JUNIOR GIRLS' BASKETBALL

     APPROXIMATELY THIRTY GIRLS WENT OUT FOR JUNIOR BASKETBALL. PRACTICE WAS STARTED ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE JUNIOR TOURNAMENT, DEFEATING STANFORD BY TWO POINTS AFTER PLAYING TWO OVERTIME PERIODS. THE TEAM ALSO SHOWED EXCELLENT WORK IN THE GAME AGAINST LAFE. THE LAFE SCHOOL HAS HAD A JUNIOR TEAM FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND WAS ONE OF THE STRONG TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT; YET THEY DEFEATED THE LAKESIDE TEAM BY ONLY A FEW POINTS.

     THE FOLLOWING GIRLS DID THE BEST WORK FOR THE JUNIOR TEAM:

MAYO PIGUE, CLAUDIE FAYE MORGAN, GLADYS HARRIS, MONTYE HOOKS, PANSY CALHOUN, MAJORIE THOMAS, GERALDINE NOEL, JEWEL REMAGE, MARTHA LEE BRUMMET, LAVAY AUSTIN, AND MARGARETTE ANDERSON.

JUNIOR BOY'S BASKETBALL

     LATE IN THE REGULAR SEASON A JUNIOR BASKETBALL TEAM WAS ORGANIZED WITH THE FOLLOWING BOYS AS MEMBERS:   

KENNETH ELLINGTON, HASKEL HERREN, RICHARD BIGGS, PAUL MACK MILES, LEON CASE, MELDROM ROWLAND, BILLIE JOE HOLCOMB, BUD LONG, CLIFFORD HAMILTON AND JR. THURMOND.

     THE BOYS SHOWED PLENTY OF FIGHT AND SPORTSMANSHIP IN ALL THEIR GAMES AND CAME VERY CLOSE TO WINNING SEVERAL OF THEM; THEY DESERVE A LOT OF CREDIT FOR THEIR EFFORTS.

 

JUNIOR TRACK

       LAKESIDE'S FIRST COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP WAS WON BY THE JUNIOR TRACK TEAM ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 11, 1941. COMPETING IN THE COUNTY TRACK MEET, THE JUNIORS SCORED 38 POINTS FOR FIRST PLACE. OAK GROVE WAS SECOND WITH 36 AND LAFE WAS THIRD WITH 5 POINTS. BILLIE JOE HOLCOMB WAS THE OUTSTANDING MAN AND RACKED UP A TOTAL OF 18 POINTS FOR LAKESIDE TO BECOME HIGH POINT MAN. RILEY OF OAK GROVE WAS SECOND WITH 16 POINTS.

     CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING BOYS WHO COMPETED FOR LAKESIDE:

BILLIE JOE HOLCOMB, KENNETH ELLINGTON, JOE WILLIAMSON, BUD LONG, HASKEL HERREN AND ORVILLE HOPKINS.
