Old Communities of Hot Spring County
The following names of villages, towns and communities in Hot Spring County were taken from Polk's Arkansas State Gazetteer and Business Directory. Volume II covers the period from 1888 - 1889 and Volume III covers the period from 1892 - 1893. Some of these places have long since vanished while some still exist and have grown and prospered with time.

1888 - 1889
 
BECKER - A lumbering settlement on the St. L., I. M. & S. div. of the M.P. Ry., in Hot Spring County, 35 miles southwest of LIttle Rock and 8 miles northeast of Malvern Junction, the county seat. It contains a steam saw and planing mill and ships lumber. Population: 100. Mail, daily. J. H. Becker, postmaster.

BISMARK - A settlement in the township of the same name. It is 78 miles southwest of Little Rock, 25 miles southwest of Malvern Junction and 18 miles northwest of Arkadelphia. It contains a steam grist mill and cotton gin and ships cotton. Population: 75. Mail, tri - weekly. Wm. C. Keeton, postmaster.

DE ROCHE - A post office in township of the same name. It is 63 miles southwest of Little Rock and 20 miles southwest of Malvern Junction. It contains a steam grist mill and cotton gin. Population: 60. Mail, tri - weekly. R. N. Riddles, postmaster. More info click here

EARLE - A discontinued post office in Hot Spring County. It is 55 miles southwest of Little Rock and 12 miles south on Malvern.

GIFFORD - A post office on the St. L., I. M. & S. div of the M. P. Ry, in Fenter Township. It is 39 miles southwest of Little Rock and 4 miles northeast of Malvern. Settled in 1874. It contains steam saw mills and ships lumber. Mail, daily.

LONO - A settlement in Clear Creek Township. It is 57 miles southwest of Little Rock and 14 miles southeast of Malvern. It contains steam saw and grist mills and ships cotton. Stages daily to Malvern and Fordyce. Population: 125. Mail, daily. W. P. Bowers, postmaster.

MALVERN - County seat. Located 43 miles southwest of Little Rock, in Fenter Township. Settled in 1873. Incorporated since 1877. Contains many businesses: school, churches, fire department, grist mills, cotton gins, newspapers. good building stone and an excellent potters' clay are found in the vicinity. Population: 1,500. OMA - A post office in Valley Township. It is located 73 miles southwest of Little Rock, 30 miles west of Malvern and 18 miles southwest of Hot Springs. Settled in 1878. It contains a steam grist mill and a cotton gin. Population: 60. Mail, daily. J. W. Henderson, postmaster.

POINT CEDAR - A post office in Hot Spring County. It is 83 miles southwest of Little Rock, 23 miles southwest of Hot Springs and 40 miles southwest of Malvern. It contains two grist mills and cotton gins. Mail, tri - weekly.

VALLEY - A post office in Hot Spring County. It is 70 miles southwest of Little Rock and 29 miles west of Malvern. Mail, tri - weekly.

WITHERSPOON - A recently established post office.
