Frances A. Fitzhugh Grave

Hot Spring Co., Ark. Deed Record Bk. 4 page 513, July 20, 1906 reserves on acre in SE 1/4 NE 1/4 S25 T3S R17W and mentions the grave of Frances A. Fitzhugh, mother of B.C. Fitzhugh. This is on the Old Military Road.

FITZHUGH, FRANCES A. b. About 1825 TN d. ________ Marked with a large field stone.

Mrs. J.M. Clem III (Frances Edwards Clem) of Malvern is a granddaughter of B.C. & Sallie Wallace Fitzhugh. Frances only knows that her grandmother (Sallie W. Fitzhugh) had some graves moved to Malvern (actually to the Francois Cemetery at Gifford) when they moved to Malvern. These graves are apparently some of their infants which are buried in the Fitzhugh/Edwards plot and marked with concrete blocks & metal tags.

1850 Census, Hot Springs Twp., Hot Spring Co., Ark. 10.10. Merrit House 26 Farmer $1000 TN, Frances E. 24 TN, Bythanie M. 6 TN, Amanda 2 AR, & William 8/12 AR (9/27/1850).

Feb.12, 1855 Bk. E pg.131 Hot Spring Co. Deeds: Frances E. House decree against Geo. w. & Merrit House. Smith Co., Carthage, Tennessee Court record sued for slaves left to Frances & her 3 sisters (not named).

Feb.14, 1855. Hot Spring Co. Chancery Court Bk. "A" pg 288: Merrit House vs. Frances E. House, defendant: NW !/4 S32 T3S R16W 160 Acres.
Bk. "A" pgs. 294-297; 296-297-298-299 9/1/1855 - Merritt House willfully deserted the said Frances E. House. Divorced.
Hot Spring Co. Marriage Records: 12/22/1857 Frances E. House married Benjamin Fitzhugh. Deed Bk. F, pgs. 77 & 91, 1957 marriage contract & Schedule of Slaves, agreed to live separately.

1860 Census, Fenter Twp., Hot Spring Co.- 277 Mrs. Francis Fitzhugh 35 housekeeper $300-$4000 Tenn., Benjamin C. 2 Ark, Virginia 4 mo. Ark., & Darcie DeHaws 6 fem. Ark..
Big Creek Twp. -441 Benjamin Fitzhugh 56 Carpenter, $2000-$500 Tenn. & his dau. Ellen Cass Fitzhugh 12 Miss..
Benjamin & Frances divorced and both remarried: Frances Fitzhugh m.3rd. 11/4/1865 to Dickerson
Futrell. Deed Bk. F, pgs 410-413 12/12/1866- D. Futrell & Frances agreed to live separate & apart. They had one daughter Perlina Futrell b. 1868. Benjamin Fitzhugh m.3rd. 2/12/1862 Elizabeth B.L. Chambers Brashears, widow of John Brashears.
