O.W. "Pete" Burns


O.W. "Pete" Burns, 88, of Paragould died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center.
He was born June 26, 1913, near Rector and founded and supervised three
businesses: Burns Heavy Hauling, Dixie Drainage Co., and Delta Improvement
Co.
Mr. Burns was a graduate of Rector High School and the University of
Arkansas College of Agriculture. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner,
and a conservationist with the Dept. of Agriculture, serving as supervisor
of the Greene County Conservationist Office for 32 years.
He was a former Kiwanian, chaired the City Planning Commission during its
early stages, was Goodfellows Chairman, active in the Boy Scouts and was the
1957 Citizen of the Year.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was preceded in death
by his parents, Martin L. and Grace E. Burns; a brother, Fines E. "Bob"
Burns; one sister, Ora L. Edwards; his first wife, Elizabeth D. Burns; and
his second wife, Norma Carter Burns.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Burns of Jonesboro and John Burns of
Cordova, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Heath Funeral Home
Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Rev. Roger Armstrong and Rev. Everett Isom
officiating.
Visitation will be held tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.


 
 



Mildred Pauline Hale


Mildred Pauline Hale, 82, of Paragould died Monday, April 1, 2002, at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born April 20, 1919, in Bay. She was retired from Arkansas Methodist
Medical Center and was of the General Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Hale and 12 brothers and
sisters.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Hale of Paragould; three daughters, Effie
Hale and Glenda Bateman, both of Paragould, and Mary Branscum of Dixie; a
sister, Versie Carter of Paragould; seven grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home
in Jonesboro with Scott Neathery officiating. Burial will be at Pine Log
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Leon Carter, J.W. Stark, Jim Morgan, Charles
Martin, Bud Carter, Brett Vinson and Charles Beaver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe DeHart and Les Noel.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
The family requests memorials be made to the Pine Log Cemetery  Association
or the First Baptist Church of Paragould.

 


 


Elgie Luther Thurman


Elgie Luther Thurman, 78, of Paragould died Monday, April 1, 2002, at
Regional Medical Center of NEA in Jonesboro.
He was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Greene County. He was a retired factory worker
from Wagner Electric, an Army veteran having served during World War II and
a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D.W. and Pearl Powers Thurman; two
brothers, Raymond D. and Bertchel Thurman; four sisters, Eulala Carlisle,
Annie Lou Cobb, Infant Thurman and Dolly Sue Thurman.
Survivors include his wife, Javene Thurman of the home; and three
half-sisters, Shirley Ramsey, Patsy Edwards, and DeEllen Jackson, all of
Paragould.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Heath Funeral Home in
Paragould with Art Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greene County
Memorial Gardens in Paragould.
Nephews will be the pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
The family requests that all memorials be sent to Children's Homes Inc. of
Paragould, Crowley's Ridge College and Crowley's Ridge Academy.




Hermon F. Weatherly


Hermon F. Weatherly, 80, of Pine Bluff died Monday, April 1, 2002.
He was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Marmaduke. He became an ordained minister in
1964 and pastored the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in O'Fallon, Mo. He
was also a member of Edgewood Baptist Church of Pine Bluff. He served in the
Army during World War II from June 1, 1942, to November 29, 1945. Weatherly
served in both the 43rd  Division and the 7th Cavalry Division, 7th
Reconnaissance Troop. He campaigned on Attu Island in the Aleutian Islands,
the Marshal Islands, the Philippine Islands and Korea. As a member of a
reconnaissance troop, his unit was frequently behind enemy lines.
Weatherly's military awards include the World War II Victory Ribbon,
Presidential Unit Citation with Six Bronze Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Albert and Lillie White
Weatherly; and three sisters, Valah Winkler, Bessie Wright and Ester
Weatherly.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Ferguson Weatherly; four sons and three
daughters-in-law, Garry Weatherly of Glen Carbon, Ill., Larry and Shelia
Weatherly of Sheridan, and Dennis and Diann Weatherly, and David and Alice
Weatherly, all of Pine Bluff; a daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Robert
Pickering of Pine Bluff; a sister, Valna Patterson of Paragould; 13
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hale-South Funeral Home with
Michael Hight officiating. Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.



Thalia May Wogmon


Thalia May Wogmon, 71, of Paragould died Monday, April 1, 2002, at St.
Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born March 4, 1931, in Mountain Home. She was a factory worker with
Emerson Electric Co. and member of Rosewood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.D. Sr. and Lois Newman; and a
stepson, Carl Wogmon.
Survivors include her husband, Avery Wogmon of Paragould; a daughter, Vivian
Cook of Blytheville; a brother, W.D. Newman Jr. of Mountain Home; a sister,
Ruby Lamb of Kansas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould
with the Rev. Kenny Crafton officiating. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery
in Paragould.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.


Billy Gene May


Billy Gene May, 68, of Paragould died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Regional
Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas in Jonesboro.
He was born May 18, 1933, in Paragould. He was a retired truck driver and
was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.T. and Mildred May.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn May of the home; four sons, David May of
Cedar Creek, Texas, Mark May of Bastrop, Texas, Keith May of Humboldt,
Tenn., and Buddy Chaney of Black Oak; three daughters, Janet McMillan, Joy
Bryant, and Judy Bolster, all of Paragould; three sisters, Betty Dugger of
San Antonio, Texas, Linda Greer and Donna Clark, both of Paragould; 11
grandchildren; one great-grandson; four stepgrandchildren; four
stepgreat-grandchildren; three nieces; and two nephews.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould
with Dennis Strope officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial
Gardens Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Tommy Hilburn, Fred Shannon, Brandon Hellenthal,
Chason Hellenthal, Russell Cromwell and Michael Kryston.

April Sara Phillips


April Sara Phillips, infant daughter of Ronald Wayne Phillips and Amanda
Lynn Volle, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center
in Paragould.
She was born April 1, 2002, in Paragould.
Survivors other than her parents include her paternal grandmother, Carol
Lucas of Blackwell, Mo.; her paternal grandfather, John Thomas Phillips Sr.
of Pineville, N.C.; her maternal grandparents, Ray and Peggy Volle; her
paternal great-grandmother, Christine Isbell of Paragould; her maternal
great-grandparents, Annabelle and Roy Barnes of Kimberly, Idaho; her
maternal great-great-grandmother, Elva Volle of Boise, Idaho; several aunts,
uncles and cousins; and a great-aunt, Linda Fisher of Paragould.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould
with the Rev. Kenny Crafton officiating. Burial will be at Greene County
Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Paragould.

Mabel "Aunt May" Davis


Mabel "Aunt May" Davis, 92, formerly of Marmaduke, died Monday, April 1,
2002, at Paragould Nursing Home.
She was born March, 19, 1910, in Mississippi County, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Davis; and her parents,
George and Deliah Franklin.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Ravenden Springs.
McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas was in charge of funeral arrangements.



Carolyn Hennessee


Carolyn Hennessee, 63, of Paragould died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at her
residence.
She was born in Trumann. She was a homemaker and member of Clark's Chapel
Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hennessee; a
granddaughter, Alta Rhodes; her parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Fortson of Paragould; two daughters, Jean
Cooper and Donna Junyor, both of Jonesboro; three brothers, Milburn Golden
of Jonesboro, Billy Golden of McMinnville, Tenn., and Dalton Golden of Bay;
two sisters, Rosalie Banks of Brookland and Dovie Goza of Jonesboro; seven
grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro
with Robert Osborn and Billy Moore officiating. Burial will be at Rutherford
Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Brandon Fortson, Shawn Fortson, Chad Reed, Brian
Reed, Chris Reed and Bradley Cooper.

Leonard C. McCullar


Leonard Charles McCullar, 73, of Paragould died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at
St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Nauvoo, Ala. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran
and retired heavy equipment operator. He was also a member of the American
Legion and of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, F.C. and Martha Falls McCullar; two
brothers, Eugene McCullar and Woodrow McCullar; and three sisters, Eula
Chambless, Trannie Davis and Estelle Wheeless.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn McCullar; a son and daughter-in-law, C.
Lynn and Rhonda McCullar of Paragould; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and
Kenneth Misskelly of Paragould; a brother, Howard McCullar of Paragould;
three sisters, Madie Stewart, Louise Higgins, and Viola Johnson, all of
Paragould; three grandchildren, Cheryl Tyler, Karen Cook and Josh McCullar;
and two great-grandchildren, Heath Tyler and Rylee Cook.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould with John Bauer and Terry Gage officiating. Burial will be at
Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Paragould.

Rose Mary Wilson, 43, of Corning died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at her
residence.
She was born April 17, 1958, in Palatka. She was a LPN with Clay Healthcare
in Corning.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Francis Ellen
Morgan Christian.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Wilson of Corning; two daughters,
Char'ta Brown and Savannah Reatherford, both of Corning; two brothers, Gary
Christian and Jerry Harris, both of Corning; two sisters, Sharon Campbell of
Success and Treena Riley of Shelbyville, Ky.; a stepson, Scott Wilson of
Carey, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Christina St. Amour of Sarasota, Fla.; and
several grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning
with the Rev. Larry Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Corning.

Lorene Johnson


Lorene Johnson, 88, of Paragould died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born June 16, 1913, in Greene County. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Vestal; two sons,
Bobby Johnson and John Henry Johnson; a daughter, Mable Louise Ross; and a
sister, Dorthy Vestal.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Burl Johnson of Paragould; two sons,
Darrell Johnson of Batesville and Junior Johnson of Florissant, Mo.; two
daughters, Osie Wilson and Shirley Wright, both of Paragould; 17
grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould with
the Rev. Junior Vester officiating. Burial will be at New Liberty Cemetery
in Marmaduke.

George William Rowland


George William Rowland, 73, of Paragould died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at
his residence.
He was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Paragould. He was a retired college professor,
having worked at Three Rivers Community College, the University of Tennessee
at Martin and Missouri Valley Presbyterian College, and was a member of
Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran, having
served during the Korean Conflict. He received his bachelor's degree from
Arkansas State College, his master's degree from the University of Arkansas
at Fayetteville and his doctorate from the University of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Clellie Rowland; and a
brother-in-law, Merrell Holder.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Holder of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Center Hill Cemetery
with Jim Chaplain officiating.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, before the service, at
Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould.
The procession will leave the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

 

 


Lona Pearl Hurley


Lona Pearl Hurley, 91, of Paragould died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born March 14, 1911, in Paragould. She was a retired waitress and of
the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lina Seay; her first
husband, Buddy Peeler; her second husband, John Hurley; an infant son, James
Hurley; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford Seay, Gabe and Edith
Seay and Mack and Nora Seay.
Survivors include her nephews and nieces, Will and Jean Seay of St. Charles,
Mo., and Loretta and John LaFontaine of Cherokee Village; many cousins; and
dear friends, Bill and Annie Ward Headley of Paragould.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Walcott
with Adrian Denham officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould.
The procession will leave the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

 Rebecca Brooks McNeil


Rebecca Brooks McNeil, 4, of Paragould died Friday, April 4, 2002, at
Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
She was born March 13, 1998, in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of East Side
Baptist Church in Paragould.
Survivors include her parents, Joey and Dawn McNeil of the home; her
biological mother, Betty Jean Brooks of Gosnell; a brother, Cameron McNeil;
a half-brother, Robert Woodward of Manila; her paternal grandparents,
Freddie and Tootsie Wetzler of Pine Bluff; and her maternal grandparents,
Donna VanValkenburg of Paragould and Dewey and Peggy VanValkenburg of
Cherokee Village.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould with Don Edmiston officiating and music by Karen Green.
Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

Harvey Weaver


Harvey Weaver, 54, of Success died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
He was born March 18, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a utility operator
with Monroe Auto Equipment in Paragould and a U.S. Army veteran having
served in Korea and during the Vietnam Era.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James and Rosemary Powell
Weaver; and two infant brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Weaver of Success; two sons, Jessie Weaver
and Heath Samons, both of Success; a daughter, Rebecca Johnson of Paragould;
a brother, Dean Weaver of Statesville, N.C.; two sisters, Martha Scharf of
St. Louis, Mo., and Connie McIntire of Irondale, Mo.; and six grandchildren,
Jessica, MaHalie, Cody, Darra, Jacob and Angel.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning with
the Rev. Billy Snow officiating. Burial will be at Williams Cemetery in
Corning.
Military honors will be by VFW Promberger Traw Post 4567 of Pocahontas.

Dorothy Mae Bateman


Dorothy Mae Bateman, 71, of Paragould died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Marmaduke. She was a LPN with Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center. She was also a member of Unity Baptist Church in
Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rollie Fox and Louise Wright Fox
Willich; two sons, Nickie Davis and Phillip Davis; and a brother, Robert
Fox.
Survivors include her husband, Waukeen Bateman of Paragould; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Kay and Bud Fletcher of Paragould and Phyllis and Dale
Copher of North Port, Fla.; five granddaughters, Christy Fletcher of
Paragould, Johnna Disanto and Phyllis Dale Copher, both of Blackwood, N.J.,
Sabrenia Holifield of Piggott and Kelly Arnhart of Ash Flat; two grandsons,
Justin Fletcher of Paragould and Phillip Davis of McDougal; and five
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould
with the Revs. Terry Songer and Max Gregory officiating. Burial will be at
Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

George McDaniel


George McDaniel, 74, of West Memphis died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at VA
Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Schugtown. He was an Army veteran having
served during World War II and a former employee of Southland Greyhound
Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorene McDaniel; and by
one sister, Edna Dickerson.
Survivors include three brothers, John H. McDaniel and Major McDaniel, both
of Paragould, and Larry T. McDaniel of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and one sister,
Wilma Nelms of Fayetteville.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Linwood Cemetery in
Paragould with Art Smith officiating.
Pallbearers will be Danny McDaniel, Sammy McDaniel, Joe Parsons, Leo Schug,
Kent McDaniel and Roy McDaniel.
Visitation will be from 9-10:45 Wednesday morning at Mitchell Funeral Home
in Paragould.
Procession will leave the funeral home at 10:50 a.m.



Pat Blunk Owens


Pat Blunk Owens, 65, of Paragould died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Corning. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Owens; and her parents,
James R. and Evelyn Nesbitt Blunk.
Survivors include one daughter, Dedra Owens of Cordova, Tenn.; one son,
Byron Owens of Paragould; and two brothers, Jimmie D. Blunk and Larry M.
Blunk, both of Trumann.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ermert Funeral Home in
Corning. Burial will be in Corning Cemetery.

Lois Jean Walton


Lois Jean Walton, 62, of Paragould died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born June 21, 1939, in Greene County. She was an employee at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould and a member of West Light
Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Murble Walton; one son and daughter-in-law,
Marlan L. and Sherry Walton of Paragould; one daughter and son-in-law,
Rhonda and Max Steyer of Paragould; her mother, Mable Garner of Stanford;
one brother, Dean Garner of Stanford; and a grandchild, Chantilly Lacey
Steyer of Paragould.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould
with Myrl Fredrick and Herbert Starr officiating. Burial will be in Morrow
Cemetery.

Delila Mae Harris


Delila Mae Harris, 97, of Paragould died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Paragould
Nursing Center.
She was born April 4, 1905, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and member
of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church in Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Sally Boozer; her husband,
Joseph D. Harris; one sister, Vera Halley; and two grandsons, Joseph David
Harris and Joseph C. Harris Jr.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Joseph C. Harris of La Jolla, Calif.; and one
granddaughter, Linda Harris of La Jolla.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral of Paragould with
J.B. Harris officiating. Burial will be in Warren's Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

 


Louise Dora Higgins


Louise Dora Higgins, 79, of Paragould died Monday, April 8, 2002, at her
residence.
She was born Nov. 26, 1922, in Nauvoo, Ala. She was retired from Security
Bank and was a member of Second and Walnut Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, F.C. and Martha McCullar; her
husband, Olon Higgins; three brothers, Leonard McCullar, Eugene McCullar and
Woodrow McCullar; three sisters, Eula Chambliss, Trannie Davis and Estelle
Wheelis.
Survivors include one son, Chris Higgins of Bryant; one daughter, Jan
Higgins of Paragould; one brother, Howard McCullar of Paragould; two
sisters, Madie Stewart and Viola Johnson, both of Paragould; four
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Paragould with James Brown officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens
Cemetery in Paragould.

Jessie W. "Will" Sircloumb, 68, of Machesney Park, Ill., died Thursday,
April 4, 2002, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill.
He was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Breckenridge Township.   He retired from Quaker
Oats after 30 years of service. He was a veteran having served in the U.S.
Army during the Korean War and was a member of North Park Church of Christ.
He devoted many years of service to the Rockford Christian Camp. He was a
member of the 50 year Retiree Club with Quaker Oats Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Vada Gardner Sircloumb
of Rockford, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Luttrell Sircloumb of the home; one son
and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Debbie of Orlando, Fla.; a granddaughter,
Delaina Sircloumb; several nieces and nephews; his special nurse, Cammie;
and his special secretary, Susan.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning with
Bill Cline officiating. Burial will be in Bond Cemetery in Knobel.

 

 


Ruby Jean Frazier


Ruby Jean Frazier, 56, of Marmaduke died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
She was born in Arkansas and lived in Pearl the majority of her life. She
was a member of Flowood Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Frazier; a son and daughter-in-law,
Tony and Angela Exum of Pearl; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Frank
Tackett of Brandon; one son, Josh Frazier of Clinton; her father, Stacie
King of Marmaduke; one brother, Sam King of Marmaduke; and six
grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.
Burial will be in Marmaduke.

Betty Sue Walker


Betty Sue Walker, 71, of Marmaduke died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at her
residence.
She was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Greene County. She was a homemaker and of the
Church of Christ faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ella McMurturey; and by
her husband, Wade Walker.
Survivors include seven sons, Larry Walker, Terry Walker, Billy Walker, and
Jimmy Walker, all of Marmaduke, Danny Walker and Clinton Walker, both of
Paragould, and Allen Walker of Rector; five daughters, Patsy Phillips,
Joella Carter and Barbara Bryant, all of Marmaduke, and Paula Rogers and
Nancy Storms, both of Paragould; one brother, Clyde Stricklin of Grand
Blanc, Mich.; one sister, Ruby Chamberlain of Rector; 15 grandchildren; and
12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Marmaduke
with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Harvey's Chapel Cemetery in
Marmaduke.
Mrs. Walker's sons will serve as pallbearers.

Mary Lee Cox


Mary Lee Cox, 91, of Rector died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born Sept. 11, 1910, in Kennett, Mo. She was a school teacher and
nurse. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rector.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William S. and Willie Ann Meharg
Read; and two brothers, Van Rip Read and Ethridge Buck Read.
Survivors include her husband, Doyle W. Cox of the home; and a brother, Bill
Read of Little Rock.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rector First Baptist Church with
Ardell Polk and James Henry Dortch officiating. Burial will be at Woodland
Heights Cemetery in Rector.

Gale Kluge, 59, of Marmaduke died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at St. Bernards
Medical Center in Jonesboro.
She was born Jan. 16, 1943, in Leachville. She was a school teacher at
Southland Schools in Cardwell, Mo. She was a graduate of Greene County Tech
High School and Arkansas State University with a degree in elementary
education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marmaduke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Beatrice Gibson.
Survivors include her husband, Robert B. Kluge of Marmaduke; a son, Jim
Edward Kluge of Batesville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Loria Grace of
St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ashley Marie and Jeremy Lewis of Mammoth Spring; a
brother, J.C. Gibson of Paragould; two sisters, Rita Barr of Paragould and
Barbara Ridgeway of Cabot; and seven grandchildren.

Paragould with Kim Bridges officiating. Burial will be at Greene County
Memorial Gardens in Paragould.

William Maurice Edrington, 88, of Paragould died Wednesday, April 10, 2002,
at Miramar Nursing Home in Pass Christian, Miss.
He was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Greene County. He was a retired farmer and
heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Center Hill Church of
Christ in Paragould and later the Long Beach Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daphine Edrington; his parents, W.C.
and Ella Ellington; and a brother, Don Edrington.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Max and Diane Edrington of
Long Beach, Miss.; three grandsons, Kirk, Clint and Kyle Edrington, all of
Long Beach; and a sister, Mildred Westbrook of Paragould.

James "Jim" A. Cupp


James "Jim" A. Cupp, 87, of Paragould died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at his
residence.
He was born Aug. 13, 1914, in Brighton. He was a retired farmer and
electrician. He was a member of Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church and
was a Master Gardener of Grandpa's Fresh Vegetables at the Farmer's Market
located between the tracks in Downtown Paragould. Cupp was also a lifetime
member of the Northeast Arkansas Saddle Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.J. "Bud" and Lizzie Cupp; an
infant brother; a sister, Lucy Prince; and two great-grandchildren, Koty
Mangrum and Erin English.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Cupp of the home; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Larry and Kathy Cupp of Paragould and David and Meryl Cupp

Dalton McDonald, 74, of Shannon Hills died Thursday, April 11, 2002.
He retired in 1990 as the co-owner of Global Pest Control Company. He was a
World War II Army Corp. Veteran, member of Geyer Springs First Baptist
Church and a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Glover; and a brother, Bud
McDonald.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestine McDonald Wilson of Flint, Mich.; a
stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Randy and Susan Biggs of Benton; a
stepdaughter, Peggy Biggs of Benton; 11 grandchildren; 10

She was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Saxton, Ky. She was a sewing machine operator
at the Fisher Body General Motors Plant in Livonia, Mich. She was a member
of the Order of Eastern Star's Flat Rock, Mich., Council.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Monroe Davis; and her
parents, Ernest and Della Bolton Todd.
Survivors include a son, John Davis of Paragould; two daughters, Vicki
Caffinni of Dearborn Hts., Mich., and Lynda Denhard of Livonia, Mich.; a

Methodist Medical Center in Paragould for 20 years, a member and deacon of
the Arbyrd Baptist Church, and a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.

Virgil E. Terry, 71, of Burton died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Genesys
Health Park.
He was born April 6, 1930, in Marmaduke. He served in the U.S. Army during
the Korean Conflict. He retired from General Motors Truck and Bus and was a
member of the UAW Local 598.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Hattie Terry; two
brothers, George and David Terry; one sister, Josephine; and a
granddaughter, Sara.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sue Terry of
Davison; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gordon Kodat, and
Christy and Larry Brown, all  of Burton and Connie and Jim Finley of Mt.
Morris; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and
sisters-in-law, Melvin and Louise Terry of Burton and Jerry and Linda Terry
of Paragould; two sisters, Rose DeWitt and Eula Dean Halcomb, both of
Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Investment Broker and a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Russel Tabor; one infant brother,
Charles Lynn Tabor; her maternal grandparents, John and Minnie Matthews; and
her paternal grandparents, Booker and Mamie Tabor.

He was born July 8, 1935, in Knobel. He was a retired field representative
of General Electric Credit Corporation and member of Cornerstone United
Methodist Church in Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Oneida "Shorty" Cox; and his
parents, Fred J. and Dade Livingston Cox.

Laura Elizabeth Berry


Laura Elizabeth Berry, 95, of Paragould died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at her
residence.
She was born Feb. 20, 1907, in Jackson, Tenn. She was a member of West View
Baptist Church in Paragould and a charter member of Southside Baptist Church
in Kennett, Mo. She was also a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Joanna Goff
Pierce; her husband, Carl Elliott Berry; and a daughter, Christine Wilson.
Survivors include four sons, Jimmy Berry of Paragould, William Bell of
Seymour, Ind., Ivan Berry of Van Buren, Mo., and George Bell of Farmington,
Mo.; a sister, Vada Stout of Sikeston, Mo.; and a host of grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett
with the Rev. Leon Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Sumach Cemetery in
Holcomb, Mo.
Visitation will be at 6 this evening at the funeral home.

 


Dona Margaret Curtis


Dona Margaret Curtis, 76, of Paragould died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at
her residence.
She was born May 30, 1925, in Greenway. She was a homemaker and member of
Unity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Ray Curtis; and three
sisters, Evelyn Newsom, Frances Reese and Zelma Hogg.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Phil and Susan
Curtis, Frank and Nina Curtis, and Ray Curtis, all of Paragould; four
daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Mike Hodges, and Sheila and Randy
Alvord, all of Paragould, Lois and Bob Elliot of Walcott and Chris and Lance
Winn of Marmaduke; a sister, Laura Miller of St. Louis, Mo.; 18
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould with Terry Songer officiating. Burial will be at Greene County
Memorial Gardens in Paragould.
Pallbearers will be Bob Elliott, Tony Elliott, Phillip Curtis, Jeff Hodges,
James Curtis, Kevin Curtis, Brian Curtis, Jeremy Hodges and Al Curtis.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.

 

 
 


Ettar Pearl Carroll Smith


Ettar Pearl Carroll Smith, 84, of Westfield, Ind., formerly of Marmaduke,
died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Stonewall. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Smith; two infant sons,
Wesley and Odell; and two grandsons, Tracy Thompson and Cody Smelser.
Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Leon and Lois Smith,
and DeWayne and Joyce Smith, all of Paragould, William E. Smith of Marmaduke
and Kevin Smith of Westfield; five daughters and sons-in-law, Melonie and
Rick Smelser of Paragould, Joy and William Ressler of Carmel, Ind., Judy and
Rod Dennis of Jonesboro, Ind., Shela and James Weesner of Westfield and
Wanda and Windle Thompson of Somerset, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould with Dr. Rod and Judy Dennis officiating. Burial will be at New
Liberty Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



 


Chuck Butler


Chuck Butler, 46, of Paragould died Saturday, April 27, 2002, in Walnut
Ridge.
He was born Sept. 3, 1955, in Corning. He was a member of the Pentecostal
Church of Jesus Christ in Hoxie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Veda Mae Anderson; his grandmother,
Thelma Beatrice Smith; his grandfather, Virgel Hinklin; and a brother,
Timothy Butler.
Survivors include a sister, Terry Crouch of Walnut Ridge; his step-parents,
Weldon and Anna Anderson of Paragould; a nephew, Blake Crouch of Walnut
Ridge; a niece and her husband, Lacey and Steve Smith of Paragould; a niece,
Lindsey Crouch of Paragould; a brother-in-law, Butch Crouch of Paragould;
his grandmother, Jean Hinklin of Corning; and several aunts, uncles and
cousins.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning.
Burial will be at Richwood Cemetery in Corning.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 



Opal Bullinger


Opal Bullinger, 88, of Rector died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Lafe. She
was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Vera Evans Merideth; her
husband, Albert Monroe Bullinger; two sons, James "JR" Bullinger and Wayne
Bullinger; and a grandson, Gary Wayne Bullinger.
Survivors include two sons, Lindle M. Bullinger and Leland Gene Bullinger,
both of Rector; two daughters, Glenda Faye Shipley of Pleasant Plains, Mo.,
and Nancy Nelson of Holcomb, Mo.; three sisters, Mildred Priest of Albany,
Texas, Evelyn Burdin of Fisk, Mo., and Joan Johnson of Jonesboro; 24
grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.
Burial will be at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.

 


 
 

Wade Norris


Wade Norris, 92, a resident of Paragould died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
He was born Sept. 16, 1909, in Pollard. He was retired from Norge
Manufacturing and a former representitive for Newton Manufacturing. He was a
member of the Civitan Club of Paragould.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Audey Norris, and one infant daughter.
Survivors include three half-sisters, Olive Pike of Pollard, Annie Seward of
St. Louis, Mo., and Faye Richardson of Southgate, Mich.
The funeral services were held yesterday at Mitchell Funeral Home in
Paragould with Scott Neatherly officiating. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Arnold, Dale Walters, Kenny Highfill, Jimmy Gramling
and Gary McCarroll.

 

 Dewayne Louis Coe


Dewayne Louis Coe, 63, of Marmaduke died Sunday, April 28, 2002, in
Paragould.
He was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Lafe and was of the Baptist faith. He was a
U.S. Army veteran and retired from the military. He was an employee of
Wilbert Vault Company in Paragould.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Coe of the home; two sons, Brick Holt of
Knobel and Robert Coe of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Melinda Ellington
of Mountain Home, Brenda Plumbly of Linden, Mich., and Sandy Coe of St.
Louis; and nine grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hartsoe
Cemetery near Marmaduke with Bro. Kim Bridges officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 this evening at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel
in Rector.

 


Dawn Marie Morris


Dawn Marie Morris, 41, of Rector died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Arkansas
Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.
She was born Oct. 14, 1960, in Pawhuska, Okla. She was a member of Blooming
Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a
bookkeeper-receptionist/supervisor at the Human Development Center.
Survivors include her husband, Don Morris; three sons, Bud, Luke and Seth,
all of the home; one daughter, Toby of the home; her parents, Louis and Mary
Coleman Cook of Fairfax, Okla.; one brother, Charlie Cook of Fairfax, Okla.;
one sister, Zoe Halcrombe of Fairfax, Okla.; and her grandparents, James and
Viola Coleman of Pawhuska, Okla. She was also the aunt of Christy, Cody,
Caleb, Moss, Cassie, Callie, Robbie, Dusty, Darren, Brad, Kasey, Joey,
Grace, Helen, Danny, Matt, Laura, Michael and Tony; and the great-aunt of
Joby and Hunter.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1 at Irby Funeral Home
Chapel in Rector with Bros. Randy Scaggs and Charles Ryan officiating.
Burial will be in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
Pallbearers will be Nick Watson, Jerry Halcrombe, Steve Horton, Brad Beck,
Darren Beck, Robbie Barker, Bo Mills, Jerry Horton and Steve Lowe.



Clara Pigue Swafford


Clara Pigue Swafford, 86, of Jonesboro died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at
Craighead County Nursing Center in Jonesboro.
She was born May 3, 1915, in Marmaduke. She was a retired nurse from
Arkansas Methodist Hospital and Greene Acres Nursing Home in Paragould. She
was a member of Rosewood Baptist Church in Paragould.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella Hots; her first
husband, Herbert Pigue; her second husband, Owen Swafford; one son, Kelly
Pigue; one daughter, Glenda Graham; one brother, Ellis Hots; and one sister,
Edna Wallis.
Survivors include three sons, Harold Pigue of Mabelvale, Ewell Von Pigue of
Benton, and Ronald Pigue Sr. of Paragould; four sisters, Lily Barker of
Corpus Christi, Texas, Eula Arnhart of Stanford, Freda Metheny of Monette,
and Mary Aletta Hantke of Paragould; one brother, Kenneth Hots of Paragould;
15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at 1:30 this afternoon at Mitchell Funeral
Home Chapel in Paragould with Marion Gramling officiating. Burial will be in
Greene County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Pigue, Ron Pigue Jr., Marshall Graham, Kenny
Pigue, Vince Pigue and David Pigue.
The family requests that all memorials be sent to Children's Homes Inc. in
Paragould.

 


Wilma Louise "Pickens" Buchanan


Wilma Louise "Pickens" Buchanan, 72, of Modesto, Calif., and formerly of
Paragould, died Saturday, April 27, 2002.
She was born May 15, 1929, in Paragould.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Mitchell Funeral Home of Paragould.
