John R. “Tiny” Maxwell



John R. “Tiny” Maxwell, son of the late Ivory Maxwell and Marka Elizabeth Park Maxwell, was born on Sept. 30, 1939, in Paragould, and departed this life on Sept. 2, 2006, in Kennett, Mo.

Mr. Maxwell married Betty Bishop.

He served in the United States Air Force and was an elementary school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Maxwell of Kennett; one son, Scott Maxwell and his wife Debbie of Paragould; one daughter, Kerry Parker and her husband Ron of Kennett; five grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Parker, Ryan, Whitney and Landon Maxwell; and one brother, Park Maxwell and his wife Wanda of Paragould.

Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by one brother, Cyrus Maxwell.

Services are Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the McDaniel Funeral HOme in Kennett with Reverend Ed Jansson and Father Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be in Cardwell Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Roger Wheeler, Jr., John Gamble, Mike Blakenship, Chris Rollins, Clay Bullard, and Kerry Bickerstaff. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Dollins, Jim Bullard, Don Lynn, Dr. John McMullin, Ron Roberts, Sonny Burns, Clarence Killion and David Joe Hicklin.

Marcella Toombs



Marcella Toombs, 82, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City.

She was born on July 7, 1924 in Greene County. Mrs. Toombs was a homemaker and a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Toombs Sr. of Bono and Tommy Toombs of Jonesboro; one daughter, Charlotte Toombs of Little Rock; one brother, Cleatus Hoyer of Termo, Calif.; one sister, Violet Baldwin of Paragould; three grandchildren, Jerry Toombs Jr. of Paragould, Dennie Petronio of Montreal, Tommy Toombs Jr. of Jonesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Jake Toombs of Paragould and Cade Petronio of Montreal.

Mrs. Toombs was preceded in death by her husband, Norman W. "Perry" Toombs; and her parents, Albert and Cleo Hoyer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Michael Sutton and Stephen Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow in Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Nikki Gerald Davis



Nikki Gerald Davis, 47, of Paragould, died Monday, September 4, 2006, at Methodist Hospital Central, Memphis. Born February 21, 1959, in Paragould, Mr. Davis was a 1977 graduate of Greene County Tech, an Army veteran, and an employee of Tom Davis Auto Sales. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lafe.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley Davis of Madeira, Florida; one brother, Karry Davis; two nephews, Kyle and Cody Davis; and his companion, Darlene Parks, all of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tom Davis and by a son, Eric Nicholas Davis.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-9:00, at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m., Thursday.
Jeff Bishop, Anthony Roswell, Keith Roswell, Tim Roswell, Phillip Russell, Scott Gramling, and Steve Hyde will serve as pallbearers.

Albert Eldridge Lance



Albert Eldridge Lance, 95, of Delaplaine, AR., died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006.

He served with the Army at Normandy Beach in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Heral Lance; three sons, Maurice Dean Lance of Oklahoma City, Eugene Lance of O'Kean and Lanny Lance and wife, Paulette, of O'Kean; daughter, Darlene Shoe and husband, Ronnie, of O'Kean; grandchildren, Steven and Mary Lance of San Jose, Calif., Kera and Jonathan Crafton of Paragould, Rob Lance of Pocahontas, Benji Shoe and Amber Lance of O'Kean; and great-grandchildren, Bailey Shoe and Sable Crafton of Paragould and Kevin and Julie Lance of San Jose.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with Melvin Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jon Snow, Tim Snow, Tony Hudson, Greg Lance, Billy Hibbard and Ronnie Roberts.

Tom A. Denton



Tom A. Denton, 96, of Paragould, died Tuesday, September 5, 2006, at his residence.

 
Born August 26, 1910, in Portland, Ashley County, Arkansas, Mr. Denton was a retired accountant for Ashley, Drew and Northwestern Railroad. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

 
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Bland and husband, Herb, of Paragould, Jo Jenkins and Staton Breidenthal of North Little Rock; five grandchildren, Sara and Patrick Burnett, Amy and Dow Brantley, Jennifer and Ed Tuorinsky, Jamie and Patrick Donovan, Jason and Kristen Bland. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Anna Margaret Burnett, Sara Kate Burnett, Rebecca Grace Burnett, Caroline Frances Brantley, and Christopher Andrew Donovan.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Fay Denton; his parents, George and Narcissus Denton; two brothers, Monroe Denton and Robert Denton; and by three sisters, Lucille Molpus, Mamie Granthum, and Lelia Crass.


Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 8th, at Linwood Cemetery, with Joe Marsden officiating. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 10:50 A.M., Friday.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00-10:45 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home.
Jason Bland, Patrick Burnett, Dow Brantley, and Jake Bland will serve as pallbearers.

Ellen Dale Foster Belk



Ellen Dale Foster Belk, 97, of Paragould died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Floyd Foster; second husband, Clinton Belk; four children; her parents; three brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include one son, Alvin Foster of Light; two daughters, Weldon Bryant of Black Rock and Diann Wall of Paragould; one stepson, Junior Belk of Paragould; two stepdaughters, Linda Lashley of Paragould and Doris Scott of Titusville, Fla; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery at Walcott.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Zion Cemetery fund.

Willis Jackson Davis



Willis Jackson Davis, 84, of Monette, died September 5, 2006, at St. Bernards Medical Center. Mr. Davis was born September 14, 1921.

Graveside service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 9, at the Greene County Memorial Garden in Paragould. With Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson and Rachel Davis; four brothers, William Davis, Arvil Davis, Marion Davis and Johnny Davis.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law; Owen and Darlene Davis of San Miquell, CA., daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Phil Dussia of Plainwell, Michigan; daughter, Geneva Brower of Iownia, Michigan and sister, Pauline Leiss.

Virginia Walker



Virginia Earline Walden Walker, 85, of Paragould died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Senath Nursing Center, Senath, Mo.

Born Feb. 9, 1921, in Paragould, she was a longtime member of First Baptist Church.

After graduating from high school, Mrs. Walker worked for Southwestern Bell in Forrest City, Paragould, Jonesboro and Little Rock. She retired from Bell South in New Orleans. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister and aunt who loved her family.

Survivors include her sister, Carolyn Gwinup of Paragould; a nephew, David Gwinup of Atlanta; two nieces, Deanna Gwinup of Birmingham, Ala., and Donna E. Martin of Paragould. She is also survived by a great-niece, Becca Martin of Paragould, and a great-nephew, Michael Reagan of Spokane, Wash.

He was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Walker; her parents, Jess and Jessie Walden; one sister, Blonnie Evelyn Walden; and a brother, Darrell Walden.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould. No visitation is scheduled.

Hunner Alan Weaver



Hunner Alan Weaver died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Charlice Weaver, and great-grandfather, Wendell Weatherspoon.

Survivors include his parents, Thomas and Doralee Weaver of Paragould; grandfathers, Thomas Weaver of Arbyrd, Mo., and Oather Conway of Peach Orchard; grandparents, Rickey and Diane Fielder of Brookland and Dora and Lawrence Gattis of Mountain View.

Visitation will be today from 12-1 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Paragould. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway.

John Keith Poe



John Keith Poe, 73, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, September 10, 2006, at his residence. Born May 4, 1933, in Pocahontas, Mr. Poe retired from the U.S. Navy after twenty-four years of service. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

 
Survivors include one sister, Wanda Burton of Hurst, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and one brother.

 
A military service will be conducted graveside, 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 14th, at Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The procession will leave Mitchell Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m., Thursday. No visitation is scheduled.

Wava Lou Diggs


Wava Lou Diggs, 82, of Paragould, died Monday, September 11, 2006, at Greene Acres Nursing Home. Mrs. Diggs was born November 22, 1923, in Greene County, and was a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.


Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Franklin and Pam Diggs; a daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Jim Mugford; and one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Faye and Ira Perdue, all of Paragould. She is also survived by three grandsons and their wives, Brad and Sarah McPherson of Memphis, Tennessee, Todd and Callie McPherson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Andy and Catherine McPherson of Farmville, Virginia; one granddaughter, Shae Diggs of Paragould; two great grandsons, Brayden and Baylor McPherson of Oklahoma City; and by two great granddaughters, Katie and Avery McPherson of Memphis.

 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Diggs; her parents, Elvis and Lois Gilbert; one infant son, Kenny Don Diggs; two sisters, Jesteen Gilbert and Mae Ruth Bridges; and by one son-in-law, Bob McPherson.

 
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 13th, at Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church, with Michael Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.
Frank Wicker, Ken Edwards, Jerry Jernigan, Terry Horton, Charles Hesselbein, and Henry Payne will serve as pallbearers.

Barbara Gail Mitchell



Barbara Gail Mitchell, age 46, of Bono, Arkansas died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at her home.

Born May 4, 1960, in Paragould, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Manuel. She was an employee of the Catfish Cafe in Jonesboro and was of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Victoria Mitchell; one grandson, Caleb Garner; her stepfather, Robert Kankelfitz; one sister, Sue Thrasher; and one brother, Johnny Manuel.

Survivors include one son, Kevin Mitchell of Jonesboro; three daughters, Kim Mitchell of Brookland, Tracy Mitchell of Cave City and Pam Mitchell of Jonesboro; her mother, Gracie Kankelfitz of Cave City; six brothers; three sisters; 13 grandchildren; 86 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Paragould with the Rev. Wayne Clements officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockhill Cemetery near Jonesboro.

The family will receive visitors this evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Paragould.

Christa Marie Ketcherside



Christa Marie Ketcherside was born Sept. 12, 2006, and died the same day at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hosea Cemetery at Knobel with the Rev. Kelsey Vallance officiating.

Survivors are her parents, Bryan and Sunshine Ketcherside of Paragould; grandmother, Mary Runyon of Knobel; grandfather, Kevin Dewayne Ketcherside of Fayetteville; grandmother, Genuia Wylie of Tulsa, Okla.; great-grandparents, Charles and Brenda Runyon of Marshall, Texas; and great-grandfather, Larry Ketcherside of Paragould.

Junior Franklin Shearer

 

Junior Franklin Shearer, 79, of Marmaduke died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at his residence.

He was born on June 21, 1927 at Flint, Mich., the son of the late Dolphe and Audie Myrick Shearer.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Allison in June 1947. She preceded him in death Oct. 14, 2002.

Mr. Shearer was a veteran of World War II, where he received several medals. He was a retired machinist with Carter Carburetor Co. in St. Louis.

Survivors include one son, Danny Shearer and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Sauget, Ill; one daughter, Belinda Forrester and son-in-law Don of Marmaduke; grandsons, Jeff Forrester and wife Missy, Vance Shearer and wife Missy, Evan Shearer and wife Ginger, Sgt. Jerry Strobel and wife Kathy and Joe Strobel and Danielle; granddaughters, Barbara Mullins and Julie Forrester; 10 great-granddaughters; and 10 great-grandsons. Many other relatives and friends will mourn his passing.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. in the home of his daughter and son-in-law at 550 Greene 414 Road in Marmaduke.

Mr. Shearer was cremated. Arrangements were under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Services in Walnut Ridge.

Donnah Virginia Cannady



Donnah Virginia Cannady, 88, of Paragould, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, at Greene Acres Nursing Home where she had been a resident for several years. She was born May 12, 1918, in Paragould, and was a 1938 graduate of Paragould High School.


She married Charles Oliver Cannady and moved to California. She retired from Capwell’s Department Store in 1978 and moved back to Paragould in 1993. Mrs. Cannady was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Nella Robinson; her sisters, Goldah Wilkerson and Bernadine Robinson; and by a brother, Alfred Robinson.

 
Survivors include two daughters, Drena Embree of Boise, Idaho, Barbara Cunningham of Belen, New Mexico; four grandchildren, Michael Embree of Utah, Colleen Embree of Idaho, Kris Cunningham and her husband Vince Druktenis of Kansas, and Scott Cunningham of New Mexico. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Duncan Embree, Madison Lindley, Mackenzie Lindley, Ethan Embree, Travis Embree, Jacob Cunningham, Shelby Druktenis, and Amanda Cunningham; niece, Betty Edwards and husband, Jerry; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Robinson; a cousin, Laura Bacon; and by several other cousins.

 
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Dennis Scudder officiating, burial will follow in the Brown’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon Monday until service time at Mitchell Funeral Home, Paragould.

Catherine Loraine Loyd



Catherine Loraine Loyd, 64, of Paragould died Sept. 15, 2006, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center.

She was a homemaker and waitress, and of Baptist belief.

She is survived by her husband, William Loyd; daughters, Lisa Gatlin and Juanita Utley, both of Hot Springs, Karen Loyd of Joplin, Mo., and Connie Loyd of Clinton, Mo.; sons, William Franklin Loyd Jr. of Clinton, Robert Lee Loyd of Hot Springs and Mark Allen Loyd of Paragould; two brothers; one sister; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Heath Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Ken Roden officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery at Paragould.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Heath Funeral Home.

James Allen Spencer



James “Jim” Allen Spencer, 66, of Paragould, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Mr. Spencer was born on October 23, 1939 in Blytheville, Arkansas and married Shirley Mae Walker on June 11, 1958. He was a retired electrician and a member of the IBEW Local 1516 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mr. Spencer was a Mason, 32nd Degree Shriner and a Scottish Rite and a Methodist.

 
Survivors include: his wife: Shirl Spencer of the home, three daughters and son-in-laws: Lesea and Bobby Wilson, Delores and Alan Ryan, Shirleen and Gene Rollings, one brother: Charles Spencer, two sisters: Mary Sue Thompson, Virginia Inez Brown all of Paragould, five grandsons: Mitch Barrow, Mike Barrow, Tyler Rollings, Tim Rollings, Spencer Ryan, three great grandchildren: Bryce, Derrian and Micah Barrow, many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by: his parents: Mary Emily Spencer and Joseph Lee Spencer, Sr., three brothers: Joseph Lee Spencer, Jr., Jack Wesley Spencer and Bob Spencer.

 
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Paragould with Shayne Baker officiating, burial will follow in the Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the Mitchell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will include: Joey Morgan, Mike Barrow, Bobby Wilson, Gene Rollings, Tim Rollings and Tyler Rollings. Honorary pallbearers will be Mitch Barrow, Ray Nickels and Bob Smith.

Tammy Marie Honeycutt



Tammy Marie Honeycutt, 31, of Paragould, died Sunday September 17, 2006,in Paragould.

 
She was born November, 11, 1974, in McCrory, Arkansas, and was a lifetime resident of Paragould, and was the daughter of Joe Honeycutt and Wilma Chadwick.  She was a homemaker and of the Church of God belief.


Survivors also include her son, Shane A. Honeycutt of Paragould.  One Daughter, Torrey Ann Dell, of New York.  One Brother, Joe Bills, of Paragould.  Three Sisters, Jodie Nance, of Paragould. Trina Honeycutt, of Paragould. Tori Jo Kaffka, of Jonesboro.

 
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 21, at the Church of God Church in Jonesboro, with the Pastor Larry Gandy and Rev. Jim Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Log Cemetery, with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of the arrangements.

 
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 P.M. Wednesday September 20, at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Mildred Chrismon Powers



Mildred Chrismon Powers, 71, of Jonesboro died Sunday, September 17, 2006. .

Mildred J. Noah was born in Memphis on April 27, 1935, to Thomas and Polly Noah.

She worked for and retired from the U.S. Postal Service, with her civil service ending in Jonesboro.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Doyle Powers of Paragould; four children, Sherry (Mickey) Monsey of Wortham, Texas, Wanda (Dennis) Dunham of Elgin, Minn., Larry (Lori) Chrismon of Grant, Ala., and Guy (Karen) Chrismon of North Branch, Minn.; three stepsons, Nick, Calvin and Jay Powers, all of Jonesboro; 16 grandchildren; six great grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and two sisters, Flora Owen of Brighton, Tenn., and Ruth Warrick of Seguine, Texas.

Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry J. Chrismon Sr.; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro with Jody McFadden and her grandson, Caleb Dunham of Minnesota, officiating. Burial will be at Pine Knot Cemetery.

Visitation will be fom 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be David Chrismon, Guy Chrismon, Larry Chrismon, Dennis Dunham, Jay Powers and Jeremy Whitely.

Gene Weyer



Gene Weyer, 75, formerly of Paragould, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, in Pocahontas of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Paragould and was a 1948 graduate of Greene County Tech.

He was called to duty in 1950 to the Korean War and served his tour of duty in the 1st Marine Division, 7th Battalion.

Gene was a retired self-employed farmer and loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Paragould.

His parents, Frank and Josephene Wenning Weyer, preceded him in death along with two brothers, Vincent and Frank Weyer, and a sister, Gertrude Kueter.

Gene Weyer and Margaret Weyer are the parents of four children -- one son, Stephen Weyer of Belleville, Texas; daughters, Eva Baltz of Pocahontas, Mary Powis of Plano, Texas, and Sarah Becker of Tulsa, Okla.

He is also survived by one sister, Ann Meier of Pocahontas; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Christen, Nathan and Maria Baltz, Meagan and Thad Becker; Meredith and Michael Weyer, and Oba Powis.

Coetta Vivian Garmroth



Coetta Vivian Garmroth, 52, of Paragould, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include one son, Josh Garmroth of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law, Kellee and Joel Devers of Mio, Mich.; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Mary Cobb of Paragould; one grandson, Bryson Devers; one nephew, Kasey Cobb; and one niece, Keena Smith and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Jean Cobb.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Tim Williams, Adam Shelton, Bruce Batys, Bill Winn and Shawn Palskie. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery.

Liddie Stormes


Liddie Stormes, 75, of Paragould, formerly of Knobel, died Sept. 17, 2006. She was a homemaker and a member of the Knobel Pentecostal Church.

She was united in marriage to Jack Stormes. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 2005.

Survivors include three sons, Danny Stormes of Walnut Ridge, Ed Stormes of Paragould, and Roger Stormes of Stonewall; two daughters, Carol Venson of Pocahontas, and Karen Arnold of Walnut Ridge; one sister, Wilma Clayton of Rockford, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Hess and Lilly Humphrey; four brothers, Edward, Earl Nathan, Tom and Delmar Humphrey; and two grandsons, Rodney Stormes and Craig Stormes.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the Ermert Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in the Hosea Cemetery in Knobel.

Heather Jane Bennett



Heather Jane Bennett, 23, of Rector, formerly of Marmaduke, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 in Memphis.


She was born March 5, 1983, in Jonesboro and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marmaduke.


Survivors include her parents, Gene and Brenda Bennett of Marmaduke; one brother, Bryan Bennett of Paragould; four sisters, Kimberly Long of Nashville, Lori James of Searcy, Mindy Wolfenbarger of Rector and Tammy Bennett of Marmaduke, and grandparents, Floyd and Mary Bennett.


Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the First Baptist Church in Marmaduke with Rev. Kim Bridges officiating. Burial was in Hartsoe Cemetery.


Active pallbearers were Doyne Shaw, Nathan Stone, Jerry Don McIntosh, Stephen Wolfenbarger, Eddie Bennett, Rodney Hampton, Nick Stone and David Hampton.

Obie Gene Lovelace



Obie Gene Lovelace, 80, of McCarley, Miss., formerly of Greenwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 15, 1926, at Bay, the son of Obe and Velma Thompson Lovelace who preceded him death along with his sister, Tina McDaniel.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer and worked at a cotton gin. He was of Methodist belief.

Survivors include a daughter, Georganna Neill of Ridgeland, Miss.; three sons, Mark H. Lovelace of Savage, Minn., Tommy Lovelace of Ridgeland and Scott Lovelace of McCarley; three brothers, Tom Lovelace of Jonesboro, Robert Walden of Jonesboro and Kenneth Walden of Layton, Utah; one sister, Wanda Atwood of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday in Heath Colonial Chapel at Paragould, with the Rev. Raymond Atwood officiating. Burial will follow in Finch Cemetery, Paragould.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service in Heath Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Finch Cemetery Fund.

David A. Yeargain


Mr. David A. Yeargain, 69, of Morton, Ill., a former resident of Greene County, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Ill.

He was born Jan. 2, 1937, in Greene County, to Virgil "Pete" and Ora Faulkner Yeargain. He married Betty Houston on Sept. 1, 1956, in Greene County.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Yeargain of Morton; one son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Cyndi Yeargain of East Peoria, Ill.; one daughter and son-in-law, Daetta K. and Chuck Jones of Germantown Hills, Ill.; one granddaughter, Makenna D. Yeargain of East Peoria; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, MaDonna Smith of Bartonville, Ill., and Rhonda and Richard Barrow of Metamora, Ill.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John.

He worked for Nestle/Libby’s for 37 years, retiring in 1992 as Plant Supervisor.
Mr. Yeargain was a devoted and loving husband of 50 years, father, brother and grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He enjoyed the sport of basketball and was involved in drag racing with his son, where he was a member of the National Hot Rod Association. He also enjoyed woodworking.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morton, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, with Rev. Dr. Richard Shaw officiating.


Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 21 at Ludwig Mortuary in Morton, and will be held again from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.

Eva L. Marvel-Hardwick



Eva L. Marvel-Hardwick, 92, of Salina, Kan., died Sept. 21, 2006.

Mrs. Hardwick was born Jan. 25, 1914. in Greene County, Ark.

She was a cook for the Marked Tree Elementary School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Marvel, and her second husband, George Hardwick.

The memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Central Baptist Church, 9th St. and Liberty, in Marked Tree,. Internment will be in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Leanna Mae Pace

 

Leanna Mae Pace, 86, of Corning died Sept. 22, 2006, in Arkansas Methodist Medical Center at Paragould.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Pace, on April 11, 1995.

She is survived by one sister, Clara Melton, of Walnut Ridge and several nieces and nephews.

Doris Gale Crockett



Doris Gale Crockett, 61, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in her home at Paragould.

She was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church and was a hair stylist.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd Crockett; three daughters, Kim Baxter Sanders of Opp, Ala., Karen Bogard of Paragould, and Krystal Bolton of Arkadelphia; two sons, Danny Hays of Seattle and Bobby Ryan of Riverside, Calif.; and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-9 p.m. today in Heath Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Brown's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Royce Boling officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens at Paragould.

Robert E. Ellington

 

Robert E. Ellington, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at his home in Lafe. He was born April 14, 1927, the son of the late Asbon and Emma (McCary) Ellington in Clarke Township in Greene County. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rodney Ellington; daughter, Sherry Powell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman, Vearl and Zelma, Earl and LaVinie, and Henry Ellington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Yuel Cox, Jack Maynard, and Josephine Garner. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps and a member of Unity Baptist Church. He retired from Corn Products Company, in Pekin, Ill., after 30 years in 1982 and returned to Arkansas. He bowled at Paragould Recreation Center for seniors the last 14 years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jean Stephenson Ellington of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and Don Wendell of Pekin, Ill., Janice and Ron Harms of Mapleton, Ill., Edith and Joel King of Oxford, Pennsylvania, Barb and Steve Kappesser of Joppa, Md.; sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby and Mardie Ellington of Mc Queeney, Texas, Mark and Tricia Ellington of Paragould; son-in-law, Steve Powell of Mackinaw, Ill.; sister, Helen Earlene Maynard of Indiana; sister-in-law, Margie Ellington of Paragould; brother-in-law, James Garner of Paragould; 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Heath Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at the Heath Colonial Chapel, with Reverend Terry Songer officiating. Interment will follow at Woods Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jerry Stephenson, Bill Potter, Mike Donaldson, Mike Stephenson, Jonathan King and Jeremy King.

He enjoyed his bowling, fishing, going to church and watching the deer sitting on his back porch.

Joyce Aline Sikes


Mrs. Joyce Aline Sikes, 66, of Paragould, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at her residence. She was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Arbyrd to the late Arthur and Angie Faye Martin Johns. She married Kenneth Sikes July 31, 1967, in Paragould.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Ray Sikes; two sons, Curtis Lindsey and wife Robin, and Kenny Sikes, all of Paragould; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sondra and Jeff Flynn, of Bentonville, Ark., Sherry and Danny Hoskins of Paragould, and Donna and Dany Partlow of Weiner; a sister, Ersel Edwards of Kennett, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Rhease Hoskins, Claire Hoskins, Erica Coffel and husband, Evan, Lindsey Glidewell and husband, James, Jacob Partlow, Matt Sikes, Cody Sikes, April Lindsey, Tylor Wright, Chris Payton and Nichole Payton; three great-grandchildren, Eli Coffel, Jeffery Glidewell and Lily Glidewell; other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Luke Partlow; a sister, Bernice Wilson; a brother, Onus "Bud" Johns; and a stepfather, Earl Chailland.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Arbyrd with Rev. Alan Cureton officiating. Burial will follow at the Cardwell Cemetery.

Danny Hoskins, Dany Partlow, Jeff Flynn, Evan Coffel, Matt Sikes and Rhease Hoskins will serve as pallbearers. The grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

McDaniel Funeral Home in Arbyrd is in charge of arrangements.

Robert James Moore



Robert James Moore, 79, Paragould, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
Born February 4, 1927 in Detroit, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include seven children in Michigan.


No funeral service is scheduled. Arrangements were under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
