould with Jim Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Center Hill Cemetery.

Billy Joe Cook
 


Billy Joe Cook, 75, of Jonesboro, passed away Saturday October 24, 2009, at his home. He was born in Bono on September 21, 1934, to the late Joe and Delphia Barnes Cook. Mr. Cook was a truck driver for Swift Ice Cream and a wrecker driver. He was of the Church of Christ belief and loved working on cars, gardening and playing with his grandchildren.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Edna Dement Cook of the home; three sons, Gary Cook, Tommy Cook and Dale Cook all of Jonesboro; a daughter, Carolyn Foster of Harrisburg; two brothers; Ralph Cook and Jerry Cook; two sisters, Ruthie Hancock and Susie Minton; six grandchildren, Angela Meridith, Mallory Galyean, Tyler Cook, Joshua Cook, Jordan Cook and Stephen Cook; and a great grandson, Alexander Galyean.

He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and a daughter, Barbara Meridith.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 26th, at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with Kenneth Gossett officiating. Burial will follow at Lorado Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include his sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Foster, Eddie Meridith and Robert Cook.

Marilyn Katina Chamberlain, 66 of Paragould passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center., Marilyn was born March 6, 1943, she was retired from Paragould Nursing Center and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her parents Alonzo and Marie Walker Russell and 4 siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Jacob H. Chamberlain of the home; sons, Leonard, Jacob and Tommy Chamberlain all of Paragould; daughter, Carmella Rodgers of Paragould; brothers, Sam, Robert, Allen, Carl Gene, Jim and Steve Russell; sisters, Linda Fisher and Fay Rose, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday, October 26th, 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Ralph and Tim Blankenship officiating.
Visitation will be prior to services Monday, at the Heath Funeral Home, 12:00 until 1:30 p.m.

Wilma Lee Pigue
 


Wilma Lee Pigue 87, of Huntsville, AL., passed away October 24, 2009.
Mrs. Pigue was born in Greene County, AR. She lived her early life in Paragould before moving to Little Rock, residing there for more than forty years. She moved to Huntsville, in 2007.

She is survived by her son Colonel (Retired) Larry Pigue and his wife Janice (Crook) Pigue and granddaughter, Tammy Brannen, all of Huntsville, AL, granddaughter, Cathey Botwright and three great grandchildren, Jacqueline Burford, Sarah Burford and Austin Botwright of Virginia Beach, VA.
Her husband, Dewey Pigue Jr., parents JB and Viola McDonald, great grand daughter, Melissa Brannen, three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home, 2307 West Kingshighway, Paragould, Arkansas 72451. The viewing will be at 11:00 on Saturday October 31, 2009 followed by the funeral service at 1:30 pm. The funeral service will be followed by burial at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Highway 135.

Charles Moskop
 


Mr. Charles Moskop 71, of Walnut Ridge passed away Monday October 26, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro. Mr. Moskop was born January 10, 1934 in Harrisburg, AR to the late Bert and Hattie Strong Moskop. He worked for many years at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, J.B. Moskop. Survivor’s include, two sisters and brothers-in-law; Opal & Glenn Johnson of Millington, TN., and Virginia & James Sheppard of Bono. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening October 28th, 6:00 until 8:00 at Higginbotham Funeral Service in Walnut Ridge. Funeral services will be held Thursday October 29th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Higginbotham Funeral Chapel. Reverend Marion Gramblim will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery at Walcott, AR.

Cody Wayne Shopher, 22 of Paragould passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at UAMS in Little Rock. Cody was a cook at Chili’s, Fenders and Brick Oven Pizza and was a member of the Southside Community Church.
Cody was born September 15, 1987 to the family of Marlon W. and Diane Shopher.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Diane and Barry Self of Paragould; father Marlon Wayne Shopher of Bradford, AR; brothers, Joshua Marlon Shopher of Paragould and Blake Alan Self of Brookland; sister, Emily Ann Shopher of Paragould; Maternal grandparents, Woodrow Wilson and Lodema Jordan of Paragould; Paternal grandparents, Garland and Patricia Shopher of Bradford, AR and step grandparents, Larry and Joy Self of Jonesboro, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ray Sisco

 

Ray Sisco, 78, of Warm Spring, AR., passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009. He was retired from Monroe Auto Equipment and was a member of the Beech Grove Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Sisco of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kay Sisco and Paul and Karon Sisco, all of Gainesville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Logan Dodd of Paragould, Genna and Alton Tounsand of Jonesboro. He is also survived by one sister, Louise; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Cora Sisco; one brother, Luther Sisco; and one granddaughter, Tracie Dodd.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 30th, 1:30 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, Paragould, with J. E. McAnally officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Betty Carolyn Cole, 59, of Paragould passed away October 27, 2009 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Cole, two son’s Jerry Cole JR, Roger Cole, and her parents John & Zilphia Sweat, three sisters, Ann Wilkins, Lois Cole and Kay Cole, all of Portageville MO.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty Jean Rock, one son, Christopher Cole both of Paragould, two sister’s, Jewel Jones and Jean Durbin of Portageville, MO., four grandchildren, and one great-grandson, Jayden Rock Clark. Many nieces and nephews, and a host of good friends, including her friend Freda Lawson of Paragould.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 31st, at Phillips Funeral Home 11:00 a.m. until noon. Graveside services will follow in Warren’s Chapel Cemetery, Walcott, AR., 1:00 p.m.

Seveda Hetler Holt
 


Mrs. Seveda Hetler Holt, 87, of Leachville, AR., passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at her home.

Born at Marmaduke, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Zonie Frue Roberts and had been a Leachville resident for most of her life.

She was a retired cook for the Leachville Senior Citizens Center and a member of Leachville Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Hetler and Floyd Holt, and a granddaughter, Darla Hetler.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Hetler and Rodney Dale Hetler, both of Leachville; four daughters, Shirley Ray of Dyersburg, Tenn., Patricia Lois Maynard and Paulette Stewart, both of Leachville, and Sandra Kay Busby of Jonesboro; one brother, Jack Roberts of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and one sister, Juanita Murphree of Leachville. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at Howard Funeral Service Chapel at Leachville with the Rev. Billy Hattenhauer officiating. Burial will follow in Gainesville Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors Sunday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

Ernst Max Steyer
 


Ernst Max Steyer, 81 of Lafe passed away Thursday, October 29, 2009 at his residence. Born July 1, 1928, Ernst was a factory worker having worked at Peerless, Darling and Tool Specialty. He was probably best known for being a greeter at Wal-Mart. Ernst was a faithful member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and was in the Army Air Corp, post WW-II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry August and Marie Johanna Braun Steyer; brothers, Martin, Carl and Ted Steyer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Steyer of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and James Collins of Knobel, JoAnn and Tim Reed and Heidi and Chris Griffin both of Jonesboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Max and Rhonda Steyer of Paragould, Carl Steyer of Lafe, Martin and Tammy Steyer of Crocker, MO; brother, Rev. Edward Steyer of Paragould; sister, Elizabeth Doering of Valpariso, IN; 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 2nd, 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Curt Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Max, Carl and Martin Steyer, Chris Griffin, Tim Reed and James Collins. The family has requested that memorials be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Visitation will be Sunday evening 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.

James Michael “Mike” Croft, 61 of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 at the St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Mr. Croft was born August 26, 1948 in Paragould.
Survivors include; two sisters; Marsha Croft of Paragould, Sherry Reece of Jonesboro, two nieces and three nephews.

Retired Army SFC Kenneth J. Gatlin long time commander of V.F.W. Post 2242, left this earth October 30, 2009, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 20 days.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Alice Norton; father, Charlie Gatlin; sister, Sandy Magel; brother, Charles Gatlin; grandson, Timothy Hilburn and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Everett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Deronda Gatlin; three sons, Randy Gatlin and his wife, Lisa, Russell Gatlin and his wife, Sharon and Robert Gatlin all of Paragould; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Jimmy Simpson of Tennessee and Donna and Tom Hilburn of Paragould; two brothers, Bill Gatlin, Darrell Gatlin and his wife Martha all of Paragould; a step-brother, Clayburn Gatlin of Tennessee; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Charles Sharpe, Ollie and Hoss Wallace all of Paragould and Selma and Pokey Reno of Missouri; twelve grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Wilma Howard; several nieces and nephews; his brothers and sisters of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2242 and a host of family and friends.
